2016-17 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Cavs

I know people are already writing this one off because Lebron is angry over Phil being a dick, but I really think that the Knicks have a chance tonight. Yes, Lebron will play angry, but who is to say that that means he’ll play better? Lebron gives it his all every time he comes to New York. I don’t see how he’s going to give extra greatness tonight.

And, as we’ve seen before, this team tends to play to their opponents. They let the shitty teams like Minnesota keep it close, but they also kept it close themselves against Toronto. So I think that they’re going to come out charged up to avenge their blowout loss from the beginning of the season.

So I have faith in them tonight! They’re going to make a statement here!

Let’s go, Knicks!

  1. You know what would be incredibly ironic and funny? If for one game..tonight..Melo morphs into Kawhi defensively and the Knicks win going away. If that happens, we get a chip this season lol. That, my friends, would be the one in a million event…the glitch in the matrix.

In all seriousness, have they ruled Rose out for the game? It would be nice if they would rest him for tonight and the Kings game..maybe even the Lakers game so they can get Randle some action just to see where he’s at

  2. KP needs to bounce back offensively. If that happens and we hold back special snowflake Lebron, we can win.

@ #1: Rose has been ruled out.

  3. Listening to the ESPN pre-game it seems like the Knicks are playing awful because of the outdated triangle offense. No mention of the fact that the Knicks are actually 12-9 and are a borderline Top 10 offense this season thanks in part because they are barely using the triangle but can’t get in the way of an overblown narrative.

  4. Cronin…man…

No jinxes before the Knicks’ lead is safe (provided you remember that no knicks lead is safe)

  5. Looking forward to this one. I reckon we’ll lose, but hopefully we at least play better than the first game.

  6. Hey, I’m not saying that they will win, as the odds are obviously against that. Just saying that they have a real chance.

  7. the defense is going to be key… we’ve defended better on our little streak so it’ll be interesting to see how far it’s come since opening day… i imagine more kp at the 5 with melo sprinkled in at the 4…

  8. I think this game is going to do wonders for Rose’s +/-.

    ;-)

Should be fun. I love watching Lebron.

  9. Big game. I’m stoked. Win or lose, I want to see a well played, playoff atmosphere game.
    Go NY Go NY Go!!!!

  10. I’m a dark-skinned Asian male and purple works well on me, but holy shit Clyde that is too much

  11. Looks like this is going to be one of those “You score, now I score, now you score” types of games. Well, those are kind of fun, at least.

  12. Well, it was that type of game before the two steals interrupted the Knicks’ side of the back and forth scorefest.

  13. Jennings is square peg in round hole with these guys. Not running what he’s used to. Taking away all his impact. I wonder what happens to second unit now.

  14. See, now the Knicks get a steal to make up for the other steals! Just, you know, not in control. :(

  15. Liggins is playing great defense on him though.

JR out is a blessing in disguise for the Cavs

  16. He is playing tough D. They need to get out and run and hope it doesn’t turn double edged … we don’t play good enough D to grind back in it

  17. They might be better than us

Also every Cav starting out hot from three = instant blowout

  18. Cavs play like it’s the 7th game of the finals/
LBJ must have threatened them to play for his pride

  19. They’re “only” down 15 despite every Cav being hot. That’s something.

Cavs not exactly putting the clamps down on D.

  20. KP shouldn’t be guarding Love when Noah’s in the game.

Denver trying to give up 70 to the Nets in a half.

  21. KOQ! Now just get it to single digits against this shitty back-up lineup and we’ll be talking.

  22. See, this is a great end to the quarter. You have to take advantage when the other side gifts you an insanely shitty lineup. And that’s what they’re doing.

  23. KP does look a lot more comfortable guarding Love in the post. Which looked like Love’s role with the Cavs’ 2nd unit. That also helped NY win the bench battle.

  24. Love is beating KP
    Lebron is beating Melo
    Irving is beating Jennings
    That’s trouble

True, but two of those guys are not in the game right now and obviously we’ve seen in Minny that you can stop Love if he’s the only good player on the court.

  25. Love is beating KP

Not in the post. Clutch block to close out the quarter. Love looks just as uncomfortable in the post vs. KP.

  26. Weird lineup. I don’t think Justin Holiday is going to be a point forward.

  27. When KP has got the washed remnants of Richard Jefferson and Mike Dunleavy guarding him you gotta get him the ball

  28. Vujacic as the backup PG is not ideal.

Yeah but how were we supposed to know Rose might miss time?

  29. I like the Melo subsitution; why not run the offense through a Melo/KP or Melo/KOQ PNR while Jennings sits?

  30. Well, I guess they need to wait for Lebron to take another breather for the next big run.

  31. It is amazing how you can surround Lebron with, like, four rec league guys and he could make them look okay. Look at the guys out there with him!!!

  32. It is amazing how you can surround Lebron with, like, four rec league guys and he could make them look okay.

He is a one man wrecking crew. The effort he puts out on every play is what makes him a superstar.

  33. Just haven’t seen much tenacity … other than Noah early and very few moments from others. They are playing so “weak” if you know what I mean

  34. Shumpert is like a guy who would make a good actor playing a basketball player. A lot of it looks good but nothing really happens

  35. Just haven’t seen much tenacity … other than Noah early and very few moments from others. They are playing so “weak” if you know what I mean

Knicks are playing units that are not used to each other with only Jennings at PG.

  36. Holiday looks like a child guarding Lebron

Looks like he’s playing his dad in the driveway

  37. Can will call Lance five star since he single handedly eliminated all our euros?

    (Joke for farfa)

  38. Shumpert is like a guy who would make a good actor playing a basketball player. A lot of it looks good but nothing really happens

nah man once he learns to finish at the rim and make good passes he could be a solid NBA player

  39. Writers at the game tweeting that for the first time ever they gave a video tribute to JVG. About damn time.

  40. Katie Holmes + Rebecca Haarlow = Pure ennui

I would love to see a thorough analysis of how good Lebron is on the fast break. It’s just amazing how much he scores in transition at his size. Everytime I watch him I think to myself, Melo never does that.

  41. Melo on the 2nd night of a back-to-back….

He’s actually doing what many here bitch and moan that he should do. He’s facilitating. Isn’t that the refrain if he’s going like 2-10????

  42. He should try to pass the ball at the hoop instead of shooting.

    lol

Best post of the first half.

  43. Nobody on the floor for the Knicks can guard LeBron.

Here’s a list of players who can guard LeBron for 40 minutes a game:

    Kawhi Leonard
    Kawhi Leonard
    Kawhi Leonard
    Kawhi Leonard
    Kawhi Leonard
    Kawhi Leonard
    Kawhi Leonard
    Kawhi Leonard
    and
    Kawhi Leonard

  44. Welp. At least I can do something else. Rest the starters Horny. Don’t need anymore injuries for the trip

  45. So it’s time for Melo’s butt to be riding the pines. Game over. If this was another team, yeah, I would say there’s a chance for a comeback. Let’s rest up for the trip.

  46. Well, for a moment there it looked like they had a chance. When they cut it to 9 and then KP stepped out of bounds.

  47. Yep cavs took advantage of the Knicks shitty three point D. On that note if KP is gonna play stretch 4s can we coach the guy up to stay glued to them? Thanks

  48. Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah had good games. If we can get their per minute production from tonight every night we’d be in amazing shape.

KP needs to be excoriated for that 3 rebounds in 31 minute performance. Weak sauce.

  49. You think we can swing a trade for Aaron Gordon? He’s wasting away in Orlando and I don’t want Toronto to steal him. Either Gordon or Kidd-Gilchrist.

  50. I think we should let billy take more threes that form looked good lol

  51. I think we should let billy take more threes that form looked good lol

there may be a stretch 4 in him, yet

  52. You think we can swing a trade for Aaron Gordon? He’s wasting away in Orlando and I don’t want Toronto to steal him. Either Gordon or Kidd-Gilchrist.

I just do not know where he would fit in NY. He can’t shoot well enough to play the 4 with Melo taking up space down low. If he just plays with the second unit he would have to fight for playing time with O’Quinn and Willy since they are the main ones that play next to KP.

I think I would still try to get him and let him take Ndour’s place though.

  53. He and Jennings would be a formidable 1-2 punch off the bench. Mix in some Holiday, LT/Kuz, and O’Quinn and you’ve got yourself a stew.

  54. We should tank. Trade for Grant. Bring back Fisher.

    It’s over.

Giving up so quickly? Where’s your national, er, team pride? Sad!

  55. They won’t do it, but man the Clippers could get a hell of a picks/young players package if they decided to sell at the deadline.

  56. You know you’re a pretty good team when the best shooter in NBA history goes 0-8 from three and you still blow out the Clippers
