Knicks 2026 Finals Poll Results

So just over 50 people contributed to the Knicks’ poll I posted yesterday. Here are the results:

Obviously we’re all a bit biased towards the Knicks winning, and if I had to choose one to disagree with, it’s Brunson hitting the game winning shot. I feel like the 2026 playoff juggernaut Knicks is based more on a team effort. That no one player is the Knicks’ savior, and it requires all the players operating at high efficiency to win. Yes Brunson is our best pure scorer, but I think when it comes down to it, it’ll be someone else who hits the big shot (see: Horry, Robert). And I feel like that person will be OG.

So comments are closed in the regular daily thread. Is this going to be the new thread for today, or is there another one forthcoming? LOL

pt offered that Deuce’s ability to pull up quickly and get up high on 3’s can be a strength against the Spurs. On a recent KFS X’s and O’s pod with Benji and DJ, they pointed out that several OKC “shooters,” notably Chet and Dort, have slow wind-ups/low releases on their 3’s, making them more vulnerable to close-outs, and that Shai is not really a volume 3pt shooter. They also said that Leon & Co. have stockpiled the roster with shooters that get off 3’s quickly, with a high release point, or both.

sticking with knicks in six…because I like the way it sounds…

thinking we get down big in the first quarter, fight our way back a bit in the second, catch them in the 3rd…

captain clutch and the get fresh crew to close ’em out in the 4th…

probably more a wish than actual thought…

caught up in the rapture…

Knicks in 6. OG mvp. It’s time. Brunson and the Argonauts. Gotta get through Typhon risen no less. Let’s fuck em up.

This has been such a crazy roller coaster season, that I picked Knicks in 7. A high anxiety series with the oft targeted with KB ridicule Mikal hitting the winning shot. As an aside, I have been taken aback by the amount of Knicks gear that I have seen this week.

Knicks in 6. This time Wemby does not get a finger on the 3 to give the Knicks the lead à la Hakeem and all comes full circle.

Series is likely to be decided by an injury, IMHO. That’s just kind of the way of the sports world now. Let’s hope it isn’t.

I am thinking Shamet for the game winner.

I am never picking the Spurs in a poll and am glad most feel the same way. We didn’t come all this way to be honest about things.

I get what you’re saying, but I *honestly* believe that the Knicks are going to win this. As I said, though, point taken. 🙂

… the oft targeted with KB ridicule Mikal hitting the winning shot …

I also picked Mikal.

I can’t wait for tipoff. I def think we’re gonna be rusty, and after the first Spurs run to go up by ten, our confidence will be tested.

We/they must remember: we’ve beaten these guys, and that was even before we started playing the beautiful game.

Pass, cut, pass, score, and repeat. Win.

Man just this image gave me the chills – with #3 Josh Hart – Hustlebunny 2.0 – shooting the shot that Hustlebunny 1.0 Starks couldn’t get over Hakeem…

I picked Knicks in 7. Come home 3-2, chance to clinch in the Garden, lose, city mopes for three days straight, bemoans lost opportunity, go to SA and win Game 7.

Series for the ages.

In all honesty, though, I have no idea what’s gonna happen. Wouldn’t be massively shocked at any possible result on the matrix.

I voted under 40% for Hart, bc I believe:
A: he won’t need to be above 40 to be effective. He can be 35-38% for the series because…
B. It’s more about when he hits his threes. Particularly if he can hit one or two in the first and fourth quarters to force the Spurs D to react.

I’ve got Knicks in 6 but maybe it goes 7. Can’t imagine that they’ll be less than 6 games considering how good both these teams are. I’m kind of expecting us to come out cold/rusty tonight and lose but the extended rest we got will start showing benefits by game 3.

Best value on the gambling matrix, IMHO, is Knicks in five at 12-1. If I could only pick one team/games permutation to lay money on, it would be that one.

I think we’ll learn a lot tonight about “level of competition” that everyone is harping on. If the Knicks come out and blow these guys out this very well could be a sweep. If it’s close either way it’s going to be a long series. I’m actually supremely confident that we can mop the floor with the Spurs because we match up well with them. We’re going to know after this game how historic this Knicks team really is.

I don’t know how to feel!

Whatever happens, I shouldn’t complain. This is all I ever wanted: a real chance at a championship.

Now that we’re here, I’m a little greedier. Losing the way we did in 1999 would feel unsatisfying. I want to win at least 2 games and put some fear into them.

Getting here ratifies everything Leon’s ever done. He wasn’t perfect, but he got us here.

On the one hand, this feels like Wemby’s moment. He’s the best player in the world at 22 and the potential GOAT. Championships are almost always won by teams with GOAT candidates. Driving a championship at 22 puts him well ahead of the other GOAT candidates’ pace.

On the other hand, this feels like destiny, and the best chance we’re ever likely to get. Next year OKC will have Giannis or something, and the Spurs are set to dominate the next decade by being the last team that was allowed to draft three top 5 picks in a row.

We’re tough, smart, talented, and experienced. We can win.

I can’t actually picture it happening, tonight or in the series, but I would have said that about everything that’s happened so far. If we win this series, I might cry.

I love you all, and LGK!

Just stopped by the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue to get my son a t-shirt and let me tell you: it is awesome to see the place being rampaged by people trying to buy Knicks apparel.

1

I think this goes six or seven…we’re not blowing this team away in 4 or 5 games…their defensive intensity and physicality is 5x any team we played so far…

I still can’t believe this is happening…I’m just trying to stay busy and not think about it until opening tip off…never thought I would see it in my lifetime…

Just happy we have Brunson and he is healthy…i hope he goes fucking nuts in this series..

I bought some tshirts online, and am furious that they’re not arriving by today. It feels like everyone is wearing the same Knicks hat as me, but mine has a lot more miles on it.

EDIT: OH SHIT IT MIGHT BE THERE WHEN I GET HOME!!!

Got some heavily discounted Knick gear coming via Shein. Don’t judge me (though it’s not like i have too many local options to buy Knicks).

Here’s a thing that scares me: I feel like we’re so used to historical irrational confidence and hoping against the odds, that it’s hard to internalize when there’s evidence – solid evidence – to actually support confidence and hope. Yes, the Spurs will be the most talented team we’ll face. At the same time, our team has weathered many instances of opponent surges: they’ve shown that they can take their opponents best punch and stay level until it’s their turn to counter. They’ve even shaken off hideous shooting (with a few fortunate bounces) to overcome a seemingly insurmountable deficit to pull out a W.

Now that I think about it… Mike Brown brought the one thing that truly lets this team flow philosophically from Leon Rose on down: adaptability, and being able to pivot from mistakes.

I’m confident… and it’s scary.

I have League Pass and also got Hulu just in case. (Can’t always count on VPN magic.) No way am I missing our first trip back to the Finals in 27 years. I did not sit through Jorts, Balkman, Schved, Amundson, freaking Bargnani just to miss it because it’s the middle of the night. I’ll be up until 5am here in Barcelona.

This again brings me back to 1970. That Knicks squad was loaded with Hall of Famers, but not a one of them would ever be looked at as an inner circler. Whereas the Lakers had Wilt at the tail end of his prime, Jerry West still at the peak of his powers, and Baylor before the wheels came off. Wilt for a long time had a very good argument as the GOAT (some might still say he has a good argument, given his level of dominance over his peers compared to MJ and LeBron’s dominance over theirs). Jerry West is the goddamn logo of the NBA. Yet those Knicks won.

This is our moment as much as it is Wemby’s. I don’t know if we will win, but I wouldn’t be shocked if we do, where our collective talent is more effective than Wemby’s individual genius and the insane athleticism of Harper and Castle.

Good thing we have Brunson. 🙂

I know that we don’t have a GOAT-type. But we do have a top-5 to 10 player, one of the best bigs in the game, one of the best defenders in the game, and a bunch of very good role players who complement each other.

Championships are almost always won by teams with GOAT candidates.

Overruled by “championships are never won by kids with no playoff experience coming into the year.”

Yeah, at least one of several pieces of NBA conventional wisdom will be proved untrue, regardless of who wins. If it’s us, it’s not just “you need a GOAT candidate” but “you can’t win if your best player is a very small guard.”

Overruled by “championships are never won by children with no playoff experience coming into the year.”

Potentially overruled by “this particular child is even more special than previous children who have driven teams to the finals, like LeBron or Shaq.”

But yeah, history suggests that some dues-paying should be required before they break through, and we’re here to collect. Or perhaps, to Kolekt.

There was no GOAT candidate in Boston just two years ago. And the team they faced had a top-5 NBA guy.

Also, can we be frank about who the Spurs have faced?

Everyone’s commenting on how the Knicks got lucky in the east and had an easy path.

Portland? They’re the west version of Atlanta.

Minnesota? Missing DDV. Ant man was hurt. Ayo got hurt.

OKC? Obviously a great win to get by them but also missing 2 of their key rotation players.

The Spurs are good, obviously. Best team we will have faced in the playoffs. But they didn’t steamroll their way through the West facing the toughest competition. They also had some luck in their favor.

but “you can’t win if your best player is a very small guard.”

That last part was always Becky Hammon dumb, though, given that Isiah won two in a row, three finals in a row, five straight ECFs.

That one never should have gotten off the ground.

I’m not so sure what all the hub ub is about. We played them 3 times during the season: 11 point win in the Cup, 25 point win at MSG and a 2 point loss in SA where we had a clear lead and Champaignie went on a 11-17 heater from 3.

We are playing vastly better now. Wemby is gonna get banged constantly by Mitch , KAT and OG. He was compromised the farther the last series went and even with the extra day for travel in the finals, I don’t think he has the grown man strength for a back to back grind series.

He might be trouble tonight, though.

I voted Knicks in 6, I think its crazy to be thinking about possibly sweeping the Spurs. Unlike the regular season and the East playoffs I’ll be watching this series relaxed and just enjoying it, don’t anticipate getting pissed or frustrated if we lose to the Spurs.

I picked Knicks in 7 because it’s so evenly matched. I basically went chalk with the other stuff: Brunson to hit the big shot and win FMVP, Hart to average under 40% from 3 (I see one Josh Hart Game where he hits 4+ threes, one alright game where he goes 3/5, at least one where he won’t shoot.)

Sort of like Alan, this does sort of remind me of the last Championship team playing the Lakers with Wilt, West, etc. Like the Lakers, the Spurs have the star power, and perhaps the face of the league, but hopefully the Knicks collective overcomes them. LGK.
