Game Thread 2023-24 Knicks vs. 76ers: OG Is Back, which is thankfully a thing

Okay, now everything is going to fall into place, OG Anunoby is back!

They better kick the Sixers’ ass tonight!

Let’s go, Knicks!

I don’t agree that Precious is strictly a center. In my opinion, he’s a defensive wing with limited offensive ability. He’s 6’8″ and 225lbs. I think he’s a cromulent 1.0-minute backup PF for Randle if the other 4 players are iHart, OG, Bojan, and either Brunson, Burks, or Deuce, in that order.

“But Bogey should’ve gotten more than 18 minutes on Sunday and that’s factorial.”

It would be nice if folks did not try to pawn off their highly dubious opinions as facts.

I was paraphrasing Stephon Marbury it’s not that serious

This is such pollyanna shit. It’s not Thibs’ fault, these guys aren’t playable. It isn’t Rose’s fault, because reasons. Well, it’s somebody’s fucking fault. This trade looks like dog shit.

Pick your poison. We gave up an asset apparently for no reason. Decide whose fault that is.

95% agree. We also gave up two 2nd round picks.

Since I was very vocal about the problems with this trade from day one, I’m putting my 2 cents back in AGAIN.

My guess is they ALL realized bench scoring was an issue, Fournier wanted out, and the injuries left them shorthanded.

IMO, the best short and long term solution was trading for a backup PG that could score a bit to replace Quickley. We don’t really know who was available and at what price. So it’s hard to be too harsh. Still, I still think they overrated Deuce’s ability to handle the job. He’s a nice player, but he’s no PG.

They also seemingly panicked into the trade to add depth and scoring because of the injuries without thinking about how those players would fit on a team without a backup PG, whether they could defend a lick or whether it made any sense long term. Sure Grimes was not the answer to our short term problems on offense, but long term he’s still a plus defender with upside and played well on that side for us.

On the injury issue, IMO they should have just accepted that we were going to lose some extra games. Big deal! This team was and still is not a finished product and if Randle is not 100% we have no chance to do anything really meaningful . They acted like we were a major contender that couldn’t afford to blow playoff positioning.

The whole thing wreaks of short term panic from a management and coach that had mostly been resisting short term thinking in favor slowly building using draft, trade, and free agency to add players that fit, complemented each other and were at the appropriate age.

Bojan and Burks are not very good, but both are still capable of going off on any given night. Let’s hope they do that a few times down the stretch of the season. There’s nothing we can do about the trade now.

It’s looking like January in New York again…

Knicks definitely have come out with an edge tonight they didn’t have on Sunday.

This. 1000 percent this. In fact, I said basically the same thing earlier today. Strat might have just said it better.

Arsenal win a champions league tie. OG is back. 65 degrees in NYC. I am living right.

We look like an NBA team again!

It really is hilarious how much better we look with just one of our guys back from injury.

OG is gonna have a ton of leverage in his contract negotiations with the Knicks.

Shoot the three, Josh–

Ah, never mind, tip balls in and take it to the rim instead. That works.

imagine having on your roster one of the all-time-great centers in his prime and the team you put around him goes 10-20 when he’s out

Josh Hart with a nonchalant 6 points on 3-5, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and a steal in a quarter.

Watching the first quarter, I have to defend Bogey a little. Philadelphia is defending him very closely. People didn’t do that to Fournier for sure, and I don’t remember Grimes getting that much attention either. There something to be said for drawing defensive attention. It helps out the other teammates on the floor.

It doesn’t matter how many players get healthy, Josh Hart will still play 40+ minutes.

I mostly just feel sad for Alex Burks.

But I also feel a little bit mad.

I’m streaming this game on Max and the commercials for all these crazy TNT shows are just insane.

Discussion of Bogey gravity in this thread. Exceptional help rotation when Precious went for the steal on Oubre!

The +/- is hilarious right now.

OG: +15
DDV: +20
IHart: +17
Brunson: +13
Hart: +18

Bojan: -3
Burks: -5
Precious: -2

Holy shit this feels so good

Edit: Brunson grabbing at his hip isn’t good, but it doesn’t seem to be impacting him too much…hopefully just a tweak.

I’d be mad at Hart because of that last play, but it was such a great imitation of a drunk playing basketball that he gets a pass.

Also 13-8-8 at the half.

Edit: Marechal, cut that out…

Sorry, raven.

I think Hart was trying to get a foul call on that last shot. They didn’t show a replay, but Thibs seemed pretty mad at the referees for the no-call.

The Sixers pretty much had the same first half as Sunday and we definitely did not.

Arsenal win a champions league tie.

Yeah, unfortunately. 🙁 Good luck for the rest of the Champions League.

I already had a heartbreak game today, so please give me a peaceful win, Knicks! 🧡💙

Remember when the Knicks gave every game back in the third quarter?

It’s baaaaaaack….

Was going to complain about Donte’s game and then he hits that three. Never mind, Donte…

Also good defense on the next sequence leading to the travel.

24 assists on 29 made FGs is pretty nice.

Yes yes yes!
When they’re not too busy trying to break the all-time record for “refused open shots” this team make you dream…

I didn’t think it was possible for me to be any more of an OG fan than I already was, but it happened.

Honorable mention for Josh Hart. Hustle Bunny GOAT.

How is OKC getting shut down by Indiana?

It’s bc Thibs isn’t playing Bojan enough

Ok, Bojan got his field goal attempts. Now let’s see if he can have as many made field goals as he has turnovers.

Precious is so dangerous once he gets into the paint. He a serious athlete.

They’re shooting like dog shit I think

🤣 🤣 🤣

I think Bojan read the blog and decided to show that some of us were indeed right about playing him more minutes.

That might have been the ugliest shot I’ve ever seen. He missed the rim by about 3 feet from the free throw line.

Bogey quick with the trigger at least. More like triple bogey though, and not in the good way.

A season and a half in Detroit sapped Bojan’s spirit, he used to be a prideful and very competitive guy, he often looks too soft here…

I see mitch in the box score on espn…was he activated?

No, think this is some weird espn thing. Friend of mine is travelling and he texted me last game to ask if OG and Mitch were back because they were both in the espn boxscore (I could be wrong though)

I see mitch in the box score on espn…was he activated?

No, he was officially out.

Edit: DRed beat me to it 🙂

Precious is good playing with his feet, we could have used him against Arsenal. 😀

There’s really no need to be playing Brunson now, and Hart could probably rest for a bit or preferably a lot.

Wouldn’t be the craziest thing in the world to take Brunson out of the 28 point game

I mean thank god Hart is fine but that was a scary fall. Can we Shake it up? See if Charlie Brown can kick the football?

Has Hart been out of the game yet?

Not this half. He sat for 3 minutes in the first half.

Hart is about to get a 20-20-10 game.

Oh well looks like he’ll have to settle for 20-19-10.

Who had Josh Hart 20-20-10 on their bingo card?

Edit: MARECHAL!!!

Standing O for Thibs in the Hubie House for pulling his starters w 6 mins to go.

If they don’t score 3 we hold them to the lowest total of the season 🙂

I really want to see Shake, but watching Deuce brings me such joy.

Standing O for Thibs in the Hubie House for pulling his starters w 6 mins to go.

This!

We found Thibs’ threshold – a 30 point lead with 5 minutes left he considers relatively safe

Just imagine how much we would have won by if Thibs had played Bojan more minutes…

Alec Burks was a -7 in a 27 point game.

Bojan had 2 FGAs, both misses, in 22 minutes.

Seriously, what a trade.

Edit: it’s even worse than I originally typed!

Max…I watched the whole game …that was playoff intensity…I like the new acquisitions…and shesty is back on his game

Knicks have now clinched the head to head tiebreaker vs Philly, Cleveland and Miami.

Unfortunately they have already lost the head to head tiebreaker vs Orlando and Indiana.

OG Anunoby is apparently made of magic so I’m not worried about anything anymore

So Hubie, your thesis is when Bogey plays under 20 minutes, we lose and score the fewest points in the league. when he plays over 20 minutes, we win by 27.

I like it…?

Deuce is shooting 40% from three. That blew my mind.

Feeling better about the Knicks after tonight, no doubt

A few weeks ago Z-Man chastised me for saying there were reasonable disagreements about the Bogey trade even though I ultimately agreed with it, with his position being it was so obviously good there were in fact no reasonable disagreements. Now I guess his position is Bogey is a bum.

Our long national (New York) nightmare is over

So Hubie, your thesis is when Bogey plays under 20 minutes, we lose and score the fewest points in the league. when he plays over 20 minutes, we win by 27.

It’s really amazing how much impact the 4 extra minutes had, right?

Remember the Key & Peele skit when the terrorists met about the cunning and mighty TSA?

We all know the devastation you can wreak with 22 minutes of Bojan. The damage is incalculable. But when you limit him to only 18 minutes? That’s like having a 4 inch scissor instead of 5 inches. One is a dangerous weapon, the other is a child’s play thing.

OG unlocking us on both sides of the ball is just incredible.

First low blood pressure Knicks game in a long while.

If this blowout continues Hart may only play 39 minutes.

d-mar the truthsayer…

now that – is impeccable delivery/timing sir…bravo 🙂

I didn’t think it was possible for me to be any more of an OG fan than I already was, but it happened.

his impact feels mitch-like…those two guys just have a way of gumming up an opponents offense…

you get glimpses of it during the game when the opposition starts purposefully avoiding them…

hopeful come season’s end – there won’t be too many weak spots in our defense at all…

mandatory viewing: wemby is in action against the rockets…

I loved the adjustments after the timeouts when the Sixers made their runs in both halves. We showed them they had no chance tonight. Our defense was at stretches just spectacular and our offense very good. Everybody sees the difference a glue-player like OG makes.

Now, I am concerned with three things. The first has to do with Hart’s minutes. Thibs has to find a way to give him some rest. I understand how important his role is. He looked like a little Lebron tonight. It’s jaw-dropping. I don’t know how he still sustains his energy and relentlessness. Second, I am concerned with Brunson being so beat up. It seems like opposing teams literally hit him every other time down. Finally, I am still concerned with Bogey and Burks. They competed who is the worst tonight. They are both good serviceable players and they have to find their game at some point. The sooner they do it, the better.

This was another much-needed win and it’s amazing we are still fourth. At the same time, we are still not healthy and not out of the woods yet. Please don’t get too high now and too low the next time we lose! Going back to my Chardonnay! LGFK!

The Knicks have held their opponents to under 80 points for three consecutive games. They are the first team to accomplish that since the 76ers did it in January 2012.

Rough, agree with you, I worry about Jalen every time he drives; but he did only play 27 minutes tonight. Which good on Thibs.

Of course, some of his replacement was Alex Barfs, so bad on Thibs…

This should come with a footnote about who these three opponents were, but it’s still impressive.

So we play the Blazers, Kings, Warriors and Nuggets on this upcoming road trip

Is 2-2 possible? Guess it kind of depends on whether Steph plays or not.

If this blowout continues Hart may only play 39 minutes.

Considering it was 39 minutes and 4 seconds, gotta give props where props are due

Hope everyone sees the writting on the wall now that ehn Randle and Mitch come back…Bojan will collect DNPs – coaching decision. This is going to age into Leon’s worst trade in NY.
