“It’s just the toughness, man,” Hart said. “Everyone talks about this team, we don’t have the physicality, we don’t do this, we don’t do that. We tune that out. At one point, I think we were down 10 in that fourth quarter and we just got stops.”

That was a freaking game! The definition of stars taking over in the 4th. KAT and Brunson were insane and Hart too (3 out of 5 three’s ain’t bad!)

Mikal was frustrating me all game with his missed shots and then came up big when it mattered.

Detroit – cry harder! You mauled our dudes all series, you don’t get to bitch about a missed foul call when 2 seconds prior Harris fouls the shit out of Hart.

The team is definitely showing some toughness and I’m loving it.

Now we just gotta close them out Tuesday and BRING ON BOSTON!

Hey, do I think we can beat them? No. Not really? Do I think we got a shot? Sure, why the hell not?

Mikal was frustrating me all game with his missed shots and then came up big when it mattered.

And he played good defense! Ideally at some point he, and the team as a whole, does everything well in the same game, but it hasn’t happened yet. Odds on it occurring during the playoffs — especially if we go up against Boston in the next round — aren’t high, but a boy can dream, can’t he?

It seems to me that our extremely slim chance to pull off a Kat for giannis trade depended on the bucks wanting to stay competitive, and the lillard injury likely ended that dream.

I hate the narrative about the final shot. Yes, it was a foul that the refs missed. But so much focus is on that one call, that the entire performance of the refs are completely forgotten. They have been bad the entire series- especially yesterday. They were awful yesterday. I don’t wanna take anything away from the Pistons because I respect the fight they have. But if this series was called evenly, the Knicks probably sweep. There were SO many Brunson, KAT, and Anunoby drives where they got hacked a couple of times on the play, and the refs whistle was clogged*shrugs*. As close as these games have been, as little as 6 FT’s would have been a major difference. So what I need is for the media and some of these surface level fans on X to STFU. It’s disrespectful to both teams’ strong play to keep harping on that final play when so much has gone wrong with officiating.

That’s it. That’s my rant for the day lol

Fine, we’ll give them Mikal for Giannis instead.

Going into the series I was hoping for the Knicks to win in 5 by mostly easy wins to show their true superiority but I actually think winning like they have so far might be better. Certainly has made for a much more entertaining series than I expected.

It seems to me that our extremely slim chance to pull off a Kat for giannis trade depended on the bucks wanting to stay competitive, and the lillard injury likely ended that dream.

The flip side is that Giannis really doesn’t want to leave Milwaukee if he doesn’t have to. And with a healthy-ish Dame, he could keep talking himself into the idea that if Horst made the right moves around the margins, it could work. So this injury might be the only thing that gets him to ask for a trade.

Right now, though, I want to focus on this squad, for as long as we can.

For all the talk about KAT’s fadeaway, didn’t Julius make that exact shot several times in the We Here season? It’s incredible no matter what — and the stage was much bigger — but I had some real deja vu when I saw him do it.

On the last rebound the announcer is saying in real time ”Harris is fouling”. It was very clear that he did. Hart should get the game ball for being able to shake loose and get to Timmy in time, it was an amazing play. And fuck the foul, I don’t think it was as clearly a must call as some are saying.

This pretty much sums up my views:

    @ClaireMPLS
if there’s one thing that grinds my gears it’s teams (not just detroit by any means) whose entire postseason success is predicated on beating the shit out of their opponents with impunity deciding to selectively pearl clutch about missed foul calls

    give me a break

normally what jb did yesterday would easily be the best performance of a playoff day, but that would dimnish what ant did still thank you capn we would not be here without ya

lets just get a lil bit more from mitch and or deuce and put this thing away tomorrw

When I first saw the play, I thought Hardaway initiated much of the contact and it was a 50/50 non call. After watching it again, I saw more contact then I had thought. Nonetheless, Detroit absolutely mauled us the entire game (one of the worst officiated games I’ve seen in a long time) and for much of the series. It’s really hard for them now to complain about the last play.

Educate – Thank you for the clip. Makes me feel better. That is a clear foul.

Jalen Brunson is a very special player… the Pistons want to complain about anything, it’s not capitalizing on knocking him out of the game. We were without our best player and demoralized for what seemed like an interminable period of time and then he just magically appeared… sent back from the abyss with Hermes anklets. Sure they could have won that game, but sometimes the refs get taken too. Brunson was a splendor to behold yesterday.

    THAT WAY!!
    +100

Brunson’s play in 4th quarters has been absolutely outstanding, even when he had “bad” games he went to another level in the clutch.

KAT’s clutchness on the other hand is a pleasant surprise.

How many times since Brunson has been here has he gone down with an injury and it looked bad. He goes to the locker room hobbling then comes back and just fucking takes over.

    Brunson is THE MAN.

But also…KAT was THE MAN yesterday too!

Superstars doing their thing. Sure is nice to have them on our team.

I never thought we would see a greater commitment to the bit on this site than E’s, but what we’re witnessing lately with Not-Doogie is really quite something.

jb (21) at kat (12) are nos 1 and 2 in clutch points this playoffs gordon and harden each with 11 and ant and donovan each with 10 quite remarkable

Cyber, I hope you and your family are okay.

Ditto. That’s a terrifying situation. Not like the first blackout in NY… that was entirely the best. Hope all your people are okay, Cyber.

I suspect Cyber can’t respond till they restore power… but I hope he’s doing alright

good point ebw i did not realize that the situation was still happening thought it was over

RIP Dick Barnett and thanks for the Championships.

I’ve only watched videos about him, but his “leg kick” jump shot motion was peculiar (the only other player I remember doing it with regularity was Charlie Yelverton, anyone has other suggestions?).

    Wanna wretch? Read this.

    https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/the-pistons-were-robbed-on-a-non-call-that-knicks-star-jalen-brunson-routinely-gets/

Jalen Brunson is one of the most egregious foul-baiters on 3-point shots in the league, and he has gotten the benefit of multiple whistles in this series that were far more controversial than the Hardaway play.

Does anyone have any good videos of non-calls in this series? Especially from that game, like the whole 3rd quarter? Or even a better angle of Harris fouling to get the rebound right before this shot?

The Tobias arm hook on Hart is honestly a more obvious foul than the THJ bump, and this discourse is taking place a few days after the Pistons got a literal do-over on the last play of a playoff game they lost. Cry more.

Yesterday was the first time all season this team felt like it had the kind of “never say die, never give an inch” energy of last year’s team. Who knows if it’ll amount to anything, maybe we still get run off the floor by Boston and all the larger questions loom. But it was an impressive road win against a team that has been measurably good for the bulk of the season.

Now that I’m a grown ass man it’s been a while since I’ve purchased a jersey, but after yesterday I feel deeply compelled to honor Jalen Brunson in some way. Might have to pull the trigger. Also, I am very, very, very happy we have KAT.

Brunson took 2 FTs yesterday, the Pistons have taken 15 more FTs this series, they got gifted a free play last game, there was a last 2min no call foul in the Pistons sole win (verified by the 2min report), and they’re allowed a challenge which their coach stupidly wasted.

On top of all that, THJr leans into Brunson. If he doesn’t do that, it still would’ve been a foul. It’s entirely possible that it’s their own damn fault for complaining about foul baiting that the refs didn’t call it.

They can complain all they want, but they’ve been given every opportunity to win this series.

they couldn’t challenge that last play since there was nothing called….so even if he kept the challenge…it was moot…as long as there was no call.

Also, it won’t get talked about much, but Schroder and THJr blew a wide open look at the basket at the end of the 3rd because they wanted to show off

EBW – I mentioned that yesterday and I agree. I couldn’t remember if it was at end of half or Q3 but that was a pretty big miss and let Knicks iff the hook. Given the final score that was very foolish

anyone have video of that thjr/schroder play that ebw mentioned i do not remember what he is talking about

Feel the same. Grit and grind to the max. Loved it.

We should have put them away in the first half.

Yeah, I meant more the talking heads. Pretty much everything has been drowned out except the last second foul

Bracing for the refocalypse on Tuesday with the way the narrative has been, never mind that the only reason THJ even gets the ball is because of a far more obvious foul by Harris on Hart under the rim when Cade’s shot missed.

The thing is we’ve already been brutalized this series so what are they gonna do? Brunson/Towns 0 FTA instead of 2 each?

The thing is we’ve already been brutalized this series so what are they gonna do? Brunson/Towns 0 FTA instead of 2 each?

If they call the game more tightly but it’s fair to both teams, I think that only benefits us because they can’t just maul us.

I don’t know. The detroit fans and social media might be up in arms but the league hasn’t said we messed up so maybe it won’t matter. They’ve let them get away with a lot, so I think we’re good.

There was a league mandate this year to stop the ticky-tacky foul calls, and the refs are trying, but it makes it that much harder to call it evenly for both sides.

My feeling is you win some, you lose some. Brunson was touched a lot more than TH2 throughout the game, but people will always focus on the last shot.

More importantly, I kinda wish we were demonstratively a lot better than the Pistons, but I also feel like they aren’t a great “matchup” for us with their athleticism but whatever… at the end of the day, it’s entertainment.

I said this a few threads ago but I think the Pistons are the “best” of the non top 3 teams in the East. Their record is not really any worse than The Pacers or Bucks and they got better as the season worse on. So I think we got the toughest match up of any of the top 4 teams.

And I think their physicality is a particularly good test for us. Not that we’re going to suddenly be battle tested and ready to take on Boston but, long term, this is a series that is helping us figure some things out and might carry over to next season, regardless of what happens in the next round.

If the whistle is tighter, it benefits the more talented team, which is us. So I hope they do call it more tightly…and fairly, of course. We’ll blow them out (as long as we realize what is happening and don’t try to match their physicality).

Looking at the NBA site, the Last Two Minute Reports for yesterday’s games have yet to be published. We know that the Hart foul will be in it, but not about any foul on Hart. Hopefully when it’s out, that will end the we waz robbed chatter.

This series doesn’t quite have the gravitas of the Sixers series last year, mostly because the stakes just felt much bigger for the more established Sixers; however, the games have been close and well fought and for that reason I wish they had called the foul at the end so that this series could grow in interest rather than diminish just like that.

for that reason I wish they had called the foul at the end so that this series could grow in interest rather than diminish just like that.

    That is crazy talk.

Indiana is definitely a much better team than Detroit but I’m not sure if they would be able to handle their physicality the way the Knicks have. Bucks except for the 3rd quarter of Game 3 have been an absolute joke vs Indiana. It’s a clear Top 4 in the East compared to the rest of the conference unlike the West.

I wish they had called the foul at the end so that this series could grow in interest rather than diminish just like that.

ummmm, no thank you donnie casual fan…

Indiana is definitely a much better team than Detroit

You know, I hadn’t realized Indiana had won 50 games, lol. How did that happen?

I’m wondering how much of a fight Indiana can put up against The Cavs?

If they call the next game tighter it’ll be really interesting. Because if they call it tightly but fairly, NY will get 40 foul shots to Detroit’s 20.
