2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Pistons – He Beat That Kid to a Bloody Pulp

The Knicks head to Detroit to give a quick sign to the young Pistons that the Knicks are going to kick their ass in the first round of the playoffs is that turns out to be the 3/6 matchup.

Let’s go, Knicks!

The Dylan song is the classic “Brownsville Girl,” which Dylan co-wrote with Sam Shepard.

To the old thread: underrating volume scoring is a big part of what we do here, we’re not just gonna kick it to the curb

Keep up with the times, people, Booker is a very valuable player

It’s not really fair when their point guard is two feet taller than ours.

OG would be useful here.

Haha. Brunson was like, that’s not a foul? I’m going knock Cunningham on his ass this time down the floor.
And he gets the foul.

Has towns ever not fallen down after a layup…he puts us in a 5 on 4 situation every time if the other team pushes the ball up

Detroit is not a good offensive team but this season against the Knicks they look like the KD Warriors.

Educate, I’m with you on Delon. Cam Payne and Shamet aren’t exactly going to cut it size-wise. Although Cunningham’s out at the moment…

Precious totally doing the “Eff You Knickerblogger” thing.

Precious really is like a box of chocolates, except you usually get the ones filled with jelly.

KAT could get wide open 3s on almost every possession but he keeps cutting and driving instead of spotting up.

If we get these guys in the first round, we’re going to have fist fights breaking out all over by game three.

Coming into tonight Detroit was 9th in defensive rating and 17th in offensive rating.

Awesome seeing Deuce looking healthy and ready for the playoffs, he could be a huge x-factor.

We traded away the pick that became Duren, if I recall correctly.

PJ with a message to anyone who has spent weeks complaining about his roster spot

Would be fitting for the Knicks to lose this game by blowing a double digit lead in the 2nd half.

If this is how the Knicks are going to defend Cade in the playoffs we’re fucked.

If this is how the Knicks are going to defend Cade in the playoffs we’re fucked.

OG

This Knicks team is one of the lowest basketball IQ non rookie-loaded teams in the NBA. The only way I can cope with it is to laugh at them.

Yeah I wrote it tongue in cheek considering both OG and Hart are out but regardless Cade is gonna be a huge problem.

Pretty sure Cade has cooked OG during the reg season , Cade hasn’t shot under 50 % in any of the three previous meetings this season.

Maybe I’ll regret saying this, but this Pistons team doesn’t scare me at all.

Cade and then who??

Any team the Knicks play they will have issues because they have a PG and Center who the opposing team knows they can attack.

I had to deal with income tax stuff and missed most of the third quarter. I returned to watching and found a really crappy game, with lots of mistakes on both sides unlike the first half.

Pretty sure Knicks don’t scare the Pistons either.

A tie game in the 4th quarter with 2 of our starters missing isn’t exactly a statement game

Seems like one of Brunson or Mikal should be out there to provide some semblance of shot creation

Can we trade Towns before the playoffs start or do we have to wait until the off season?

Knicks master plan must be to ensure that most of the media will be predicting a Pistons upset in the 1st rd so they can use that as extra motivation.

The collective basketball IQ of this team has be among the lowest in the NBA and that includes the coach.

Kinda surprised at the gloom and doom tonight. We’re missing 2 starters and Mitch, and Thibs played PJ Tucker of all people significant minutes.

Meaningless loss, and means nothing come playoff time. And I honestly don’t care about the season series either.

Ever since Brunson and Bridges came back in the game, every single offensive possession has been dreadful

It’ll be easier for me to accept that d-mar tomorrow but right now watching this meltdown it’s hard to be rational at the moment…

This team is going to end up with a regular szn record similar to last season

The Knicks were handcuffed by Detroit in that second half. They looked lost like little kids. They better get ready to match and play through Detroit’s intense and physical game, otherwise it’s gonna be a really bad series for them in a couple of weeks.

Genuinely terrible play down the stretch with most of the key rotation players on the floor.

Bad look.

One thing I’ll say- The Knicks don’t have an identity and this is the 79th game of the season

And nobody plays their starters more than Thibs, so what is exactly going on?

We’re going to have to beat the nets on the last day to get 3 seed

We sure we want the 3 seed?

KAT had probably his worst game as a Knick.

For a quarter and a half, the Knicks could neither stop the Pistons, nor score on them. They went up by 13 and fifteen or so minutes later lost the game by 9.

If the Knicks lose out and drop to the 4th seed I hope they fucking get swept in the 1st rd.

The Pacers can throw the last game of the season , they still have full control . The Knicks were not tanking in this game.

One thing I’ll say- The Knicks don’t have an identity and this is the 79th game of the season

80th ** gave them too much credit

If I was Leon I’d already be putting out feelers to see if there is any interest in Towns and I’d also re-engage with Ainge about Kessler. Brunson and Towns are a problem that’s not going away. We got killed inside. If Mitch played tonight we would have won. I realize we’ve had some issues with Mitch’s fitness and playing B2Bs, but we are basically going into the playoffs without knowing if he and Towns can play together. So either Thibs thinks they can’t (which means Towns probably has to go) or Thibs is a stubborn idiot (another distinct possibility).

The lack of Towns/Mitch minutes is on the coach . As I said above right now this team doesn’t have an identity. Maybe Thibs has something up his sleeves for the playoffs, but this is a coach that doesn’t adjust so that seems like a dream.

Shamet hit 2 huge tough 3s in a row and then drew an offensive foul to change the momentum of the game but Thibs immediately benched him. Thib’s OCD must have kicked in and told him it was time to make his usual lineup change. I hate to say this before the playoffs even start because I want to be optimistic and can see that we have a lot of talent on this team, but there are some clear cut obvious issues. I hope Leon can see them because we need some big changes to beat teams like the Celtics, Thunder and maybe a few others even though the gap in talent is not large at all. In fact we are probably more talented than some of the teams that would beat us. They are just built better and coached better.

They are just built better and coached better.

Agree ….individually…they have talent but collectively…it’s ill fitting…like the weaknesses are magnified instead of offset….I would see what towns and bridges can fetch this off-season

As bad as they played down the stretch, remember three things. First, they were resting players who can potentially make the difference. Second, the coaching stuff didn’t want to show all their cards. Third, who knows, they might not be against avoiding Boston in the second round. The future will tell, but I wouldn’t lose my mind right now and start demanding Thibs’ head on a plate or start considering potential off-season trades for KAT, Bridges, and so on. Everyone should relax. Let’s get through the playoffs and take it from there.

this grizz/wolves game really turned in the 3rd…ja keeps throwing the ball all over the place…

somehow jjj looks even bigger than usual, hope he keeps staying healthy…

I must admit I am often amused by “the most sophisticated fan base in the NBA” .

The fan base screams at the Knicks for not resting players and punting on a few regular season wins for the longevity factor. The Knicks do exactly that in game 80 resting two starters and three significant players where finishing 3rd or 4th are hard to distinguish and it is OfF WiTh ThEiR HeAdS!!!!!

it’s just, it’s just that it is better to win than to lose…

winning >>> losing

each and every day, for each and every moment, of each and every day…win win win win win win win win win win win win…

you’re getting soft bob…

i continue to remain unimpressed with town’s bb iq — he does the dumbest stuff at the worst time all the time (fouls, unnecessary outlets to defenders, no def awareness at all). If he’s our 1st or 2nd best player we’re screwed. If he’s third behind a full speed Jalen, and a consistent OG, then maybe we have something.

To the old thread: underrating volume scoring is a big part of what we do here, we’re not just gonna kick it to the curb. Keep up with the times, people, Booker is a very valuable player

White is good at everything, Booker is not. If I have to kick one to the curb, it would be Booker.

somehow jjj looks even bigger than usual, hope he keeps staying healthy…

The bigger he looks, the smaller he rebounds.

I admit that, prior to the recent change around here, I missed a bunch of threads. Is Hubert gone? ptmilo too? (Do they know it’s safe to come back?)

I don’t think they should tank into the four seed, just get the three seed and hope for the best.

Meanwhile, the Bucks are suddenly hot as fuck, so I think the Knicks will still be much better off if they play the Pistons. Are the Pistons locked in as the #6 seed yet?

The Bucks got Portis back and it seems to have made a difference
