    Back to basketball:
How about that pending Julius Randle extension?
Or the picture of Precious walking two lions by holding them by their tails?!?

“Knicks Eye Larry Nance Jr. as Backup for Mitchell Robinson”

I mean, he’s good enough as a player overall, but not as a backup to Mitch. He’s 6-foot-8! We already have an undersized backup in Precious (also 6-foot-8).

Anyone else know that Pete Nance (Larry’s brother) played 8 games for the Cleveland Cavaliers (one of their father’s main teams) this past season?

were you too poor to have a TV and gaming console growing up…heck, better yet – a gaming rig…

Haha. Poor and also too old, probably. I had Pong (for real) and also later a game called Frogger. I also had a little white handheld football game where you moved a blip through other blips. I’d say I missed the video game wave (or it passed me by).

No to Larry Nance Jr. I want to see if Precious can be even more precious.

These are just clickbait proposals with zero basis in reality. Nance would be OK as a back up 4/5 for 15 mpg or better as a 3rd string option, but how do you get his 11M on the roster? The same with Nurkic (the only NBA player with more shattered ankles than Mitch) and his 18 M.

but how do you get his 11M on the roster

Easy, you use the exception to sign whoever for $5 mil and bundle him with Precious. We are perfectly set up for such a move.

$18 mil would be more challenging, though.

Edit: I suspect the $11 mil move we’re planning on is Time Lord, though. Which would make a great story in the ECF vs the Celtics.

KBA, do you not have kids? I was right there with you on all those original consoles (how many patterns did I memorize in Frogger, Pac Mac, Pitfall….), but once I had kids I wanted to read what they were reading and play what they were playing. And since it outrages me to be beaten by eight-year-olds, I got pretty good at Fortnite etc. (Should note, I’m fine being beaten by my kids, but not by randos who dance after they’ve eliminated me. No way, booger365! I’m not having it!)

KBA, do you not have kids?

rama, yeah, I have a thirteen and eleven year old but I’m that annoying dad who discourages them from looking at screens (even as I type this on my own) and I make them read books or play music and sports instead — anything analog.

I’m prolly just adding to the hours of therapy they will need in the future (I know!). Nevertheless, they do play “Just Dance” and some online soccer game against friends, but I’m sure those are ridiculous in comparison. They also used minecraft and roblox (?) but I think they’ve aged out.

I’m sure there are healthy video games and players out there (like you and yours), but we never got into it. Consequently, I’m sure my kids will binge on them in college and flunk out hahaha.

Consequently, I’m sure my kids will binge on them in college and flunk out hahaha.

Ha, probably not. My son, now 19 and the reason I’m in Mongolia, has largely given them up after many many hours of Minecraft and Fortnite and Clash of Clans and Submersible and so on. Which is annoying, because I’m still playing a couple mobile games he got me into! We all have our addictions, I suppose. The good news is that these days you can typically sell your accounts, which I’m doing now. Turns out there’s always someone who wants a shortcut to the endgame….

In general I think your analog plan is great. They’ll thank you for it down the line. I just figured that videogames didn’t kill me – there was even a book about them being good for you a decade ago – so I didn’t worry about it with mine, so long as they weren’t into inappropriate stuff.

My son, now 19 and the reason I’m in Mongolia

Sounds like you’re crushing the dad decathlon. Mongolia sounds triumphantly life-enriching and analog. As Lemon says, “I want to go to there.” Cheers.

From the Big Knick Energy feed:

The New York Knicks are reportedly exploring options to integrate Ryan Arcidiacono into their roster ahead of the new season.

Arcidiacono, a former Villanova standout, previously played with the Knicks and has been linked to a potential return to the team.

The Knicks are said to be considering various strategies to bring him back into the fold.

Doesn’t seem to make sense unless we’re going to give him the full taxpayer exception, with the understanding that he’ll get traded again at midseason.

I don’t think the Knicks would want to do that lateral a move and make Nance the primary back up with his history of never playing more than 67 games in 9 seasons. Precious is 7 years younger and more likely to improve this season over last season.

I had Atari Pong as a kid, too. It was the “big” Chanukah gift that year. I’m guessing around 1978.

I think video games are mostly ridiculous, and *absolutely* ridiculous whenever anyone over the age of 14 or 15 plays them. My now-32-year-old son played them a bit, but never got crazy with them.

Doesn’t seem to make sense unless we’re going to give him the full taxpayer exception, with the understanding that he’ll get traded again at midseason.

You can’t make Optimus Maximus without the 5th Nova Knick, silly.

Look, I want Archie back for the vibes, too, ess-dog. But we have one roster spot left, and we very sure seem to need to use the full TPMLE to fill it, so we can then bundle that contract with Precious’ before the deadline. If we could sign Archie to a two-way? Or if we didn’t have Sims or Payne under contract? Sure.

I think video games are mostly ridiculous, and *absolutely* ridiculous whenever anyone over the age of 14 or 15 plays them.

I’m shocked, shocked to hear you are against videogames! Fortunately, one great thing about aging is that I no longer care when some random asshole on the Internet judges me.

Alan, when it says “various strategies,” that implies “not as a player.” I think ess-dog is right.

Bob, your point was that there was no way to make that trade. My point is that there is and the Knicks are well-positioned to do it. That’s completely independent from whether it’s a good move (no), and from whether they will (no).

We have that “iPad coach” slot open… would be perfect for Archie.

Haha. I’m guessing Archie would happily take that job. And I agree that there is likely a wink-understanding for our benefit behind the contract rumor.

And — to be clear — I don’t find video games “ridiculous” or intrinsically dangerous in any way. On the contrary, if someone (at any age) finds joy in them or in anything that does not harm another person, I respect that. Life’s too short to think otherwise IMO.

Plus, I suspect playing a game like Fortnight at age thirteen might be more proactive than me listening to “London Calling” (on my walkman!) on repeat for hours on end until I fell asleep 😉

Rather, my bad-dad-reasoning for our kids is that it’s likely harder to ingrain the habits of sport, instrument, and reading than the habit of gaming, so I make them do all that analog stuff first (while I control them haha). In the future, they can do whatever they want.

Maybe there’s consolidation talks ongoing and he’s the first name on the replacement call sheet. I doubt any trade talks are serious.

More likely they plan on giving him an Exhibit 10, cutting him, and signing him post-deadline.

My six year old regularly does mind blowing shit on Minecraft. He’s incredibly creative with it. And it’s not impeding him in any way as he has many other interests. Yesterday he asked me if I wanted to start a band with him in which we play David Bowie songs. First rehearsal went great. He’s hitting me with David Bowie factoids right now as I’m sitting here typing this.

I wish I had more time for video games honestly. I have a PS5 that rarely gets fired up. I will probably pick up NBA2K25 when that comes out and I fiddle around with Baldur’s Gate 3 once in a while.

I fucking loved Leisure Suit Larry. Pattern recognition games had to really deliver on the game design as once you caught the vibe they ceased to be challenging. Good thing to learn as pattern recognition can get you past most of the Chuds out there. Kid Icarus is an all time great. I have recently become quite good with Mario Kart as there is a thing called a Gaymer. They like to canoodle, doodle and play video games in jock straps. I am not one… but on second thought I guess I am one. I have a friend from high school with whom I used to play NBA live and mortal kombat and soul caliber. We’d order pizza and wings and soda and pregame the 90s Knicks. I’d then race home right before the game because we knew then that us being in the same room for the game was bad luck. We’ve gotten past that. We text during games now. The Brunson effect. My favorite is when he posts here. Gonna see him tonight for dessert after my dad makes an all important roast leg of lamb gesture for dinner. Gonna plot how to finish this crazy misadventure and blight we summoned into the world when we were children. More on that later.

Video games are amazing. No idea why anyone should have that take. It’s more interactive than TV, may help stave off Alzheimer’s, and has several other mental benefits.

My grandmother introduced them to me.

Also my buddy’s daughter makes a Roblox living as a game therapist/life coach. She has clients that work with her daily. She sees herself as a broadway star when the time comes. Certainly has the kiddie chops. He’s a red Sox statsy blogger. Real Spaceman Eephus kinda good guy.

    EB, what game? That’s cool.

Real Spaceman Eephus kinda good guy.

Reminded me of our Ephus, who I hope is alive and well and enjoying this genuinely good time to be a Knicks fan.

TV and video games are fine. Social media is the real problem (aka peer pressure on steroids). Oddly, my teens aren’t that into it. Maybe it will phase out now that it has fully morphed into advertising.

“Puppet Chud” should be the name of your next band or song. 🙂

Please give the roster spot to someone who at least *might* actually play in some spots. That player is not Archie.

You’d have to ask Clarence Beeks what he means by it. He instituted the use of the term here last night, and I simply adopted it as something to use when addressing him so that he’d know that it was responding to a comment or question of his (e.g., what we dip our tortilla chips into—I have no idea why he asked that, by the way). I guess maybe it’s a term of endearment for him, as he also used “sweetums” or some such nonsense. <shrug> 🙂 LOL

Well I started it. I considered Morlock. But chud just kinda captures the personality better.

I grew up playing video games and reading. Those were my only hobbies at an early age. I think video games have been great for me overall–they help me turn my brain off from academic work but aren’t passive brainrot like YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok. My brain needs light work to slacken, not no work at all. These days, I play long RPGs, Soulslike games, fighting games like Street Fighter and Smash Bros., and roguelike games. Basically, anything challenging.

As part of the first generation that really grew up with constant screen time (I’m 31 and my family had game consoles and a desktop from when I was a toddler), I don’t think it really hurt my attention span at all, nor my friends’ attention spans. I’m not a psychologist, but I think there has been a real change here as “passive” media consumption–scrolling, watching videos, etc.–has become more and more omnipresent. This, coupled with the short time horizons of modern digital media, seems to effect real psychological differences in users compared to “active” media consumption like reading and playing video games.

I wouldn’t mind bringing in Nance to the fold–he’s a better defender than his height indicates and gives us a different look compared to Precious at the 5, since he’s a legit passer for the position. That said, I imagine we’re not really looking to trade for a 60 game per season undersized center.

I was just kidding about the “too poor to have a video game console” stuff, reference growing up…

truth is – I’m intrigued by the folks whom have a blast, and are so in to board and card games…

Minecraft is simply a game apart…I remember one of the kids while in 3rd grade or so would get assignments using Minecraft as a teaching tool…

I love that Minecraft music…I’ve never really played the game myself, I kind of do like watching it though…

during the pandemic the video game stuff definitely provided a way for the boys to stay connected with their friends…

I also see video gaming as a form of problem solving, so, let the kids figure stuff out…

If you ever liked even just one sentence I’ve written on this blog, you have to thank videogames for that. They were 85% of my english training (10% being music and 5% being Upper Deck NBA trading cards).

Pizza, wings, soda, and NBA live (and later 2k)…those were the days!

Video games were actually one of my gateways into sports. They helped me understand the rules and see the method behind what initially appeared as total chaos. Mostly drifted away from gaming after college, but still enjoy a great “pick up and go” game like Mario Kart or Smash Bros.

We bought a Switch for my kids, but they’re much more interested in ipad games and apps. Wiiiiiide range of quality there, but one thing they all seem to have in common: an insufferable amount of ads between nearly every screen! I don’t know how they tolerate it–though now that I type this out, I guess it kinda brings balance to the force, since they never have to sit through ads during movies, tv, music, and all their other on-demand options.

Thanks for clarifying for Donnie Walsh, chud! Hope you’re having a great day. 🙂

Oh, and a digression towards basketball: I have a scalding hot take. I think it’s better to have a completely disposable 14th and 15th man on the roster than someone clearly talented enough to play regular minutes relegated to a break-in-case-of-emergency role. Thoughts?

I mean, in a best case scenario, the disposable guy turns out to have that talent if/when the time comes that they are needed (think Linsanity), but I feel like situations where a known talent is “rotting” on the bench brings more problems than it solves.

I gamed a good amount in my youth. I hammered The Show/Madden/2K of course, but will also die on the hill of the original Fable being the best RPG ever made.

Much less time nowadays, maybe once a week. I usually prefer to read when I have free time, which is as sure a sign of aging as it gets. I only have a Switch, and to be honest the new Zelda games didn’t do much for me. I am replaying KOTOR though and despite being old enough to drink at this point it still hits.

All this to say, saying it’s “ridiculous” for an adult to engage in a wholly harmless hobby that brings them joy and/or stress-relief, provided it doesn’t negatively impact their obligations, is, well, ridiculous. Frankly it’s one of the most bizarre opinions I’ve ever seen expressed here.

That’s certainly an interesting take, Mortimer. I think that it may be different for us than it is for most (all?) other teams, as we happen to have a coach who (at least historically) will not play those 14th and 15th slots no matter what.

And to the other guy: You wouldn’t like any opinions I expressed here simply because I am the one making them. That is even more ridiculous than playing video games as an adult. 🙂

Mortimer, I generally agree that that spot is best used on a cheerleader type, like Theo Pinson for “We Here” team(*). And if said type happens to be BFFs with four of our top six or seven players, so much the better.

(*) One of the KFS guys mentioned on a recent podcast that Thibs haaaaated Pinson, despite whatever immaculate locker room vibes were created by his presence. I hadn’t heard that before.

In this one case, it’s really all about the cap mechanics, and the assumption that we are going to make an in-season trade for a better backup center than Precious. If that’s happening, we almost certainly need a 15th man who will be paid more than Archie deserves to be paid. Plus at some point, Archie may be sick of having to relocate in the middle of every season and prefer to go somewhere where he can warm the bench and call out illegal defenses for a whole uninterrupted year.

I was just kidding about the “too poor to have a video game console” stuff, reference growing up…

Geo! No offense taken (at all). Was just being playful back (or so I thought).

And — I’ve loved every one of Farfa’s sentences, so I def thank video games!

My only skepticism about screens comes from my feeling (not data) that (some) people seem increasingly frustrated that our shared material world does not behave as their individual digital ones do. For example, there is no quick re-set for spilling milk, or for a canceled flight, or for, yes, death (!), so we still gotta learn hard lessons on how to deal … together.

No matter. Obviously games are just like TV, movies, rock and roll, and all the other past ills of society, which were likewise mocked by the self proclaimed “doers” of previous generations — “Get your nose out of that book, young lady!” — all to no avail.

The gaming economy has long ago eclipsed our beloved movie and music industries combined. It’s not going anywhere. I just hope the golden rule persists as for all things: play away; just be mindful of others. My kids will find out what happens next.

My only skepticism about screens comes from my feeling (not data) that (some) people seem increasingly frustrated that our shared material world does not behave as their individual digital ones do.

Oh, I think the amount of time the Kids These Days spend looking at screens is extremely detrimental and there actually is a lot of data to that effect. Funnily enough, I think we’re finding out that gaming, within reasonable boundaries, is actually one of the healthier, pro-social ways for kids to interact on the internet. Much, much better than, say, Instagram.

Mortimer, I think it’s been a bit since actually having a 14th or 15th roster spot with competitive talent matters. We could have used some real talent on the end of the bench last year. I suspect we will need that depth this year. Maybe not.

You’re welcome, Doo! It’s no fun watching you dance in complete ignorance.

I was actually held up at gunpoint in the middle of Mongolia once. Odd incident with no negative consequences thankfully.

I have never played any modern video game but whenever I see a trailer for a cool one I know deep down that I could easily disappear for a few weeks. Very addictive personality. Online backgammon allows me to fill that void without impacting family time too much.

I have hit a stage where I kind of trust Leon to do something smart and have a plan here. I’d actually love to know what scenario analysis they have planned for the backup center spot. I would expect it involves another Precious type journeyman and potentially a midseason trade.

We will see but our days of doing dumb shit likesigning Joakkm Noah and Courtney Hill are at least long past.

Fable is up there for sure. Same with KOTOR. I submit Ultima and original Final Fantasy campaigns.

Thanks, chud. But it’s “Doogie,” and you already knew that! LOL

Funnily enough, I think we’re finding out that gaming, within reasonable boundaries, is actually one of the healthier, pro-social ways for kids to interact on the internet.

Sure. I get it. Plus gaming creates social capital in real life peer groups where my kids sometimes can’t chat up the latest update in the same way I used to blab on (and on) about the latest record I bought.

But it’s a balance. My kids def know about Clyde, so …

Trigger alert? Huh? You mean because you misspelled Joakim? I don’t think that’s what you mean, but I cannot discern what is being referenced.

I’m assuming that “werk” is German, chud. But I don’t know that for a fact—it’s just a guess. 🙂

during the pandemic the video game stuff definitely provided a way for the boys to stay connected with their friends…

100% Geo. It was how I knew my son wasn’t succumbing to depression. They’d get on and play together and I could hear him laughing from a floor away. They also started watching movies on Discord together, which, questionable legality, but whatever gets you through….

Owen, I agree with every part of your post (do not play video games if you have an addictive personality), but need to know what you were doing in Mongolia and how you got held up! It’s seemed very safe to me, but maybe there’s more I need to know.

Thanks for clarifying for Donnie Walsh

He clarified that he was, in fact, calling you a carnivorous humanoid underground dweller. I’m not sure what you were trying to call him, though, as clearly you can’t both be humanoids.

I was actually held up at gunpoint in the middle of Mongolia once. Odd incident with no negative consequences thankfully.

    whoa, that sounds pretty wild…

“He clarified that he was, in fact, calling you a carnivorous humanoid underground dweller. I’m not sure what you were trying to call him, though, as clearly you can’t both be humanoids.”

I’m definitely a human. I am unsure as to what the chud is, but he’s OK with me regardless.

I love that geo spelled “whoa” correctly, instead of as “woah” as so many idiots do these days. It’s the same people who can’t even spell “oops” correctly, and somehow think it’s “opps.” Probably also the same people who write “I could of done that differently.” 🙂

I’m confused, what is Chanukah? According to both the AP and Chicago style guides there is a gift-giving holiday called Hanukkah. Perhaps he meant that? I really can’t tell as I lack the ability to make inferences or use the Google. Someone please help me understand!

Also, in what way is an Atari “big”. In my recollection they’re actually quite small in their physical dimensions.

    EB, what game? That’s cool.

I don’t even really remember. It was a side scroller, either Mario or Sonic. I want to say Sonic because I remember her having a Sega Genesis, but it broke before it could solidify into my longterm memory.

We later bought my grandma a PS1 but struggled to deal with the 3D world in Tomb Raider and didn’t use it that much. Instead, she played bridge on her computer most of the time.

There were a couple other PC games like Ski Free, Chip’s Challenge, and the Rat game where you need to move blocks to get cheese and avoid the cat. I can’t say whether she played them much or if it was just me and my cousin.

One thing I absolutely remember is taking turns on Tetris (PC version) to see who could get the highest score. She also beat everyone in gin rummy through her narcoleptic fits, falling asleep every other turn. She would fall asleep for 30min, then wake up just to declare gin before taking another half hour doze. It’s like a cartoon scene.

Since Hebrew uses a different character system, there are often multiple ways to spell Hebrew words using English characters. I used “Chanukah,” but “Hanukkah” is just as acceptable as a spelling for the Jewish holiday. But you already knew that.

Atari was big probably because 1) I was a kid, so things seemed bigger when I was smaller; 2) it was “big” in terms of relative cost to my family; and 3) the console wasn’t really that small, plus the fact that it was played on the television set made it seem bigger.

in this I think we can agree doogie – people are all just the worst 🙂

still staying at overhiever mom’s house…she’s 80 something, but like every day there is this crazy to do list that always seems to involve leaving the house to somewhere…

it’s crazy, like my oldest son she does this constant stream of consciousness dialogue…

it’s like torture when folks do that to me…very disorienting…

here’s a question for all or no one:

the more you open yourself to others – does that mean you have less of you for yourself?

cuz, it kind of feels that way…

Begley says Jacob Toppin just signed a two-way contract.

So we still have a Toppin at MSG!

the more you open yourself to others – does that mean you have less of you for yourself?

I hear this, geo. I do like to be around others, but I def need as much or more time to re-charge alone. True solitude is a luxury to be savored whenever possible, IMO.

Rama, Mongolia is definitely not ‘safe.’ There’s an entire homeless subculture living in the heat ducts under the city, who discovered that stupid careless foreigners were easy prey just before I left, hence my strangle-mugging by five guys late one night (got my wedding ring and my beat-up sneakers, the latter of which I thought was just rude). Had to walk bloodied and in my socks from hotel to hotel, asking to be put up and I’d pay them tomorrow. Not a one took me up, which I also thought was rude; finally lied to a cabbie who took me to an acquaintance’s apt, and she kindly woke up, paid the cabbie, and gave me her couch for the rest of the night. Apparently I was just one in an assortment of similar mishaps.

Folks aren’t great holding their liquor; I had to barricade myself and my team in a store way out in the countryside while a large, angry fellow tried to batter the place down to get in to get us. Luckily a policeman finally showed up and beat him half to death. Some evenings my entertainment was to sit on my tiny deck and watch drunks beat each other badly; often they’d then walk away together.

I love Mongolia, and Mongolians. Amazingly nice, generous folk. But you’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto.

Bob, your point was that there was no way to make that trade.

My point was the article was clickbait, because it wasn’t realistic (IMO). You are correct, I didn’t think there was an easy way to get him on the roster, because I thought the idea of the trade was to strengthen the reserve 5 position. I didn’t consider trading Precious (who I don’t think a 31 yr old Larry Nance is an upgrade over to include another asset) in that trade. But you are certainly correct, that trade is doable, but I still think it is clickbait as it hasn’t been done and the front office seemed to be calculating every possible permutation of trading Precious exactly for that purpose before signing him.

I like Jacob, if he can refine his shot and lock in a bit more on defense he could be a solid rotation player. Maybe an unspectacular but cromulent and cheap Hart replacement should we ever move him. It’s pretty much what you get out of 2-way spots.

“the more you open yourself to others – does that mean you have less of you for yourself?”

Geo, the best way I’ve heard it described is that extroverts gain energy from being around people, while introverts lose energy. So as with KBA, one often has to get away to recharge. That’s just how some of us are built, it’s not a bad thing or a good thing, and you can LIKE being around people, you just can’t do it for that long. (I spent some time recently with a guy running for a pretty high office, really nice, easy-going fellow, but oh my god I’d kill myself if I had his schedule of non-stop socializing. Clearly he somehow fed on it, but for me it’d be like a deflating balloon — I’d probably start making the same high, whiny sound, too…).

You might have written that too soon. Clarence Beeks hasn’t shared any of his possibly depraved sexual or flatulatory exploits of the day yet. It’s early yet.

Damn Raven, you have led what appears to be quite a perapatetic life. Though it’s premature, no need for a bucket list other than going to an ECF with Max and Farfa.

just told ma your story raven…only real reaction – why mongolia…

you can get mugged anywhere in the world, why in a place with no trees…

ma would prefer being mugged in Paris, it seems…

True solitude is a luxury to be savored whenever possible, IMO.

I “breathe” and count a lot these days to ride out tough spots…

years of therapy = strap yourself in for the ride, and make the best of it…while using your cognitive/behavioral tools of course…

Regarding travel, we’ve settled on 4 nights in Mallorca followed by 5 in Barcelona in mid-September. Can’t wait! Ephus, if you happen to be in the neighborhood…

Not too much to it. I was fishing on a river and some guys thought we were poaching. They confiscated all our equipment at gunpoint.we got it all back the next day.

Jonathan Rauch wrote the original introvert piece to go viral. “Caring for your introvert.”

I always recommend it when the topic arises although I often think the introvert/extrovert binary doesn’t work very well as it’s used in popular culture.

Put another way, you have to define it narrowly for it to be worth something.

Nowhere in there did I mention your sexual preferences; nor do I care one iota about what they are. If you were hetero and were sharing any possibly depraved (or even not depraved) sexual or flatulatory exploits I would have written the *exact* same thing.

There are annoying and unannoying people who are homosexual, just as there are annoying and unannoying people who are heterosexual. I was speaking only to your annoyingness in sharing some of the very crass things that you feel as if you have to let us all know. I don’t like when Jowles shares, either.

    From Begley’s latest mailbag:

Given the way Mathias Lessort has played in Olympics for France & NYK owning his draft rights, any reason he isn’t looked at for a roster spot given need at center? – @original_ARI
It’s a great question. Lessort played well during the Olympics. We noted last week that the Knicks inquired about Lessort’s interest in signing with the team earlier in the offseason. The team and player could not find common ground. Lessort, presumably, would need to be bought out of his current contract with Panathinaikos. He is under contract with the club for 2024-25.

Good stuff in there as well about Brunson and Julius’ rehab and recovery timelines: https://sny.tv/articles/knicks-mailbag-aug-14-24

    Thx, Alan. Oof. Mitch.

As of earlier this week, Robinson had not yet been cleared for high-intensity weight-bearing activities during his rehab, per people familiar with the matter. So Robinson has to clear several hurdles before he gets clearance to fully participate in training camp.

Seems we *do* have reason to be worried about Mitch, those videos of him “moving like a guard” notwithstanding. Count me among the unsurprised.

Great thread today… video games… and also Mongolia, and David Bowie cover bands! 🙂
Anyone started on the ZX Spectrum, or is it an european thing?
Someone mentioned Street Fighter, and i love the original version, i used to play it on an arcade. We went there to play billiards, but they had the arcade, just this one, and whenever i was there i played it. Probably once or twice a week. This was in the 80s when i was in high school.
Do any of you played Unreal? The first one that was a story mode, and not a multiplayer arena like in Unreal Tournament.
KBA, you won’t believe what my son bought me for this year’s father’s day! He was 17 at the time, now 18, and it was the first time he bought me a gift (the previous years, it was a gift bought by Lady Cyber) so he put a lot of thinking into it and bought me… the vinyl version of LONDON CALLING! 🙂 It’s amazing when you come to the conclusion that your son knows you a lot better than you thought was possible. Best gift ever.

I definitely still have the vinyl version of London Calling, purchased of course in 1980. That was a few years after receiving Atari Pong for Chanukah. Congratulations on having a great son who bought you an outstanding gift.

As despondent as I am about the state of the Yankees, I still want to see what our two behemoths can do in October.

First they have to get through the remainder of August and all of September intact.

Yikes, Raven! Sorry you went through that. I’ve had my NYC antennae up and haven’t sensed danger at any point, but I’ll remain vigilant. I only take one credit card with me when I go out to minimize damage if something happens, but I kind of like my current sneakers….

In the Begley mailbag, he mentions that Thibs’ new contract is probably a little more tha $10M a year, and is a reasonable non-stingy market price for a coach now. Given that MSG just reported $100M in extra revenue due to the Knicks and Rangers both getting deep into the playoffs, this seems like a good deal for the Knicks.
