2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Pistons

The Knicks finally get an easy matchup five games into the season.

Let’s hope for an ass-whooping!

Let’s go, Knicks! I’m feeling great about 58!

I’m just gonna pretend we’re amazing even though this is like 90% Detroit sucking.

Pistons obviously suck balls, but love the ball movement, defense and overall flow here. Feels like the starters are finally gelling. Give them a half and then bring in the bench to see if they can find their groove.

OG is not a good dribbler or overly quick, but he’s good at using his size and strength on offense. He can post smaller guards, and he might see a lot of those this year, or bully his way to the rim on a drive.

He’s deliberate but seems pretty savvy, either going to spots that draw defenders or finding passes.

Yeah Detroit sucks, but this is a great way to work out some of our kinks. And it’s great to see OG get going after a miserable first few games.

As usual I’ve watched way too much Detroit games and so far they’ve always been competitive, we’re crushing them and playing great team basketball, to me it’s a good sign…

A lot of Knicks are going to clean up their season lines tonight….

I don’t believe in the pistons at all….

The Pistons are our personal punching bags, our current 15 games winning streak against them is the longest active between two teams… 😳

Up 26 at the end of the first. Anyone willing to bet on whether the Pistons make a run at some point? Or will we win by 80?

I think I speak for all of us when I say that this would be the worst loss of the season

Detroit has played some competitive games against the same 4 we’ve played before finally beating Philly. I’m not saying they’re good, but they haven’t truly been blown out playing some good teams.

One of the Pistons’ announcers was talking about the Knicks motion offense. It was surreal.

I say let’s get the chants going now.

“Huk Por Tee! Huk Por Tee!”

“Ko Lek! Ko Lek!”

Detroit has been much more competitive this year, this looks like last season’s team.

KAT and OG have mastered comedic timing re: their Knickerblogger critics

maybe the coaching staff has been reading the board

This feels like a pro team playing against a high school team… dominating half so far. Feels good to watch a Knicks game with absolutely no tension at all.

Cleveland are pummeling Orlando without Paolo. Going back the 4th quarter of their last game Orlando has apparently missed 23 consecutive 3s.

Watching the championship Knicks bit — Clyde saying, “End of the third quarter all the starters would be out of the game, we’d have such a big lead.”

From Clyde’s lips to Thib’s ear….

Pistons didn’t seem as bad as their rep so far this year to the point where you could even see this one as a trap game. Boston only beat them by 6 after annihilating us.

How about this Towns guy? He seems a lot better than Randle.

OG has to improve his finishing ability around the rim in non dunking situations. He’s not that good.

If I was going to complain about anything, it’d be Brunson playing with his head down too much. Missing a lot of wide-open teammates.

If there’s a game where he doesn’t have to be a hero, it’d be this one.

Looked like one he could’ve had. There was one last game that was a difficult look, but good enough that he needs to sink it.

I definitely like him more as a 4th option.

Shit I’m feeling nervous now, this might be under 20 by halftime

Detroit lost by 6 with Indiana and Boston, by 8 with Miami and by 12 with the Cavs, they’re not a good team but we did play a very good half with everything clicking on offense and good effort on defense… at least for the first 18 minutes.

Then Hart felt bad for them and made some gifts to raise their spirit…

Here i am. I forgot that for one week (or is it two?) we have 1h less of time difference. This is going great, i see.

@cyber as a man with weekly trans Atlantic zoom meetings I can confirm we’re back on the same schedule next week

My biggest pet peeve, grab a huge lead and then allowing the other team to jack up 3s at will which is the only way they can come back.

Thanks, BJ. 🙂

Simms really has poor timing/positioning when it comes to rebounds. Not sure if they have someone that can teach him to be more patient or observant.

There’s some real potential in this KAT at the top of the paint action with guys cutting backdoor, specially since Hart is so good at cutting and finding space.

Josh two buckets away from all five starters getting in double figures again!

Brunson trying to one up KATs point total from last game before the starters get pulled

OG is herky jerky on his 3 point shot sometimes. I don’t remember him doing that last year.

On that last one his stroke was smooth and he nailed it.

Would y’all rather KAT triple double or 0 minutes for starters in the 4th?

Unless KAT really wants to do it, like it’s his first or something, i’d prefer to rest the starters.

Apparently he’s had 2 before

Josh has only played 36 minutes so far. Not nearly enough for someone so banged up.

And we’re only up 30 with under 6 minutes left. No sense getting your two priceless offensive dynamos out of the game now. Not when you can win by 32.

why is Paul Reed on the Pistons as their 3rd Center? I thought he was pretty good the last couple of years, couldn’t he find any other team?

Nice question Bruno, I was thinking the same…

Smooth win, the offensive potential is insane, next stop Houston to face the surprising Rockets…

That’s what I came to see. Rookie mistakes.

(That’s unironic.)

The kids looked pretty good in their 5 minutes except huk, who seemed kind of discombobulated

@Bruno

Apparently the 6ers cut reed after the postseason and the Pistons picked him up off Waivers

Apparently Reed was waived by the Sixers and the Pistons simply picked him up on the wire, so he had no real choice, but still really weird, he’s a very passable backup big for a better team. I guess it made sense for the Pistons to absorb a decent asset with their cap.

edit: thanks BJ! yeah, I don’t expect the Pistons to keep all 3 Centers all year long

Normal team: kolek and huk must have done something to annoy the coach
Knicks: grind the starters into dust

Weird game in Charlotte,
LaMelo missed a technical FT to tie the game with just under 8 minutes to go, then in the last 5 minutes Charlotte melted: 2 flagrants, 2 technicals, LaMelo fouled out, Williams and Bridges were ejected, the Celtics shot 20+ FT In the 4th…

Weird

Pistons fans are not happy apparently with Duren. Who did look like a turnstile tonight.

“Joel Embiid to critics: ‘I’ve done way too much for this f—— city’

Would KAT, Giannis, Jokic and Embiid be too deep a front court for us?

Duren looks so lost on the court, like he never played organized basketball before. I know he’s super young still it feels like he’s never been coached… which might actually be the case given now much Monty Williams just phoned in last season for the Pistons.

Bruno, that’s so true. I was going to make some cutesy comment earlier about Sims being better than Duren, which wouldn’t have been true, but would have been close. That’s not a good thing.
