2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Clippers – His Knees Went Limp

The Knicks take on the Los Angeles Clippers, who are a fascinating team. They’re obviously a good team, and they have two Hall of Famers in their starting rotation, but at the same time, it just seems like they have no real upside as a team, since Harden is ancient, and Kawhi is not a spring chicken, either, plus his knees are like putty (hence the Dylan lyric for the title).

And yet, they’re hanging in there with a lot of good teams, just barely losing to the Thunder in their last game. They’re well-coached (I’m no big Ty Lue fan, but he’s done a great job here), they give it their all, they’re a compelling team, even if I don’t see how they’re ever going to be better than the fourth best team in their conference.

Let’s go, Knicks!

The Dylan song is “Tin Angel,” from the album, Tempest.

Gonna be a tough game, will be pleasantly surprised if the Knicks pull a win out tonight.

Yeah..they need to show out tonight

I mean…we need a good home win…it’s meaningless from a standings perspective…that is unless indy stays hot and we stumble…

Was hoping to see The Claw against The Poor Man’s Claw.

Although the way he’s been playing, he’s more The Claw 2.0 (except for his tiny Nerlens Noel hands that can’t guide the ball into the basket on layups…).

Knicks play so much better defense when teams are just going one on one and not setting multiple screens.

This is the offense I was hoping they’d develop with Jalen out.

Here i am. What is this? I thought i was coming in for a 10 or 15 pt deficit… 😀

Looks like they might hit 27 assists sometime late in the second quarter…

I really hope that we see Mitch, Kolek, and McSee tonight. It would be great if it were for more than just spot minutes, but a man can dream, can’t he?

Looks like Kolek starts the second quarter, as per the last game.

And Mitch.

I hate to whine, but there have been some really atrocious no-calls against the Knicks so far. Even for the swallow-the-whistle year.

There have also been some atrocious mid-range jump shots by the Knicks. Various of them.

Not a great sign that Mitch can only play 5 minutes in a half having not played for several days

Hart’s last shot of the half looked weirdly similar to his first shot…

something like 19 minutes of really good basketball and then a bunch of garbage

Wouldn’t mind prime Mo Cheeks playing PG right now for the Knicks.

I’d even take the 1990 version that helped the Knicks beat Boston in the playoffs.

Why is Kolek opening the third?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind. Just surprised.

Payne right ankle sprain, so it’s all Kolek all the time now.

Oh no, Knicks lost this game because of Kolek

This is his 1st time in an NBA game starting ever

Wonder how Brunsons 1st game ever went in Dallas..

I think we’ve reached the point where there’s no reason whatsoever to watch Knick games until Brunson returns.

The Knicks weren’t beating any contenders with Brunson in the lineup ..

No point guard or game plan from the coach to adjust will get ya this result every time

Look at Thibs putting back OG in a lost cause game with six minutes to go.

Smh

No point guard or game plan from the coach to adjust will get ya this r

esult every time

The Point Guard they have right now has barely played all season and has under 20 minutes all season with the starters. Not easy to coach mid game like that.

Ummmmmmm……. Kolek didn’t start, so it’s not his first time in an NBA game starting ever.

Thank God Yankees season starts tomorrow.

Careful what you wish for, it’s a Rodon game

Well, it’s the 2nd night of a back to back, so maybe they’re tired and it showed more in the 2nd half.

A good summary of this game is Mikal had 9 assists in the first half. He still has 9.

Yeah DRed I’m actually not that excited about the Yankees season starting right now. I was when Spring Training started but losing Stanton, Gil then obviously Cole has put a pretty big downer on my excitement. But I still expect them to make the playoffs if not win the division, just not as easily as I expected a month ago.

OKC would beat the Knicks soundly, as they’ve already done. (Yes, I know you meant the Clippers, despite it not really being clear. 🙂 )

I still don’t know what the heck “Where is your G-d now?” means, either. LOL

Take everyone out Thibs! You’re not winning this game and only risking injury.

God he has been awful this year.

For those looking for a half full glass Dadiet had his best game of the season tonight in White Plains.

Somehow that information didn’t help. But you spelling Dadiet’s name correctly helped a *little* bit.

Anyone want to guess who’ll be on the court for the last 45 seconds of a back-to-back loss?

We’re not very good and are dreadfully boring without Jalen Brunson.

Get well soon, Cap.

Watched only the fourth quarter and the Clippers looked clearly superior to the Knicks. A look at the box score also shows poor second and third quarters by the Knicks. The Clippers are an experienced team and it was to be expected that their superstars would take over at some point. Seventy two Clippers points in the second half! Yikes!

Nothing new here — we already know we have trouble competing against elite teams, particularly when we are not fully healthy.

Our last hope is that we will get it together, good health and good defense, in the playoffs. This has also been clear for sometime now.

Somehow that information didn’t help. But you spelling Dadiet’s name correctly helped a *little* bit.

I don’t know why it didn’t help…. he is the only young guy on the roster who has the body type, athleticism and skill set to possibly be good/excellent in the future. He spent the last 2.5 months nursing a foot injury, he is 19 and his play in Westchester is pointing up. Not a lot of 19 yr old swing men with length can shoot 7-11 from 3. Small sample size but the young man has skills to work with. If he was a stock, I’d take a flyer with him.

Not blaming tonight on the coach, but a lot of the boringness comes from the fact the coach really doesn’t have a system. It’s iso iso iso. Brunson is the teams best iso player, but it’s not a long term winning formula.

In fairness it’s tough enough without Brunson but then you also take out Deuce and Payne the Knicks are really fucked.

Rick Carlisle system is a fun brand of basketball and LeBron with a lucky tip?

Well the Pacers don’t gain ground

I had a slice of salted caramel doberge cake today. I love Nola. The Knicks playing .500 ball without Brunson is very much to be expected. Forget it Jake. It’s Chinatown.

It’s iso iso iso.

35 assists on 42 made baskets. The offense was pretty good tonight, especially considering we don’t have Brunson and the Clippers are a really good defensive team. The Clippers made 53% of their 3s

Didn’t the Knicks have 40 assists last night?

That was a tanking roster the Mavs put on the court.

I think we have the tiebreaker against both the Pacers and the Bucks. We are three games ahead of the Pacers with ten games remaining. Even if we go 3-7 from now on, the Pacers have to go 7-3 to overtake us for third. If we go 5-5, the Pacers have to win 9 out of 10. Add one game in each scenario for the Bucks to overtake us. Very unlikely to happen.

It is likely though that the depleted Bucks fall to sixth place, and this is good news for us. I’d prefer the Bucks to the pesky and hungry Pistons.

Yeah with Deuce out, our bench is just abysmal. The starters were decent, but the paper clips had 24 bench points compared to our 12. We need to add at least three more real rotation players next year.

This Boston team doesn’t attempt two pointers? It’s just threes and layups.

The first quarter was beautiful offensive basketball. We just got worse and worse as the game wore on. Legs on a BTB? Ty Lue running roughshod coaching-wise on Thibs? We’re just a stupid team that wanders away from what’s working?

I really don’t know the answer. But that team should really just try to emulate that first quarter for, you know, a whole game.

I’d like to see a roster more like this next year:

Brunson
Bridges
Hart
OG
KAT
——
Mitch
Deuce
Bobby Portis
Jordan McLaughlin
——
Hukporti
Bones Hyland
Beauchamp
McCullar
Rookie

…maybe even swap Beauchamp for a vet with playoff experience who will come cheap like Batum (in this scenario, I’m trading Kolek for one of these vets.)
