Game Thread 2023-24 Knicks @ Trailblazers: OG Against a Bad Team Opener, which is kind of a thing

The Knicks begin a west coast trip with a game in Portland, so we get to see the awesome Brunson/OG team play against a terrible Trailblazers team, so this should be so much fun!

Let’s go, Knicks!

You are correct Doogie, I meant can’t. Feel free to correct me anytime. Oddly enough, kids used to call me Henny Youngman in elementary school. I remember him for having some pretty funny one liners on a service called “dial-a-joke”. That’s how old I am.

Let’s go Knicks! Shake and Bake!

Awful news about RJ’s brother. We’ll never stop fighting about the basketball player, but the person has always struck me as a first-class guy.

I’ll probably tap out at halftime of this one…hopefully with the outcome not in doubt.

Hart with 4 rebounds in 5 minutes. Lordy.

Please let’s not allow Deandre Ayton to pummel us. He’s been on kind of an individual tear lately.

Awful news about RJ’s bro. Thoughts and prayers.

The Blazers are bad and without everyone. Trap game. We should win by a lot.

This game has that uncomfortable feel like the Blazers are gonna drag us down to their level.

Hope I’m wrong.

looks like they spent the afternoon hitting some local craft breweries and some dispensaries…

I thought they might be impervious to 3pt fluctuation against the Portland but maybe not.

I’m just cranky that I have to stay up late to watch this game and still have to wake up early for work tomorrow. Saturday night’s game will be easier to watch lol

Burks looks like he aged 10 years in 2, he’s washed as all hell.

I really thought Scoot was taller, he looks about the same size as McBride there, and just about as athletic… I would be worried if I was a Portland fan.

Can’t watch the game, but looking at the box — maybe if Alecks didn’t hoist it up every time. He’s got the second-most shots of any Knick, tied with OG and Donte, in a third of the minutes.

On the flipside, Ayton is terrible at boxing out… and rebounding in general. Bummer for Portland.

This is my first time watching Ayton live this season. He is not leaving an impression on this game at all.

There’s a position battle looming on the Knicks for the playoffs and I’m getting the feeling that the two who are battling are both going to be out of the rotation. Fully healthy 1st team: Brunson, Devo, OG, Jules, iHart. 2nd team: Deuce, Hart, Burks/Bojan, Precious, Mitch. Obviously it’s Burks and Bogdanovic that I’m talking about.

Both Bojan and Burks look weak. Come playoff time, Thibs 9-man rotation probably doesn’t include either.

Not to jinx it, but it would take a Herculean effort to lose this game.

Yeah, the Sixer scrubs at least have some experience with winning, ya know? There were some “dawgs” on that squad. This Blazers team is pretty gutless.

I don’t like OG coming back to the bench right there. That’s scary as shit. I will assume the best, though! What else can we do but hope for the best?

It’s important to note that he never went back to the locker room, ya know? So I’m hoping this is just a minor tweak.

DeAndre Ayton must be infuriating to have on your team, that’s for sure… didn’t give a fuck in Phoenix, doesn’t give a fuck now.

Every time Scoot drives he stops at the paint and throws up a terrible jumper or a floater… yikes.

OG can’t straighten his right arm but he’s dunking I don’t know what’s going on

I’m just accepting it as a great thing!

OG screaming in pain then a minute later doing a reverse slam was something else. Not to mention following that with a steal and another dunk secs later.

okay, so once again i’ll put it out there – jalen is a top 10 player, OG is a top 20 talent and julius is top 30 in the league…

my thought being that if OG signs with us, stays healthy – he is gonna blow up big next year…so, any mention of OG in the top 20 won’t seem so far fetched next season…

Despite eventually winning this game its easily one of the worst performances of the season.

The risk with a potential OG injury is that Thibs is brain damage level stupid on the issue. He continued to play both Mitch and Grimes on the nights they got hurt and almost no doubt did more damage to both. Grimes still has knee issues and Mitch is still out.

DDV has been pretty awful for 5 games in a row.

He’ll be better next year after we trade for Mikal Bridges and make DDV the 6th man. 🤫

reversion to the mean can be painful

It’s not that we had a good game. We didn’t. Our defense seemed fine for stretches but it’s tough to judge based on this game. Whatever Portland put on the floor tonight didn’t seem able to beat any team. We only had two players as bad as Portland’s roster. That would be Bogey and Burks. Thankfully, they didn’t play a lot. I don’t understand, by the way, why Bogey, who is slower than a 95-year-old grandma, keeps driving to the basket almost every time he gets the ball. Anyways. We got a favorable whistle tonight and it was the first time I saw Brunson being treated by the refs like an all-star that he is. Well, we got the W and this is what matters. Three tough games coming up.

Not an easy win, but I’ll take it. Every game is big at this point… I would like to see OG wearing a full sleeve with some padding on that elbow… I thought Monica did well tonight… She definitely prepares well and she and Breen had good chemistry.

With all the injuries that we’ve had to major players, we’re still on a 48-win pace. When you think of it in those terms, we’ve got a pretty damn good team.

For some reason, I’d really like 50 wins. It’s just a nice round number

I’ve been saying for a while now that all they needed to do was get OG healthy, and they were going to start winning, like, every game again. The Brunson/OG combo is just so lethal, because suddenly the team (which was already pretty darn good on defense) becomes a defensive monster (and that’s without Mitch in the paint. Can you even imagine an OG/Mitch combo on defense? That, by the way, seems to be something that the Knicks privately are very much looking forward to themselves, so I think Mitch is getting his starting gig back whenever he’s fully healthy. Not saying that in a “He deserves it” sense, but more a “This just seems to be their plan” sense), and obviously Brunson is already an offensive monster, and now you have OG at the 4 on offense? It’s just such a well-designed team right now. If those two dudes stay healthy, they are going to win so many fucking games, and be a real tough out in the playoffs.
