Thibs being a minutes lunatic aside, nice to see us take care of business against a non-team.
Officially, Clyde never attempted “Mamadi Diakiti.” Breen handled every play he was involved in.
That was a near-complete pleasure to watch. The NBA equivalent of zoloft.
Pretty sure he avoided TOSAN
EVBUOMWAN, too, to answer Owen’s question. (As did I by using copy paste, hence the all caps; that’s not me shouting his name at y’all.)
From that Guardian piece linked above:

I woke up to that video, Cyber. It is horrifying and sad.
We had actually just talked about doing an impromptu road trip down to the Baltimore/DC area this weekend or next week. And above and beyond whatever logistical headaches might be involved in going to the area now, there’s the idea of not wanting everyone in the car to feel scared — even though this was a one in a million accident, rather than a structural problem.
The Raptors have a top 6 protected pick and they are currently the 6th worst team in the NBA. The team they’ve been putting on the court lately isn’t that much better than the Pistons.
The Spurs aren’t a total pushover as last night shows, but they are a 16 win team. This should be a relatively easy week for the team, albeit one in which 60% of the starters average over 40 mins/game.
Brunson & iHart are being managed noticeably well and should be fresh for the postseason
I think Haliburton’s shot is back. That makes the Pacers a much scarier 1st round opponent if that’s what happens.
brunson and the stacey Q two are in the top 20 in net rating for all three-man lineups with at least 700 minutes this year. specifically, they are number one.
A fully healthy Clips team shits the bed with back to back home losses to Sixers and Pacers.
Every time I think they could be a serious problem in the playoffs they remind me that James Harden is on the roster.
Sometimes I wonder if the medical team is restricting Hartenstein’s minutes or the accounting department.
Oh no, Redick is going to “help” Hart with his shooting next summer the way he “helped” Grimes with his last summer.
“A fully healthy Clips team shits the bed with back to back home losses to Sixers and Pacers.

It feels like there is a changing of the guard taking place…the megastars of the 2010’s are sort of phasing out..PG13, Kawhi, Harden, Russ, LeBron, Steph, Durant, CP3, Kyrie, Dame, Jimmy…if any of them are contenders this year, might it be their last hurrah?
“Oh no, Redick is going to “help” Hart with his shooting next summer the way he “helped” Grimes with his last summer.”
Like Wilt once said about his experiences with a FT guru, after a week, Hart won’t be any better and Redick’s shot will be all messed up…
Ha, Z-man!
I guess the difference in this case is that Grimes had a good shot already, whereas Hart’s is pretty bad outside of his occasional hot streaks. So at least JJ can’t make it worse, right?
(Arrested Development narrator: he could make it worse.)
“brunson and the stacey Q two are in the top 20 in net rating for all three-man lineups with at least 700 minutes this year. specifically, they are number one.”
Who constitutes “the stacey Q two”? That’s something I haven’t seen on here (or anywhere) prior to just now. Googling it just yielded a 65-year-old female pop singer that I’ve never heard of before. 🙂
Obviously, DaQuan Jeffries and Deuce McBride (but no, it’s not actually them)
No, but that’s plenty clever, EBW.
Kevin Knox didn’t make the US Olympic 3-on-3 team.

Yeah, now that you sent that particular video, I guess I remember the song. It certainly wasn’t a good one, not even in ’88.
Not sure what you mean by “nice try,” though. I’m not trying anything. I just didn’t know who you were referring to on the Knicks with “the stacey Q two.” I still don’t know. Again, I’ve never heard of any of our players being referenced that way. 🙂
Stacey Q has got to be the result of spell correct, but I can’t figure out what the intended text was.

Have to applaud the DDV and Deuce development. Does coaching staff deserve the credit for developing youngsters?
Even the 4 kids we traded away this year seem to have been developed and maximized by Thibs coaching staff and, holistically as a group, performed better in NY than in Indiana, Toronto and Detroit.
I guess that’s possible. LOL
The only NBA player I remember who was named “Stacey” was Stacey King (mostly of the Chicago Bulls), who for a little while was not horrible.
The song is called “Two hearts”… i wonder who are the players Milo is talking about… do we have two h(e)arts on the team? 😀
Nice, cyber; great call! How about “Hart to Hart” with Stefanie Powers and Robert Wagner? 🙂
Incredibly this is the second time someone has sent Doogie a Club MTV youtube link to explain what’s going on.
100 points for obscurity, Milo, but if I’m Hart & Hart(enstein), Phil’s Two Hearts is my entrance song.
I think Thibs deserves massive credit for the development of Deuce.
Donte is more of a Leon Rose masterstroke, IMO. I think most of Donte’s development occurred at Golden State.
One of my biggest criticisms of Leon was that no one ever captures surplus value using the MLE. Well he sure did, and it went a long way to negating the impact of his draft mistakes.
I’d say Leon has fully corrected two major blunders of his tenure:
Blunder: not drafting Tyrese Halliburton
Correction: signing Jalen Brunson
Blunder: trading out of the 2022 lottery
Correction: signing Donte DiVincenzo
The Jalen Johnson blunder has been partially corrected with the acquisition of OG Anunoby. But it created a hole at backup PG that we wouldn’t have otherwise had, so he has to fix that before I give him credit for a full correction.
“I think Thibs deserves massive credit for the development of Deuce.”
I do think Thibs helped, but to my mind Deuce’s development goes mostly to Deuce, and to Brunson. If you watch Deuce, much of what he does emulates Brunson — especially his new pull-up mid-range and moves in the paint. I don’t know if Brunson helped him with it or if Deuce just watched and copied, but some of the moves are eerily similar. And I think Deuce just put in the work.
I do give Thibs credit for seeing two diamonds in the rough and giving them the playing time that’s allowed them to prosper. Of course, having half the team go down helped…
Don’t forget Stacey “Plastic Man” Augmon.
Has anyone ever seen E and Berman in a room at the same time?
For sure the majority of a player’s development goes rightly to the guy who put in the hours of DIRECTED practice.
However, it is pretty clear Thibs was smitten with Deuces defensive possibilities (even if it was mostly limited to 30 second spurts at the end of the half or game last year). He must have seen his shot developing in practice and his crushing offensive potential during his G/league games.
The obvious tip off to Thibs bromance with Deuce was shown how they already had a 3 year contract worked out the second they got off IQ and Barrett.
I think I need to conjure up Jean-François Champollion from the dead to decipher this nonsensical word salad…
This does not matter at all because the sample is tiny, but since we’ve gotten so many Brunson/Deuce minutes lately, and because the result supports my Deuce-as-baby-OG narrative, I wanted to check anyway:
In 247 minutes, lineups with both have a +14 net rating (125 offensive, 111 defensive).
Will be interesting to see if this can hold up against better competition, but it’s been a blast to watch. With Deuce’s emergence, it almost feels like we got a new good player for free. Now if we could just get various elbows and shoulders into place…
shohei sounded pretty convincing while speaking…
hopefully things follow along with his account…
As much as I love Deuce and believe in his improvement arc, there is still not enough data to determine how “real” his numbers are. It takes a few trips around the NBA in extend minutes for teams to game plan against a given player. For example, I don’t think the Warriors would defend Deuce the same way next time they see him, even if he is in a smaller role. But regardless, it’s great to see him doing what he’s doing with the opportunity he has been given.
I vagely remember Leon letting Thibs make the Deuce and Grimes picks after trading down and out of the first round of the infamous 2021 draft.
Maybe Leon should let Thibs make the two 2nd round picks we have this summer, – after he incinerates both of our 1st rounders again. Rinse. Repeat.
If the season ended today we’d once again have the 19th & 21st picks.
I hope Thibs likes Tyler Kolek bc I’m in love.
RJ, IQ & Scottie all out tomorrow, nobody wants the smoke anymore
The tankathon is on! Yet they have a 54% chance of giving the Spurs the 7th pick at their current position.
They’ve also “passed” Memphis in the standings. Looks like Memphis is blowing their Duncan/Robinson opportunity and I don’t mean the shooter on the Heat
From Katz today:
😍
Monty Williams doesn’t care…
howdy E, I hope all is okay in the world for you…
you’ve been a bit quiet lately – how goes all?
Surely dear old Bob has retuned from Elba.
But is he worth the MLE?
This has really been a season of “Never mind” on a wide variety of takes. Donte’s pointlessly redundant, Josh ‘Triple Double Magnate’ Hart is no good, Deuce is an end-of-bench scrub who can’t shoot, Precious totally sucks, we’re going to really struggle with iHart in the middle, and oh yeah, Burks and Bogey will fill the shooting hole that we have. As well as “X will break out now that he’s out from under Thibs” (more like just break).
A few are still stubbornly clung too, a few might turn out to be right with the inevitable march of time. But damn, at this moment in time it’s quite impressive how many people (me included) have been wrong so far.
Here’s a question someone here might be able to figure out the answer to: how many times in the past has an NBA team had three rotation players who all played together on the same college team? Chris Webber and Juwan Howard were on the Bullets/Wizards at the same time, but Jalen Rose never was. It must have happened before, though, right? I’m not counting an Archie situation, where another college teammate is technically on the roster but doesn’t play.
Rick Pitino had a lot of his former Kentucky players when he coached the Celtics. They drafted Antoine Walker and Ron Mercer in back-to-back years, acquired Walter McCarty from us, eventually added Tony Delk later on.
Mercer and McCarty were pretty insignificant, though.
The Wizards had a bunch of Maryland guys at one point, I don’t remember if they played much.
I figured there would be a Kentucky example, Hubert. Thanks.
Can we go back to the part where I figured out Brunson Peroneus is Bob Neptune?
bless you hubie – the name bob neptune has been escaping me for 2 days now…
it was the use of the word “sheeple” in a post that made me start to wonder and remember the old feisty “conversative minded” fellow from florida…
hopefully like pags though – people grow and mature, even at 70 something…
dude…that’s bob neptune…whoulda thunk it..
tyus jones, winslow and grayson allen from the 15 duke team all played for the grizz one year
I have no idea what the hell: “conversative” minded even means…was trying to type conservative…oh well…
spell check just doesn’t feel like my friend lately…
good to have you back bob…
I like redemption stories…feels like that’s something we all can gain from…
chance for us all to live, learn and grow…
I guess she’s not signing with the Knicks this off season
As Donnie Walsh recently declared: the Ban Hammer is a tool of reform, not retribution.
Just realized that there is no way we can rationally expect to resign Hartenstein this summer?
Any 3.0 BPM super durable 25yr old who is ranked by EPM as the third best center in the league after Jokiq and Embiid, – should not be signing for $16m aav, – which is the most we can pay him.
On the defensive side, he’s ranked #2 in the whole league in dEPM and #4 in dBPM.
Now that he has his bounce back and JB is passing him the ball on PnR, iHart is primed for a very succesful playoff run. He’s going to get offers in the $25m AAV range.
If the Knicks signed a center who has chronic leg problems and averaged 7 points a game to a 4/100 contract people here would lose their minds
He’s not “super durable”, though.
I think the only threat for iHart is OKC. If Presti (who will have over $40mm in cap space this summer) thinks he’s a good fit, he could justify a 3 year/$75mm deal bc they are only paying Chet & Jalen $16mm total. Other teams with cap space like Detroit & San Antonio already have centers.
If we don’t sign that center I’m going to lose my mind. He’s been our second or third best player for most of the season.
I do agree he’s gone pretty much no matter what we do. OKC will throw him a Godfather offer and that’ll be it.
Okay, this is an error that actually bothers me: “resign” vs “re-sign”.
It’s gotta be the most common unintentional mistake here and can cause legitimate confusion in certain cases, like if someone posts “Thibs resigns”, it has the opposite meaning from “Thibs re-signs”. Pretty much everyone does it too, not trying to pick on you Director, more of a PSA because I think people do it unintentionally.
Substantively, I don’t think we should be able to re-sign him. On the other hand, teams can be really stupid. Also, generating value from rebounding/passing/defense doesn’t pay as well as scoring whether or not that’s smart. This is also year 2 of Achilles tendon problems, which may deflate his price.
OKC might prefer Chet at C, but he’d still give them flexibility and could be a hell of a backup 5 as we well know.
“Pretty much everyone does it too, not trying to pick on you Director, more of a PSA because I think people do it unintentionally.”
Does that mean that we can pick on people if they write things incorrectly very intentionally? Asking for a friend. 🙂
There’s no indication they want to do this, though. It’s what I would do if I were them but Presti probably has other ideas
I’m not sure OKC is a market I-Hart is going to want to go to. I remember reading something about his wife wanting to live in either NYC or LA. She’s a model. If she’s willing to toss her career aside and raise their new baby to come in OKC, it might be fine, but I’m betting he stays in NY and Mitch gets traded.
No, Doogie, because that’s called humor. Infantile perhaps, not your cup of tea certainly, but it’s a flagship of this site and therefore must be sacrosanct.
Sorry.
KnickerBlogger
Knicks, Stats, Humor, Analysis.
That’s what the money is for.
Are we at the point where we can safely root for DAL to lose without worrying about them being in the bottom 10? It seems pretty safe, but even if they are in the play-in some weird shit can happen, right?
Ok but I don’t think her model aspirations are worth the $10m a year more that some other team can and will offer, whether it’s OKC or not.
Even if we waive every non-guaranteed salary we’ll have 90m locked in, which goes up to about 125m when we pay OG. This leaves less than 20m for iHart and he’s probably worth close to OG’s value. He’s gone.
I will dress up as Kourtney Keller without a baby if they go to OKC….
Although honestly, years 0-3 you might as well be in OKC as a parent….
Not sure they want Chet chasing 4’s everywhere. OKC need a Giddey upgrade most of all.
They can easily afford that as well as iHart.
Yeah, this is where I am. I think OKC knows that Chet at the 5 will give them a great advantage, especially given SGA’s style. Giddey is their weak link and where they need to upgrade (I am not sure why they didn’t throw picks at Toronto for OG, he would be perfect there. I suppose they could offer OG 45m but I am confident in the CAA connection).
The Knicks could be a good situation for I-Hart in the end, where he doesn’t have to play huge minutes, and he’d have a wink wink agreement that they would give him a nice raise once bird rights kick in.
We’ll see what they offer.
When you are already wealthy the value of incremental dollars is lower than when you are aren’t.
I know it doesn’t always seem that way based on the behavior of many athletes and business people, but there’s more to life than going from wealthy to even more wealthy.
I’m betting on LA or NYC for the model and I-Hart wanting to keep his wife happy more than he wants to earn the extra millions. I know I could easily be very wrong on this one.
OKC has so many picks they can draft three of whatever they need and hope one of them works. 😉
That’s what I hope they think. To be clear: I am afraid OKC will pursue iHart. I don’t necessarily think that they will.
It’s an offseason problem. Who knows, OKC could win the title this year.
Being a little apocryphal this evening, aren’t we?
Which is why, between the iHart FA and Mitch injury issues, I think we’ll draft a center in the first round this year. Too bad Donovan Clingan is moving out of our range. He has been beasting lately.
For sure, but hypothetically, there are a few things working against OKC making a big move for I Hart:
They already have a floor spacing/rimprotecting center who is already what we hoped Porzingis would be years ago. Chet has played 100% of his minutes at the 5 this year.
Jalen Williams has played 83% of his minutes at the 4 this season and to accommodate I Hart they have to displace two young star players.
They already have one super star and two real young stars in the making. They are small market OKC who already had blow up one championship caliber team because they couldn’t afford it. They don’t need I Hart on the books for the long term in 2 years when both Chet and Williams will get the “fun max” while shai will be on the super max. They have financial constraints.
Which is why… since they have something like 16 firsts and 19 seconds through 2030, they should package a bunch of them for a great player on a short contract whose team is sunk for the future, struggling to make the play in a paying 100s of millions in luxury taxes, Mr Steph Curry…..
the point isn’t OKC – it’s that isaiah could very well be valued above the 16 million we may offer him…
again, the first thought that came to mind for me was Jarrett Allen and the 20 million a year he got from the cavs…
if there is a missus Allen, I’m sure she wasn’t voting on a move to Cleveland…
I like numbers, and guesses at them…
I’ve asked before, I’ll ask again – what is isaiah worth contract wise?
hubie threw our 25 million per, based on his play this year- that does not sound too crazy…
I get it’s out of line with his past salary history, plus there may be some health issues related to his achilles…
but yeah, as a couple of folks have pointed out – statistically isaiah is playing very well this year…with this opportunity to start…
Edit: sorry BPL, maybe the point for you was the OKC aspect 😊
I would not have guessed it at the beginning of the season, but, isaiah’s been key to our success…
IIRC Katz determined that the Knicks can give iHart a 175% raise on his salary with the playoff incentive, meaning we can give him something in the ballpark of 4/$72M.
I am very cautiously optimistic that gets it done, since Chet will likely be a 30+ MPG player at center for the foreseeable future.
Low confidence in that, though. It only takes one.
Idk, Zubac had pretty similar per-36 stats and makes a shade under 12 mil a year. Obviously iHart is a better defender and 2 years younger, but 15 mil AAV seems about right. And I honestly don’t think OKC needs a backup center who costs more than that.
This isn’t Thunderblogger so I won’t belabor my point but I don’t think Jalen Williams at the 4 and Chet at the 5 is the best way to go about things in the playoffs when the league is going big and your main rivals in the west are Denver and Minnesota.
That’s why I keep saying 3 years, $75mm.
It’s $7mm/year more than we can offer him and it’s more money in three years than we can offer in 4. Plus he can hit free agency again a year earlier.
Make it a descending contract and in two years when Chet and Jalen are up he wouldn’t be a burden at all.
But like I said, this is for the Thunder fans to discuss.
25 million for a non-shooting center who might not be able to play 32 minutes a night for a full season is going to be a big ask for teams
Yes but that’s the kind of luxury OKC can afford when their big three makes less than $50mm combined.
I would do it if I were Presti.
They can for the next 2 years… after that, no bueno with their substantially limited revenue stream.
I think isaiah is at least comparable to Jarrett Allen (full disclosure: too lazy minded and weak willed to put the effort in to check their stats) in terms of impact…
that deal worked out well for Cleveland…my thought has been that he would help Orlando a lot…
I’ve lived in Orlando before, it’s not that bad…
was just telling someone about the spectacular lightening shows that go on all the time…it’s a pretty wild and frequent thing…
actually, I’ve also lived outside of OKC…barren, not particularly attractive landscape…if that kind of stuff matters to you…
I will say, at least with the folks I ran in to, very friendly…
The important thing is that OKC is really the only team in the league that could conceivably make a run for him at a number higher than ours. So that makes the likelihood of him re-signing very high.
Heat are tanking to finish in the play in so they can play Milwaukee or Boston in the 1st rd.
But that’s the thing, there just aren’t that many teams with cap space which need a non-shooting center (of course, other teams could open cap space, but is overpaying to get I-Hart away from the Knicks something you would do cap gymnastics for?).
Here are the teams with cap space (in descending order of space):
Pistons – they seem committed to Duren
Philly – Embiid
Utah – I think they are fine with Kessler, but I could sort of see it (but then Ms. Hartenstein might have a say)
OKC – Chet
Spurs – Wemby
Orlando – I think they are pretty set at C and probably want more shooting
Charlotte – tanking, only 12m in cap space this summer.
Geo, for the record Jarrett Allen is in a committed relationship with Jordyn January, who despite the name looks like an absolute sweetheart and is a registered nurse at a children’s medical center. She works and I assume lives in Austin. I presume he does too, in the off-season.
Good Bucks game.
I can’t believe no one mentioned the Celtics blew a thirty point lead last night. Pure joy hearing that.
dillon brooks’ contract seemed like a big stretch for houston, that and other moves they’ve made is working out though…
hopefully 18 million (with state tax), gets it done…
okay, i looked at jarrett’s and isaiah’s stats, i’ll just say – dang jarrett is a really good player…
isaiah would be replacing wendell in orlando, that would be an upgrade for them…
i could definitely sell isaiah and the missus on coming to the magic (no state tax) kingdom…
just don’t tell ’em about all the lightening storms and hurricane stuff…
Overtime for Lakers @ Bucks. Lakers came storming back (27-13 in the fourth quarter) with no LeBron. AD has 29/21, DLo has 25/6/8, and Reaves has 20/11/9.
awwww…yeah, i’ve been a fan of his since he first came to the league…
sure enough he got smoked by mitch last post-season, but he’s a good player and seems like a good person/teammate…
i guess i just see isaiah being bale to have a similiar impact to what jarrett does…jarrett got paid 20 million a few seasons ago…
so, 25 million for the right team and situation don’t sound too crazy…again, dillon brooks…if you bring the kind of defensive numbers isaiah has this year – right team may pay…
or, maybe for us it’s the wrong team…
“I can’t believe no one mentioned the Celtics blew a thirty point lead last night. Pure joy hearing that.”
I believe it was mentioned…and yes, pure joy!
If Randle and OG hadn’t gotten hurt Knicks would be the 2 seed right now.
This was yesterday, but I can’t stop laughing at Jokic here:
https://x.com/HarrisonWind/status/1772437183695126648
If I were the Lakers, I would not help off Lillard on a corner in their last possession.
Everyone wants to avoid the Celtics in round 2 but I don’t want to play the Bucks, either.
Brunson will average close to 40 ppg in a playoff series vs the Bucks defense.
Double OT for Lakers@Bucks.
AD with two monster blocks in the last two Bucks possessions (they were unlucky in the first as they couldn’t recover the ball).
Deuce is disappointed at AD gassed after a mere 49 minutes.
And Giannis misses two free throws.
Reaves could play on my team any time.
Cam Reddish played 7 minutes, and did not have a field goal, free throw, rebound, assist, steal, turnover, or personal foul.
When healthy, there’s not a lot of daylight between Giannis and AD…
Looking at the West standings, there’s a real chance that the Suns will fall to the 9-10 play-in game (they have the hardest remaining schedule and only face playoff teams from now on). Imagine that team, after going all in, with no draft picks on the horizon, falling to the Warriors in the play-in.
2 seed is not out of reach
I was hoping to root against Dallas tonight, that’s not turning out so well…
From Katz’s piece today:
“After a few misses, DiVincenzo finally swished his 11th from the right wing, this time over Malachi Flynn, a short-lived teammate of his in New York who quickly and unforgettably earned the nickname “Evil Donte” because he looks like DiVincenzo with Wario-like features.”
It’s interesting that the NBA is once again okay with teams with worse records having advantages over teams with better records. It is highly likely that two eastern teams with losing records will make the play-in, while at least one western team with a winning record will be on the outside looking in.
I’d be all for a 1-20 league-wide ranking for both the 12 guaranteed slots and for the 8 teams fighting for the 4 play-in spots.
In that scenario, we’d be only 1 game out of the play-in, depending on tiebreakers.
Going to that kind of system might really spice things up!
I generally don’t like when players and teams hunt records despite the game being out of hand. But in this case, whatever.
Mavs are now the 6th seed and have a good chance to move up and be the 4th seed, it’s looking like the Knicks will end up with two picks in the 20s…
That’s why I think the consolidation trade will be for Booker. Nets should have traded Bridges, didn’t, probably wouldn’t to the Knicks anyway. But Phoenix has no future where they are. They could try next year, but that’s the end of their window, such as it is, and a smart exec would recognize it and clear house. Booker is one of the few moves I’d be in favor of.
DRed, The two seed would be phenomenal.
I don’t think it would be fair to stack all the teams together to pick seeds for the playoffs. The Eastern conference teams play must of their games against other Eastern conference teams, not the West. Likewise for the Western conference. So currently you are stacked up against those you competed with during the regular season
Booker has that big whopper megamax salary that kicks in next year. Starting next year his contract is for something like $55M AAV.
I like him a lot as a player, but how do you fit that on the books and also re-sign OG? And whither Isaiah Hartenstein in this scenario?
