2025-26 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Nets

After kicking the ass of a good Minnesota Timberwolves team (Anthony Edwards seemed like his feet were in molasses, but still), the Knicks get an easier row to hoe with the terrible Brooklyn Nets, who will be without Cam Thomas for a month or so, so they were already bad and are now even WORSE.

People really seemed to think that the Eastern Conference wasn’t going to suck this year. It totally sucks, and that is really great news for the Knicks!

Let’s go, Knicks!

Feeling great about 58!

I agree about the Trail Blazers being a pleasant surprise. And they may have reached with Yang, but also Williams is healthy and laying well so it’s hard to tell

Every now and then KAT will throw a pass that makes me fantasize about his (limited) point forward potential. That sling to Mikal in the corner was sick.

Just unrecognizable compared to last year. They won’t always go in so much but keep getting ‘em up.

Trying to think who this “Steve” is announcing, then remembered it’s Novak. So far not horrible.

Clarkson needs to know that a catch and shoot KAT 3 is better than him pulling up in transition.

Maybe we should be up 30, but our defense wasn’t good. We gave up 62 points and it wasn’t because of freaky shooting by the Nets. They got lots of nice looks.

Not quite sure why OG isn’t glued to Michael Porter Jr. There’s no other person to worry about on that team.

It really is amazing how good OG and Bridges have become at getting and making corner 3s.

I don’t remember a Knicks team in my lifetime that moved the ball like this. Just hope they keep it up because it really enhances the viewing experience (and seems good for winning games too).

We’re kind of spoiled Knicks fans. Yes the Nets stink and shouldn’t be getting 60 points in a half, but the offense is humming like a well oiled machine.

Enjoy it!

So does Mitch sit Tuesday vs Memphis or Wednesday vs Orlando? I’d prefer if he played vs Orlando but curious to see how the Knicks handle this back to back.

“Just realized Yabu is completely out of the rotation”

Yeah, EB, didn’t even think about him until you brought it up!

Just gonna say. KAT has five fouls, over 20 points, has his double-double. Free the Huk!

Yay! Huk!

So the winner of the Huk sweepstakes is anyone with 8 minutes left.

Yabu getting cooked by whoever those 2 guys were

Clarkson hustling on D up 40 is nice to see

Yabu hit a three earlier on, just as I was winding up to insult him with great fervor…

“I would still really like to see Yabu hit a shot”

You musta blinked at the 1-minute mark of the 3rd…

Gosh darn it. With this new coach and wild rotations I’m going to have to learn more than 8 Knicks on the roster. Kolek just did a nice pick and pass to “I dunno” who drove to the lane and kicked it out to someone who missed a trey. It was beautiful, but who are these people?

My thoughts:

Man the Nets fucking stink.

I know it’s meaningless but Mitch being +40 in 16 minutes is extremely funny. He looked like he was playing against children.

Mo Diawara you have my attention

So how much did Mikal Bridges hate Thibs? Not only is he playing light years better this season but he’s vocal as hell on the court as well. You never saw that last year.

Sure, the Nets are the worst team in the league and missing one of their best offensive players. But that was still very impressive.

If Diawara can hit 3s, the Knicks might have something.

Dadiet’s FT form looks so smooth.

According to StatMuse Luc Mbah a Moute had a +57 but that bum needed 26 minutes. Everyone I can see on the list sans subscription is over 20min but not always that far over. Wally was once +50 in 22min

I think there are still lots of things to complain about. There are just more things to be happy about.

The Nets do not provide an effective proving ground for much of anything. I don’t think you can handwave away the three road losses, especially the ones to Milwaukee and Miami. Nor do the wins over Cleveland on opening night or Minny on the tail end of a road trip with Ant-Man a shell of himself do a lot for me.

We play a fragmented but well-rested Memphis team at home on Tuesday night. One would expect that we win that game, although maybe the Grizz come together just because it’s their only trip to MSG. In a way, I think it’s a bit of a trap game, so I won’t be overly alarmed by a “variance” loss to a desperate team.

However, after that, the real fun begins. In the following 5 games:

-we will play Orlando twice, and I think they will be gunning for us. I’m not fooled by their slow start, they will be a very formidable team once they work out the kinks.
-we play Miami in a delayed home-and-away. They handled us pretty easily last time, but that was without Mitch and with Yabu, Kolek, and Huk playing 36 minutes and Hart being a shell of himself.
-we play Dallas, who might also be sort of a trap game, they are probably better than their current record.

If we’re as good as we hope we are, we should go at least 4-2 in these 6 games, and preferably 5-1. It’s not the end of the world if we go 2-4 or even 1-5, but it would suggest that there are still lots of kinks to work out. Even tonight, I thought we got away with lots of bad decisions.

Duren with another monster game….21 points on 11 shots, 16 rebounds, 4 stocks. Pistons are 8-2.

Still don’t have a road win!

Point taken, but we weren’t 100%.

Hart was still recovering, Mitch was out and Deuce missed a couple of games.

I said all summer I think this season will be all about Mitch. We have the same team as last year except for a minor upgrade with Yabu/Clarkson over Precious/Paine. That’s not a big deal. It even looks a little suspect with Clarkson looking better than I feared so far but Yabu even worse on defense than I feared.

Mitch is the HUGE addition we were missing last year. He takes us from that 50 win level give or take to the next level. So far, he is not disappointing, but imo this team is not going to be a serious contender unless we keep MItch healthy and productive or make some kind of move I can’t foresee right now. Healthy MItch is a beast, gives us needed depth, kicks the defense (our weakness) up a notch and those extra possessions make up for any lack of scoring on his part.

Mitch is +40. Is there a record for that stat?

Apparently he’s the first player to record a +40 or higher in 18 minutes or less. Does that count?
