2026 NBA Playoffs NBA Finals: Knicks @ Spurs Game 1 – We Are an Impossibility in an Impossible Universe

I’ve been talking so much about how the universe has decided to go out of its way to please me this postseason (and man, has it fucking pleased the shit out of me!), so I thought it only right for me to title this one after a notable Ray Bradbury quote about the universe, which he noted in a 1975 PBS interview with Maya Angelou, “We are an impossibility in an impossible universe.”

That is what it feels like to be rooting for a Knicks team that is not only A. kicking everyone’s ass, but also B. Getting all the right breaks, as well.

Mitchell Robinson literally BROKE HIS HAND, and yet he is going to play for the Knicks tonight. OG Anunoby strained his hamstring and it was, like, “Nah, this is the rare ‘It’s all good’ hamstring strain!” None of this makes ANY sense. Karl Anthony Towns decided, three games into the playoffs, to suddenly play like one of the most valuable players in the NBA. As Knicks fans, it is so hard to deal with so much good fortune. It feels so wrong, and yet, it feels so right.

The Warriors were a bit of a joke for years, and then they weren’t. The Patriots were a joke for years, and then they weren’t. The Red Sox were “cursed,” and then they weren’t.

All I wanted to make this a successful Knicks season was to make the NBA Finals. They’ve done that. I’m already happy with them just getting this far.

However, I mean, come on, they just ANNIHILATED two teams in the last two rounds! They’ve won 11 PLAYOFF games in a row! The Spurs, meanwhile, obviously weren’t expected to make the NBA Finals this fast. The last time we saw a team like this make the NBA Finals earlier than expected was when Lebron dragged a mediocre AF Cavaliers team to the Finals in 2007 (Mike Brown was the coach!) where they were destroyed by the Spurs. The 2026 Spurs are obviously MUCH better than the 2007 Cavaliers, and unlike that team, the Spurs truly are not just “Wemby and some scrubs.” They have a very good team.

They also, however, play sloppy basketball a lot of the time, and they are suspectible to teams that can spread the floor (as Wemby is amazing in the middle, but he obviously can’t guard everyone behind the three-point arc).

That’s the Knicks in the nutshell. They crush sloppy teams, and they can all shoot except ol’ One-Hand Mitch.

If you didn’t know the names of the teams involved, I think most people would be picking the team that has destroyed everyone they have played, and whose skills are the ones that the Spurs struggle with (and who beat the Spurs twice already).

And I don’t think we should change that approach just because they are the Knicks.

So I don’t think I need to ask the universe to hook me up, because we live in impossible times, and the Knicks are just destroying everyone, and I think that that will include the Spurs, as well.

Knicks in five (and I really think it’ll be a sweep, but that just sounds a bit TOO impossible).

Let’s go, Knicks!

Let’s party like it’s 1999, but win this time!

Four more wins to go!

Let’s celebrate ourselves about them winning twelve (games in a row, that is)!

Mom, i’m here for the Knicks in the Finals! 😀

Never thought this day would come again after those dark 2000s and 2010s !! 🧡💙

The trolls are triggered. One turned the tv off here in the office. And Coach Mo comes in here while I’m CLEARLY watching the pregame and purposely overtalks the TV to give me some BS about some pictures.

GO AWAY TROLLS!!!

1

That is a good omen

I’ve seen these guys play for 90 seconds and all I have to say is they had some nerve complaining about OKC’s whistle.

“The Knicks have kicked everyone’s ass, but somehow they won’t kick the Spurs’ ass” – A bunch of dumb people

2

We look sharp and I actually like Hart challenging Wemby early

1

I appreciate that Hart at least tried Wemby

Edit: jinx, Silky lol

Team looks sharper to start than they did against the Cavs, let’s go, I like it.

This pace is fucking insane.

I know there’s been like 6 new threads today

1

This pace is fucking insane.

Knicks are deliberately pushing to get mismatches, I think.

I’m astonished at the pushing, shoving, grabbing that the refs are allowing, it’s a fucking bar brawl out there!

1

They are trying to not film the Knicks fans and it’s… impossible! 😀

There is something about watching Wemby do this things against players we have watched all year, it hits a bit different. Hart has passed on two layups already and then that block.

Whatever. great start.

Don’t seem to be a lot of Knicks fans in San Antonio, are there?

There were much better posts on the other thread… ; )

We are inevitable!!!

Don’t quote the dude that lost!

This has to be Brunson-KAT P&Rs against Kornett every time down the floor.

What a chase down by Mikal! I know it was a foul, but still.

Alright Mitch, do your thing

Well, Dylan Harper is doing his thing. He’s good

I don’t love Brunson’s play to start but it’s early so it’s cool

This thread not as good. Must re-set.

“We’re not in Cleveland any more.”

I think that was offensive interference on Jalen’s layup

Knicks can win this series, but the Spurs’ defense is head and shoulders above the opponents from the East. Night and day.

Harper is some wunderkind

Can’t believe that wasn’t a foul on Brunson just now

You could literally see them tugging on Brunson’s jersey on that drive and no call

2

Put Wemby in, please, we don’t have a game plan for them without Wemby! 😛

The only thing I was worried about was Harper making “The Leap.”

The only thing I was worried about was Harper making “The Leap.”

A-yup. Proper analysis, sir.

You could literally see them tugging on Brunson’s jersey on that drive and no call

It’s like you have to fall down just to get them to call a foul

Fuck, Brunson getting injured in the first quarter was not on my bingo card.

We threw away a good start, with JB the main reason, but there’s a lot to play…

I can’t believe this team complained about OKC’s whistle. I’m pro SGA now.

1

Re-set. KAT playing well. Settle in. JB will be back. Mikal also low-key locked in by eye test. Let’s go!!

1

The start was pretty good
Then the Spurs started pressing higher and we lost easy shots

JB always has this happen he’ll be back and stronger than ever

We need to beat the high press it’s totally messed us up.

1

Yeah Doug I agree, he’s missed some makeable shots. Towns missed one too up close.

Can someone post when theres an update on Brunson? I’m not able to watch in real time

Shamet also feeling it by eye test. OG not heard from yet. Let’s let the guys spread out and do what they do. This was the inevitable Spurs up by ten. What we do … now.

Annoying set of calls on Wemby after everything they allowed them to do on Brunson.

Knicks better without Brunson, Spurs better without Wemby. Just what we expected.

Don’t like those last two shots from Deuce and Shamet. We are chipping away with Brunson out. Run the offense.

Lol, Wemby is complaining about punching KAT in the face?

They will somehow say that KAT fouled Wemby first.

1

Knicks better without Brunson, Spurs better without Wemby. Just what we expected.

LOL

GTA steadied the ship. That KAT call better not be overturned because he moved his off arm

I mean, it’s KAT, and he used his off arm, so they’ll probably change it to an offensive foul.

Gotta say, the Knicks are tough as nails for being in this game with how this is going so far.

These rules are actually fucking nonsense

1

Okay, will Mitch’s finger means he gets his foul shots?

The golden whistle has officially passed from OKC to SAS

Man, the whistle is crazy.

10 FTAs vs 0 and they are in the bonus with 7 min left.

1

Brunson almost killed Scott Foster. Totally justifiable homicide.

3

He got fucking stepped on when he went down. What is this BS??

1

Jesus Christ let us play basketball

1

Our guys are holding tight but there isn’t much you can do playing 5 vs 8…

It’s actually kinda good for us that we’re getting the rust game and the Scott Foster game in one shot

It’s OK. All they’re gonna do is piss Brunson off and ignite the demon.

3

5 on 8

Let’s use it as motivation. Fuck these guys. Beat the shit out of them and make the calls count.

1

It sucks when the NBA won’t let us forget they have crooked refs that rig games and select them to work the fucking finals, eh?

It’s actually kinda good for us that we’re getting the rust game and the Scott Foster game in one shot

True.

Brunson putting Carter Bryant in the torture chamber

1

KAT: “our offense will catch up like it did in Cleveland” i.e. Jalen will get fired up

1

Not exactly loving Brown’s rotations this half.

Don’t we have some guy named OG?

1

Not exactly loving Brown’s rotations this half.

Agreed. Hart’s 3 fouls complicated things (as did KAT’s 2 fouls), but still. Too much Clarkson.

Not exactly loving Brown’s rotations this half.

Rick Brunson handles the subs

I think we should guard their one good three point shooter

I think we should guard their one good three point shooter

Crazy but worth a go

2

Yeah that was on Alvarado drifting too far away from him.

But I’m good with going into the half down a basket or two.

Except that turnover ugh

What the actual fuck are we doing leaving him open

And AGAIN. Very annoying to let that happen at the end.

Fuck you Champagnie.

Ugh that last minute sucked.

But a lot of opportunities for adjustments for the second half

I’ve been saying all week the only player that we have to worry about from 3 is Champagnie.

Let’s keep leaving the one guy open that hits 3s regularly.

Honestly that was a solid half. The Champagnie shit is inexplicable, though.

I can’t believe that they did not drill in these guys that you DO NOT help off Champagnie.
