Tough loss.
Mitch Johnson seems to have done a much better job making his moronic team go to the basket more often, and it worked out beautifully for them.
And yet the Knicks never quit, and still had a chance in the end. Good for them!

Brown going ballistic on refs in PG presser.
Free throw disparity
Mikal a ghost
Towns taking 2 threes -need to shoot way more
Shamet 1 made shot
Deuce – zero points
Mitch was useless. 7 minutes. He has been disappointing in the playoffs . Even against Cleveland he wasn’t good.
Maybe get someone else on the court to handle the ball more
Fuck Wemby.
Fuck Trump.
Fuck the refs.
Fuck Adam Silver.
And FUCK YOU Mike Breen you spineless coward.
Some of the guys, especially KAT, were just too reluctant to shoot. Seemed like almost every time they hesitated to shoot the 3, it ended up being a busted possession.
Put those shots up aggressively!
I suppose I’m happy I didn’t have the sound on.
Normal basketball considerations don’t really matter. The league is essentially spotting the Spurs 10+ points each game with the insane one sided officiating and they’ve now shown they’ll do it at home and in consecutive games.
Maybe they’ll stop when we’re 2-2, but then we’re at a huge disadvantage. Winning game 2 turned out to mean nothing because they just rigged game 3 even harder.
I can’t suspend disbelief anymore. They just went too far with it. Like why do we even care what happens?
It would be so much better to have just been completely outclassed. At least then it would have been about basketball. They’ve ruined the illusion.
Brown calling out the refs comes two games too late. He should have done that in San Antonio when they literally butchered us twice in a row. Tonight we didn’t lose because of the refs, but the refs are part of it, for sure.
Derek Jeter was at the game
Also saw Howard Lutnick et al. in their seats on the floor.
FWIW, I actually have one (and I do mean ONE) coworker who’s a Laker fan but not a troll. And even she’s saying shit had been rigged in the Spurs favor.
Of course it’s rigged they have a face of the league they are trying to promote so they are going to favor his team. The leagues bullshit is obvious.
Mike brown “ the team didn’t move on offense tonight , just standing and looking”
And 1 Hubert. Well I haven’t heard Breen yet. I think I chose to wear the wrong shirt and underpants to the game.
Defense wins championships. We allowed the Spurs to score a combined 68 points in quarters 1 and 3. We were too loose. This is where the main problem was tonight. We scored 91 points in the first three quarters. This should have been plenty to take us to the fourth well ahead of them and with good momentum. Alas.
The Spurs D is excellent, but they know how to beat it: keep moving without the ball.
JK is also right: we haven’t played our best game yet. Maybe the loss will snap them back into commitment into their top-notch offensive and defensive habits
It’s remarkable how all three games have followed largely the same flow except the end.
Spurs jump ahead early. We punch back and take the lead. Spurs make another push and get ahead. In game one we came back. Game two they came back and held on. Game three we tried to come back but not enough.
But quarters one through three are largely the same.
Whether it’s Brunson or their defense, we have to find a way to help him and also get the ball and played moving. I’d try to play Alvarado a little more and try some two PG line ups. Turnovers killed us but also we hesitated on threes tonight.
I’m worried though. It’s very even despite us being up a game and the league is hell bent on anointing Wemby now even though he’s an asshole.
I also think being home kind of spooked us tonight. MSG is weird. Home court is huge but sometimes the spot light helps the road team and we get performance anxiety.
You know who should have called out the refs for their work in San Antonio?
THE GUY WHOSE JOB IT IS TO ANNOUNCE WHAT IS HAPPENING.
Instead it’s been rogue NBA tweeters and random podcasters doing it bc he’s been too craven to do it himself, and now Mike Brown has to be the one to influence the discourse.
I mean the home team’s not gonna lose four in a row, right?
I remember how Carlisle was bitching about the refs after every game the last two playoffs we faced them. Bickerstaff was doing the same last season. Thibs was always saying “call it even” whether tight or not. And so on. Protect your team! You are not gonna change the outcome of the game just played, but it will help going into the next one. This is why I think Brown should have called the officiating out already while in San Antonio, and the Knicks should have complained officially to the NBA, too.
Some players look scared , Deuce didn’t look like he wanted to take a shot
There has to be a way to get easier offense for Brunson. I did not like his game at all tonight. Also fewer unforced turnovers and maybe we win this game.
The aside way to get him offense is to play him off ball , but who is going to being the ball up..
https://www.nbcnews.com/video/shorts/fences-put-up-at-madison-square-garden-ahead-of-game-3-264743493517 This nonsense killed the vibes around the building . Dumb owner doing dumb things .
Dylan Harper’s 5-18 is kinda offset by Shamet’s 1-8 and Bridges 1-5
The story of the game is Castle killed us and the refs made some absolutely atrocious calls
On to game 4 which I think we’ll win by 10+
No coach has ever whined about the refs when his team was up 2-0, rough.
Remember way back in the day when we played KAT up top with the ball and won games by 30 or more?
I’m glad we don’t do that anymore.
Speaking of statements Sam Presti today https://x.com/BleacherReport/status/2064033419982680111
KAT fucking sucked tonight
https://m.youtube.com/shorts/OZocp0aktqA?ra=m Anybody see Donte . Nice of him
For once I find myself agreeing with Pags. This has a Harlem Globetrotters kind of feel to it. Every play I’m just saying “don’t foul, don’t foul, don’t foul” and every damn play it’s a foul.
Two EGREGIOUS calls alone could have easily changed this game: Wemby obviously flagrantly fouls Brunson, no call. Castle with another obvious flagrant on Brunson, no flagrant called. Brunson does not even come close to fouling Champagnie, and that’s a flagrant.
Just call those obvious as hell plays correctly, and this is probably a tied game. That’s to say nothing of all the other bullshit.
They’re doing it right in everybody’s faces on obvious plays.
I don’t think Point KAT at the top of key works if he’s guarded by Wemby or with the way the Spurs are allowed to Greco-Roman wrestle to prevent our off-ball movement.
https://m.youtube.com/shorts/ZBcRBDCjo0Y?ra=m This is who Dolan invited to the game .
Officiating in San Antonio was exceptionally bad, borderline conspiratorial. It was much worse than tonight. We know Wemby is the NBA’s love affair, and Brown and the Knicks should have known officiating will not change until we make it an issue. I repeat, we did not lose only because of the officials tonight. This might well have been the case in San Antonio.
Well with the coach saying it , it can’t be ignored now. Brown put the numbers out – 24 to 8 free throws in the second half.
