2024-25 Game Thread – Knicks vs. Pacers – HOME OPENER, PEOPLE!

Okay, after a disappointing start to the season, the Knicks could really use an ass-whooping of the Pacers tonight in front of their home fans.

So let’s hope that we get just that.

The Pacers only added one player of any note this offseason, James Wiseman, and now he is out for the season. That’s rough.

Won’t be able to watch the game but I do hope the Knicks becomes a dominant home team again. Even the past couple of years they haven’t had a dominant homecourt advantage as they did in the 90’s.

So pissed that BOTH this home opener and the WS are on broadcast TV! I’m gonna have to record both.

I think Thibideau likes Sims rim defense. At the end of the first quarter he was doing offense defense substitutions with Towns and Sims. And , to my eyes Sims has been better defending the rim and also gets rebounds.

For those of you that can’t pull yourselves away from this October basketball game, the Dodgers injured many baseballs in the first inning but have nothing to show for it. (Gonna be a stressful 108 outs to the title if they’re all hit like that)

One of the reasons I stopped watching the Yankees is Boone. He always defers to stats instead of sticking with what’s working. I didn’t know if that had anything to do with tonight, but it annoys the fuck out of me.

How can you go with a pitcher just off the injury list in a situation like that?

Question for people who have watched baseball within the last 15 years: if the runners hadn’t advanced when the left fielder fell into the stands catching Ohtani’s foul ball would the Yankees have pitched to Betts, or still gone lefty v lefty? (Back then they would have brought in a righty to face Betts, but apparently you can’t do that anymore. That’s why I’m wondering where the conventional wisdom stands these days)

I think it was a pick your poison situation. Betts has been much better lately, and Freeman has been injured and slumping. Not unreasonable to create a force at every bag and pitch to Freeman in that scenario. The real critique IMO is just whether Cortes was the right guy in that spot.

I’ve never seen the “fielder falls into stands with ball and therefore the runners get a base” thing before. No idea if that’s new. I’m guessing they pitch to Betts with runners on first and second but no idea
