2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Sixers: Time to Win the NBA Cup!

The Knicks head to Philadelphia to take on the 2-7 Sixers, who are missing Tyrese Maxey, but will see the debut of Joel Embiid tonight, so the Sixers are starting to get a little bit healthy. Still, the Knicks should still be able to kick their ass, and that’s even more important now as this is the start of the NBA Cup tournament (I’m not calling it its official name. Fuck product placement. Also, check out my pop culture website, Pop Culture References).

Let’s go, Knicks! Have KAT kick Embiid’s ass!

“Anyone who wants to get rich just has to bet Jarred McCain will set a new career high tonight. Easy peasy.”

You’d lose, because that’s not his name. 🙂

If KAT doesn’t take 10 threes today I will write about it at the end of the game thread. You have been warned.

Me neither. I feel if I look into this court too long I might get sucked into it like a black hole.

Great block from OG

Embiid getting a shot clock violation because he didn’t want to make KAT’s rim protection numbers better. Cowardly.

Can’t watch yet but I’m assuming we’ll be down about 10 by the end of Q1, taking difficult twos while giving up an open 3 or Embiid FTA’s every single possession.

we seem like a .500 club right now, philly has been playing a bit worse, but has their main guy back…

i feel very confident stating that we may very well lose the game this evening…

the OG help defense is crazy. he looks like an octopus in the blindingly blue ocean tonight.

the injuries are brutal.

I read an article a few years back related to injuries in horse racing and the modern horse’s inability to handle tough racing schedules like decades ago. The guy was trying to make the case that environmental factors were having an impact on bones, ligaments and other components of horse health that he thought would impact human sports injuries also. I can’t remember all the details and I’ll never find the article again, but maybe he wasn’t as big of a crack pot as I thought at the time.

Sims blew a switch down low on that big fat guy, and lost the interior pass, but he’s been otherwise playing decent defense, has a block and a hustle dunk so far. I’d call it quite passable so far.

Sims should Retire now, and then we retire (checks) #20

sorry Bibby / Jeffries / Houston / Rolando

I can understand complaining about Bridges, who seems to be perking up tonight, but OG is fucking amazing

And yeah, totally guilty on Drummond

Matt Ryan getting first quarter minutes rings of Thibs getting a stern talking to about running 6 man rotations before Thanksgiving

Off the inbound. Brunson to Martin for the quick fast break bucket. Just like Thibs drew it up.

Thibs will say see I put in 3 bench players and the lead went from 9 to 2 in a blink of an eye.

whats the opposite of most improved player of the year, and is Brunson in the running?

A bunch of pretty bush league turnovers didn’t help (lookin’ at you, Cap…).

I mean, is it regular enough now to say “Deuce gonna Deuce.” Haha

Tuskeegee Airman’s grandson looking good.

Deuce is doing all kinds of things I didn’t think he could do. Just in this half.

Are we sure this isn’t the Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons?

LOL. Or perhaps Irene Ryan from the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES?

I’d like too see a little more rowdyness from Bridges, his “It’s just basketball, there’s no need to sweat it out” body language is starting to irk me a little bit…

And this turnover doesn’t help

Why can you remove points after the fact when players step out of bounds but not add points when refs miss clear goaltending calls?

I am not sure what Matt Ryan looks like but it’s not an NBA basketball player

i’m getting “random broker extra hyping dicaprio wolf of wall street speech”

Josh on the break can be a wonderful thing

We went about 15 years as a franchise without scoring a bucket like that

“We went about 15 years as a franchise without scoring a bucket like that”

Remember watching Mudiay do just that but miss and fall down out of bounds and it would go the other way 5 on 4? Over and over?

I’ll take Josh’s version.

Embiid almost throws KAT on the floor, but still gets a call later. I hate his game so much.

Embiid just runs down the court and bangs into Sims knowing he’ll get 2 FTs. I swear I’m going to quit watching this league if Silver doesn’t fix the foul hunting BS.

Jalen had a season for the ages last year, a regression could be expected, but this is a little too much…

I like KAT’s attitude tonight until the refs started robbing him…

Give Jonah Hill ten years and he will be perfect for the Thibs biopic we never saw coming

Please don’t be hurt Jalen

Oh good Knicks reverting to their allow wide open 3s on every defensive possession strategy.

jalen needs some kind of reset…maybe some time watching the team play will help him kickstart this season once he returns to the court…

KAT looks like a TRex with shoulder dysplasia

I think he walked. Plant foot slid.

Jalen! Please be ok

Bridges at least using his long ass arms to get into the passing lanes makes a big difference.

OG and Hart have kept us above water this season.

Josh Hart has to have an 80% two point percentage at this point

KAT really has some nice passes. That and hitting FTs a welcome addition at the 5.

George is something

Didn’t see a foul on that McCain dunk. Homer glasses are on

And yeah, terrible turnovers tonight

Was this guy great at Duke?

Just lazy, stupid passes. My molars are grinding.

Still, a good game. But we should be up by 20.

matt ryan as the last help defender is about the same as matt ryan as the last tackler on a pick six

take a second to appreciate the balls to brake check and shoot with a bad ankle knowing joel embiid is going to slam into you from behind

McCain is 4-11 but listening to the play by play guy you’d think he hadn’t missed

Glad someone finally said it.

I’d like to Cam Payne for him to stick on the bench the rest of the game.

See what I did there?

I don’t know if we’ll still be the 2nd or 3rd best offense in the league after this game, but I’m pretty sure we’re leading it in brain farts…

“take a second to appreciate the balls to brake check and shoot with a bad ankle knowing joel embiid is going to slam into you from behind”

You’ll excuse me if I’m not in a celebrating balls kind of mood…

one of these commentators is either related to mccain or has designs on his mother

When does the Jalen Brunson watch officially start? He’s not even close to the same player from last year in the first 10 games.

OG’s offensive game is so much better this year. He’s been their best overall player by not a small margin.

Love OG

A lot of his dunks are funny. He ends up looking like a piece of gum hanging from the rim. Still love it.

That last play was brilliant manipulation of the defense by Jalen. Once he got the Embiid switch he didn’t go at him but used KAT to seal off the lane for a dunk. Nice.

We’ve had some embarrassing turnovers tonight, but Paul George just literally did the butt fumble

THAT was a Mudiay play by Brunson. No harm though.

Hart is a thing of beauty.

13 points with 4 minutes to go is far from over in todays NBA. And yet the fans have given up.

KAT with a great play for Josh’s three…

DET just beat Miami in OT on a technical foul FT whistled with 1 second to go 😳

OG truly is a magician. He had George locked up in this last possession.

Maybe sit him with a couple of minutes to go, Thibs.

I knew Towns would rebound better playing C instead of PF next to Gobert, but he’s actually a very good rebounder (and underrated passer).

I love that it sounds like the only people left in the building are Knicks fans!

From the ESPN feed it looks like Spo called a timeout he didn’t have? That would be crazy if so

OG is better on offense this year than last year. If he takes one more little step with his handle and finish at the rim, he’s going to be ridiculously good given his impact on defense.

Thankfully we can have a thread tomorrow without too much doom and gloom. We won. The defense was very good. Bridges looked better. We finished the 4th quarter!

Progress!

Nice win, with just a little too many turnovers.
OG, Josh and Deuce led the way, solid 21-13-6 for KAT (with better defense than usual), Bridges showed flashes, Brunson with 6 TO and a bad shooting night.

MVP: Pagliacci (good job bro)

FUCK EMBIID!

I’ll take 5-5 to start the year, considering the schedule was pretty tough.

Now they get Bulls, Nets, Nets and Wizards. Go rack up some wins.

The Nets are playing way better than expected so far. I don’t think they are an automatic win.

And I’d just like to say that Jericho Sims was not the worst basketball player on the floor tonight.

Tie for that goes to Matt Ryan and Cam Payne.

More seriously, Sims did play both Joel and Drummond straight up consistently without giving an inch. That’s a pair of loads.

Klay with another uniform is sad…

P.S. I agree Raven, Jericho held his ground tonight, I vote for Payne as LVP 😉

The Nets suck and the Knicks better win those 2 games.

They suck on paper, but they are 5-6 and playing well. Two of the losses were in OT (one to Boston and one to Denver) and lost to the Cavs by only 5 in a tough game. We are supposed to beat them twice, especially if they start playing to their talent, but they are outplaying their talent right now. We better be ready.

Flagg looks good but Maluach is my new favorite college basketball player. Kid is enormous!!!

I’ve seen a lot of all-time greats in my day going back to Wilt, West and Oscar. I don’t think there has ever been anyone like Steph Curry. My only regret is that he didn’t play for us, or even in the Eastern Conference where we would have seen more of him.

looks like KAT’s team year to date…

hopefully jalen can adjust to doing less for awhile…his turnovers and poor shot selection have hurt the team so far this season…

let josh and mikal handle the ball more…

“Flagg looks good but Maluach is my new favorite college basketball player. Kid is enormous!!!”

Seems like he likes to dunk really hard…

RJ rocking the sweet .502 TS% right now.

That’s my dude!

The .502 TS% comes with a side of moxie.

Man, we’ve gotta bring TJ Warren up. It looks like he’s playing against middle schoolers in Westchester games.

Tuning in now. Collapse imminent. Fair warning.

Donnie Sixers Fan demands an apology for getting his hopes up.

It sure is nice to have the Warriors as must watch TV again. Greatest nostalgia act still on the circuit.

I see that career 33% shooter Larry Nance jr is 14-19 from three this year, hahahaha.
