2025-26 Game Thread: Knicks @ Hornets

The Hornets are terrible, although they probably have the Rookie of the Year on their squad right now, so that’s nice for them.

In any event, the clear point is that the Knicks really need to win this game, and SHOULD win this game.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Go for 58 as Thanksgiving we celebrate!

Z-man, I can imagine the players association insisting that players can’t be cut while injured to protect their members from being cut because of injuries. They also need the medical care when injured and it should be provided by the team.

I get that, but the team should be protected, too, in other words, maybe extend the deadline for guaranteeing the contract until after the player comes back, or give the team some other kind of out where the players still gets compensated without salary cap ramifications.

What’s not to like about Josh Hart…

Nine points in 5 and a half minutes…

Thank goodness Brown replaced Josh with Yabu. That should improve things…

If enough players get injured there’s the hardship exception that lets you sign a another player on a 10-day contract without cap penalties.

There’s also the disabled player exception if they’re likely missing the rest of the year.

The league probably thinks these cover the teams, on top of having 3 extra players on 2-ways compared to earlier NBA teams.

But yeah, it’s weird you can’t cut them like normal but still keep them on the payroll till they’re healthy or the season ends. The NBA could add in a waiting period before the team can re-sign the player to avoid gaming the system.

He shot 37% from 3 in the playoffs, largely (entirely?) with the splint on. So… maybe?

Somebody tape Mitch’s fingers together

Pepper, it’s worse. It’s pronounced “Ka-nipple.”

Not sure why that’s worse, but it is.

Hart at the half:
FG 7-9, 3P 3-3, FT 2-2, TRB 4, AST 4, STL 1, TO 1, PF 0 (zero!!), PTS 19
👏👏👏

And let’s look at the guy who subbed in for him early on:

FG 0-0, 3P 0-0, FT 0-0, TRB 1, AST 0, STL 0, TO 0, PF 1 (one!), PTS 0.

I agree, Z-Man. Kolek got exposed a few times for the crime of being not tall, but he was hustling like crazy and that dime to Mikal was brilliant. Plus he did some kind of mad chicken-flap, two-step thing that I think so startled Miles Bridges that he traveled. Made me laugh.

A bunch of zeros? Is that Ntilikina? 😀

Jordan Brink. Remember that name. The guy in the back in charge of not making challenges.

Ball annoys the heck out of me and I think he’s way over-rated (or was, maybe not so much anymore), but I’ve got to give him props for putting color on his tats.

That Clarkson euro-step was so slow I almost fell asleep watching it, but it still worked.

Thank goodness the guy who got hurt in the last 3 minutes of a 25+ win was a Hornet…

Kolek just generally seems a lot more comfortable out there. Now that Shamet is on the shelf, it seems like he’s gonna have a real opportunity to carve out a rotation spot.

Kolek hitting those last few shots, including the three, was the cherry on this sundae.

Meanwhile Huk with another monster game, averaging 16 rebounds and 16 blocks shots per 36. Of course he was also 0-16 from the field per 36…

That Charlotte team sure is awful huh? Shame they ended up with Brandon Miller instead of Wemby.

And people think Kon is ROY material? Didn’t see it tonight.

I’d like to see the Knicks beat a good team like the beat the bottom feeders.
