2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Bulls: Time to Get Over .500!

The scheduling gods have given the Knicks a bit of a hard time tonight, having to travel back home for a back-to-back with three of their guards ailing a bit. All three of Jalen Brunson, Deuce McBride, and Cam Payne will play tonight, but I doubt any of the three are in amazing shape.

Meanwhile, the Bulls play at a really fast pace, so that could be tough for the Knicks.

Still, in the end, they’re the Bulls, they suck, so the Knicks should pull this one out and get back to over .500!

Come on, Knicks, you know Thibs still wants revenge for getting fired years ago!

Let’s go, Knicks! Getting things straight on the way to 58!

At some point we’re gonna rip off a 10 game winning streak. May it start tonight!

Since there’s a relatively fast pace and no D on either side, I suggest Kolek would enjoy.

How did OG missed that !? :O

He’s not good finishing at the basket unless he dunks. I’ve been saying that since last year. It’s an area he really has to work on. His handle is slightly improved but the finish not so much.

I thought that was Hathaway!

Someone should start playing basketball. Hopefully the Knicks.

It’s missing bunnies season again?

Zero fire and hunger so far, our guys are playing a rec game and the Bulls are happy, as soon as we wake up this game is over

Can’t imagine us winning this on a SeGaBaBa. This team’s record will probably go like the score in the games we’ve lost — constantly a little behind parity until it’s too late to catch up.

Here’s hoping Brunson stops playing like the 15th best starting PG in the league and Bridges doesn’t get torched all night by Coby White or whoever.

I think Wally has the cro-magnon forehead. Matt has a cro-magnon chin.

That was a quarter to forget. Let’s forget it, and maybe win the second?

Matt Ryan’s BRef page says he’s made 91 NBA shots, crazy what they’re doing with the fake news these days

Sleepy quarter, they’re not paying attention, dumb shot after dumb turnover after dumb defense

Thibs will tear them a new one at halftime and things will change

I think Buzelis was born/raised in Chicago, no?

Ok, thanks. Given his name, i thought he was european.

Yes, Buzelis is an American born player, raised in Chicago.
He’s from lithuanian heritage like are old pal Iggy Brazdeikis (who is canadian and now play in Lithuania).

At some point we’re gonna rip off a 10 game winning streak. May it start tonight!

Oof
maybe a 10 game losing streak?

Ok I’ve gotta turn this shit off.

For a moment, i thought you were Pags. 😛 😀

maybe we can get one of these vets to drive a tank onto the court and cancel the game (giving the knicks a day to rest)

Also TJ Warren > Matt Ryan. I guess I have to give him time to see what the front office likes so much.

Weird:
Before tonight Jalen Brunson was shooting 21% 3FG and 73% FT at home against 44% 3FG and 87% FT on the road.

This is the worst game I’ve watched this year.

Also, why is there always one player from the opposing team every game who cannot miss/turns into a prime Jordan/Curry hybrid?

why is there always one player every game who literally cannot miss

The visible fifth man kills us every game.

Also TJ Warren > Matt Ryan. I guess I have to give him time to see what the front office likes so much.

Maybe they were trying to copy Boston by flooding the bench with shooting, helps if they’re also good basketball players though

16 points on 14 shots, when no-one else in the team has had more than 7? hmm

Missing everything it seems. We just look lost. Tired. Deflated. I feel for Thibs and the coaching staff. One one hand you need to give the starters time to gel, but they’re gassed. So you want to give the bench some burn and see if they can find their groove. But the bench is depleted and full of rookies. So you stick with your starters. But they’re spent and the losses pile up. Literal definition of a no win situation.

What’s the point of Dadiet? Send him down to the G League. He isn’t going to get any reps on the main roster.

I believe there wasn’t a choice between Warren and Ryan, because Warren’s service time rendered his minimum too high to sign both him and Shamet while Ryan’s didn’t.

Anywho that sucked and I would’ve guessed we had way more TOs than what the box score says. We look soft. I can’t complain about the FT disparity because we do very little to deserve them.

ESPN showing this Pels team vs OKC meanwhile you have a 12-0 team currently playing. No wonder the ratings are down..

I literally can’t remember ever turning off a game before the 4th quarter, even during the leanest of the lean years.

I’m tempted.

“ESPN showing this Pels team vs OKC meanwhile you have a 12-0 team currently playing. No wonder the ratings are down.”

When the schedule was set up, which team between the Thunder and the Cavaliers would ESPN have more likely assumed would have the better record?

I don’t care if it’s the 2nd night of a b2b…we cannot get washed at home by a Bulls team that does not play defense. I won’t be too mad if we lose..so long as we don’t lose by 20 to these Bulls. The guys did play big minutes last night and they are clearly gassed.

Meanwhile, the Bulls play at a really fast pace,

Speed is a big issue for this roster.

Don’t worry. He’ll have one game where he’s 1-10, plays sloppy and doesn’t defend well

Jeez, Strat, even I didn’t think it would take 2 hours for this to come true.

When the schedule was set up, which team between the Thunder and the Cavaliers would ESPN have more likely assumed would have the better record?

The game should be flexed, why not pick up on the best story in the sport especially at a time when the league is a mess with injuries and ratings down

This is vomit-inducing

The Bulls aren’t even defending well, we’re simply playing like zombies.

And to hell with B2B, professional athletes shouldn’t be gassed on the 11th game of a an 82 games season

Our lack of speed is one of the reasons I don’t want to bench Hart for Mitch when he comes back

Might as well start drinking

I am already drinking…
Turmeric Chamomile tea lol

I don’t think that the NBA is set up to flex games. As far as I know, the NFL is the only league that does that. I suppose it’s easier to change course and send commentators, etc. to a new location when each team only has one game a week?

The B2B isn’t a good excuse, but I do think it’s a little more valid when you’re running a 6.5 man rotation.

Of course, the fact that we’re doing that is some combination of a front office and coaching failure that’s more concerning than this one shitty game.

The B2B isn’t a good excuse, but I do think it’s a little more valid when you’re running a 6.5 man rotation.

If a team is getting blown out or the players have dead legs how much does it hurt to play your rookies? What’s the point for some of these players sitting on the bench..

I know the NBA flexes games on ESPN after the all star break to get more playoff relevant games on. TNT just flexed out Knicks/Magic in Dec.

Whatever Thibs said in that last time out needs to be bottled and brought out every game.

“Cameron Payne igniting an improbable comeback” is the kind of thing I am used to happening against the Knicks

Second night in a row that we had a nice stretch with Brunson on the bench, tonight Cam’s energy changed the game

Yeah I’m out on Thibs. He has run the whole team into the ground and has a 5-6 record to show for it.

Every now and then we get reminded that rooting for the Knicks is really about pain and misery… fuck this shit.

I couldn’t tell if that was a foul or not, but if it was, Hart should probably get fined for idiocy.

Yeah I’m out on Thibs. He has run the whole team into the ground and has a 5-6 record to show for it.

Still no identity

Fuck!

BUT. That was a GREAT game experience to help this group believe in themselves and “gel” as we say. Focus on the comeback we can do it again.

Good things, ahead, gents. Good things.

Bring the doom umbrellas tomorrow.

Every now and then we get reminded that rooting for the Knicks is really about pain and misery
 fuck this shit.

It’s a Hard Knicks Life

Was furious at Hart at first but didn’t see much on the replay.

That fucking rim, man. Fuck.

Yeah great experience to blow a game at home against a team that probably won’t even make the play in tourney.

Maybe we can hire a coach with a defensive pedigree.

Thibs doesn’t work without rim protection

Thibs did a good job in some past seasons but this is like a caricature. Every starter played a billion minutes and we lost to a crummy team in November.

We’re not going to be any good with that guy coaching this particular team. It just doesn’t work.

Yeah great experience to blow a game at home against a team that probably won’t even make the play in tourney.

The east is terrible
All you need is the 10th seed

It doesn’t matter at all if that was a foul or not, Hart has to fucking know you cannot contest a shot like that because the refs will probably call it, and we have no challenges left. You lost the assignment, let the dude take the fucking shot and live with the result, worse scenario you’re still down 1 with 3 seconds left.

What’s going on right now

Certain players showing talent

No bench because thibs and leon to an extent

Zero coaching

Yeah great experience to blow a game at home against a team that probably won’t even make the play in tourney.

We clicked well together finally and came back from 22 down on the second game of a back to back. Both our top guys came through down the stretch. A different roll and we win. Bridges had a good game. Payne showed a bit and even Sims was not embarrassing tonight.

It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

This is a talented team that is punching way below its weight despite the fact that the coach is using a playoff rotation in November. I respect Thibs for what he has done in the league but this is just not going to end well.

They played 32 shitty minutes against a swiss cheese defense team before waking up, their best players missed 6 costly FTs and they lost the game on a dumb foul (there was no reason to try, Hart was late, White was already off balance, the refs call it 99,9% of the time just for the dynamic: let him shoot).

How did Brunson’s shot not go in?

Thibs career

Very good coach when he needs to coach up a team a team with low talent level

Can’t coach a team with talent

It’s his resume

Another blown 4th quarter lead, Knicks have 6 losses and had 2nd half leads in 4 of them.

you can see hart push white in the back and then quickly pull his hand away once I imagine he thinks his body is no longer obscuring the push.

Stop playing players 40 minutes on a b2b . Thibs is anti rookies and Matt Ryan seems like he’s poo

possible the l2m says no hart foul and also cites the blatant moving screen from vuc that freed him

Knicks took the lead with 9 mins left, didn’t have to come down to the final possession.

The Knicks starters played 186 minutes

The Bulls starters played 167 minutes

I agree Thibs underutilizes his bench but tonight is not the night to bitch about it

Karl-Anthony Towns is on the Garden floor, still in uniform, shooting free throws with Mark Bryant feeding him the ball.
I appreciate it.

Minutes add up and this was a b2b. The question is does Thibs trust anybody on the bench not named Payne and Mcbride..That problem lies between Leon and Thibs.

Berman trolling the Knicks on Twitter is the only positive about the start of this season.

I hear you, but this was not game seven. Who cares?

It’s a clichĂ©, but we must fail (often spectacularly) in order to learn.

Rather they fuck up now in November.

More important is KAT’s knee.

80 minutes for the Bulls’ shitty bench, 52 minutes for the Knicks’ bench. Bulls win the game.

The Knicks also looked putrid for most of this game, like they have not improved one iota since the start of the season. Sure, they went on a run because the Bulls stink. But you just can’t escape the fact that this just looks like a sloppy, poorly coached team most of the time. They’re trying to steal games based on the elite talent of a couple of the best players but they’re an eyesore to watch and are not improving. Playing everybody this many minutes is only going to exacerbate the problem.

Rather they fuck up now in November.

The players will have have no energy if they get to April.

you just can’t escape the fact that this just looks like a sloppy, poorly coached team most of the time.

Not trying to escape it. Rather leaning into it. Hoping to get it out of our system before the new year.

EDIT: On the minutes, I totally agree. Thibs is insane and I’m among the first to call for a longer rotation to get everyone some reps. No argument here.

OG was a -20, Bridges a +2

OG was tired at tip-off and shot like 1-9 to start the game. He prolly should have called in sick.

Bridges I would argue might have turned a corner tonight. The highlights may prove me wrong, but his line is about what I expect on a “regular” night, 20 pts, 6 bounds, 5 assists, 1 steal. And I thought he had some good defense down the stretch against LaVine but I was also well drunk by then 😉

Big in my opinion: turnovers (15) and free throws. We shot 18 to Chicago’s 27. Towns and Brunson combined to make only 7 of 13. Ummmm. That shouldn’t happen again..

How many games can we blow the exact same way? Does any team foul on 3pa in high leverage situations as reliably as we do? I honestly expect us to lose when we’re up 2 with seconds to go, even more than I usually do

The game has passed Thibs by. He’s putting in the coaching equivalent of Phil Jackson’s run as GM.

Worst loss of the season.

Weird:

Maybe the newborn doesn’t travel with the team?

Watching Clinigan defend the rim had me wishing for Mitchell Robinson minutes.

DDV – Maybe he shot his load last season..

That’s because the East stinks

Sixers not healthy

Bucks are a mess

Magic are 3rd with Paolo out and just beat Indy

Thibs will get the grace of a full season , but he doesn’t have a long leash with expectations needed to be met.

Some good signs tonight, felt like the kind of win that would give the team a boost. Long season to get it together.
