Game Thread 2023-24 Knicks vs. 76ers : Just Watch the Oscars Opener, which is not a thing

The Knicks host the 76ers tonight, who are playing without both of their All-Stars, and more importantly, the reigning MVP who the entire team is based around, so the Knicks really should have no problem with the Sixers tonight (the Sixers are literally winless without Embiid and Maxey), so you might want to just check out the Oscars.

Still, the Knicks need wins, and you can never be positive about any win, so they still need to win this one.

Let’s go, Knicks!

fuck alec, we got shake now – we just need one if them to function properly…

deuce and josh can bring the ball up until julius/OG get back…

I haven’t looked at their stat page comparison, but shake is younger and has a much cooler name…

my two fave players to watch right now are deuce and precious – little engines that can…

I’d be very okay with precious as the backup 4 going forward…

precious >>> obi

it just is…

and, we need to ease up on donte for the moment…he hasn’t looked good for a week or so…

looks exhausted…

Let’s get an easy win as the Knicks did 28 years ago today vs the Bulls in JVG’s 1st career win.

also looking at iasaih to see if he’s healthier…

one of the things I enjoy most now is that with the nova guys, isaiah and precious – they were all well coaced before they even came to the nba…

Sleepy start. Sort of like Hubie, who needs an energy drink…

Not gonna be an easy win if they continue playing this awful on offense the rest of the game.

They’re leaving Precious and Hart wide open (duh); Hart is refusing to shoot, and Precious is, um, not refusing to shoot.

Deuce has to shoot those, too. He’s not usually shy about that…

They’re leaving Precious and Hart wide open (duh); Hart is refusing to shoot, and Precious is, um, not refusing to shoot.

OG and Julius would not, so we can dream… 😉

ESPN suits must be testing the windows on the top floor to see if they open…

I’m saying it already, this would be by far the worst loss of the season…

Josh Hart filling up the box score with 7 rebounds and 5 turnovers…

Sabonis just 2 assists and 1 turnover shy of a quadruple double, and it’s still the 3rd quarter.

Josh Hart getting 4 offensive rebounds in one posession and then throwing the ball to the Sixers is the most Josh Hart posession ever

J-Hart’s playing like an hustlebunny after AB Normal’s (from Young Frankenstein) brain transplant…

ESPN suits must be testing the windows on the top floor to see if they open…

Right now they’re inquiring whether it’s possible to switch to the Johnsonville Cornhole tournament.

Does anyone else need to mute Doris and Hubie? Is it just the bad play or am I correct that the play-by-play is just that bad?

The game is on MSG with Breen and Clyde. Its only redeeming quality so far.

i don’t think its doris…but be careful…you may be called a misogynist if you criticize any woman broadcaster…

12 fucking turnovers. We’re doing an incredible job of getting offensive rebounds and then throwing it to the sixers

ha, this is like a basketball recreational league game…

so bad…so bad…

bogey does not look settled at all…

holy cow we are chucking the ball all over the court…

Clyde must be going mad about all these cross-court passes to the Sixers.

Unfortunately the MSG feed is blocked when ESPN is on because I’m in Florida. I can rewatch it later with Clyde and Breen, but who would want to see a replay of this mess?

And yeah, it is Doris, and I objectively dislike her.

the Josh Hart Precious Achiuwa 2 man perimeter game is not working out so good

WTF was Hart thinking on that one?

Sleepy and Grumpy at the mic, and two utterly comatose teams. Watch this game on ESPN and sleep well tonight.

I couldn’t type “Bet they don’t get the last shot off” in time!

Watch this game on ESPN and sleep well tonight.

this is nightmare material…not no doze stuff…

The Knicks are definitely winning this game, but holy shit.

– Shooting like shit: done
– Playing stooopid: done
– Worst Half Of The Season: Done

We’re pretty lined up for an ugly win…

Honestly they could try playing Brunson, Deuce and DDV together if Thibs doesn’t trust Burks or Bojan. He could have stuck with Bojan a bit more – when he finally made a 3 he was subbed out.

It’s not Doris, it’s Beth… I take back my previous high school comment. I’ve seen much better high school games.

The commentators were wrong but the actual fact is still stunning — Knicks with 12 made shots and had 12 turnovers in the half.

I don’t understand how they come out this flat in such an important game.

When Kelly Oubre Jr is the best player on the court things aren’t going so good

Outside of a Sims dunk, have there been any other SHOTS at the rim, much less baskets?

Outside of a Sims dunk, have there been any other SHOTS at the rim, much less baskets?

By the NBA.com shot chart I count 5 total, 4 makes. It’s not good.

My apologies to Doris.
Beth sucks.

Breen – “Knicks playing with fire tonight”

There’s 2 ways to interpret that, I think we know what he meant.

Well it may not be the worst loss of the year, but it’ll certainly be the worst-PLAYED loss of the year.

What an opportunity tonight – Heat and Magic lost and the Cavs are losing by 10 to Brooklyn

Gotta gut this one out.

If Thibs isn’t playing the Detroit guys in a game where the starters are this putrid, I’m not sure we will see much of them this year.

What a great lineup. Precious, Sims, Hart, Deuce, and Donte. One shot-maker.

Ah, and now Bogey. Thank god.

Might as well put Burks back in

Calling him Burks seems to have made everyone shoot like him

On track for 75 points. We won’t be lowest score of the year. Thank goodness…

Mike Breen really just said “Burks is one of those players that can impact the game without scoring with his defense and playmaking.”

It’s gotten to the point where I’m just hoping the Knicks actually get a shot off rather than turn the ball over.

“jhart is dogshit tonight”

The entire team is dog shit tonight, not one Knick playing well

“I’ve seen teams suck before but they were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked”

Isaiah has played okay, 9 rebounds in 19 minutes. Too bad he’s on a minutes restriction.

The Knicks are definitely winning this game, but holy shit.

I am starting to have my doubts

I was literally about to give Thibs credit for going with just one center down the stretch but he hurried up and put iHart back in just in time.

Hart isn’t shooting because he sucks tonight. 2-10 and 0-6 from three.

But it is frustrating to watch.

I was about to give Thibs credit for only having one center in but he hurried up and got iHart back just in the nick of time.

And they immediately double Brunson leaving Achiuwa looking lost on the 3pt line… come on Thibs this isn’t difficult to figure out

Classic playground move. Donte grabs the legs, iHart shoves him.

Hart isn’t shooting because he sucks tonight. 2-10 and 0-6 from three.

But at least he has 6TOs

Insane that Oubre did not receive a tech there

I must say the Sixers are giving the Knicks every chance. It’s just the Knicks are refusing the honor.

Did the team get food poisoning or something. What a ridiculous performance.

I know we’re missing a couple guys but this looks like the worst team in the NBA

That “We’re getting to 75” appears to be a bad take…

This was just one of those games. Credit the Sixers for their defensive effort.

The Sixers scrub team actually played like shit and they still managed to beat us.

Oh Max, this is a team loss…

Sorry Raven, I judge stars on higher standards 🙂

Burkitis is spreading wide!

In a night where Miami, Cleveland and Orlando all lost, the Knicks are able to find a way to crap the bed with the smelliest shit in years.

Pathetic display, everyone’s responsible, coach included.

I hope they’re as mad as I am.

Bojan was 4-8 and only played 18 minutes??

Jericho Sims got more playing time

This is a Thibs loss. Too many minutes given to hopeless, inept lineups. I know that Bogey and Burks have not looked like world beaters but you have to give the team at least some sort of prayer of scoring a basket, especially when you are trying to come from behind. Sometimes you really have to wonder what’s going on in Thibs’ head. Some truly abysmal lineup choices in this embarrassing loss.

I’m starting to lose my patience with Thibs. He has coached like shit during this period where we are trying to come back from injuries. We’re probably stuck with him forever but his shortcomings are really glaring. He has security blanket players that he runs into the ground and his backup plan when Plan A fails is to try Plan A again, but harder.

This is a Thibs loss. Too many minutes given to hopeless, inept lineups.

Bogey playing 18 minutes for a team struggling to score is inexcusable

What an ugly performance! Tough to overcome 33% shooting and 20 or so turnovers. Philly packed the paint, and was all night keying on Brunson and pressuring DiVo, our only scoring threats. We sorely missed Randle tonight. When the other team takes you out of rhythm, then you can also miss easy open shots when you find them. This is what happened.

We are what we are right now. Let’s not forget that besides Randle and OG, I-Hart and Brunson are not 100%. No complaints, we got two wins this week. Orlando and Heat both lost tonight, Indy won, we must keep treading water.

I honestly cannot believe that they not only lost this game, but didn’t even score as much as the Magic did the other night. Hol. E. Shit.

Nick Nurse got some nice aggressive defense from his shitty team, but come on, the Maxey and Embiid-less Sixers are terrible. This was a disgrace.

Bogey shot 50 % from the field, 50% from 3 and he only played 18 minutes…Thibs can’t keep getting a pass if he isn’t trying every option

I assume Thibs is safe but losing in the 1st rd will surely put him on the hot seat regardless of the injuries situation.

I’ve often said Thibs is not obsessed with winning, he’s obsessed with repetition. These shitty lineups haven’t worked for a month and he still uses the same predictable rotation with hardly any adjustment.

Bojan was 4-8 and on played 18 minutes??

Yes. He was also -12 in 18 minutes and added 1 rebound, 0 assists, 0 steals and 2 turnovers in his stint. Brunson and Hartenstein must be on minutes restrictions as iHart was probably his best player tonight and Thibs kept him on the bench til 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter and he would have ridden Brunson (32 min) like Dr. Fager with the absence of offense tonight.

They collectively handled the ball like a hand grenade and shot awfully from both, but especially 3 with Brunson, J Hart and DDV a collective 5-28 from 3, only slightly worse than the rest of the team.

Worst loss of the season. Thibs has totally lost the the plot when it comes to the appropriate Precious/Bogey balance. We got Bogey for games exactly like this. The front office should intervene.

Bogey shot 50 % from the field, 50% from 3 and he only played 18 minutes…Thibs can’t keep getting a pass if he isn’t trying every option

I am not in the mood to get into the Thibs debate. The roster is what it is. My observation is that Bogey, who has clearly been better than Burks so far, was not a clear positive on the floor. He did not look comfortable with Philly’s physical defense, he is slow, he was not good on defense himself, and was -12 when he played. Brunson going 1-9 and Divo 3-12 from outside are more glaring than Bogey’s 18 minutes. It’s not that he didn’t play at all. If he comes in for Josh Hart (I don’t like that Hart plays so many minutes but I don’t see an alternative as long as OG is not back), things will collapse. If Bogey comes in for Precious, defense and rebounding also suffer, significantly so. And so on. I could also talk critically about Thibs’ decisions tonight as well as almost every night. I don’t think, however, that Thibs lost us the game. We lost the game because of the turnovers, the shooting, the non-playoff roster we have right now. This is my view.

Bojan was 4-8 and only played 18 minutes??

Jericho Sims got more playing time

Nice retort until you realize Hartenstein is on a minutes restriction.

Play Precious at the 5, Bojan at the 4 and cut down on Jericho Sims minutes.

But, the Knicks had to slow down Embiid tonight so that wasn’t possible for Thibs to accomplish.

Nice retort until you realize Hartenstein is on a minutes restriction.

Nice retort until you realize Precious is a center 😉

Thibs is definitely responsible for not having them ready to play tonight. They crushed Philly by 36 their last match up and I’m sure Nurse reminded them a few times the past day or two. You could tell by the post game interview win, lose or draw, Philly wasn’t going to be out hustlebunnied tonight. The Knicks weren’t ready to match that intensity for 48 minutes.

Between Thibs being an old stubborn mule and players shooting UFOs and having mental brain farts with the ball in their hands (turnovers) – this was complete dog shit. Everyone is to blame. No point in assigning weight on who was worse. shit is shit.

Thibs is definitely responsible for not having them ready to play tonight.

Saturday night partying is always suspicious. How many times over the decades have I seen the Knicks laying an egg on Sunday home games, especially matinees. Those are bad memories. 😂 Tonight, however, the defensive intensity was there. Philly didn’t even make it to 80 points. It is on offense that they never got into a rythm. Had they done that for at least one quarter, they’d have won tonight.

OG is gonna deserve a max contract with how bad this team has looked without him. Granted not having Randle as well is a pretty big problem too. Absolutely crazy that they both got hurt in the same game which has forced them to miss 5 weeks and counting.

I’m just going to complain about sticking Hart and Precious in the corners all game. I mean, I get that’s a set, put guys in the corners, opens the floor.

But they’re supposed to be SHOOTERS. It was an endless series of Precious or Hart getting the ball wide open at the three point line because the Sixers were totally ignoring them, and sadly, sometimes they shot it — and, sadly, sometimes not. Meanwhile, anyone driving into the paint was met with three or even four defenders. So nothing worked, all game.

I just don’t know, if those are your two corner guys, maybe think of a new suite of plays while they’re on the floor.

We might soon grow tired of OG’s unavailability. He’s missed 1/3 of his team’s games the last 4 years.

Ha!

Josh Hart said it was a unique game. Asked in what way, he said, “We played like shit.”

I hate to say it, but E is right about Thibs in some important ways. Thibs doesn’t make adjustments well at all, and that is a severe detriment in a seven game series.

Nice retort until you realize Precious is a center 😉

Bogey played 5 minutes as the 4 and 5 minutes at 3 in the first half. The problem is OG is not available so J Hart and DDV logged 79 minutes tonight at the 2-3. If you want Bogey to play all 4, you are going to have to play a lot more Burks because J Hart and DDV can’t play all the the 2/3 minutes. 12 minutes of Burks in his current form is quite enough for me.

Yes. He was also -12 in 18 minutes and added 1 rebound, 0 assists, 0 steals and 2 turnovers in his stint.

Detroit sucks and they were even worse with Bojan on the court. Why would it be any different in NY? If anything it was going to be worse because of our lack of a backup PG.

He looks fine if you just look at scoring and TS%, but the game is played on two sides. He’s a rich man’s Fournier…. and that’s not a compliment. Thibs may be starting to see that. I said it as soon as the trade was made. He’s unquestionably going to have some big shooting nights, but overall he’s not good.

I hear the criticism, and Hubert says play Precious at center with Bogey at the 4. Ok, you get more shooting on the floor, but Precious as your 5 doesn’t improve the spacing much and makes you much worse on rim protection, rebounding and defense.

I don’t see many good solutions with Randle, OG and Mitch out with I Hart limited in minutes.

Detroit sucks and they were even worse with Bojan on the court. Why would it be any different in NY? If anything it was going to be worse because of our lack of a backup PG.

I think management thinks Bogey can be useful as a short minutes sub for Randle to supply elite shooting as long as Mitch/IHart and OG are on the floor at the same time to cover for him on the defensive end. He gets exposed in situations like he is in now or with Detroit

Detroit sucks and they were even worse with Bojan on the court. Why would it be any different in NY?

Because you have an overly simplistic view of raw plus/minus that you think correlates to things, but which actually doesn’t.

I don’t think Precious is a worse defender than Sims at the 5 position. Sims should simply not be getting minutes—he’s a disaster on both ends and has zero plus skills outside of jumping high. Literally putting Hart at the 5 would probably be a net improvement.

Russell Wilson to the Steelers, passing on the Giants

He has an avenue to be a relatively long term starter in Pittsburgh, the Giants would only want him for a stopgap, I think that’s the clear call for him.

Because you have an overly simplistic view of raw plus/minus that you think correlates to things, but which actually doesn’t.

“Bojan = Pointzzz” is not very sophisticated either

a bunch of weird scores tonight…

how in the world does the league schedule the clippers with a day game in the second of a back to back…

that was bullshit…the bucks should have lost last night too 😊

Edit: late night confession, I slept through a good bit of the game…

that’s two bad losses this week…

thibs is a coach, teams lose games they shouldn’t…

our players are most certainly not tuning him out…

could he squeeze more out of what he has, sure – but who couldn’t, right?
