So here are the possibilities (please correct me if I’m wrong!)
It’s now between ATL, TOR, ORL, and PHI.

If ATL wins, they clinch 5th seed.
If ATL loses and TOR wins, then TOR is 5th and ATL is 6th.
If TOR and ATL both win, then ATL is 5th and TOR is 6th.
    If TOR loses, then:
    -ATL is 5th
-If ORL wins, ORL is 6th and TOR and PHI are in the play-in
-If PHI wins and ORL loses, PHI is 6th and TOR and ORL are in the play-in
-If both PHI and ORL lose, they are in the play-in and TOR is 6th

    and

One correction: if ATL loses and TOR wins, TOR isn’t necessarily the 5th seed and ATL the 6th.

TOR wins the two-way tiebreak with ATL, but an ORL win could create a 3-way tie, in which ATL would come out on top as the 5th seed, because of its status as a division winner. TOR would then prevail over ORL for the 6th.

And an ORL win over the Celtics in Boston on Sunday is very plausible because the Magic have multiple reasons to care and the Celts have none.

This is all making my head hurt. That said, while I wouldn’t love playing Atlanta in the first round, I’d feel pretty confident going into a series against any of the teams still in contention for the 6 seed. This team still has a tendency to play with its food, but we’ve seen lately what they can do when they’re focused — and especially when KAT is focused, both on his own and doing actions with Brunson — and I’d like to think that being in the playoffs will (mostly) make the focus problems go away.

Any news on OG? Hoping they were just being super cautious with him and it’s just a tweak.

    Thanks timo, that makes sense.

Personally my order of preference is Toronto, Atlanta. Orlando. I think we can beat any of them, but Orlando is loaded with dirty players.

As to the scenarios, Toronto probably wants to avoid the play-in so a loss to the tanking Nets at home seems improbable. However, one would think that IND wants to lock up the 2 spot in the lottery odds with a loss, in which case the Nets would not benefit by losing and might decide to play spoiler if it is close in the 4th and IND is down big.

You’re welcome Z-Man. And yes, as for ORL, I’m glad they lose all the pertinent tiebreakers to avoid the play-in and the Knicks are almost certainly avoiding them.

Can’t fathom TOR losing at home to BKN, although I suppose stranger things have happened.

Looked at from 10 games ago, about the best possible outcome, assuming OG heals over the next week. Starters are gelling, rotation players are staking their claim with a bit more versatility than expected, and the bench seems all in. Couldn’t care less who we meet in the playoffs or when. This is about us, not matchups.

KAT & Brown’s offense have finally been meshing over the last few games. KAT is making some legit point-center passes to set up cutters along with some lead passes to Brunson to get him going downhill. It’s some really pretty basketball.

Can you imagine what an IQ/RJ revenge series would do to this team/front office/town? It would suddenly be absolute chaos.

    fify

RJ and IQ would have to play the best games of their careers and I still think we would win that series.

Jahmai Mashack had a quadrumple-double last night for the Grizz, with turnovers: 13/15/14/10 in 48 minutes played.

I can imagine what would happen to this blog, specifically a certain postEr would become insufferable

I am thrilled that it seems almost certainly to be Toronto. The Knicks truly should sweep that series. Not even a gentleman’s sweep, but a true sweep.

Meanwhile, Orlando will beat the shit out of Detroit or Boston on their way to a 5-game elimination.

The Desmond Bane trade really reminds me of the Mark Jackson trade, except that the 2024-25 Magic weren’t as ready for the next step as the 1993-94 Pacers.

Bane is a badass, but if you add him to a team that’s not ready, that dude will cause some locker room CHAOS. Same with Jackson had he joined the Pacers too early.

timo, are you a new user? welcome!
you’ve come just in time to follow our run to the Finals! 🤞

    LOL!

And now that we are winning and looking ready for the playoffs he’s nowhere to be found…

The Knicks are sitting all of the starters — except Mikal Bridges so that he can keep his consecutive games-played streak alive — and Mitch for tomorrow’s regular-season finale against the Hornets.

    Mikal O/U 10 seconds played?

I’m taking the under. We’ll foul someone with 2 or 3 seconds, and that’s it.

For golf fans out there, the Masters just went from a runaway to a battle royale…mostly due to Rory McIlroy dubbing it all over the place.

I woke up this morning feeling quite quadrumpled, but nothing a good shake of my arms and legs couldn’t fix.

Know what my favorite statistic of the entire year is, Knick-wise?

    .415

    That’s Josh Hart’s 3PT%.

He’s FOURTEENTH in the NBA. That’s better than Kevin Durant. Or Duncan Robinson.

And even so, when Josh takes a three and misses, even half the people on this site crap their pants.

The Mets are abysmal and Carlos Mendoza should be fired. The team looks completely unprepared to play baseball. They are getting their asses handed to them every day by the shittiest teams in the league.

Don’t worry, JK, the Mets just picked up Craig Kimbel. He’s only 37, so the winning is about to start…

I actually empathize. My two baseball teams are the Mets and the Mariners, and they both suck almost identically at the moment.

I think Mikal has to play 20 minutes for it to count as a played game. Luke Weaver is awful

You need to play 20 minutes for awards.

Unless it has been changed, you just need to touch the court for a game played stat.

Last season, our last game of the regular season was in Brooklyn, we sat the exact same players (JB, Hart, OG, KAT, Mitch) and Mikal played a grand total of 6 seconds.

Thank you for the welcome, cybersoze. I’m not actually a new sign-up to the board, but it’s fair to say my posts have been infrequent.

This evening’s publishing of the injury/resting reports has led to significant swings in the betting odds for games to pertinent to deciding the Knicks’ first round opponent.

ATL went from a 6.5 pt favorite over MIA to a 1.5 pt underdog. That’s not favorable for those wanting the #3-#6 NYK matchup with TOR.

However, as counterbalance, ORL has improved from a 4.5 pt fave over BOS to a 10.5 pt fave. As mentioned above, an ORL win maintains ATL’s #5 seed, even if ATL loses, because of the 3-way tiebreak. And in the process would keep TOR at #6 and playing NYK (presuming TOR’s win over BKN, where TOR is a 20.5 pt favorite).

Yankees and Mets better hope Knicks play into June to keep the focus away from them for as long as possible.
