2025-26 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Bulls

Time to stop the Bulls’ undefeated season!

Sorry, the Bills/Chiefs game distracted me.

Let’s go, Knicks!

“Thanks, Z-Man. Drinking a strange champagne cocktail in celebration of the Knicks getting back to 500.

It ain’t a single malt, but the damn clock thing means the sun’s not yet down over the yardarm here.”

I’m recovering from a very unsober Halloween weekend. My buddies and I went to a party dressed as referees with money coming out of our collars and pockets.

From previous thread: where would we be without Brunson? His defense may not be great, but half the time he’s the only guy who can score.

I still don’t think he can shoot worth a damn, but Hart does seem a little more active out there. Doing the Josh Hart Things.

Still think he should get the surgery…fingers of NBA players should not be at angles.

If this team were just Jalen Brunson and Mitch Robinson and a bunch of guys, I’d still be a fan

Fred Katz reporting Hart has nerve damage to his entire right hand not just his finger.

Hart seems like his back if fully recovered. The finger, not so much.

Mitch making a huge impact in his 6 minutes.

Yabba the Butt eating possessions out there…

Here comes the patented Knicks defense of giving up wide open 3s immediately after gaining a double digit lead.

At least Don Nelson had the Knicks playing great basketball first couple of months before he got fired…

This may be the worst defense I’ve ever seen KAT play by quite a bit, and that’s saying something.

Yikes

Giddey tends to get stopped when OG guards him. No idea why Brown won’t make that switch. Maybe protecting Mikal’s ego.

Maybe it happened during the surgery.

With every passing game JC becomes more and more indistinguishable from JR

OG guards Giddey and on the first possession Giddey gets stopped beyond the 3pt line. Finally.

Given how the Knicks shot from deep, this lead feels pretty ominous. The defense is untenable. Just putting KAT in P&R over and over and over, and getting whatever they want.

Clarkson did something funny earlier in the second quarter. Deuce got stuck on Vuc in the post, was getting mauled trying to hold position, and Clarkson reached in and shoved Vuc so he fell out toward the three point line.

I thought in first two games our dee was active/decent….now…well…I don’t think any opposing coaches are losing sleep on how to attack us….

This half-time (high school?) game is really making me appreciate Josh Hart’s shooting.

Knicks use to give up Giddey triple doubles when he was on the Thunder , so this Bulls stuff is nothing new

KAT gets put in the pick and roll over and over and obviously can’t defend it. KAT can’t be the on the floor much with another bad defender (Brunson)

The whole KAT should be shooting more 3’s thing doesn’t seem to be a thing with Mike Brown, so far at least…

Great start to 2nd half Brunson bricks a couple of 3s Mitch gets hurt going for the offensive reb Bulls get an easy layup on the other end.

The offense consistently generates good shots, and the defense consistently generates good shots for the opponent.

Yeah Knicks offense will probably finish top 5 again, its as always gonna depend on how they defend. The hope also is this style of offense will translate better come playoff time.

I guess Kolek is out of the rotation?

Seems that way. Can’t complain. He showed some flashes, so maybe not hopeless, but Brown was just playing too many guys.

What are these substitutions?? Shamet went out for a minute, now he’s back. What is this?

Mikal with only 10 pts, but 9 assists and 5 rebounds. Also 2-2 from the foul line!

“Bulls took OKC to the cleaners getting Giddey”

Yeah, but they really didn’t need Giddey and his impending extension. I mean they are 6-0 without arguably their second-best player.

Clarkson can still get in the paint more easily than all the non-Jalens. Sometimes he can even do something good after too.

Clearly Clarkson’s best game with us, hopefully a preview of what he can bring when he settles in. Only 2 terrible shots tonight, and some nifty passes.

Marechal, it’s not up by 30, but will 21 do?

20-34 from deep and 19-19 from the line. If I see these, I expect a real blowout (and it was a 12 or 14 point game when I posted that).

Bulls took OKC to the cleaners getting Giddey

I think that trade was mostly a matter of fit and immediate need. Giddey is at his best with the ball in his hands making plays, but OKC has Shai for that. OKC was going to move Giddey to a bench role, but Giddey wanted to and should start. So OKC added a veteran impact player to go with their youth and made their defense even better.

I could get used to Knicks consistently dominating teams at MSG like its 1993 again.

This ^^^^^^^^^^

good point marechal, at this point it occurs 3 or 4 times throughout each game, his teammates should be prepared…

Edit: even when the layup goes in, it still takes him like 4 or 5 seconds to get back up off the ground…

If this stays a blowout I’ll be really curious to see at what point Brown empties the bench

(Unlike his predecessor, who thought a 20 point lead with 2 minutes left wasn’t safe)

When you have a 20+ point lead early in the 4th, maybe jacking up 3’s on every possession is not the way to go.

Our defense still doesn’t look very good, but i guess if they put great effort, it can passable. Maybe they should do it more often.

Clarkson has played pretty good defense. I appreciate his effort. This is best-case JC.

It’s nice to see those little Brunson plays. He’s scoring so easily off the catch this year that we don’t get to see him needling his way through the defense as much.

nice move by jalen on the baseline…

so cool he can play so well in the paint with that sturdy body and fancy footwork of his…

like the look of staggering josh and mitch on the court…

Angry Brunson is the best Brunson

Edit: though that long 3 wasn’t ideal

Well now we know — Brown only empties the bench at the 30 second mark.

Nice to see that in this “must-win” game, Brown still didn’t play anyone more than 36 minutes.

I see we took 47 threes, that’s too many for my liking, and I think that a couple of those in the last 5 minutes were unnecessary, but at least they were going in.

The little victories…Mitch playing 2 games in a row, Hart looking better.

Less good: We are very thin at the backup big spot. Huk and Yabu have both been bad, so we need to fix that, hopefully by one or both of them being, well, less bad.

We’ve got the Wiz tomorrow night, Minnesota without Ant Wednesday and then the Nets and the Grizz after that. All home games.

No excuse not to reel off another 4 wins.

I’d be happy with 8-4 at the end of the home stand. Brown is still figuring some things out about his team.

If Yabu weren’t playing so poorly I’d feel pretty good about the lineup. 10 guys tonight, each of them earning their time. Except Yabu.

Well it’s at least pretty clear that Brown is going to keep Yabu on a short leash. He becomes trade-eligible in December, not that anyone would want him.

His stock has dropped pretty far pretty fast. I wouldn’t give up on him being able to be productive on offense, but I think what we really need is a plus defender that can shoot a little and be reasonably efficient. We got Clarkson to score. Let him do his thing, but we need some more defense in that second unit and to come in once in awhile with the starters.

That’s news to me,” Brown said of Hart’s issues. “[VP of Sports Medicine] Casey [Smith] has handled as best he can, and Josh has, too

they really have separated the coaching staff from player medical information…
