Nuggies beat Celts by 19 last night with Jamal Murray barely playing. Is there a blueprint we can take from that?

What is with the Wizards’ weird scheduling lately? They played versus the Pacers both times at home on consecutive nights (the Pacers out-tanked them in both games). And now they played @Atlanta two days ago, and are playing @Atlanta again tonight. That’s weird, right?

Anyone care to comment on Mike Brown saying “you’ll have to ask him” when asked why KAT got so few shots?

“Anyone care to comment on Mike Brown saying “you’ll have to ask him” when asked why KAT got so few shots?”

Didn’t know he said that. Sounds like it could be its own thread between now and tomorrow night’s game. Only half kidding.

once the sports’ media fixates on a thing (maybe even correctly so), the only thing that’ll slow down that chatter is winning…

just like thibs had to constantly answer for the minutes stuff, MB is going to keep being questioned about KAT’s offensive role…

just like last season with the minutes, it’s a big obvious team vulnerability…

That’s a really damning line for everyone involved. It’s Brown throwing KAT under the bus. It’s Brown not taking any responsibility as a coach for getting his players to do the right thing. And it’s KAT clearly not doing the right thing, whatever that might be.

    For five words, that’s nasty.

“You’ll have to ask _______” is *never* good in this sports context. Wish he’d thought that response through a little better. Or at all.

I know we don’t have top picks in this draft, but the fact that we have at least three is low-key great news.

I’m starting to think the 2026 draft won’t just be great at the top but also pretty damn deep, depending on who returns to college for the NIL $.

For instance, we have a guy like Amari Allen, a freshman wing with a 10 bpm, supposedly available at our #26 pick. And as of now, we have Mr. 13 bpm PF Morez Johnson near our #33 pick. Both of those guys will probably move up, but that will just push other great players down, like Joshua Jefferson, Flory Bidunga, or even high upside guys like Jayden Quaintance. Not to mention the sneaky good guys like Karaban, Veesar, and my personal favorite Milan Momcilovic, who is killing it this year. There are also a few Euros who will be near our picks like Dash Daniels or Karim Lopez who might be interesting options.

I just really hope Leon keeps these picks and uses them because by this time next year, and I hate to say this, I think guys like Kolek and McCullar and going to be in the rear view mirror because of this draft.

There’s an obvious disconnect between Towns, Brown/Brunson and the system Brown has implemented. I don’t want to put 100% of the blame on Brown/Brunson because Towns was known to disappear at times in Minny and also did last year. But IMO, when you have a 7’0″ C, you typically don’t want the player to put the ball on the floor and create shots. I would argue some of his drives are actually suspect. So maybe given how this is going he should probably take fewer shots! But obviously the solution is not taking even fewer shots or forcing more bad ones. It’s finding a way to use him effectively given his skillset. That’s mostly on the coach and PG. If Towns is doing something wrong within the system, then fix it. I don’t like where this is going and to be honest I don’t think Towns is the problem.

I just really hope Leon keeps these picks and uses them because by this time next year, and I hate to say this, I think guys like Kolek and McCullar and going to be in the rear view mirror because of this draft.

Me too. Especially when you think about losing Mitch, maybe Deuce, etc.

“Me too. Especially when you think about losing Mitch, maybe Deuce, etc.”

Perish the thought! I love those guys!

Agree the Knicks could get two solid players with their pick and the Wiz early second if they scout properly and make the picks.

I still want Kolek around because I value his passing. Will Pacome get a chance to stay on long term ? He’s always been a long term project..

“Me too. Especially when you think about losing Mitch, maybe Deuce, etc.”

That would be a disaster unless we found a way to turn them into someone better.

I feel a “homegrown versus mercenaries” discussion coming on. Mo, Mitch, Kolek, Huk, Dadi, McC, and Deuce are our “homegrowns,” right?

If Leon was too dumb to read the writing on the wall re: iHart going to OKC, he should be fired now rather than waiting. It was widely rumored to be a sure thing that OKC would make such an offer, i.e. whatever it would take to get him. Presti LOVED iHart, and he had all the leverage. Please stop with the total bullshit that it was “unexpected” or even all that much of an “overpay” when the team option is considered.

If Leon actually was so confident that if iHart was kept, Mikal was worth giving up all of your draft capital for, he is just as guilty of gross incompetence, and should have been told “this better fucking work or you’re outta here!”. There is zero chance that Mikal was going to improve the team more than whatever else could have been done with all of those picks. Do you understand that the pick haul was the largest one ever paid out for a single player, ever? That it dwarfs what was paid out for guys like KAT, Siakam, AD, Luka, Harden, and other HOF-types? There is no excuse or explanation for it, other than ones based on idiotic assumptions.

I disagree with vitually ever word of this.

Some of the smartest people in basketball were pegging I-Hart’s value at around what we could offer or a little better. The idea that OKC might be interested came a little later. Even then no one said he was going to get a monster overpay offer from OKC. The speculation was that even if OKC offered him a little more than we could pay, he would stay in NY. He even said he would have in an interview later.

I’m not going to disagree on the price we paid. Everyone on earth knows and agrees it was an significant overpay. The point is that Mitch/IHart, Randle, OG, Mikal, Brunson with JHart, Deuce and DDV most likely would have gotten to the finals last year and maybe even won. That’s the team he thought he was going to have and that’s why “final pieces” are often significant overpays.

It didn’t work because I-Hart got offered so much more than he could get in NY or anywhere else on earth he had to go. OKC viewed him as the final piece and dramatically overpaid for him.

My take on Mitch is this

    – where is the big deal going to come from?

    – doesn’t play back to backs

    – plays 20 minutes a night

    – not many teams have cap space either that I think would throw a deal at him.

I Hart, Mark Williams, Kessler seem like better options if a team with cap space wants to throw out a big deal at a Center.

It didn’t work because I-Hart got offered so much more than he could get in NY or anywhere else on earth he had to go. OKC viewed him as the final piece and dramatically overpaid for him.

Just to make this part clearer, if it was just a matter of beating NY’s offer they wouldn’t have offered I-Hart as much as they did. They offered so much because he wasn’t going to leave unless they blew NY’s offer out of water. And now that they have their title and Chet is developing further as a big man his name came up at the trade deadline (money issues), but apparently there were no takers at that salary.

To be homegrown, it has to actually be smokable. So just Mitch and McBride. Though you have am interesting hybrid strain in there too that could become garlic juice.

Me too. Especially when you think about losing Mitch, maybe Deuce, etc.

it’s crazy that only 13 guys have played more seasons on the new york knicks than mitchell robinson.

In addititon to drafted players like Deuce and Mitch, homegrown to me means players who have taken their careers to another level while wearing a NY uniform. Therefore OG, Hart and JB count & so does Julius Randle. Certainly hope that Alvarado and Shamet join this group.

Mikal and KAT (this season) have shrunk somewhat, – so they’re definitively not home grown.

‘it’s crazy that only 13 guys have played more seasons on the new york knicks than mitchell robinson.”

Start with the 1950s when a 5year career was odd, the 1960s when we were bad until good, the 1970s when we were great but old, to the Ewing years when we yo-yoed between new blood and old, coupled with Dolan years not that surprising. 10 of the 13- cheated at bbref
    only to confirm-first 10 correct, 11th wrong…stopped.

    https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/most-seasons-played-for-the-knicks

Mitch has played in 379 games for the Knicks through his 8 seasons (yes, obviously this one is still in progress). But of the five gentlement just ahead of him who played for 9 seasons with the Knicks, they played between 598-663 games.

Did not know that there was an NBA rule named after our own Trent Tucker (although I remember the play that caused it to come into being):

The Trent Tucker Rule is an NBA regulation stating that a player cannot legally catch and shoot the ball if 0.2 seconds or less remain on the game or shot clock, as it is deemed impossible to do so. Implemented in the 1990–91 season, it mandates a minimum of 0.3 seconds for a regular shot; with less time, only a tip-in or high lob is allowed.

Now I remembered that I used to know about that rule being named after him. It’s obviously been a while, and I’m all old now.

Shams says Jason Tatum scrimaging 5v5 now with the team and going all in a full practice.

I give him ~3 weeks before he’s back and ramping up for a legit playoff run. This materially changes odds of going to the finals.

There is a chance it could actually help us. Get ready for the “Were the Celts actually better without Jayson Tatum questions?” It could be pretty disruptive to team cohesion and chemistry.

Also, if he is this close, then he had to know that just a short couple of weeks ago when he said more than once that he wasn’t sure that he was planning on returning this season. So that could have either been a smokescreen, or him actually *not* wanting to come back this season out of an abundance of caution. We shall see.

100% smoke screen plus this new politically correct talk.

Back in the day, the warrior in him would have been free to say ” I’m 100% coming back and going to battle with my teamates. Count me in”.

Nowdays, you can’t say that… but we all know that he didn’t work this hard just to get healthy so that he can fish & vacation this spring and summer.

No one sane thought iHart was signing a contract with an $18MM AAV.

Not getting his Bird rights after dumping the J-Dub/Duren lottery pick to make room for him was possibly Leon’s lamest move in what’s become a teeming and crowded field of contenders.

Don’t you think we are overreacting a little? Team has looked awesome on a not so small number of games, and has also looked awful and gave us dispiriting losses on some of the others, but usually teams tend to the best version when in the playoffs. Let’s hope we can be more times awesome than not in May/June.
I think the team with Mike Brown is of the type low floor high ceiling, while with Thibs we were high floor low ceiling. Of course with Thibs we were good and almost never bad, and that is a little more re-assuring than watching a rival kick our butts (awesome games notwithstanding). All this to say that we are better than we are feeling right now.

    1

I don’t know if bird rights would have made a difference with IHart. OKC’s offer was so much bigger than expected I’m not sure if Leon would have matched. That’s not to say he shouldn’t have but that was a huge amount of money for a player that probably wasn’t even our best center. In hindsight it would have totally been worth matching but in that moment I’m not sure if many of would have wanted him to match.

So we lost I-Hart, DDV, and Randle, and substituted them with Mikala and Karla Anthonia? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I think Leon would have matched, especially after giving up 5 firsts for Mikal. The salary would have been huge but he would have had Randle and DDV on much more reasonable salaries than KAT AND an extra first round pick.

So we lost I-Hart, DDV, and Randle, and substituted them with Mikala and Karla Anthonia?

Stop with the lame sexism please

Or slurs or whatever you want to call them

    5

Swift, Randle and DDV were making 41.7M and KAT 49.2M. That’s only 7.5M of “savings”, i don’t think it would allow us to overpay iHart the way OKC did. And they only did it because they still had most of their important players on rookie deals. Not at all the same cap situation as the Knicks.

Jokes aside, and Rama’s hypersensitivity notwithstanding: say what you want about Randle’s shooting, his psychology and so on, but he was a force down low. He would back down to absolutely nobody. I-Hart and DDV were the same. Part of the gutsy team we admired in 2024. Many, yours truly included, are not happy with the [lack of] physicality and gutsyness of this current team.

More good news! As per Stefan Bondy, Deuce is expected to be available only for the playoffs, if at all.

I don’t think that’s really a change about Deuce than was previously reported. We don’t seem to be counting on him again this season, and anything we get should be considered a huge bonus.

What injury does Deuce have that is taking so long to heal? I had thought it wasn’t that bad.

What injury does Deuce have that is taking so long to heal? I had thought it wasn’t that bad.

Core injuries are very bad. They are tricky to recover from, and most guys miss a lot of time from it.

I just saw a post online debating who should win the Rookie of the Year, and they seriously use the fact that Knueppel had more total points as a selling point for him over Flagg.

    Holy fucking shit.

Mike Brown is going to be judged by whether or not this team gets to the finals and how they perform in that series. Nothing else matters. My only problem with him before that data exists would be that all the work he’s doing fiddling with lineups and the strange Kateractions we get glimpses of were being done without an eye to winning the championship this year. I don’t assume Mike Brown is stupid so I cannot assume he isn’t working with the same expectations as the rest of us. We should have enough to get there this year.

tyrese maxey is now the leader in 3 point shots made in sixer history…he’s such an easy player to root for…

kel’el ware is such a potentially dominant player developing this season…

Was looking through the game schedule for last season. We got beat pretty badly by the best teams last year – Boston, Cleveland and OKC. We also lost to Detroit twice and lost three games in a row to close out the season before winning our last game against the nets, so we weren’t exactly riding high into the playoffs.

So that did make me feel better but then I did the math and yes we’ve gone 12 and 4 the last 16 but we’ve also gone 14 and 13 the last 27 so who the F knows.

    Holy fucking shit.

Knueppel should win in a landside, quite frankly.

The Hornets are interesting for the first time in forever and Kon is a huge reason why.

I think Leon would have matched,

My understanding is that Leon coudn’t match Presti offer even if Dolan was ready to pick up the lux tax bill…can’t blame the Leon for not doing the imposible…or can we?
