2026 NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals: Knicks vs. Cavaliers Game 2 – Time To Step on the Neck and Apply Pressure

The Cavs just epically blew a chance to take a 1-0 lead as a major underdog on the road in the Eastern Conference. It’s the sort of loss that almost always leads to a collapse by the team that chokes. For instance, after Game 1 of the Spurs/Thunder, no one was, like, “Oh, the Thunder have no chance now after a loss like that!” because it was just a normal hard-fought game. Losses where you get your soul sucked out of your body, devoured, and shit out in front of you, on the other hand, those are the losses that leave a shit-stain mark on your whole BEING, and THOSE are the games where you say, “Oh, okay, this is over.”

I say this not as a Knicks fan, I say this as a basketball fan. As a totally objective basketball fan, if this was Team X playing Team Y, and Team Y blew a 22-point lead on the road with eight minutes to go, I would say, “Well, I guess Team Y is fucked, then.”

HOWEVER, while that is the TYPICAL reaction for series like this, that is, as they say, why you play the games, so the Knicks still need to step on the Cavs’ neck, and apply pressure, and put the Cavs into a fetal position. The Knicks can win this series losing Game 2. The Cavs can THEORETICALLY win this series losing Game 2, but, well, come the fuck on, the Knicks aren’t the shitty Pistons. If the Cavs fall behind 2-0 in this series, they’re almost assuredly going to be on vacation in a week.

So, long story short, just fucking beat them in this game and make them go into the fetal position and then you will soon be in the fucking NBA GODDAMN FINALS where, no matter who, you’ll be playing a team dealing with major injuries, making things ripe for a title.

Let’s go, Knicks!!

7 wins to go!

Hoping to see a spry OG and less rust. CLE gonna come out hard so no fucking around pls. LFGK

1

My sons awesome high school play is nominated for several local
Theater awards, and the ceremony starts in five minutes. Hoping to come out of airplane mode in a few hours to a score that makes me happy. (And also that my son’s play wins an award or three.)

Let’s hope it will, but most likely it is not going to be easy. They scouted us well and disrupted our game on Tuesday, a game which we would have lost if not for the inexplicable brain stalling of their coach, and they will most likely do the same tonight. Don’t expect them to allow Brunson to BBQ Harden time after time or KAT to easily distribute, and so on. However: we are the better team, we dusted off the rust, and we have Mr. Clutch on our side. Let’s go!!!!!

Dammit, start. Mitch for Hart already

I mean, it just seems so obvious that their bigs are killing us

THEY KEEP GETTING OFFENSIVE BOARDS BECAUSE WE CAN’T MATCH (MITCH) THEIR BIGS

Sub josh hart, enough! The big is not guarding him. Sitting in the paint stopping drives while watching hart shoot bricks

This is the thing. The Knicks are taking the shots the Cavs want them to take. It makes no sense.

So hard to tell if KAT should be getting more calls. It’s weird

At least the layups went doen

On what distant planet on a different reality was that not a foul?

Allen is actually playing great D on those KAT drives. Refs are calling it right.

Towns makes a lot of dumb fouls but he has a terrible whistle his way.

Allen is actually playing great D on those KAT drives. Refs are calling it right.

Harden fouled him on that first drive, I agree that Allen didn’t.

Hack-a-Mitch brings bad karma to the Cavs… they missed everything after that!

I want the Evan Mobley everyone was making fun of during the Pistons series

1

Hart can’t make a 3 and Mitch can’t get a rebound or make a free throw.

Why can’t Mitch shoot with a little bit of an arc to his shot? Don’t get the line drives.

I’m more worried about Mitch forgetting how to defend or grab rebounds than his inability to hit a FT.

Too early to judge. We started off sleepy on defense, very lackadaisical, improved a bit after the timeout, but still not great. Offense will find its way at some point. Defense is the issue right now. They have 7 (!) offensive rebounds already. We got 0.

I’m not happy with the uniforms. It used to the home team (yge good guys) always wore white. I don’t like the Cavs being in white today.

2

We started off sleepy on defense, very lackadaisical

We weren’t lackadaisical – Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley are very tall, and one of them was always at the hoop because we had Hart instead of Mitch in. They got four or five offensive rebounds because KAT had to cover someone, and there would be two Knicks and Allen, and guess who got the rebound?

Sure, I agree, but that’s only part of it. They got open lanes to the basket time after time, and open threes as well.

I mean Cavs are getting wide open 3s on every possession right now but thankfully they’re not hitting all of them.

I mean Cavs are getting wide open 3s on every possession.

Yeah, the quality of their shots is much superior to the Knicks’.

Don’t like Clarkson instead of Deuce here.

I really haven’t liked Brown’s rotations in this series at all

Doesn’t look like quality shots now, our defense is waking up, just like me 😀

They can’t lose the rebounding battle. Mitch needs to get his act together.

Edit: thanks Mitch.

Jaylon Tyson, who sounds like a made up nba2k player, has more offensive rebounds in 1 possession than our entire team

This seems suboptimal

Between neutralizing KAT as a hub and trapping Brunson aggressively, they’ve made us uncomfortable offensively in both games. A concerning amount of our points come from Brunson and Mikal ISOs.

Little bit too much foul hunting there from Cap.

And yeah these lineups are head scratch inducing

I know we’re horrible and everything stinks, but Brunson has 2 points and we’re up by 5.

1

If I were coming up with the strategy for this game, I would hope that Josh Hart had the most shots by halftime…and he does

1

I know we’re horrible and everything stinks, but Brunson has 2 points and we’re up by 5.

Knicks are shooting 54%, Cavs are shooting 34%, and it’s a 5 point game (with free throws coming for the Cavs).

Our strategy seems to be… only the 4th quarter counts. Someone has to tell them it’s not the regular season anymore… but it’s the ECF and it’s still working, so what do i know? 😛

1

Offensive rebounding is still a big difference but we stopped the bleeding with Mitch around the rim in this second quarter. Cavs are shooting is very poor and this is why we are in front.

You’d think after the success of the Brunson-Mikal-Shamet-OG-KAT lineup, we would have seen at least one (1) minute of it this half.

1

I mean we’re up 4 at halftime so I guess we should be happier than we are?

Gotta give the five out lineup a look. They’ll keep daring Hart to shoot but if it’s Shamet or Deuce out there it’ll start scrambling the Cavs’ defense.

Hart leads the Knicks with 12 FGAs.

Nobody else has more than 7.

We are playing the game that the Cavs want us to play. This makes no strategic sense whatsoever.

Deuce and Shamet combined for fewer minutes than Hart.

There was a play when Brunson was trying to get to the rim, and Allen was under the rim, while guarding Hart, who was above the 3 point line.

If I was a Cavs fan I’d be pretty demoralized right now. Our best player has been horrible, they’re grabbing a ton of offensive boards, Mobley has been excellent, Harden is playing well, and they’re still losing by 4

The lineups are dumb. We need more 5 out. Every lineup has had Mitch or Hart in it, and surprise surprise our 3 pt shooting is shit. We are lucky hart finally made a couple wide open toward the end of the half

We are lucky hart finally made a couple wide open toward the end of the half

That might mean that Brown will think his strategy is working.

Brown saving the adjustment. Just farted at the urinal bank in delta lounge.

1

either we’ve seriously regressed from the first two rounds or the cavs are playing well…

hate admitting the cavs are playing well…

We may be up but our process is very bad and it again makes me think Mike Brown is Woodson.

Why the fuck can’t we play 5 out ever?

Why do we just concede that we’ll make our offense depend on Hart hitting threes?

Are we trying to pay Atkinson back for letting us iso on Harden all night in Tuesday or something?

1

We scored 53 points. Not great, but acceptable. Five out is not the solution when when your problem is around the rim. We improved in q2. Cleveland scored only 22 points. Mitch played a big role. KAT needs to assert himself in the paint defensively.

It’s a little worrying that the five out lineup seems to be Brown’s “break glass in case of emergency” lineup.

fascinating fact: there are “smart” underwear that can measure the daily amount of flatulence from a person…

the whole digestive system process makes it enormously difficult for me to be overly impressed by any human being…

as magnificent, stately and or statueque as any person may be – they still gotta process the stuff they put in their face…

that alone should keep all humans humble…

3

Josh Hart has 12 shots and every other starter has 6. That’s a big win for Cleveland.

(EDIT: towns has 7, and Marechal already said this)

3

Brown saving the adjustment.

What if they have an adjustment to the adjustment?

Why do we just concede that we’ll make our offense depend on Hart hitting threes?

Josh Hart has 12 shots and every other starter has 6. That’s a big win for Cleveland.

seems so incredibly obvious, and yet…

Rick Brunson’s job is to have our adjustment to their adjustment to our adjustment

When you find something that is working, you keep doing it. You don’t go back to the thing that wasn’t working. I don’t get it.

Even old school people will say that teams have to impose their way. The Knicks are playing the way the Cavs are dictating. How is that sensible?

2

Last year I think Hart told Thibs to start Mitch, maybe he’ll do it again

I mean Hart has 1 rebound. We are literally playing him in the Brunson role it’s insane

I’ll stop speaking about Hart, because otherwise I have to complain every possession. The grenade that Brunson just had to shoot because he wouldn’t.

What’s crazy to me is how Dean Wade doesn’t even look to get position in the paint with Brunson guarding him. And Atkinson hasn’t even tried to call a play to test the defense in that position. This will ultimately be why we win the season. Brown is just a better coach this series so far..and Brown hasn’t been great by any stretch

Maybe we can stop with the 5 out and Brown incompetence complaints for a while?

I’m pretty sure the Knicks would be thrilled if the Cavs tried to post up Wade on Brunson.

Moving the ball with real intention seems to break the Cavs’ defense fairly easily. That, and Jalen Brunson cooking fools.

1

Keep staying with Mitchell defensively when he gets into the paint. If he’s not getting his normal elevation on those paint jumpers then he becomes easier to contest 1on1.

They’re gonna have a real hard time if Hart keeps hittinf his 3s

The thing about ignoring Hart on the perimeter is it doesn’t really work if Hart doesn’t want it to work

Not sure what OG was doing there, he brought Allen right to KAT

That was a smart block by Allen. Had to know Strus was gonna get cooked by KAT down low.

Lmao I must admit the timing of my complaints haa been impeccable this series

We are taking the Cavs heart right now. You know what that means in these playoffs once we snatch hearts in a game…

1

hey poindexter, luvin your avatar sir…

Thank you sir

You should have seen how wide my eyes got when I saw it LOL. The Warriors is on my all time top 10 list

1

hey poindexter, luvin your avatar sir…

Yeah, 100%. And Rama’s too. 🙂

Edit: We’re like brothers, we think the same way, Geo. 😉

1

My sons play won a BUNCH of awards, and I came out to this score. Fuck yeah.

8

My sons play won a BUNCH of awards, and I came out to this score. Fuck yeah.

Congrats!!

Four undersized guards and KAT? That’s a thing, I guess…

Excellent quarter. Survived the Mitchell flurry. Need to guard him better to start the 4th.

Knicks need to make the Finals and play deep into June cause the 2 NY baseball teams are pretty much garbage right now.

Five boroughs, are you reeeaaaady?? 🙂

Edit: And the world too! Portugal is ready!! 😀

Refs are letting the Cavs do whatever they want (look at Schroeder on Brunson), but called 5 fouls on the Knicks in 2 minutes, sending everyone to the line in dubious ways.

1

Now it seems like you gotta roll with the starters, because they’re at least playing good team defense. The bench guys haven’t been very good.

1

You don’t wait five minutes to take a timeout when you are playing that bad.

1

and, the winner is:

Mike Brown is a few stars short of a galaxy brain

still laughing at that, like even a minute or two later…

well done sir…

Cavs fans have to be mental watching these free throw misses

Thank fucking god Mikal

All forgiven

1

feel a little guilty i was a 1,000% okay with trading mikal this off-season…

no thanks on any deals now…way to go mikal…

25-10 FT disparity when the Knicks attacked the rim more often than the Cavs stands out.

This should be OG’s music… the “hey baby” is perfect for “OG Anunoby”… then “make a dunk” maybe. 😀

Mikal has really been great most of the playoffs. Clearly dude has another gear and is just coasting during the year. Very solid on both ends.

And while this isn’t the best Brunson game, he still has 13 assists against 2 TOs. Plus they’re so focused on his penetration, that’s why we keep getting shots.

How can they not give the Knicks a freaking call.

Like, they need to hit Brunson three times for a call to be made.

Brown deserves a lot of credit for playing ISM all 42 mins of this game so far.

Kudos to Josh and the starting lineup. I didn’t think they had this in them.

back in the day used to watch clippers games…

they had this old announcer named ralph lawler…

came up with this thing called Lawler’s Law:

first team to one hundred wins

If it wasn’t for the FT line Knicks would be up almost 30, Cavs offense aside from a few stretches here and there can’t score on the Knicks.

He’s here, he’s there,
He’s every fucking where!
JOSH HART! JOSH HART!

1

I’ve never actually watched a great team before… I think this might just be what they do… that is, they kick the shit out of teams, then come out a little rusty in the next series because of all the time off, but still manage to go up to 2-0 at home without looking as great as they did previously….

and then they kick it back into high gear after they shake off the rust, finish off another sweep, rinse and repeat.

I expect game 3 to be our best of the series. Cleveland’s fucked.

3

What a choke job.

the no timeout and doubling brunson at the end of the first game was atrocious…coaching malpractice…

they still could have won if not for a couple of bounces going our way…

tonight a big part of their defensive strategy was to let josh shoot – and josh heart made them pay…

we are the better, more rested team in this series…season/playoff numbers show that…

We get really sloppy when we have big leads, it won’t matter, but we should fix it

1. Mikal just coasts until the playoffs.

2. OG looks pretty close to 100%

3. Josh Hart lmao

4. Rough night for Deuce.

5. We have to clean up some things defensively against their bigs

6. Brunson played the right way against the tougher D

That will do it.

We are 2 wins away from the finals. I can’t believe my eyes.

1

For as bad as the 1st half looked despite the halftime lead Knicks 2nd half performance was incredible.

kenny atkinson looks like a corpse

That’s funny…I think of that George Carlin line when i see him…I forget what album it was but it was…”look at Nixon (Richard)…he looks like he hasn’t taken a shit in a year”

Hey Geo, CDiggy’s pic takes the prize, it’s his kid. Right, CDiggy? 🙂

Last time Knicks were up 2-0 in the East Finals and blew it was in 1993, thankfully Cavs don’t have MJ.

Imagine scoring 38 points shredding your opponent in a historic comeback, and then knowing to step back and focus on distributing, with 14 assists on your next game.

Brunson is the man.

5

9th consecutive playoff win…

No one can deny we’re for real… we are contenders!!

Thanks cyber!

I got another pic i wanna use… the trolls at work tried to use my lil man to troll but I clapped back at their asses quick.

2

So this is why I wanted Cleveland so bad.

Sure, they’ve got some good players, but you can absolutely out-effort them, and they’re not mentally tough. All those missed FTs in the fourth, couldn’t take advantage of the wildly favorable whistle, couldn’t get stops when they needed them.

Atkinson to his team before the game:

“Ok leave Josh Hart open no matter what”

Team:

“What if he starts making shots?”

Atkinson:

“I got nothing”

4

No lie… when the Knicks acquired Hart, i took a look at his numbers and the kind of player he was. I thought to myself, “this guy can win us a playoff game.”

1

KAT has been amazing defensively for the entire playoffs. Best I’ve ever seen him.

6

josh heart just got deep…

servant to his teammates, strong faith, prays for humility, and burned his ego away years ago…

okay there mister josh…I see you…

no lack of introspection with this team…

and good on MB…don’t listen to me – i’m only a fan, prone to emotional swings…

1

I got another pic i wanna use… the trolls at work tried to use my lil man to troll but I clapped back at their asses quick.

If i ever go to LA, i’d like to “meet” them. LOL

1

We are 2 wins away from the finals. I can’t believe my eyes.

I’ll only believe it when we’re there… but it’s looking good. I had to pinch me to know this isn’t a dream. 🙂

Josh had never attempted 11 3PAs in a game his whole Knicks career. His record was 9.

If he does this consistently, there will no longer be a ghost coverage.

2

Also Evan Mobley disappeared in the second half

I should have wished more for infinite wishes…

Hubertsays:

I want the Evan Mobley everyone was making fun of during the Pistons series

Oh well.

2

KAT has been amazing defensively for the entire playoffs. Best I’ve ever seen him.

Everybody is doing the sacrifices we need them to, it’s so nice to see.

1

Team seems egoless right now in the best possible way.

Hart is definitely the Id

(Btw Freud is nonsense but works for this joke)

1

Lol, Atkinson is there talking about how they won in terms of shot quality.

@DanDevine

Kenny Atkinson said that the 3s the Cavs generated in the first half were in the 90th percentile of shot quality, according to their internal metrics. Just didn’t go down.

But are we sure the Cavs can win the shot quality trophy from the Celtics?

4

The Cavs were not affected by the choke job in game 1. They approached this game with the right attitude, and played hard. They really tried. But we are clearly better. Now they have to win four out of five. Good luck with that! They will try, for sure, and the biggest test of these playoffs for the Knicks lies ahead. Let’s hope the Nova winning pedigree will make the difference on Saturday and/or Monday.

3

I’m watching some of these highlights and man, Allen’s not just sagging off Josh, he’s 25 feet away from him on some of these plays.

Note these are Josh Hart highlights I’m watching.

2

Actually got to watch half the game: my wife is putting together a big party treats order which puts me on lil guy and helper duty while watching the game

1

The Cavs’ collective legs are clearly shot due to a) not having more than a day’s rest between games, b) lack of a deep bench, and c) going up against a well-rested team that goes 10 deep. We had 32 assists to 6 turnovers.

In a way, the foul trouble sort of helped. Brunson and Mikal were forced to play 40 minutes, but they spent a lot of time in the 4th watching the Cavs brick FTs and 3’s. Sam Merrill must be on fumes…0-7 from 3, 2-4 from the FT line. Evan Mobley didn’t take a shot in the second half.

The Knicks need to keep them running around on both ends in Cleveland.

1

9 straight playoff wins. I mean guys wrap your heads around that, 9 straight!

This is Knicks fantasy land.

1

I sat behind Donovan’s lady. That Cleveland crew didn’t love how chirpy we were. Holy shit that was fun. Watching our guys just making them work for everything on both ends. And we haven’t played our best game yet.

5

@SbondyNBA
Josh Hart says he’s not big on analytics:

“They’re like a lamppost to a drunk person. You can lean on it but it won’t get you home.”

Guessing he’s not a lurker here. And I couldn’t care in the slightest.

2

let’s see what happens if they don’t leave mobley or allen hanging back by the rim…

clever for jalen and KAT to switch up roles when point KAT got shutdown…

just switched up and went to point point guard…

gotta score more points than the other team, it’s our defense though that’s winning for us…

bench folks gotta cut way back on fouls…with harden and mitchell trying to initiate contact – clarkson doesn’t seem playable…

the lineup MB sent out to start the fourth was ineffective, poorly constructed…cavs took advantage of it…

landry is having a hard time defensively also…

even if deuce’s shot ain’t falling, he’ll get over a screen and not make too many mistakes on defense…so it seems at least…

jose seems fine also in this series…

hopefully landry and clarkson play better, foul less in cleveland…

thankfully though – our starting five is better than theirs…

Edit: just checked, deuce had 5 fouls first game, 2 fouls tonight…not a whole lot of minutes…

Not for nothing, but Mike Brown has officially tied Thibs’ high water mark in the playoffs.

I have felt all along that I wouldn’t be able to judge him until we saw what the team did in the playoffs.

Sold!

1

“My sons play won a BUNCH of awards, and I came out to this score. Fuck yeah.”

That’s great, Alan! Happy for you and yours!

1

let’s see what happens if they don’t leave mobley or allen hanging back by the rim…

They’ll probably try it again because they’re kinda fucked if they don’t. But remember how many big games Josh has had in Cleveland. He likes shooting there.

1

In a way, this will be the first true “road” game for the Knicks. They will have fans there for sure, but probably nothing like ATL or PHI.

geo, i told my wife that my son can choose between Yankees and Dodgers, but he’s gonna be a Knicks fan.

Under NO circumstances will he be a Laker fan. She rolls her eyes at me but really, she’s not gonna put any energy into doing anything about that 😁🤣

2

i told my wife that my son can choose between Yankees and Dodgers

That’s gracious of you, Cdiggy. I’m letting my son have Inter Miami CF but that’s it.

1

I guess he can have the Dolphins, too, especially after that Joe Schoen extension.

don’t remember the story much – but didn’t the cleveland cavaliers once kick mike brown to the curb, and cheat him out of a chance to coach in the finals…

MB heading back to cleveland to get some payback…

Dammit, start. Mitch for Hart already. If Hart is passing open shots, he shouldn’t be there. Hart is not the play. Sub josh hart, enough! The big is not guarding him. Sitting in the paint stopping drives while watching hart shoot bricks. Hart’s shots aren’t even close. Adjustment time, coach. Oh good more Josh Hart. We have two unplayable guys…mitch and hart. Hart can’t make a 3 and Mitch can’t get a rebound or make a free throw. The Mitch-Hart lineup stinks. Hart comes back and immediately shoots an insanely difficult fadeaway. If I were coming up with the strategy for this game, I would hope that Josh Hart had the most shots by halftime…and he does. Jack Nicholson nodding gif everytime Josh hoists a 3. That’s it Josh, go to the rim. They’ll keep daring Hart to shoot but if it’s Shamet or Deuce out there it’ll start scrambling the Cavs’ defense. Hart leads the Knicks with 12 FGAs. Lmao I must admit the timing of my complaints haa been impeccable this series. Hart, the sharpshooter. The Josh Hart game I always predicted. Josh HEART. Whoever complained about Hart needs to apologize. Is shooting 45.5% from three good? Asking for Josh… Kudos to Josh and the starting lineup. I didn’t think they had this in them. He’s here, he’s there, He’s every fucking where! JOSH HART! JOSH HART! That last rebound by Hart was incredible. Josh, you don’t need to foul him now. 3. Josh Hart lmao. Josh Hart , I apologize. Credit Josh Hart. We were all on him and he stepped up. For the record: (LOL!)
