The personal attacks need to stop. We’re all hypocrites to some degree when it comes to supporting or not supporting athletes or artists based on their personal life. We all have lines in the sand and will cross them for our own exceptions. Going after people on this blog for their personal lives is uncalled for.

Was listing to Kris Pursiainen and Prez on the Knicks Film School draft podcast. Prez seems much higher on Rokas than our own European contingent, arguing that Rokas’ greatest strength is pick-and-roll offense, which he says Euro teams don’t use nearly as much as NBA teams do, and that there’s also politics at play in terms of vets getting minutes.

I have no idea if there’s any truth to this or if he’s just doing some fanboy rationalizations. Just passing that along.

If he wants to be on the team, Rokas needs to come to summer league. No excuses!

Alan, I think there’s some level of truth in there*, but at the same time no one ever stopped Luka or Wemby from dominating games as teenagers.

With Barcelona the best skill Rokas has shown is his passing, countered by his reluctance to shoot, but he usually takes more shots when he plays for Lithuania and he gets more playing time and a bigger margin for error (he can make mistakes without the risk of being benched immediately).

If the expectations are “rational” and we don’t expect a saviour I think he can be in the running for the 3rd string PG spot, and while his dribble isn’t anything special he’s a good “orchestrator”.
He’s an eager defender with a nice frame but his center of gravity could be a problem, I’d be very curious to watch how his relationship with Thibs would work.

He’ll play in the SL and then we’ll see.

    * The “veterans politics” take is bullshit.
European teams, with one glaring exception (Wemby and the recently folded Paris Metropolitans 92) play to win Leagues, Cups or avoid relagation, not to nurture players for the NBA and, ubertalents aside, playing veterans players is the surest way to win games, just like in the NBA…

The entire situation could have been avoided if that particular poster didn’t go out of his way to ardently defend a guy who trafficked in antisemitic propaganda without any remorse, and then follow it up by advocating for the (zero percent chance of happening) acquisition of a guy who choked and beat a women to a pulp in front of his two children. What is the rationale for doing that? Why is it that only one poster does that? What does that say about him?

Outside of the context of that argument, I had shared a personal anecdote about a special moment with my son. That poster chose to bring that experience and mock it, not once, but repeatedly. It would have been nice if someone asked that poster to cease and desist right then and there.

I’ve said all I need to say on this matter and stand by my characterizations. For the betterment of the blog, I will go back to not interacting with that poster, so long as he doesn’t bring me up out of the blue as he has been prone to doing. He’s all yours.

Speaking of euros, according to reliable sources former EL MVP Sasha Vezenkov didn’t like his role in the run and gun Kings and asked for a trade (or an agreement to fly back to Euroleague) and while his numbers aren’t impressive I think he could be a good player in the right environment, especially after paying his “NBA adjustment” dues this year…

6’9″/225, next year salary is 6.6M then he has a club option at 7M.
According to BBRef he spent 64% of his pt at PF, 30% at SF and 6% at C with the Kings.

There’s zero chances the Knicks are interested but let a man dream 😉

I always appreciate the utter lack of self-awareness some posters here have.

Quite frankly it says nothing (of substance) about him. It says he looked into the Irving retweeting stuff and came to this conclusion that Irving isn’t some George Lincoln Rockwell clone. I’m only guessing he thinks Irving is a gifted player who isn’t the sharpest knife in the draw and misguidedly fell under the influence of some bigots. He has no educational background to understand the issue and how other people feel about it. Once he was attacked for something he obviously didn’t get, and threatened with the loss of huge money, he unwisely dug his toes in and gave a half-hearted allocution that would have made Galileo blush. Anything to avoid the fate of Giordano Bruno. My wife is a very liberal Jewish CUNY professor and I understand your personal feelings.

Having that opinion (about Irving) doesn’t make Hubert some sort of a despicable human.

    IMO

does anyone else find Bob’s way too often exceedingly reasonable takes on things distressing…

I thought you were supposed to be crazy Bob…what happened?

also, i think i remember that the Neptune part wasn’t about Neptune City, NJ (which i used to go to a club at)…but Neptune, FL…

This is good content, but I’m gonna need way more from you guys since I’m sick in bed with the China virus. At least give me some wild draft takes pls.

I got nothing today and know bupkis about college hoops, so I’ll just mention that I watched A Million Ways to Die in the West again last night, which is stupid and infantile and slightly charming, but was stunned to notice that Ryan Reynolds is the nobody who gets randomly shot in a bar by bad guy Liam Neeson. Literally on screen for under three seconds.

I’ve started looking at scouting reports/videos for the top picks. Sarr stands out as the clear #1 to me. Then things become murky. The two other Frenchies look promising. Castle seems like a jack of all trades master of none. I’m not all that impressed with Clingan (slow and stiff, I like Edey way better in that prototype), Topic (can finish with either hand but broken shot), or Sheppard (don’t like O’Connor’s Derrick White comp at all, he’s much smaller). Buzelis is a bit raw but has a nice game that to build on. Knecht seems like a NBA-ready shooter but he’s old and not very good on D, I like O’Connor’s Strus comp.

The Baylor big Yves Missi seems like a decent prospect if we need a center

I like Missi as a developmental big. Size and athleticism are both solid pluses, and he is regarded as a guy with a high motor who will give lots of effort. It’s not hard to imagine Thibs coaching that guy up into a reasonable facsimile of Mitch.

I agree re: Missi, but he seems to be rising. I don’t think he’ll be there at #24. Bona might be a decent option in the 2nd round. He’s very long and athletic.

Bona is a bit undersized and looks incredibly raw from the clips I’ve watched. I’m not sure he fits the FOs draft profile

Missi seems like a reasonable high-floor bet at #24 or #25 but he seems ultra raw to me, like someone who will be a split-second behind and will thus foul a lot and get burned on PnRs and switches. He’s very young, but even so, I don’t see a whole lot of short-term upside. Personally I’d rather take a short-term upside bet on a non-big like Dunn or bet on a high-ceiling/low-floor kid like Dadiet, Flowers, or Furphy than go for him. Of the more notable bigs who might potentially be available, meaning Edey, Filipowski or Missi, he’s at the bottom of my short list. If both are available and I’m determined to take a big, I’d also have to take a long, hard look at Kel’el Ware, who has some skills but there are motor/toughness issues.

So I’m at this dude ranch and was doing some cattle driving. Guess what the name of the horse they paired me with was. Sure. I’ll tell ya. His name was Gypsy, a boy named Gypsy. We really liked each other and we taught those yearlings to respect Gypsy’s authority. Saw a bald eagle and a couple of bird watchers on the river. Bird watchers…. Ha ha

Oh that’s Derek Trucks? I remember seeing him when he was a 15-year-old freakshow on guitar. Nephew of Allman Bros. drummer Butch Trucks.

If he wants to be on the team, Rokas needs to come to summer league. No excuses!

In one of the links at the top it says Rokas will play in Summer League unless Lithuania makes it to the Olympics. I can’t argue with that.

“So… turns out the Tedeschi Trucks band is really good.”

Well that confirms it, I’m gonna buy tickets for when they are in Saratoga in the end of August. Does anyone have any info about good seats at the SPAC?

clarence – is this work related?

or, did you get the notion to go do this yourself?

or, are you there on someone else’s behest (friend/family)?

i haven’t even been on a horse since i was a kid…at some point i’d like very much to visit a dude ranch in montana…

i love westerns, like really love westerns…i heard it hurts though, riding a horse…like maybe worse than riding one of them road bicycles with those tiny seats…

RIP Chet Walker, one of the unsung HOF players from the ’60’s and ’70’s, was a 7X all-star and a starter on the championship 76ers with Wilt, which was thought to be the greatest team of all time, probably at least until the Bird-Magic era. Here’s some highlights.

I haven’t been to SPAC since I took my mom (or did she take me? I can’t remember if I was even old enough to drive) to see Santana open for Bob Dylan, back in the early 90s. So can’t help you with the seating chart there. I’d say, in a perfect world, get seats as close as you can on the stage right center side. That’s where Trucks is stationed the entire time. And though you can’t go wrong focusing in on anybody from the prodigious duodectet they’ve assembled, he really is in a class by himself when it comes to the slide guitar.

I’m in Vegas for a national College Sports Communicators convention. I won a reimbursement grant worth up to a grand, and thought I was gonna be ballin. But the room came out to $900 for the 4-day stay lol. Good thing I can still claim mileage and meal reimbursement from the school lol.

Looks like i missed another flame war. I always thought Kyrie was a top-10 player even though I can’t cosign with the shit that comes out of his mouth. I’m always more of a “grab the talent first and figure out the other stuff later” guy, but I’m glad the Ks are at a point they’re no longer desperate for talent where they’d have to hold their nose on a guy.*

*saying this as someone who rooted for Sprewell. Though I’d argue choking a coach is considerably less despicable than being antisemitic or a DV abuser.

Geo, it’s a family adventure. I’m quite smitten I have to say. Move to Montana so that strapping men show up at my doorstep and ask me to hang from their arms? Fever dream indeed.

Work is taking me to Tel Aviv in a few days. I can’t wait for pride on that beach.

Thanks, Donnie. My son has become a huge Duane Allman fan, as am I. Trucks is about as close as you can get, I suppose. He’s transferring to Skidmore as a junior so hopefully we’ll take in a few events there in the next couple of years.
