Everybody ready to close out the series tonight?
English Knick will be there, anybody else?
The game is a little late for me, but if the sleep bug doesn’t catch me, i’ll be here! See you later, good people of KB! šŸ™‚

Michael Rubin buys 2,000 tickets for Game 6: ā€œWe cannot let Knicks fans take over our arena againā€

Do we think Dolan would do same? Anyone going down in disguise to get a free ticket? Haha.

Okay. Enough messing around. Knicks gotta close out tonight. Focus.

Tonight worries me. They guys have to be hyper focused. Game at 9 and the owner buying tix to keep Knicks fans at bay? It sure feels like someone is trying to keep Philly goin for the sake of ratings. I just hope the refs are better tonight than they’ve been all series. Oh..and I hope Thibs doesn’t keep Achiuwa on the bench too.

Still quite raw about game 5. Had to take the day off.

Hope they can put us out of our misery tonight.

I needed a day off too… and I’m still pissed (L2M report didn’t help at all).

But the series goes on and we must still win a game, alas tonight game is really too late (3 AM here) for me to watch live…

    Let’s Go Knicks!

I won’t jinx it so I won’t say anything. But if my usual insomnia strikes, I’ll be rooting for the Knicks live, for the amusement of my sleeping neighbours.

@Farfa & @Max, so I don’t kick kicked out of my home tonight, how do I say ” What the f**k” in Italian?

and I hope Thibs doesnā€™t keep Achiuwa on the bench too

I, too, would like to see us use the OG/Precious look again. Precious is actually agile enough to be effective guarding Maxey on a switch, as well, which could be our version of Batum on Brunson.

    Alas, Thibs.

Max, Farfa, Cyber, where do you watch the games live in Europe?

NBA League Pass or, for selected games (broadcaster’s choice), Sky Sport Italia NBA Channel

how do I say ā€ What the f**kā€ in Italian?

    Ma che cazzo!

    Esamples:
What the fuck happens? —> Ma che cazzo succede?

What the fuck are they doing? —> Ma che cazzo stanno facendo?

    šŸ˜€

I have NBA League Pass (which works like shit on my iPad, but it’s still better than nothing). Maybe Max watches it on Sky?

As for you, Bo, I guess you can say “Ma che cazzo?!”, which is a thing I used to say very often when Julius entered his patented spin move.

Bonus points if you gesticulate, putting your palms up with arms akimbo o your hands in your hair.

Max beat me to it but I’m happy to see that the Italian vibes are immaculate.

Everybody ready to close out the series tonight?

    Everybody Wang Chung tonight!

#But the series goes on and we must still win a game, alas tonight game is really too late (3 AM here) for me to watch liveā€¦#

Try to see it positively Max. It’s 4am here !
    ;-p

“Ma che cazzo” fills your mouth beautifully but the greek wtf is also splendid!
    “Tee ston boutso?#
    ;-p

I hope I don’t have to say, ” Donte, Ma che cazzo!!!” tonight.

The people of the west coast say thanks for the 9pm start! Itā€™s not just that I havenā€™t wanted to watch Knick games, 4pm games make it pretty much impossible. But this one I can watch with my Philly friend, and I can surprise him when I should ā€œyay!ā€ when the refs force game 7.

Lol Hartenstein already has 2 fouls.

Remember what I said a few days ago, Donnie?

And when they really want to get the job done, they send Scott Foster.

I read we have Scott Foster and crew tonight?

If true tonight’s already over, let’s start thinking about Game-7…

Someone please remind me why Scott Foster would be particularly bad for us tonight? Is it because of the theory that the NBA would like to extend this series? If so, I once again contend that the NBA would want to be careful about that, as extending the series would run counter to their desire for their team from New York City having a long run in the playoffs. They’d be playing with fire by forcing a Game 7, which could obviously go either way.

I read we have Scott Foster and crew tonight? Oh boy

    See y’all Saturday.

Does the NBA prefer having Embiid advance or the New York team advance? Or do they just want game 7?

    Let’s go conspirationists šŸ˜‰

List of “mainstream stars” likely to miss the 2nd Round:

    – LeBron
    – AD
    – Steph
    – Giannis
    – Dame
    – Playoffs Jimmy
    – Kawhi
    – PG-13
    – Harden

Can they afford to lose Embiid too?

Will NY potential viewers be enough to offset the losses in casual fans?

extending the series would run counter to their desire for their team from New York City having a long run in the playoffs.

The NBA doesn’t actually desire this, though. At least not enough to do something nefarious.

But a game 7 in prime time Saturday that generates $20MM in gate revenue and ad sales? That’s definitely something they want.

And when they want something really bad, Scott is their man. This is even in his wikipedia page:

Nicknamed “The Extender” because teams trailing in playoff series have often won games he has officiated, thus lengthening the number of games played,

Anyway the theory is that Foster was as dirty as Donaghy (and the circumstantial evidence is overwhelming… like Canadian wildfire levels of smoke) but the NBA covered it up because they needed to protect the integrity of the game and cast Donaghy as the only crooked ref. So the withheld the evidence of Foster’s gambling and now they have him in their pocket.

The entire idea behind labor throwing the 1919 World Series was to have as many gates as possible, so the participating players could get more money.

After that, they made it an explicit rule that World Series shares would only be based on four gates, regardless of how long the series went.

Management is under no such restrictions.

Anyway the theory is that Foster was as dirty as Donaghy (and the circumstantial evidence is overwhelmingā€¦ like Canadian wildfire levels of smoke) but the NBA covered it up because they needed to protect the integrity of the game and cast Donaghy as the only crooked ref. So the withheld the evidence of Fosterā€™s gambling and now they have him in their pocket.

Did this happen? I won’t say.

Could this have happened given David Stern’s mix of seething pit bull bitterness and lady-doth-protest-too-much (*) he displayed in the Donaghy affair?

    Absolutely.

(*) His *insistence* that Donaghy was a lying lone-wolf was so over-the-top that it had to have been staged.

FWIW I don’t actually think we’re going to lose this game because Scott Foster is the ref. I’ve always defaulted to incompetence over conspiracy.

Speaking of incompetence, Scott probably doesn’t even know that fouling out Hartenstein and Mitch is actually exactly what we need to get Thibs to defend the Embiid/Maxey PnR with OG and Precious.

Will NY potential viewers be enough to offset the losses in casual fans?

No disrespect to Embiid, but most casual fans in my opinion don’t really care about Joel Embiid. Yes he’s a “superstar” in this league, former MVP, but any series the Knicks are in will get far more viewers than Embiid and Philly would.

    Knicks Pacers
    Knicks Bucks
    Philly Bucks
    Philly Pacers

Knicks Pacers would rekindle that 90’s rivalry. They’ll be able to show footage of Reggie and Spike back in the day. You get east coast viewers, midwest viewers and west coast NYC transplant viewers.

Embiid is not Lebron or Steph or KD or even Giannis. No one who is a casual fan really cares about him.

Casual fans don’t really care about the Knicks, either, Swift. We’re worth just slightly more than the Sixers in viewership.

On the other hand, we’re talking about a prime time Saturday night TV slot where TNT can air either Game 7: Knicks v Sixers or NCIS: New Orleans. That’s the kind of payload someone might do dirty things for.

Most casual fans have never heard of anyone on the Knicks or, if they’re more well informed, will be confused why Julius Randle isn’t on the court.

Brunson barely beat out Maxey in the fan vote for the ASG, and that’s with the NY advantage.

Dynasty Game Changers GSW becoming nba’s most valued and profitable team shows something.
LoL Shitty Knicks of the last decades being in the same club as gsw shows something else.
Having analytics about how many times the player wiped his ass* while taking a shit but not caring AT ALL about game outcomes is as naive as believing in World Peace!

    *And with which finger!!!

Game 1 of Wolves Nuggets will be played Saturday night regardless if there is a Game 7 or not so TNT will have basketball that night one way or the other.

Fosterā€™s job is tricky because he needs the Sixers to win by more than 3 points to avoid the dreaded L2M.

is as naive as believing in World Peace!

World Peace exists, he punched Ben Wallace

“Having analytics about how many times the player wiped his ass* while taking a shit but not caring AT ALL about game outcomes is as naive as believing in World Peace!”

Huh? What does Ron Artest have to do with any of this?

(EBW beat me to it, as usual. šŸ™‚ )

When the blonde tv hostesses of the morning zone check their viewing numbers per 5m and try to decode what makes their shows more viewable and what’s not it’s silly to believe that nba lets everything in Lady Luck. But i may be wrong

“No one who is a casual fan really cares about him.”

    That’s because he’s a petulant, cancerous super-bitch!

Anxiety dreams this morning about being unable to get a bus ticket before the bus left. Not my usual MO. I could use a win tonight for my own health.

Let’s just all agree that the rules of the game is the main controlling part of making the product profitable. And most times protect the Stars and the entertaining side of the game.

Knicks have a losing record in games refereed by Scott Foster. My last memory of him is ejecting Hart for kicking someone in the head accidentally after being fouled. I’m not looking forward to seeing him tonight.

Why did the NBA gift Wemby to Pop, since he is likely on his way out soon and has a truly awful team around him?

@Henny Youngman: Where does one find stats for team records based on officiating referees? That’s pretty nuanced stuff right there.

Of course the league wants a Game 7 in this seriesā€¦ neither team is likely to come out of the East anyway (part of why I picked Knicks in 5 not 6).

We will have to shoot the lights out from three to win this one, which doesnā€™t seem super likely considering how Donte has been shooting.

I guess itā€™s all up to The Basketball Godsā„¢ļø now. Does anyone have a virgin we can sacrifice?

Game 6 of NYK – PHI
Where Optimist, Conspirator and Realist in me all meet…and curse one another!

We could use a Donte hits 45% of his 3PTAs game tonight really badly

Wouldn’t matter, DRed. Scott Foster is officiating the game. He’ll say that DDV’s foot was on the line or that the ball left his hands 0.1 seconds too late or some such nonsense.

Not a Scott Foster conspiracy theorist but “The Extender” is an all time nickname

I know. That was kind of my point.

Your point is that bc they didnā€™t rig an audited lottery they wouldnā€™t take minor lengths to extend a series if possible?

@Doobie Someone posted it on Twitter recently, but I couldn’t find it today.

There’s the other theory that Foster does it to shave points. We don’t even need to bring the NBA into it.

the knicks’ record in scott foster games since 1996 is 52-66, 44.1%. the knicks’ overall record over that period is 995-1226, 44.8%.

Well shit guys, seems like we already lost tonight’s game in our hearts. I’m not even going to bother with the usual prophecies of doom!

I’m gonna make a real effort to stay away from the game thread today, and maybe avoid watching the game live. I don’t think I want to invest any more emotional energy into the Knicks unless we advance, so I am gonna try and temporarily (hopefully!) shift into offseason mode.

May our preferred group of millionaire giants win tonight’s contest of our favorite children’s game, that we may join together in shared jubilation!

“May our preferred group of millionaire giants win tonightā€™s contest of our favorite childrenā€™s game, that we may join together in shared jubilation!”

Pags best post ever by far!

the knicksā€™ record in scott foster games since 1996 is 52-66, 44.1%. the knicksā€™ overall record over that period is 995-1226, 44.8%.

If we won 1 more game and lost 1 less game under Foster, then we’d be just about spot on (44.9%).

So the only conclusion you can draw is that he’s clearly biased and cost us 1 game.

Scott Foster if you read kb We Love You man!
    All we want is 50-50
    Don’t listen to your boss!
Make it the *Butch Coolidge game*!

5 things that need to happen for us to win game 6 tonight:

    – Brunson is Brunson
    – Devo is pre-playoffs Devo
    – Deuce is good Deuce
    – Embiid continues to look like a 75 year old man “running'” up and down the court
    – Maxey becomes human

dmar, depends on your definition of ‘human.’ Maxey has had a hell of a break-out year and is now a definitive star. If ‘containing him to 30’ qualifies as human, then yes. Hopefully Thibs and company will game-plan a way to do that without leaving holes elsewhere.

Guys itā€™s a fun bit this whole Scott Foster thing but the game isnā€™t really rigged tonight weā€™ll be fine.

I was actually convinced this shit was real when I was younger and I remember having a fit when Bennett Salvatore was assigned to ref game 6 Knicks Celtics in 2013 bc he had the extender reputation, too. We won that game just fine.

When you think itā€™s a conspiracy, itā€™s usually incompetence.

Apparently Foster as the extender of series is a false narrative.

If we win tonight I propose that we rechristen Scott Foster forthwith as “The Terminator.”

Since 2006 when Scott Foster works a game 6 the team that is UP 3-2 is 16-5 overall (and 14-7 vs the spread).

Wow this oneā€™s in the bag for us!

I wish I could find it and I don’t remember the time frame they were looking at, but the point was that Knicks had a lower winning percentage in games Foster did relative to other refs.

The right metric for The Extender isnā€™t extensions versus all Game 6s; itā€™s extensions versus impactable Game 6s.

SFF isnā€™t gonna be able to stop a team up 3-2 from closing if theyā€™re up 30 with two minutes to go in the third.

Incompetence and SFoster don’t really scare me. But the stare that my magic-cat gave me today wasn’t very promising….
Of course i can change things easily by “sacrificing” a chicken souvlaki before the game for her magic powers!

Thanks Max and Farfa. I probably won’t wake up for it, but who knows.

So is Pags really Geo? Geo already pulled it off with Captain Fantastic (great movie) who posted for a while undetected.

Geo, you should change your handle to Mystery Geo. It’s a good handle.

geo and Pags as Knickerblogger posters are about as opposite as they can be! geo is all sunshine and rainbows and happy Cro-Magnon men, and Pags is, well…….not.

I’m not sanguine, because they’re a good team and we’re on the road and even if we win sunshine could get hurt (hi Mitch!). But this is a very, very resilient team. They will fight, and if we just have some regression to the mean from DiVo and iHart, we’ll be fine.

geo and Pags as Knickerblogger posters are about as opposite as they can be!

This is what makes the idea intriguing I guess, me as the dark id to Geo’s caring ego. Just noticed geo is an anagram of ego… coincidence?

Seriously though, I’m not Geo’s alter ego any more than I’m E’s. I’ve already copped to formerly being arguably the most hated poster in the history of the board, so it should be pretty clear that I’m not in the business of hiding behind anything but a faceful of clown make-up.

I can also tell by the writing style. Even if one was attempting to hide their identity by writing differently, the variance is just too stark in this case. šŸ™‚

Used to fear clowns when i was a kid but i like pagliacci!
He blends italian prog rock, doom and troll with quite an artistic way.
I guess that he gives an avant garde dimension to this extremely colourful blog.

I have so much anxiety today and cannot focus on work at all.

I’d like to get to this game. Feel like if we lose I will be less anxious about game 7 but for some reason this one has me REALLY anxious.

The 9pm east coast start is crazy. We have one TV in our living room where I can watch the game and my wife will have gone to bed by the time the second quarter starts. So I had to make a promise to her that if I stayed up to watch it, I would be quiet.

So I’m going to be silently screaming in my head with the volume down low tonight, praying for a victory.

I feel like we can win game 7 but if we lose tonight and there is a game 7, our chances of winning the next series go down A LOT. The idea of facing a potentially rested Pacers team that likes to run and gun with only one day off after a grueling 7 game series scares me.

Anyone know what the rationale is behind this ridiculous start time?

Did they schedule something else for 7:30 with 30 seconds left in G5 or something?

    They want a double header.

In which case it would make sense for an Eastern time zone game to come before the one in Central, wouldn’t it?

This is like having a West coast game start before an East game.

I can also tell by the writing style. Even if one was attempting to hide their identity by writing differently, the variance is just too stark in this case.

Doogie, search for Captain Fantastic posts on this site. I think from 3-4 years ago. See if you recognize the style.

My mom is in a play tonight at the senior living facility where she lives… and I am having dinner before the play with my step father who is in the memory care unit in the same facility…effectively all this will happen while the game is on…how i will be able to check the score during the play is going to be challenging ….probably saving me from some possible adverse medical stuff if I was going to be watching…probably going to be a last possession game again..

Every game in this series is gonna end up being like the JFK shooting, isn’t it? Everyone’s gonna remember where they were.

For my part on the west coast, the game will be ending right around my son’s bath and bedtime routine. Hoping I have the self-discipline to keep from checking the score so I can spare him an inexplicable groan of agony as I read about Maxey breaking Jordan’s single playoff game scoring record or Embiid scoring 50 points on like 7 made field goals.

Indianapolis is actually on EDT. And the shitty game always gets the early start. They’re not going to put Knicks-Sixers on at 6:30.

At the very least I hope this game doesn’t start 25 minutes late like every other NBA game.

    awwwww, you rock darules…

I’ve tried the anonymous thing a few times…was just curious how my basketball takes would take…

the thought of playing a role/character/whatever though rubs me as disingenuous…I don’t wanna fool no one here, be deceitful…

I’m super paranoid, so deception in general really bothers me…

    I look for it everywhere…

    I’m here because I need you all…

I’ve mentioned several times now, but when I hit around 50 I started doing a bunch of research in to how to age successfully…

diet, excersise, sleep of course were up at the top of the list for growing old well…

what surprised me though was the importance of socialization…being connected with others…

I’m not sure how much is a result of the head injury, how much is my basic code – but yeah, it’s really hard for me to stay connected…

KB is a big part of my strategy for growing old well…

I need for you all to be as well as possible…to be kind to one another…

I’m gonna pick the boys up tonight, my plan is to leave the house at 6pm to go get them…

My dream is to be asleep at 10pm and wake up to good news but I doubt I can pull that off.

Now you’re talking. When cryo-sleep is invented, my primary use case will be to bypass uncomfortable Knicks games.

Time to take a little pregame nap. It’s going to be a long night. I took tomorrow off.

Right. Iā€™m on the train, arriving in Philly in 20 mins. 9pm start time has thrown me slightly and from what I can tell from ESPN Iā€™ll now be the only Knicks fan in the building. I plan to do a quick walking tour of the city, shovel down a cheesesteak and a couple of IPAs then turn up and make enough noise to make up for the 2000 knick fans those evil sixers douche owners have excluded. I will be leaning heavily on this board throughout the game for moral support, and if I post ā€˜99ā€™ at any point Iā€™ve accidentally got in a fight with some sizers fans and need someone to send help.

(I jest – Iā€™m 43 and Iā€™ve never been in a fight in my life. Donā€™t imagine Iā€™ll start now).

Doogie – sizers in my last post was an autocorrect, before you say anything.

Also when I started typing Doogie it autocorrected to Doofus. Seems a bit harsh but it did make me chuckle.

dang english knick – that sounds like a pretty fine day your having…stay safe and bring home the win (which many of us will be too stressed to even watch live)…

be brave for the rest of us…

    mmmmm, cheese steak…yum…

    those evil sixers douche owners

Such an embarrassing moveā€”one the Basketball Gods will clearly frown upon.

Let’s go English Knick! I was very tempted to fly up from Charlotte. Enjoy!

Headline in The Athletic ā€” ā€œ Michael Rubin buys 2,000 tickets for Game 6: ā€˜We cannot let Knicks fans take over our arena againā€™ā€

I don’t get how Rubin is, like, “They should be given to first responders” or whatever. Uhm. didn’t he buy them? Can’t he just do that?

I started watching the game on the 4th quarter just before everything went to pot.

I’m happy to not watch the game today just in case (it’s on at 11am Australian time when I’m supposed to be pretending to be working on my office)

Iā€™m here! Literally. Cheesesteak, done. Liberty bell – done. Only one item left to tick offā€¦ Knicks win?
