    is there anyone out there?

Just nod if you can hear me
    Is there anyone home?
    Come on now
    I hear you’re feeling down
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again
    Relax
    I’ll need some information first
    Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?

man, i still remember being in my living room with some friends and listening to floyd for the first time while mom was at work…

maybe like 12 or so, we would smoke a bit outside, come inside and trip to music…

i remember we had a rocking chair in the living room – it was perfect for the moment…

my favorite album from the time was Animals, Pigs on the Wing I think it was?

you fucked up old hag, ha ha, how charade you are

not even sure if those are the actual words, some of that shit from decades and decades ago has definitely stuck with me…

Alan has some great ideas… i think out of the other options a substack would probably be the closest in spirit to what KB is…. discord is actually pretty nice to replace gamethreads altogether..

Mike not sure what script you’re using but distill.io works pretty well for uptime alerts…

howdy strat…how are you feeling today?

Not well, but better than the last 2 weeks.

I caught a really bad cold at the Jets game a couple weeks ago. I can’t seem to shake the cough and throat issues. I’m not sleeping well because of that and that tends to trigger mild anxiety issues on top of the cold discomfort. I’m in some kind of negative loop that I have to get going in a positive direction. Thanks for asking. I’m sure I’ll be fine.

I’m 45 so too young to be into Floyd back in their hey day. But my introduction to them was actually going to see them live on the Division Bell Tour in 1994 when I was a sophomore in high school, the last time they toured.

I had only ever really hear Another Brick In The Wall and Money on Classic Rock Radio and at that time those songs didn’t really register to me when I did hear them. Oh and I knew “Learning To Fly” bc of the music video in the 80’s.

My friend’s dad worked for Ticketmaster, so he got a whole bunch of us tickets that were on the 19th row on the Field at Memorial Stadium in Nashville. So super close.

First act they did a mixture of their 60’s songs and their Division Bell/Momentary Lapse of Reason stuff post Roger Waters.

But the second act they basically played all of Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals and The Wall. They opened the second act with Shine on You Crazy Diamond and I was hooked. It also helped that it was maybe the second time in my life I ever had gotten stoned.

Closed with Comfortably Numb with a massive disco ball that came out of the ground in the middle of hte field and shined over the entire stadium. I remember “hey you” really affecting me to the point where I almost shed tears (I think this is my favorite Pink Floyd song).

I went out that week and bought all of their big albums and over the years have collected everything. Definitely top three band for me, sometimes my fav depending on what kind of a mood I’m in.

I’m in some kind of negative loop that I have to get going in a positive direction.

    i wish you well brother…sending you a hug…

not to be too intrusive, but that is a fascinating belief/statement…

clicked on some sanjay gupta shit…it was him talking with his folks…in their 80’s i believe…

they were pretty neat…positive people…sanjay mentioned his ma grew up in a refuge camp…she had such a wonderful perspective towards aging, and life – basically, don’t worry on the shit you can’t control…yeah, easier said than done…

sanjay left it with trying to focus on how you: nourish, move, and rest…

    simple enough, right 😛

Hopefully the recent outage gave Mike a chance to see what the problem was…

the challenge is BJ, this site requires a good bit of effort and most definitely some funds in order for its continued functioning…

this is Mike K’s legacy…how freaking enduring and still relevant it is…

    job done well sir…

i propose going forward any wagering done – the proceeds go to KB Patreon…

any favors done – you know, like a name change – thank you strat, see i don’t forget stuff…or, like maybe a pic change – proceeds go to the KB Patreon…

seems fair enough…let the games begin…

i tried the discord thing on my phone…no go…i’ll try to on the computer…

ha, i think of discord as a gamer’s chat device…i play video games to not talk to people…hahahahahaha…

ha, i think of discord as a gamer’s chat device…i play video games to not talk to people…hahahahahaha…

LOL! In the beginning it was mostly gamers, i think, but now it is used for a lot of things.

howdy cyber – maybe you know sir…is there a way to do a one-time payment on the patreon thing…the way is looks now is a subscription thing?

maybe i’m missing (normally the case) something…

i just wanna throw bits and chunks of money in…

as you may imagine, i’m not a big change guy, i can adapt a little though…

my preference is to make this site easier to manage with better resources…i know, 20 years late to the party on that, but…if there’s choices to be made – i would be happy now to kick in to keep it rolling…

Hey Strat, this is coming from a NON-medical professional, so take it with the large block of salt it comes with, but my sis and her husband were laid out with what they believe was RSV for like two+ weeks, nasty cold symptoms (on a Euro trip, no less). Only now recovering.

    Regardless, feel better soon.

but my sis and her husband were laid out with what they believe was RSV for like two+ weeks, nasty cold symptoms

That might be it. I know it’s not Covid because I tested a bunch of times.

Carrying over one of this morning’s Discord convos over here: What do you care most about seeing over the remaining preseason games?

Technically, we have three left, but it sounds like the starters aren’t going to play in one of the back-to-backs. So it’s really two. The most common Discord answer was about how Josh Hart (if he’s healthy enough to play before the regular season) looks defending against bigger frontlines when he’s the backup 4, or seeing more of Sims at the 4. Beyond that, the only real variable seems to be RJ’s shooting.

“What do you care most about seeing over the remaining preseason games?”

Alan, the points you bring over are probably my biggest ones, too. Also:

    Is Deuce’s shot actually broken?

Will Donte shake off the rust/nerves soon?

    Who is this Joe Toppin?

    Also:

Was that just a good game, or has IQ upped a level?

Will Grimes up his game, too?

The Knicks own four 1RPs that are not their own, all of them protected to some degree. How are those picks looking in terms of conveying?

The Dallas pick is top 10 protected after this season and the next season. So two bites at the apple. Outside of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving the Mavs’ roster looks VERY dodgy. They are projected to start TWO rookies and Grant Williams along with Doncic and Irving. This team might suck. We need them to stop sucking sometime in the next two years. We need to root for the Mavs to be mediocre.

The Wizards are the tankiest team in the NBA right now. There’s no way we’re getting their pick this year, as they are a certain bottom 5 team in the league, and the pick is top 12 protected this year. In 2025 it’s top 10 protected, in 2026 it’s top 8 protected, and then it turns into two second rounders. Not liking the looks of that one.

The Pistons pick we own has an extra year before it turns into a second rounder, and the Pistons do have a reasonable amount of young talent on their team. We get four bites at that apple. Might take a while but that pick will probably convey.

We will very likely get the Bucks’ pick in 2025, but it will probably be a low 1RP as you would think Giannis and Dame are going to be doing their thing for at least two seasons.

That’s not a great looking bunch of assets.

I’m flying back to NY Wednesday through Sunday, hoping to do an adult tennis camp upstate that weekend. Planning to mask on the flight but my luck will be catching RSV and being totally fucked for the entirety of my trip.

the only thing preseason is for is to stay healthy…… occasionally you get sneak peaks into career leaps but probably more noise than anything…. especially these days when hardly anyone plays in preseason and if they do they are going about half speed….

Was that really Jon Abbey on the discord thread? I remember him from way back. Did he get the ban hammer or something?

Also flying east Wednesday to spend a week in the Hudson Valley. Also will be masked. Ditto on being totally fucked.

I’d like to see signs that Grimes is going to get more shots this year. Even Douce got more shots than him on the first preseason game and that sucks.

I don’t really know much about substack, and I don’t particularly like discord. Honestly I prefer slack if anything.

But to be honest, if this site was up 24/7, is there anything really lacking? Perhaps posting images? We tried threads/message boards once upon a time, but that didn’t work and there are better sites for that anyway. I don’t have the time for content anymore (although technically I did post a new article).

I think the site works as-is, and only because you folks are here providing unbelievably entertaining and insightful content. I do lurk, moreso during the season and at critical times. I just don’t have to bandwidth to comment “real-time” and often am a few hours/days behind when I do. So either someone else has said the same point, or y’all are onto something new.

Anyway, I probably will be silent again for a few more hours, but I’ll try to circle back and read what is posted here.

Mike, the site is great. For all I joke about gif-posting powers, all I really want is the conversation among this group. I was only asking because it seems like an increasingly big hassle for you to keep the old engine running, on a site where the rest of your life keeps you too busy to participate in. So if you would prefer not to deal with it anymore, we could relocate to some version of this. But if you’re not bothered by continuing to do maintenance, I will presumptuously speak for everyone and say that I’m fine staying here, with the Discord as our emergency meeting site. (and maybe a good place for game chats)

I’m gonna stay here at KB to the bitter end and just read Alan’s discord summaries. But Alan — since it’s just gonna be me here, you can skip the parts about the Knicks and just report he important stuff, like bagels, guitar riffs, and TV shows.

Speaking of TV shows, Alan, I think you’ve brought this show up several times on the blog, but man am I enjoying Season 3 of Reservation Dogs. Each episode is its own little treat and it’s one of those shows that I don’t want to see end. Just a charming, brilliant little masterpiece.

I love this site and how no-frills it is. Never change!

I’d probably join the Discord (there’s a Discord?) but never actually hang out there.

BTW, did the Knicks opt out of preseason? I want games!

I wear Skechers all the time! But I am also about to turn 50, so… do the youngs wear them?

I watched not one but THREE episodes of Reservation Dogs, which is as much as a rave review from me as you can get.

Five reasons today is a great day to be a Knicks fan:

    1. There are only two teams in the East that are head & shoulders above the Knicks, roster-wise. If Boston and Milwaukee stay healthy, they have more talent on the roster. If Harden were to play at his 2022-23 level, I’d add them. Everyone else has talent on par with or below the Knicks.
    2. Julius Randle showed that 2020-21 was not a COVID fluke. As of now, he is on a “very good” contract. Last year at this time, many people were prepared to give up draft picks to get off of his contract.
    3. Jalen Brunson is a leader, true point guard (modern version) and on a great contract.
    4. Mitchell Robinson has become the ne plus ultra of a rim-running, PNR, defensive stalwart center on a reasonable contract.
    5. The Knicks have young players that MIGHT grow a lot this year. We could see IQ, Grimes or McBride become great 4th options who have enough gravity to create space for Brunson, Randle and/or RJ to get to the rim, even with Robinson having zero range.

howdy cyber – maybe you know sir…is there a way to do a one-time payment on the patreon thing…the way is looks now is a subscription thing?

Hey Geo, the way to do a one-time payment is to set a monthly payment in the amount you want, and after the payment is done you cancel the membership. At least i’m not seeing any other option to do this.

Maybe it’s because i’m used to it, but i think the way KB works is perfect. Discord is a great platform but it’s a chat platform, meaning it’s not very good with long comments. Well, as we do thorough analysis here, we often have long comments. The readability of those comments is a lot better on this blog. If Mike K can keep this running, count me in the group that prefers to stay here. And there’s also the lurkers, as i said on the previous thread, here we can have new lurkers at any time, and maybe they’ll become members in the future. On a private space that only happens if a member invites new people. As others said, i think Discord will be great to replace the game threads, because it’s more interactive and we won’t need to keep refreshing the page to see the new comments. And as a backup place when the blog is down.

Sketchers has stores out here in SoCal and are a thing.
Wait til all those Sketcher-wearing Laker fans find out Randle is their new spokesman.

Nice move, Julius. Stealth-sticking it to a fanbase that still thumbs their nose at him.

I post more the lurkers anyway. They don’t respond to me, which generally makes my mornings more pleasant. How y’all doing’ out there tonight? Feeling like it’s a great time to be a Knicks fan yet?! (Answer that to yourself please.)

Now there seems to be a PayPal option for one time payments. I used that

with the Discord as our emergency meeting site. (and maybe a good place for game chats)

If you want to publish the discord link for game threads, that would be cool. The game threads are a little odd with the rest of the content. It might be better for that.

Hopefully that’ll save some space on the site too

“During his probation, Bridges is required to complete 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling, 52 weeks of parenting classes, complete 100 hours of community service and undergo weekly narcotics testing with marijuana allowed only if there is a valid doctor’s prescription.”

Sometimes that shit just doesn’t work.

On another note, a very, very sad story of Delonte West in The Athletic. Bipolar just destroys people. I can attest (not me, just folks I’ve known).

I don’t see anyone ever executing a perfect use of the phrase ne plus ultra on Diecord.

I like the idea of Discord for game threads quite a bit. Seems an excellent and smart compromise.

I will miss the way the site would crash whenever something exciting happened in a game though.

Just get rid of the discord. What we need is a reliable wordpress host. Are there really none left?

I know Miami was playing their scrubs but Wemby had some plays in that game that were bonkers. There was a give and go play in particular that looked frighteningly unstoppable. With his height, arm length and vertical leap he’s just able to get up higher than anybody else. Also has great hands, catches everything that comes in his direction.

But the thing that impressed me most was his shooting off the dribble. He couldn’t miss from midrange, there must have been 5 or 6 plays where he created some space with a dribble then easily drained a midrange jumper.
