We will find out tonight if the Spurs are really cocky or just that good.

They were very nonchalant about losing game 1. That could mean they know they played like shit and are going to bring it to a whole new level tonight and blow the doors off. That’s exactly what they did to Minnesota after losing Game 1 at home.

But it could also mean their inexperience is shining through, and they have no idea that this is going to be a lot different than Game 2 against the Timberwolves a month ago.

I’ve been shorting them this whole time with confidence, but I’m also thin slicing bc there’s really not a lot of evidence yet. If they come out tonight and throttle us, or if Wemby posts a crazy 40 / 20 / 8 / 6 line, I will be forced to reexamine my priors, and my confidence will evaporate.

If my thesis is correct, they’re overconfident and we’ll win this game. It will look something like game 3 against Philadelphia, when they came storming out of the gate, we absorbed everything, and won going away.

(By the way Philadelphia has been getting shit on a lot for being a bad team in our path, but there’s not a lot of NBA teams that would have handled them in that game 3. If the Knicks finish off the Spurs like I think they will, Philly and Cleveland are going to get a reprieve. I still think those were good teams that only looked meek because of us.)

Also… guys…. sorry but we can’t tell Robert Silverman to obey the no politics rule!

You don’t get roses without thorns, and you don’t get OG Knickerblogger content without Robert dumping some of his random rage.

As soon as I saw the headline, I smiled ear to ear. I didn’t actually read the post bc fuck politics, but it wouldn’t be KB without something like that getting posted.

I think you need Chamberlain to go 82-0, his stats are ridiculous.

You need him on the Warriors, or you need Kareem on the Bucks. I have gotten both of them at different times, but never with a good enough supporting cast. So I’m stubbornly continuing to play the game until I get it.

In more important news, I got 82-0. I got a little lucky in that I got prime Wilt (1960s) and current Luka (say what you will about his defense, his counting stats are insane). Added Dirk and Grant Hill (Pistons era), and then needed some luck for SG, which I left for last figuring any team in any era probably had a SG who could at least score. Pulled Charlotte in the 1990s – uh-oh. Except they listed LJ as playing SG then, and his stats were pretty decent.

Mostly, though, I think the 59 rebounds per game sealed the deal. Hard to lose when you average 59 boards!

Edit: but yeah, Golden State Wilt with 41 ppg and 25 rpg is pretty helpful lol

Westbrook is important, too. The game loves him.

And Pistons era Grant Hill is basically Michael Jordan.

I’ve been enjoying geo’s version of the game, i.e. 0-82. But I added a wrinkle — at least 4 of the 5 players have to be someone that everyone on this blog knows existed.

I managed to go 10-72 with the following:

    PG Killian Hayes
    SG Johnny McCarthy (?)
    SF Cam Reddish
PF Vin Baker (in his alcoholic era)
    C Herb Williams

I basically determine which version of the game I will play based on the first spin. If I get Wilt or Kareem, I’m going for 82-0. But if I draw the 80’s Hornets, I’m going for 0-82.

The general discourse about using a wing on KAT and leaving Wemby or center X to protect the rim totally depends on having the wing (or 2nd big like Cleveland had) that can actually do that — and it really seems to Spurs do not have that person. KAT really has just been beasting on smaller wings on the offensive glass and post. Just awesome to watch.

Brunson is our closer but it really does seem like KAT is the basketball version of the chess queen – the omnipotent pice which forces all kinds of strategic compromises by the opponent — people talk about Hart being the Iguodala equivalent, but KAT has at various times been any of apex 3 level scorer, monster defensive rebounder, monster offensive rebounder, point center, and rim protector. It’s been mentioned a lot but his transformation this post-season at age 30 has to be one of the most remarkable stories in NBA history. Let’s just keep it going for 3 MORE WINS!!!

I managed to go 10-72 with the following:

I was tempted to try it, but it almost seems too easy…maybe not!

My next goal will be to make a decent team out of OAKAAK. Allowed to pick players on other teams who were good then even if they were terrible on the Knicks. Curious if I’ll be able to break 60….

you could lock me in a room with nothing but 82-0 and all the episodes of keeping up with the kardashians and i’d be on season 14.

Also… guys…. sorry but we can’t tell Robert Silverman to obey the no politics rule!

To put this “rage” in its true and proper perspective, on the day between Games 2 and 3 of the 1970 Finals (*), the United States invaded Cambodia.

    (*) Thanks, Times archives!!

I think Castle could be that wing, Frank.

If there’s a move Mitch Johnson could make tonight that would scare me, it would be starting Dylan Harper. They put Castle on KAT, Harper on Brunson, and Wemby under the basket.

That would be very bold, though, and based on everything the Spurs have said, they think they just have to play their game and everything will be fine.
