2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Nets: Time to Get Over .500!

After an embarrassing, but much-needed, win in their first matchup, the Knicks now need to make a statement and kick the Nets’ ass tonight.

How in the fuck is this also a home game?! What a fucking stupid schedule.

Towns is playing, so he should feast tonight against the weak Nets’ centers.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Looking at a possible layoff from work tomorrow so need a win tonight! 😂

I still don’t feel like we have an adequate explanation as to what exactly happened to Ben Simmons, who was at one point one of the best finishers in the NBA and is only 28.

It’s all good. Part of being a union electrician. I’m planning on taking the rest of the month off if I do. Plus I’m playing in my first ever WSOPC tournament on Thanksgiving in North Carolina. It will give me time to tune up. 👍

How about we play some defense!?

I noticed the Seahawks game was close and near the end so I watched the last minute before turning to the Knicks. I don’t watch much football these days, so I have a question for you football aficionados out there. The Seahawks scored a touchdown to go ahead by two points with 12 seconds to go. Then they kicked the extra point to go up by three. I would have gone for a two point conversion to try and ensure the other team needed a touchdown instead of a field goal. Any thoughts?

So much for hoping Knicks would come out with energy and intensity after that embarrassing 4th quarter on Friday, instead they’re coming out treating this game as if it’s preseason.

Anunoby stepping into a 3 off that fake instead of mid ranger is a welcome change. I think Thibs specifically mentioned trying to drill that into him.

Noah Clownley-ing us. (who are these guys?!! and will we have a player on the floor with all these fouls)

Huk plays basically the whole second half the other night, and doesn’t see the floor here. Strange.

3rd game in a row that we don’t look any better than a tanking opponent

Check Bondy’s tweet in the previous thread, Thibs’ pecking order is unchanged… ☹️

Thanks. I guess I don’t understand why Sims didn’t play that much on Friday then.

Pacome has good defensive instincts for a teenager.

Dadiet’s defense looked pretty good.

Edit: As Marechal just posted while I was typing.

bidiong, best of luck with that!

-there is no way that Kolek displaces Payne in the rotation
-as marechal and KFNINJ pointed out, Dadiet has good feet on D

Lol, Dadiet is navigating screens better than Mikal. Really impressed by his all around defense (repeating myself, KFNINJ and Zman).

The recurring theme of Knicks’ positive runs while Brunson is out makes me unconfortable…

Yup guys, Dadiet’s showing some defensive chops…

More like it, but I’m with Hart on that being a goal tend and am mad the highlight was stolen from him

In re Huk, according to Hahn, Thibs cited Sims’s “rim protection numbers.”

Best I could find:

Sims dfg% is 33.3% within 6ft of the rim.

Hukporti is at 40%.

KAT at 77.8%.

interesting watching the knicks go on some recent runs with jalen resting on the bench…

I know out post season success is going to be tied to jalen – it’s funny though that he sucks worse than cam.payne right now 🙃

Even if that quick pull up is money, I wish Mikal would go to the basket a little more often. I can’t recall a single free throw he’s had this season (I’m sure he’s had some!).

I’ve never been worried about Bridges’ jumper because it’s been ironclad for the better part of a decade, but I do still want to know what it looks like when he takes a free throw.

Aggressive OG is best OG.

Maybe Bridges just decided to shoot midranges as well as KD and all will be fine. He’s shooting 60% from 3-10 feet, and 58% from, 10-16 feet. That’ll do.

Even their good defensive possessions end up with points for the opponent so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If Brunson was playing great and the rest of the team shitty I’d be way more worried than the other way around

League seems to have figured Brunson out. Just put a long guy on him, press, and double late

The good news is that we have so much scoring depth Brunson can have a half like that and we can still have the lead. The bad news is something may be amiss with Brunson. Either the league has finally figured out to slow him down or something else is not right.

Yeah, only 18 3PAs allowed is fine. Nets hit almost half of those, which is what has kept them alive.

The Knicks fouled a lot, which I thought was a bigger issue this half.

I just saw on twitter that Towns now has the franchise record for 3s made by a center in a single season

The Cavs are 15-0,
while the Pistons smoked our next opponent (it took until February 7th last season for Detroit to win their 7th game, now they look like a potential play-in team).

OG should be punished for costing KAT an assist…

Simmons is really awful. I guess the Nets have to play him but he totally kills their offense.

That acquiring KAT would leave us with a dearth of playmaking was a concern that seemed reasonable but isn’t aging well

If anything this less heliocentric offense will be much better for the playoffs, if they ever get their defense in order. It was too easy to get the offense bogged down last year, even by a non-dominant defense like Indiana.

I never understood that. That was part of the argument for having Hart in the starting lineup. He’s a plus rebounder and playmaker for the position that would make up of lot of the gap from losing Randle while Towns would make up the scoring and do it more efficiently. Towns’ playmaking has been gravy.

Town’s playmaking has been white chocolate frosting.

And he’s always looking for cutters. It’s great to see.

Missing wide ass open 3s when you have a chance to extend the lead will always be annoying.

60 bench minutes by the Nets to 28 bench minutes for the Knicks.

When the wheels fall off in the fourth again, remember these numbers.

I was about to say it’s been a quiet KAT game, and he has 21-12-5 and has only missed 4 shots.

Edit: and as I write it, he misses a defensive coverage and makes a dumb foul.

Every year before the season starts, Australian Media love showing the videos of Ben Simmons expanding his range. This will be the year!

(0 3pts attempted in 9 games this year. 0 3pts attempted in 15 games last year. 2 in 42 games the year before)

Cam Payne makes me laugh (and throw up a little in my mouth), he angles his body so much that I keep expecting a pass to the guy in the corner but the ball suddenly heads toward the basket for a three. Whiplash.

I missed a bunch of the game. Love that Dadiet was +14 in 5 minutes without taking a shot

The new Frenchman, same as the old Frenchman

I’m very, very , very upset with the referees

And not subbing for KAT after his 4th foul doesn’t go down as one of Thibs’ brightest decisions…

He has the point guard version of Robin Lopez’s loading-the-trebuchet shooting motion.

Dadiet played some nice defense in that five minutes, both individual and team defense. He looks like he’s gonna be a player.

My fault, I had him with 5 fouls already…

The defense has been fine after the first quarter. Nets have 81 points in about 73 possessions by my count, which would be a pretty 110 DRtg.

The coach runs everybody into the ground for the first three quarters, so it’s quite unsurprising that they’re not very good in the fourth quarter.

Assuming Thibs doesn’t sit Mikal or Hart anymore, they will play 44 min on the first night of a back to back. OG on pace for 41.

Of course there’s a fourth quarter meltdown. You could see this coming in the third quarter when we had a small lead but half as many minutes as the Nets from our bench.

Our coach does dumb shit, whatareyougonnado.

Love how the camera guy shows Huk right after that Sims foul. Even he knows what’s up.

Last 2 games Nets in the 4th quarter have gotten the 1996 Bulls whistle from the refs.

How do the Nets get a shooting foul every possession. It’s a little insane. 28 FTAs already.

The walls of Jericho are shaking…. or something, not sure the metaphor works

If Mikal scores another point, it’s four players on the Knicks with 20 or more points…

Not sure I can think of a player who shoots the ball with ball more above his head than Bridges.

It’s super funky but I am all about outcomes right now.

Yeah, this is one of Sims’ better games. Pretty good stretch of team play here to close this out.

SO glad our starters are playing against their scrubs with a minute to go.

We were winless against the KD’s Nets, we have won all the games against BRK since his trade to Phoenix…

So Hart and Bridges play the entire 2nd half. Prolly not ideal against the Nets (or anyone in November).

if you had asked me after summer league was over I was pretty sure pacome would spend most the season in westchester – nope…

kid has an nba ready body, and has been coached well on how to play the game…

I’m happily surprised…

In the first game of a B2B.
Insane.

I feel quite certain I played an important role in averting an otherwise inevitable defeat. I am just glad Cronin didn’t appear. My powers don’t extend far enough to defeat his jinxes.

Yeah, the minutes loads for a meaningless November game is kind of insane. 46 min for Josh, 44 for Mikal, 40 for OG. Hopefully Deuce is back next game so that he can stagger them more.

That said, defense was ok today after a bad start, and the Nets hit their 3s so it wasn’t that. I’d think that on a more average evening they are not called for as many fouls as they were, so I think it’s encouraging.

The offense seems unstoppable – even in an off night by Brunson.

It is insane to play Bridges and Hart 91 minutes when they have to play in 24 hours vs the Nyets in the 13th game of the season.

The minute distribution is Thibs publicly telling Leon he sucks at his job, which was to stock the bench with playable players.

The Knicks assists totals is pretty crazy in a good way. Not used to watching a Knicks team that could finish in the top 10 in asts especially without having an elite assist guy.

Josh Hart is having himself quite a season. Was still playing his ass off at the end despite having logged 46 minutes.

The two guys with Thibs approved backups played reasonable minutes the other three did not. Hopefully Dadiet playing some good defense eventually gets him added to the circle of playability

I’ll reiterate that all our would be backups are injured: Deuce, Mitch, Precious, and Shamet.

Hopefully Deuce is feeling better tomorrow. If he’s back the wing minutes should drop precipitously.

The Knicks assists totals is pretty crazy in a good way.

Yes indeed. The Knicks offense is (dare we say?) attractive at times. Hahaha.

I mean, you guys gotta pick a lane, it’s a meaningless game in November but some of you were having a meltdown about almost not beating this same opponent a couple of days ago and starting slow this time in the 4th. If it was meaningless then a potential loss shouldn’t matter this much.

I’m just tired of hearing about minutes, injuries are just a reality of today’s NBA, you have guys carefully load managed who get injured anyway, half the league is injured, humans beings aren’t supposed to be even playing a game at this level of intensity.

The Nets are probably going to trade half their squad but if they don’t they’ll just be a normal bad team

Nice headline:

Julius Randle drops defender to hit winning buzzer-beater for Wolves

Also, I guess Donte is out of his funk.

I’ll reiterate that all our would be backups are injured: Deuce, Mitch, Precious, and Shamet.

Matthew Seamus Ryan would like a word.

Bruno, I’m sort of with you, I largely toot the minutes horn because it’s funny (and of course it’s funny because it’s true). However, it does get my goat just a tiny bit when all the starters play the end of a game that is well in hand after the other team empties its bench. Those last two minutes, maybe give someone else a run. It really should be four minutes, but this is Thibs, so whatever.
