Trier is basically havinga 50/40/90 season (53/43/88.5) as of right now. And it doesn’t look unsustainable somehow. He shot 50/38/86.5 his last year of college.
64 TS on 19.5 usage as a rookie (albeit an older one) is pretty special. His handle, creativity around the basket, and shooting ability look a lot to me like Kyrie Irving TBH.
I’m telling you Trier will be a Star.

Carlyle is right, these guys play a relentless game. You put effort and athleticism together and they are going to exhaust most teams. Dallas seemed overwhelmed.
Super small sample of course but MitchRob is essentially having a peak Tyson Chandler-type of statistical impact so far…except he’s 20 and Tyson didn’t reach the height of his powers until his late 20s.
I’ve been on the Robinson train since the summer. We scored a top-4 draft pick in the 2nd round. I also think we scored a mid-1st with Trier. Credit to the front office.
Robinson is so raw but his athleticism is off the charts. He dominated D’Andre Jordan. I’m trying to get that to sink in. My mind can’t quite accept that. But it’s salivating to think what he can become with a year of coaching and experience. His post-up game needs work. He can’t really create his own shot. He doesn’t like taking jumpers. He’s out of position a lot under the boards. His post-up game needs work. He commits stupid fouls. All that can be coached. Imagine what he’ll be like in a year.
Trier. Trier! We needed a guard who could dribble, penetrate and score. His defense is just average but he schooled Dallas and took over the game at time. There were spurts where he went 1-on-5 and as the 1 kept scoring. They didn’t have an answer for him. It’ll take an elite defender to slow Trier down. And he went undrafted.
Who cares how many games we win. I just want to watch our kids run around, play and have fun.
Mario/Mudiay/Vonleh – Super Mario one night and Stupor Mario the next night…uh oh, Mudiay played well…Vonleh regression activated. All have shown flashes, issue is consistency on offense and Mario/Mudiay being better defenders
Trey – Looks like Trey might be the sweetener for a Courtney trade on Dec 15th. When Knox returns, there’s no minutes for Courtney.
Trier – I wanna know who in org found and pushed ZO this summer because this guy wasn’t on anybody’s radar. I don’t think it was Gaines. Whoever it was deserves a raise or promotion. I think the plan next year might be to give all the 1 and 2 minutes to THJ/Frank/Trier (about 32 minutes each). I almost hope Kyrie stays in Boston.
Dot – Looking more confident and comfortable out there. He won’t be a star but my hope is he’ll end up more than just a 3&D players. He and Timmy are our best players in transition and he looks more versatile on offense than guys like Snell and Courtney.
Mitch – I know there are a lot of Luka fanboys here but I will incur their wrath by saying I would take Mitch over Doncic in a redraft. If you erased everybody’s memory cells and had them watch the game, everybody would think Deandre was the raw rookie. Mitch affects game on both ends. Need more PnRs but the lob-dunk might be unstoppable in a few months once players nail positioning and timing. And did you notice the anticipation and speed on those steals? Perry owes Mitch’s agent his first-born for keeping him out of the combine and gifting him that dirt cheap 4-year deal.
Y’all realize we’re not getting a top 4 pick? We might be something like the 15th best team in the league. KD and Kawhi could be banging on the MSG doors to play here. Dark cloud: Mitch could hit the rookie wall very soon. Looked like he was about to keel over early in the game. Hope he doesn’t have similar stamina issues to KP.
It’s got nothing to do with him being on a 2-way; the issue is that we don’t have cap space. That means we’d only able to convert his contract to a min deal or use the BAE. Both those options restrict length of deal to a max of 2 years. If we had 1-2m of free cap, we could give him a Mitch/Dot deal but who knows, he might not accept that. Trier is not lacking in confidence.
If we convert to a 2-year deal right away, we’d have early bird rights (a bit more than the MLE is max we could offer him) at end of those 2 years. He could be worth more than MLE at that time but we’d be over the cap at that time and could lose him to another team. It might be better to wait until the summer and convert to a 4-year deal. He’d be a restricted agent this summer but the most another team could offer him swould be a 2-way deal. We of course could match and Trier would have to play for us or sit out the year.
I recall Trier telling his agent that he wanted to be signed by the Knicks when he went undrafted. Don’t think we’ll have a problem re-signing him.
I think guys like Trier, Vonleh, and Hezonja wanted to play for the Knicks because they knew they’d get playing time (Knicks focused on identifying and developing young players). If they play well this year, money then rates to be more important to them.
Just for the record, Mudiay is our leading PER, WS/48 and BPA player right now with 24.1, .223 and +7.7 respectively. Oh yeah, his TS% is .60 🙂
I don’t like the Lou Williams to trier comp either. Cuz I don’t think truer is a 6th man…
He goes iso but it feels like it’s within the flow of the offense. It’s a primary’s attack unlike Lou who just creates his own shot. Also he is too young to be labeled a journeyman which is what a 6th man is usually.
I see a lot of Donovan Mitchell in his ability To get to the rim and to make big plays in pressure spots.
I would label thjr, Lee, kanter, 6th men before trier.
I see Trier as having the potential to be our future starting SG once KP and Knox get into the swing of things. He seems to be a better shotmaker than Hardaway and he also gets to the FT line more. I can’t tell yet defensively, but if he’s solid enough I don’t see why he can’t be the starter based on this very early stage of observation. It’s not like Hardaway is a stopper. 🙂

As long as Knox isn’t a revolving door on defense that’s a solid 2-way starting lineup to go forward with. Vonleh, Hardaway, and Dotson off the bench. That’s before we add a draft pick and any free agents.

He looks like a dead ringer for Lou Williams. Slashing, crafty guy who creates his own shot with ease, has no problem using his body with finesse to create space, finishes strong at the rim. They have virtually identical bodies too.
I don’t see it… Lou is a passer not a scorer although he can score.
If the tank gets derailed and the Knicks end up with their usual 8th or 9th overall pick, the players who seem likely to be available are a bunch of wings and bigs. If the Knicks can’t land a Barrett/Zion/Little franchise talent type guy, the next best thing would be to snag a quality point guard, but this draft looks very thin on point guards.
Maybe some more players will emerge during the NCAA season but I’m not seeing a lot of guys who look like a good fit should the Knicks fall much below 5 or 6 in the draft.
