“Jesus Christ Doogie there is something called ‘context’ which competent speakers of a language routinely use to disambiguate sentences!”

Or maybe just try using the names of people about whom you are posting and thereby actually be clear in your writing instead of making people guess, in case they hadn’t had time to read the entire thread up to that point. LOL 🙂

Doogie, I’m pretty resigned to your weirdness and mostly just ignore it, but when you start blaming the blog and posters for things that are clearly your fault, it’s beneath the pale.

My advice to you is to not comment unless you have time to read the entire thread. It’s rude to expect folks to dumb the conversation down for you just because (plagiarizing Judge Chamberlain Haller) you find yourself in the unique position of having other stuff to do.

    Beyond the pale…….

I’ve had time to read today’s entire thread. Thanks for the great advice, Z-man! :-S

Daily reminder not to feed the grammar troll. As soon as you engage him he’ll recharge his energy.

I don’t even post daily, so a daily reminder about anything having to do with me seems as if it might be a little bit excessive.

It’s good to be in agreement, and very nice to have so many great Knickerblogger forum friends to discuss the Knicks with! Now about trading Randle…….

Interesting KFS post on expansion today. Macri muses on the players that teams would leave unprotected if the expansion draft was held today. He pointed out that for teams like the Knicks the choice of a protected 8 would be relatively easy today, but for some teams like OKC and Indiana it would be very challenging.

Haha, I skimmed over the part of the press release that said Brunson is the first team captain since… [wait for it]…

    Lance Thomas.

Randle’s not blind, Z-man. Beyond that, Katz and others have pointed out how Randle seemed to get religion post-OG trade, and completely buy into that version of the team — a version where Brunson was clearly The Guy.

I recall Raymond Felton sharing co-captain duties with Stoudemire, so we haven’t exactly been Yankees-level selective.

    Lance Thomas.

Also Courtney Lee, right? If (that search engine monopoly) Google is to be trusted.

I love this for Brunson, though. Seems a bit more “serious.”

Alan, I get it, but “passed over” sauce is strong, even when the move is logical and deserved. We’ve seen Randle react when he is hyped up and his teammates try to tell him what to do. Saying the right things is different than feeling the right things in heated moments. Randle will inevitably do stupid, selfish shit on the court that costs games, and from time to time, so will Brunson, DDV, Hart, Bridges, and OG.

More generally, I truly wonder whether the Villanova thing will have some side effects in the locker room over the long run. It is an unprecedented model of team-building, so there’s not really a way to tell. Randle is an excellent test case.

I don’t think the Nova core is as sacred as many seem to think.

Alan made a good point yesterday about Leon and relationships and I agree with him. But I don’t think a minimum of two years with all four of them together is required.

The core of this team, IMO, is Brunson-Bridges-OG-Randle. I think the Nova core gets one full year together. But if the small lineups don’t work in the playoffs, trading Donte and/or Hart for a center is on the table as early as next summer. They’re both too good for bench roles. It doesn’t make sense to have both of them

And I’m going to put this out there again: I think trading for Isaiah Hartenstein is something that could seriously happen next year. I don’t think the Thunder are in love with him. It was just smart asset management on their part to use the cap space they had on him. It’s very conceivable that he’s not part of their best lineup. A Josh Hart for Isaiah Hartenstein trade would make a lot of sense.

(Of course it doesn’t work under the cap like that and needs to be expanded but it could be worked out.)

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5683827/2024/08/06/lauri-markkanen-jazz-extension/

All-Star forward Lauri Markkanen has been the NBA’s most desired trade candidate this offseason, but he isn’t going anywhere.

Markkanen and the Utah Jazz are expected to agree to a massive, long-term contract extension, planned to be signed Wednesday or later, making him ineligible to be traded for the entire 2024-25 season, league sources tell The Athletic.

Well, in theory that means the rest of the league can start making trades again.

Also, here’s the full list of captains:

    @NBA_NewYork
    List of Knicks team captains:

    Jalen Brunson
    Lance Thomas
    Courtney Lee
    Carmelo Anthony
    Amar’e Stoudemire
    Raymond Felton
    David Lee
    Chris Duhon
    Eddy Curry
    Malik Rose
    Steve Francis
    Jamal Crawford
    Kurt Thomas
    Stephon Marbury
    Allan Houston
    Larry Johnson
    Herb Williams
    Derek Harper
    Charles Oakley
    Mark Jackson
    Patrick Ewing
    Bill Cartwright
    Rory Sparrow
    Louis Orr
    Bernard King
    Maurice Lucas
    Ray Williams
    Earl Monroe
    Walt Frazier
    Willis Reed
    Willie Naulls
    Carl Braun
    Vince Boryla
    Dick McGuire
    Bud Palmer
    Ossie Schechtman

Some of these are prestigious Knicks, and some are… Rory Sparrow and Steve Francis.

They’re both too good for bench roles. It doesn’t make sense to have both of them

I hear you. But, again, it’s the relationships thing. One of the Knick beat writers told me a while back that Josh Hart very badly wants to go into broadcasting when he retires, and views staying with the Knicks for the rest of his career a key part of that plan. So he might be more eager to stay here and get bench minutes than go to a smaller market where he can play more, and then Leon has made one of his players very unhappy.

Again, you can’t run a team where you’re trying to appease all of your players about everything. But Leon has clearly made maintaining relationships the most important part of his team-building philosophy. So it will be tricky if/when he decides to trade one of the Nova guys.

There’s a real case to be made that both Josh and Donte could play themselves into bigger roles on other teams. When that happens if they need to go I think the way forward is navigable in terms of narrative. They gotta get some reps together first.

Wemby just stripped RJ, drove into the lane, and made a smooth pass to OAKAAK (in terms of draft rights) Mathias Lessort

I don’t think there is any chance whatsoever that the Knicks trade any of the 4 Nova boys prior to the 2026 offseason.

I also don’t think there is any chance whatsoever that iHart plays for the Knicks during the next 2 years, and only a slightly less than zero chance that he ever plays for this team again.

I do wonder if Leon will lowball Randle for a variety of reasons (him coming off a serious injury being one of them).

I’d like to keep Randle, but having him play out the year and test the market isn’t the worst risk in the world, particularly because, worst case scenario, if he bolts, we’d still have a starting lineup (OG at PF, Mikal at SF, and Donte back at SG) that is arguably just as good.

But hardball isn’t really Leon’s M.O., and I think his ultimate goal is to make Randle happy with an extension.

    Fournierr!!!

Dougie — please google this to check I have spelled correctly.

Fournier just hit one of the wilder shots you’ll ever see. The OAKAAK (if you count draft rights) energy is strong.

“Fournierr!!! Dougie — please google this to check I have spelled correctly.”

It’s “Doogie,” not “Dougie,” but no……..you absolutely did not spell Evan Fournier’s last name correctly. It only has one letter “r” at the end of it. But you already knew that (just as you already knew how to correctly spell my user name on here), and neither one of us would have to Google (uppercased “G” on “Google”) it to know that. 🙂

I hear you. But, again, it’s the relationships thing.

Seems like you’re describing a pretty selective relationships thing, though. What’s it going to do to his relationship with Randle, for instance, if he asks him to take less money bc he won’t trade any of the Nova guys?

Also I just think there’s a higher level of maturity and understanding in all four of those guys than they’re being given credit for. If one of them has to be traded for the good of the team, I don’t think it would ruin Leon’s relationship with any of them, including whoever got sent away.

It just can’t be heartless. Salary dumping Josh Hart to avoid the 2nd apron is the kind of thing that relationships would preclude from ever happening.

But it becomes abundantly clear in the playoffs that our small lineups don’t work, and a center who everyone thinks is the missing piece is available, you have to put your seventh man (either Josh or Donte) on the table. If you don’t, you’re fucking up your relationship with everyone else on the team, not to mention the fans.

“Iocaine powder, I’d bet my life on it.”

That’s kind of sad. I don’t even know what iocaine powder is (based on your previous postings, there is at least a 50 percent chance that it might actually be fictitious), but to bet your life on any kind of powder does not inspire confidence as to how much you value your life. You should value it more, and I hope that you can find a way to learn to see that. Best of luck, Clarence Beeks.

    “Thanks dibble”

It’s actually “Doogie,” but you already knew that. I’m glad to see that you seem to be feeling better! It feels good to be able to help fellow posters to a forum about my favorite NBA team for the past 45 years, the New York Knicks! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Kind of an embarrassing olympics for the canadian basketball team. If I was a Nuggets fan I would be terrified by Olympic Murray

“Oh shit, sorrry drioogiw, my autocorrect must be malfunctioning.”

No problem, Clarence Beeks. I totally understand that sometimes technology goes awry and can make our lives a little tougher here and there. Just this morning, I had to rush out and make an unplanned trip to a store nearby in order to get a new wireless mouse, as the one I’d been using suddenly gave out. All good now, though! 🙂

Well about to take off. Good luck with all that. I haven’t used a mouse in years. I did shack up with a furry mouse once, Doozle, but that is definitely another story for another forim.

“Well about to take off. Good luck with all that. I haven’t used a mouse in years. I did shack up with a furry mouse once, Doozle, but that is definitely another story for another forim.”

All is good with the new mouse! Thanks, Clarence Beeks. And I know that your autocorrect is (selectively) malfunctioning, but it’s “Doogie” and “forum,” not “Doozle” and “forim.” 🙂 I do vehemently suggest not “shacking up” with other species, though. It’s a good way to get deathly sick, unless of course that is your goal. Oh, no! I just realized that you’d bet your life on a (fictitious?) powder! Are you feeling sad again? 🙁

Now back to the prospects of trading members of our core, whether or not you think that core includes Randle, and how you feel about these prospects. I’m not sure that I would include Randle as part of our core anymore, but it might depend on how he plays for the first 20 games or so.

Trying to decide if Z-Man and Hubert throwing drunken firebombs at each other all evening or the Clarence and Doogie romance is more annoying.

    Can it be a tie?

I don’t really like Clarence Beeks all that much, to be honest, but he and I have made peace with that and have decided to cease and desist on our previous postings (I’m not sure he’s still doing it, though, as he has gone back to pretending that he doesn’t know how to spell my user name and other things that he clearly *does* know how to spell). I’m just being civil for the overall sake of the forum. I really do hope that he’s not sad, though, and that he can learn to value his life to be more than a (fictitious?) powder.

Well at least it’s not Z–Man anymore. That double-hyphen was killing me.

Which was changed by the internet gods into an n dash. I give up.

    “It’s Z-man, not Z-Man.”

That’s totally fair. I’m glad to see that I was not the one to have committed that error.

If you actually cared about the overall sake of the forum you’d either shut the fuck up or leave since no one likes you.

That’s abjectly false—it is through no fault of my own that you do not read every single post every single day, as it has been suggested that I do before posting here, so apparently you have no right to post anything since you are not doing that, either. Anyway, there have been multiple people who have said that they enjoy my presence here. How am I supposed to participate in the forum if I simply “shut the fuck up”? It’s difficult to discuss the Knicks (as I’ve attempted to do several times over the past several days) if I’m not posting anything. That makes zero sense, ThisChicanery. 🙂

“If you actually cared about the overall sake of the forum you’d either shut the fuck up or leave since no one likes you.”

I remind you that I was actually *requested* to post to this thread today by GoldClub. Prior to this request, I had not posted anything for the prior 4 hours and 37 minutes.

    “GoldClub says:

See? People here *do* like me! 🙂

Now, about potential Randle trades. What do you guys think?

See? People here *do* like me! 🙂

    …now you’re doing Sally Field impressions….noiiice!

I think Brunson is a deserving captain. May he lead us to the promise land like The Captain did. 🧡💙
And i think Randle is ok with this, because as Alan keeps saying, Leon always tries to keep everybody happy, so i think we wouldn’t be naming Brunson as our captain if Randle was against it.

Hmm, I know I only started posting recently, but is it too late to choose an endearing/annoying posting quirk of my own?

In any event, here’s a random Knicks-adjacent q on my mind today:

What do you think the rest of Quentin Grimes’ career looks like?

I was bummed when he was traded, but I thought it was a fair move at the time (even though it didn’t really pan out). I still think it was very weird how quickly he seemed to fall out of the circle of trust. Did the Knicks overreact to a prolonged slump or did they correctly cash in before his value dipped further?

I still think he’ll be the better-than-average-but-not-quite-an-all-star 3&D wing that he showed flashes of his sophomore year, but then again, I always thought Shump would break out too…

    “GoldClub says:

See? People here *do* like me! 🙂

If you had Googled “Fournier” you’d know that GoldClub doesn’t like you, Doogs

I had no reason to Google “Fournier” because I already knew how to spell it (as did GoldClub). But I also happen to know from several years ago what one finds if they *do* Google “Fournier.” What is found there has literally nothing to do with whether GoldClub likes me or not, and to insinuate otherwise is kind of dumb, as GoldClub undoubtedly surmised that I was not going to Google it. 🙂

“I had no reason to Google “Fournier” because I already knew how to spell it (as did GoldClub). And he was correct in surmising that, too. GoldClub seems like a relatively intelligent dude.

“Hmm, I know I only started posting recently, but is it too late to choose an endearing/annoying posting quirk of my own?”

What would you like to choose, Mortimer?

Seventeen out of 60 posts here today were made by the troll and all 17 are garbage.

    Ban please.

Oh fine, Mortimer, choose the endearing/annoying posting quirk of asking interesting and complicated questions with no obvious clear answer so people will have multiple different takes on it. As if you want the thread to get all basketball or something.

I’m not sure how trying to ask (multiple times) about prospective Randle (or other core player) trades is trolling, or how talking Clarence Beeks off the ledge is trolling, or how responding when GoldClub asked me a direct question is trolling, or how interacting nicely with Mortimer is trolling. JK47 is trolling right now.

The other day someone mentioned a proposed trade between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks, and I tried a few times to find out more information about that. Is that somehow trolling now, too?

What do you think the rest of Quentin Grimes’ career looks like?

I was bummed when he was traded, but I thought it was a fair move at the time (even though it didn’t really pan out). I still think it was very weird how quickly he seemed to fall out of the circle of trust.

The dude played 48 minutes, got the shit kicked out of him on an illegal screen, and made a heroic defensive stand on one leg. Say what you will about his current value, but QG has earned lifetime kudos from me

I liked Grimes when he was on our squad, but I can’t say that I really miss him now that he’s gone. I think we have a great team, and only wish that Hartenstein had stayed around to see it through. I think we’ll miss him much more than we’ll miss Grimes, especially with the deveopment of Deuce.

“And he was correct in surmising that, too. GoldClub seems like a relatively intelligent dude.”

    Aw-shucks.

Grimes is looking like your usual NBA journeyman type at this point. He’s injury-prone and is more D than 3, but he’ll be in the league as the 9th guy for years to come, I imagine. Maybe he has a Courtney Lee contract year and secures a bag; I wouldn’t put money on that, though.

Grimes needs to be healthy. Rooting for the guy. Life is pretty good set to Blue Danube.

“Life is pretty good set to Blue Danube.”

I’m really glad that you seem happy again, Clarence Beeks!!! 🙂 What does this mean, though? I mean, of course I know “Blue Danube.” I’m just not certain how your life is set to it.

Of course, nothing against Grimes, but it’s not like I’m worried about him becoming a star or something for his post-Knicks team, like I was a little bit about Quickley (but not RJ).

The tune is great Cyber. Thanks for sharing. I had the pleasure of seeing Karen O right up front with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a couple decades ago and still have a crush. That show was great… McCarren pool…. Sonic Youth opened.

I was at that show, as well! Went two nights in a row, IIRC.

Karen O was a spell caster, for sure. But the queen of that era imho was Amanda Tannen, the bassist for stellastarr*.
