2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Heat

After a tough loss at home, the Knicks head down to Miami where they hope to, you know, beat the Heat.

Bam is an interesting matchup for Towns. I’d love to see Towns kick his ass.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Things will be great when we hit 58!

My first game this season. Be gentle, naysayers. And can we get a friggin’ pick and roll going tonight?!

It’s been said before, but I’ll say it again anyway: I fucking hate the Heat.

Hart is so funny. He should be in bed in a dark room with a cold compress over his eyes next to a bottle of pain killers. Instead he’s going to get multiple digit rebounds again.

KAT playing well + Bam still on the floor = Jericho Sims

Maybe it’s a conditioning thing…

I think that’s going to be the normal rotation, OG & KAT out early

Jerich-no

Surprised he’s in over Hukporti. Guess Thibs wants to give him every chance before benching him for a rookie.

Our defense is the bad kind of bad.

KAT has been bad near the hoop on offense.

Not terribly excited by the Cam Payne Experience.

Funny was reading somewhere that CP3 taught him how to point guard. I guess he’s mostly forgotten it.

Also when KAT gets underneath and the other team gets the rebound, he’s super slow getting back. A lot of 4 on 5s. Sorta reminds me of that Julius fellow.

And it’s nice seeing Alec Burks.

It’s going to take a while for me to adjust to the total lack of interior defense.

Ok, I am never going to make that adjustment

Yeah I love KAT as our #2 option, and he’s been good tonight, but the lack of rim protection is alarming.

We have troubles finishing fastbreak, Towns should at least raise his arms on defense and his moving screens are annoying, but he’s been good on offense so far…

Drew Smith is killing us. He was eating Payne’s lunch, and has been a problem for Brunson now.

My O/U win total strategy going forward will be based entirely on who has a newborn. Brunson looks like garbage.

OGs drives look terrible but good things seem to happen more than bad things… and now he throws a terrible inbounds

Not breaking any major news – Brunson needs to play like a star, not a bench player

What’s Herro’s career high? Just asking

Finally decided it was worth looking up: 41pts

It’s fine. Just give Deuce his minutes.

that was josh setting the stack screen in that spain pnr on the lob to kat. way better spot for him.

Mostly been watching the Yankees, my friends have sent me a bunch of negative messages about the Knicks and then I turned this on and it’s all tied-Deuce and Karl doing the scoring for us?

We need to defend the three better. Problem is….we can’t defend the three.

If Jalen Brunson has turned into Emmanuel Mudiay like Freaky Friday style or something, we’re probably not going to be very good

A cardboard cutout of sims could actually be better than the real life Jericho

Discuss

Need to find out who in the front office still has some high valuation of Sims and continues to allow him on an NBA court.

Sims jumped very high twice and got a rebound each time. Cardboard can’t jump.

Finally some PnR/Alley oop action!

Haha. I missed it grabbing a quick dinner.

Our expensive wing duo is 2-10 from three so far.

And aren’t they supposed to make rim protection an afterthought b/c no one gets there?

Overall this is sound. I would love to see NBA players’ annual stats plotted against the years with newborns at home. Haha.

Brunson is playing poorly on both sides. It’s time to move Kolek to the starting lineup. Just skip him a grade. 😜😜😜😜

Our defense sucks a$$.

And aren’t they supposed to make rim protection an afterthought b/c no one gets there?

Pretty much

What’s Thibs value if he needs a rim protecting Center to have a good defense while having three good defenders in his starting lineup?

When Precious comes back he becomes the starting PF . Anything to help Thibs.

“Has Bronny played yet?”

Yeah, of course. He played a few minutes in the first game of the season, but not since then. (Unless he’s played tonight. I’m not following that game.)

I know Bronny played opening night, it was more about tonights game back home in Cleveland. Apparently the Lakers left all the G league players back in LA and took Bronny on the trip to play him.

This is disgusting. I should be watching the Yankees

You have to be a huge fan to choose a regular season game over the World Series

“You have to be a huge fan to choose a regular season game over the World Series”

Or, or…….one could just not be a fan of baseball.

Build a statue of the guys who stole the ball from Betts outside of Yankee Stadium

Revising prediction for our defense: we are bottom five. Every perimeter scorer is gonna play like a superstar against us this year.

Should have clocked that the year Brunson had last year would have a high risk of regression with the broken shooting hand and new baby. If he’s not tentpole caliber anymore the play-in probably becomes more like our ceiling than our expectation like it is now.

Revising prediction

I’ve been away. Did we do the win prediction thread? If not, maybe tomorrow 😉

went down 10, timeout, and then came back strong.
wonder what thibs said….

“The KAT highlight reel is getting pretty long…”

I don’t mind you doing this shit so long as you don’t mind if I trash him when he sucks, which I’m sure will be often. How do you want to proceed?

Watching the Knicks and Yankees is too much torture. I’m switching to the Halloween bake-off.

Does any team in any sport in any year make more dumb mistakes than these Yankees?

The Yankees are producing the worse inning of defense I’ve seen since the 1960s when I was 7 playing CYO little league.

Clyde hits it right: “That will silence the critics. For one game.” Haha.

Nice night. Go Yankees!!

What’s the matter EB, KAT got your tongue?

It’s an early season game but that’s a satisfying road win against a pretty decent team. Needed that to stop the panic.

Guess the way to integrate KAT is for him to just take the ball when he gets it and beclown whoever’s guarding him.

Bronny got his first NBA points tonight on a jumper. Can’t believe I got an alert on my phone about that one.

looking forward to the 27 articles on ESPN about history being made. Glad I was here for it.

Pretty nice win with a good second half on both ends, it offsets the home loss to the Cavs.

Brunson tried to involve is teammates and hit some big threes after a bad first half, KAT was a monster, others had their shiny moments.

8-men rotation, it’s playoffs time already 😉

Always satisfying as hell to beat the Heat in their own building, specially with such a great game by KAT. Straight up dominating against a DPOY candidate in Adebayo, very aggressive on the boards, games like this is why you make a trade to bring him to your team.

Not really worried about Brunson, his shooting has been putrid and he’s had some apparent small injuries here and there, but he’s built enough of a track record with us that I’m sure he’ll get back to form.

Let’s just pray that it wasn’t on a pass from his Dad.

Unironically excited to watch the KAT highlight reel. Looks like a 15+ minute performance to me 😤

This was a big win. Brunson didn’t have a good game, Bridges wasn’t very efficient, OG didn’t do much, but we still managed to win because Towns was other worldly and Josh Hart is in playoff form.

You can see the potential on offense.

The defense has been very inconsistent. It was bad for a stretch, but they are showing they are capable of defending on a high level for stretches.

Just keep in mind that Z-Man has met all the procedural requirements and reserved his right to demand that you watch Julius’s reels!

oh nice, Indy managed to blow a huge lead but win in OT over the Celtics, who I guess aren’t invincible. Too bad Cleveland is going 82-0

Other than deuce…our bench is as Clyde would say..”a motley crew”….we need to shore it up somehow

Aside from JB missing some shots inside that he generally makes the only bad thing tonight was the bench being useless outside of deuce. I guess Cam made some nice passes, but we can’t go night after night with only one guy on the bench scoring.

The Nets have enough decent guys to be just sort of bad until they trade most of them and go full bore tank

but we can’t go night after night with only one guy on the bench scoring.

The bench will firm up once Precious and Mitch are back and will firm up further once Thibs is ready to start using Huk and Kolek more. I’m not sure what the story is with Shamet, but we could use one more scorer.

I’m glad we won tonight, but the Heat are not really that good, so I’m not going to draw any conclusions beyond it being a nice early season road win.

The small dose of Yankee baseball I experienced this year reminded me of the Bargnani knicks. Not sure how they made it as far as they did.

So long as I’m alive, they will always be the Brooklyn Dodgers. Jackie Robinson’s team, the guy who is memorialized in CitiField’s rotunda. If not the Mets, glad it’s them.

What a contrast between 2 teams – the Yankees played stupid baseball all series and the Dodgers executed at every turn – including 2 sac flies with the bases loaded and no one out in the 8th.

Well deserved championship

I just logged on to say that I hate life.

I’m also disavowing my baseball fandom. Going to follow competitive pickleball. Jowles where are ya?

Well this horribly depressing subway ride back to Brooklyn is a great opportunity to catch up on the game thread

Do basketball players wear ski goggles to keep the champaign out of their eyes nowadays, too? Or is it just baseball dorks?
