I get the whole “develop the young players” goal, but Mudiay and Hezonja are not good basketball players at this stage. Neither is particularly likely to make it with this team long term. Frank was dreadful, but I’d still rather him get playing time than Mudiay. If Frank was sick or something, then Ron Baker is a better prospect than Mudiay. As bad as he is on offense, at least he’s good on one side of the ball. Same with Robinson. Kanter was playing hard and deserves minutes, but Robinson should have been out there until he fouled out.
I can’t believe that Frank was the 8th pick in the draft. He shouldn’t even be a Top 10 pick in the G-League draft.
Even Job would be losing his patience with Frank.
Baker has a sub .200 TS%- he’s pretty much unplayable. While I’d just as soon waive Mudiay and take a flyer on a g-league guy if he’s going to play I’d like to see him get a few more minutes with Robinson- Mudiay is the only one of the points who actually plays north/south- he reliably pushes the ball in transition and does get to the basket a bit in the half court- so why not see if he can do a better job of getting Robinson involved than Frank is doing at the moment. I’m not suggesting starting Mudiay- I really, really want Frank to succeed at the point- but just stagger the rotations a bit so Robinson gets more run with Mudiay. Of course just suggesting that any minutes from Mudiay would improve anything on the basketball court tells you where the talent level on this team is currently- Zion is still very much in play.
there’s no reason for us to give up on any of the young guys this early…. it’s not like we have a glut of talent to be doing that… that includes seeing what you have in baker and mudiay for the whole season….
Frank 0-6 for zero pints on the night. I get that his defense is usually good, but c’mon he needs to show a little more on offense to make it worthwhile to keep him on the floor.
Perspective. Second game on a back to back on the road without their best scorer.
Ntilikina is just a bad player.
I don’t understand the obsession with pretending he has some sort of ‘upside’. The sooner our front office accepts he is a drafting mistake, the sooner a correction can be attempted.
The ‘youth movement’ needs to show some talent or potential for it. Right now, the team seems terribly constructed. Phil Jackson’s lasting legacy.
Mudiay sucks, but he looked more like a pure PG last night than Frank ever did, or probably ever will.
Frank is an excellent NBA-level defensive prospect. His career success hinges on being able to shoot at least in the high 30’s from 3 on more than 5 attempts per 36. anything less than that and he’s not really an NBA rotation player. It’s been painfully obvious since back in Strasbourg. But whatever, let’s keep running him out there, maybe he proves me wrong. (don’t bet on it.)
