The general consensus is that the ideal frontcourt partner for Porzingis would need to have two essential traits: plus rebounding ability, and enough quickness to guard stretch fours on the perimeter. Looks like we may have found our man. Obviously it’s no guarantee that Robinson is going to develop into a good player, but if he does, he’s the ideal TYPE of player to fit next to KP.

What if Robinson is KG-like in defending the PnR? He could be a nightmare trapping the PnR. Frank & Mitch would discombobulate opposing offenses if they take away the PnR. Then you’d have to play Mitch at the 5. Our defense was fine when KP played the 4. However, if Mitch has got Amare like spatial awareness….well I don’t want to even think about that possibility.

KP’s probably happy about Mitch being on the team but that might not last very long if Mitch excels at defending in space and hits his free throws. Soon might be Mitch’s team. KP might think he’s the Batman in this tandem but Mitch “Don’t Call Me Robin” Son will have something to say about that.

Knox was a combo of the Cektics defending him well, his shot not falling when he got open, and the Knicks playing without a real point guard. Which brings us to Trier, who might be a poor man’s Lou Williams one day but does few favors to the guys he’s playing alongside.

This “developmental year” for the young guys will help cause the much needed tank. Everybody wins: the young guys get minutes, experience, and hopefully great coaching and the losses pile up ensuring a good chance at a much needed top 3 pick.

That stat line for Robinson is plain ridiculous. Hopefully most of that transfers to NBA games. Knox definitely has a lot of talent but needs to cut down on the turnovers and get more consistent. Troy Williams had a good summer league, maybe they have something useful there. Trier looked good in spurts, needs to improve on his 3 point shooting and defense.

Dotson looked absolutely terrible on both ends.

Fizdale has his work cut out for him, this year will be challenging to say the least.

I know I’m about to poke at a hornets’ nest (cult of Luka) but it wouldn’t be *that* surprising if Knox ended up being better than Luka.

It probably was more take Bazemore, swap picks, take out protection from your 2019 pick, and give us an unprotected 2021 pick also. And if ATL was taking Clarkson also, it’d probably include other 1st round pick swaps in addition. Even in that context it’d be worth considering, but no way it was as simple as “take Bazemore and we’ll swap #3 for #8”.

Kevin Knox has a chance to be a better defender and a higher usage scorer than Luka Doncic, but to be the better basketball player? Something would have to go terribly wrong with Doncic like not being able to control his weight (like I don’t think even LeBron was 230 at 19).

I do think Mitchell Robinson has the chance to be a .300 WP48/.200 WS48 type of guy though. If he’s really the next guy up in the Chandler, DJ, Capela lineage, it’ll be hard to miss the playoffs in his prime. Call me crazy, but I’m already worried about a trade for 30 year old Jimmy Butler (followed by a 4 year max) centered around Knox and Robinson. I hope we keep those two unless Anthony Davis becomes available.

I think there’s probably something for awkward guys who didn’t start playing until high school, because the theory is that they have more room to improve on their skills. Like, for instance, Tim Duncan obviously took to basketball super well right away after giving up swimming, but imagine if he had struggled a bit early on. You could see the argument, “He started so late, so let’s give him more time.” So I think it makes some sense in that context.

But yes, I agree that in this particular instance, it doesn’t seem like there’s anything to the Knox stuff either way. He just didn’t concentrate on basketball until he was 15, which seems effectively meaningless.

The ocean is full of plastic and its because of our throw away consumer culture. You can go on and on about personal freedom, America, etc…but the fact is that we’re all fucked if we don’t seriously change our consumption habits. Maybe we’re grasping at straws with the straw thing but we have to do something. Even if you don’t believe in global warming, its also about using up all of our resources and turning the planet into a trash dump. Personally I don’t want that.

The real problem is that the onus is on the consumer to change their behavior and habits while no one is asking the plastic manufacturers to stop making this garbage. It reminds me of the gun debate. We focus on limiting them and passing laws but we don’t ask the gun manufacturers to slow down or stop production.

I used to think that the American public needed to see new evidence on an indictment to accept the claims of a prosecutor as fact before going to trial. But I was wrong. It’s apparent now that any prosecutor can make a claim and it will be accepted as Gospel. You guys got me again with your high level of scrutiny and interrogation of the evidentiary material.

If you read what I wrote, I never once said capitalism was evil. I said our “consumer culture” is the problem and that the onus is always put on the individual to change their habits instead of making the corporations change their habits. In this country it takes a herculean effort to not be wasteful because unless you live in a super liberal crunchy granola place like Portland or Seattle, most of what you are able to buy is throw away. Companies build in “planned obsolesence (sp?)” into the products they make now so that you have to buy the new version of said product in a few years.

Think about our grandparents. Even back in the 40s and 50s if you went to buy say a piece of furniture, that piece of furniture was built to last a lifetime. I have pieces of furniture in my apartment that were handed down from my great grandparents that are beautiful and still in great shape. Now everyone buys Ikea and throws it away in 5 years. This is a relatively new development in our spending habits and sure, its convenient but its also not sustainable.

As far as government interference..what do you think is easier. Getting people to drive their cars less so they use less fuel or getting car makers to raise fuel efficiency standards? The first option means changing the day to day habits of millions of people. The later means getting a few companies to sack up and let their profits dip by half a percentage point while they do what’s best for the planet.

I wish this site maintained a link listing all of the Nets type deals so we could simply link to it everytime someone says a Timmy/Lance/Baker type deal is no big whup.

If you have a few hours you should watch a documentary called “Who Killed The Electric Car.” Its from a few years back and today we do have electric cars out there but that technology has been around for a very long time but the oil companies actively lobbied washington to keep it at bay.

In Florida it is ILLEGAL to have your own renewable power source to power your home. You have to be connected to the grid and suck power from the power companies. This law exists bc the power companies in florida used their power and influence over the state politicians to pass those laws. Its fucked up. How is that freedom?

The lack of democracy in the US (corporate donations, limited voter rights, low turnout, lack of publicly funded elections, etc.) is a distinct (but related) issue from the economic system. The only new proof presented in the entire document is an edited excerpt from email exchange between Wikileaks and Guccifer with the latter contacting the former and former asking the latter for any new information to examine for distribution. And even that email didn’t prove the allegation that people in Wikileaks knew Guccifer 2.0 was a Russian agent or were aware this supposed information was stolen.

When Mueller comes out and shows everyone the new evidence of Russian cyberhacking of the DNC server, you can say you were right and that was his investigation was clearly pursuing this claim. So far he made 12 indictments on 12 people he knows he’ll never have to take to trial. But until then you’re accepting the charges made by a prosecutor at face value with the hope that he’s going to offer you more evidence that confirms your bias. Talk about Mueller endowment effect.

Ultimately, any law results in you locked up in a cage if you don’t comply. Take a traffic ticket. If you don’t pay it there will be a warrant issued. If you don’t show up to court either men with guns will come to your house and arrest you, or the next time you encounter a cop they’ll run you for warrants, find the outstanding warrant, and arrest you.

The thing is straws aren’t being “banned.” They are just not going to be available for free when you got to Starbucks. That’s a very different thing than banning them.

I’ll say this. Every morning I come into work and pour myself a cup of coffee. We have plastic stirrer straws in our kitchen. Once this straw thing got into the news, I stopped grabbing one to stir my coffee with. So all it took for me was just a simple awareness to change my behavior. Of course, I’m a vegetarian who drives a prius and rides his bike to work, so maybe I’m more susceptible to that kind of thing.

Yeah, I mean the law here in California that’s being proposed is that restaurants are not to give out straws unless you ask for them. This hardly sounds like some sort of oppressive law.

If people start getting criminally charged for using a plastic straw, I will agree with you that the balance between protecting individual freedoms and protecting the environment has become out of whack.

The problem with this hill you’re dying on is I have not seen one fucking proposal to that effect. I have seen proposals in various places aimed at limiting the distribution, and thus eventually the production, of plastic straws. These proposals are in response to verified information that shows plastic straws have a negative effect on the environment.

It is so god damn difficult for me to imagine someone with half a brain finding any of that to be objectionable, but then again there are posters I otherwise respect arguing that one of the most high-profile criminal investigations in American history is one big hoax.

@116 The government makes it hard to vote in a variety of ways: voter IDs laws, voter registration, no vote-by-mail (in many places), no national holiday, felony disenfranchisement, etc. The outcome is generally that poor people (and disproportionately minorities) are less likely to vote. DC and our territories (i.e. colonies) lack representation, and the territories can’t vote for president. Then you have issues like gerrymandering and even the electoral college, which often produce undemocratic results.

Also, in 2013, the Supreme Court invalidated the part of the Voting Rights Act that required federal approval before allowing certain states to change their election laws.

@110, even if the lids use more plastic, they may be more recyclable. Straws are too small to recycle and end up in landfills. If they make the lids out of the right plastic they’ll be able to recover the plastic and remove plastic from landfills.
