2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Cavaliers – Something to Prove

Do the Knicks need to win this game? Of course not, but boy, it sure would be fucking sweet to win this game without Jalen Brunson. I love that Brunson looks like he’ll be back in time to still quality for the All-NBA team, which is awesome.

But yeah, a nice win tonight, especially since it will be without Mitch, so if they beat them without Mitch, it is that much sweeter to say, “Yeah, and that’s without Mitch, who dunked all over you fools in the playoffs two years ago.”

So, well, you know, please kick their ass tonight, Knicks!

The Dylan song, appropriately enough, is “On the Road Again,” from Bringing It All Back Home (the album where Dylan first went electric).

Delon-Delon!

KAT playing tonight. Of course. We all knew that.

And I’m stuck dating Doris.

Clarence and Raven, I for one definitely did not have a crush on Omar Sharif growing up, of the biggest variety or otherwise. I guess I’m the only one, though—I was entranced with Laurie Partridge and Marcia Brady.

Hart being super aggressive offensively so far. And great D.

We have a 36.4 percent chance of winning right now, per ESPN.

We’re KILLING.

I know, I know, but I’m enjoying the fuck out of it while it lasts.

Real estate on Delon Island is still cheap, but I doubt that lasts long. Lock in your chance to be my neighbor now!

He has the Wright stuff.

Welcome in, Presh and Land. Presh with the immediate ‘bound.

Wally can never replace Clyde for many reasons, not the least of which is he just compared Delon to Elfrid Payton. As a compliment.

Well then, he was correct, wasn’t he? Delon *is* better than Elf.

43.9 percent chance of winning now, per ESPN.

I don’t know what’s the record for most 3s in a playoff series but whoever the Knicks play in the 2nd rd between Boston or Cleveland will most likely shatter that record.

I’m not even sure what I’m being accused of arguing, at this point. No one posted anything that I thought was incorrect. LOL

50.6 percent chance of winning now, per ESPN.

Another out-of-bounds TO for KAT. Geez.

He’s done three good things: scored one basket and pulled down two rebounds.

Dang. We’re back down to only a 37.4 percent chance of winning, per ESPN.

Plus a block.

An entertaining first quarter. Here’s to continued shooting at 70%.

Here i am. This is going great, so if we start losing steam i’ll blame myself and turn the game off. 😛 😀

Shamet’s turning into Steph. It’s bizarre.

But I’ll take it.

I was going to say nice things about Precious but then he tried to iso fadeaway on Evan Mobley

Yeah, Noble, I was going to say Precious does something not good.

Still, more good than bad. So far.

Was OG eurostep legal? It looks like he jumps in the first “step”.

When we frustratingly blow this I’ll do my best to remember I thought we’d lose by 20 before the game

So the secret to beating the Cavs is shooting 60+ FG% and hold them to 45- FG% , let’s see how much timewe can keep this up.

Noble, I’ll argue that it almost doesn’t matter. We’re missing our all-NBA point guard and our backup point guard, and our defensive wiz center isn’t playing against one of the biggest front courts out there. We’ve already sent a message.

Sometime KATs brain farts give me a flashback to Julius Randle.

Yeah, it does. The stupid fouls and the low effort on defense.

KAT does not think the game at a high level. He is incredibly impulsive. He is the anti-Clyde.

OG still overpaid???

One of the great hot streaks of all time if so.

Amazing how much offensive slack was in his game. Still a little hard to believe he is doing this, I must admit, but I hope it’s for real.

I mean that half wasn’t exactly real, but some of what he’s showing should be real enough, right?

55.8 percent chance of winning at halftime, per ESPN.

Being 1-of-2 from 3 in the first half of a game doesn’t remind me at all of Steph Curry. Last game was another thing, though.

I don’t know, I watched him produce some of the worst finishing I have ever seen on contested layups for 75-% of the season and suddenly Brunson goes out and he can’t miss anything.

It’s strange but it’s a pretty large sample at this point, so, who knows….

The only answer is that Delon is the skeleton key that’s opening up OG and Shamet’s games prove me wrong

Doogie, PLEASE don’t keep being a dick. I meant that Shamet made a three while running down the sideline and falling out of bounds. After trying (and failing) to make a three right beforehand.

You’re assuming again that everyone posting is watching the game. I haven’t been able to yet, so I had no idea what you were writing about, and you didn’t provide that context at the time. I’m not saying that you *need* to provide context whenever you post something during a game thread, but you have to then understand that someone not watching the game won’t (and shouldn’t be expected to) get it.

If you’re not watching the game don’t fucking post in the game thread if you can’t handle it.

DDB – please don’t shit on the game threads

First half felt like fools gold and yeah, it was

Any chance Doogie can take inspiration from Hubert and give up posting here for Lent but instead of just 40 days make it 400 days.

Fuck both of you, and I don’t mean Owen. I’m allowed to post on game threads without watching the game, and you two telling me not to do so when so many others do the exact same thing just makes me want to do it more (and your comment didn’t help, BBA). I’m tired of being told that I can’t do three or four things (e.g., post political stuff, post stats from non-Knicks players, post on game threads when I am not actually watching a game, and carry comments over from one day’s thread to the next) that many others do. So again, fuck both of you.

’bout damn time he made one that didn’t go out of bounds.

As you should. He’s our best player, and the team captain for a reason.

I don’t know, I watched him produce some of the worst finishing I have ever seen on contested layups for 75-% of the season and suddenly Brunson goes out and he can’t miss anything.

OG would get inside and try to avoid contact with some twist or turn of his body that would throw his shot off. Now he’s going to hoop taking the contact a little more under control and drawing fouls. The plus is that OG is built like a brick shit house and sometimes powers through. I don’t think that change has anything to do with Brunson not being there except he’s getting more opportunities to score and knows he has to be aggressive. I think he learned something from being in the position of having to be more aggressive.

‘As you should. He’s our best player, and the team captain for a reason.’

Seriously Doogie, take a break.

So many f-bombs… for the love of all that’s good, there are children on this blog!

This game would be a LOT different if he had Mitch in the middle. I’m not afraid of this team. We can beat them at 100%.

Not sure what’s wrong with writing that it makes perfect sense to miss Brunson being out there. So do I.

Also: it might be good if Mikal would re-appear.

We still have a 6.1 percent chance of winning, per ESPN. Make that 4.6 percent. Block by Precious on Mobley.

It’s not embarrassing for them. That’s what they do best.

Mikal has been the Knicks’ version of Droolie on the game thread tonight on both ends

I’m not afraid of the Cavs, I’m afraid of our coach. He’s just so bad at making adjustment when the other team makes adjustments. We can for sure hang with the best teams for a half, maybe even three quarters. But once a team catches fire, we concede almost immediately. Like no fight back at all.

I would’ve been interested in seeing Moses Brown tonight, but PJ was solid.

Of course there is no one using the moniker of “Droolie” on this forum, fucker, although you already knew that. Learn to read and spell. LOL 🙂

didn’t start tuning in til midway 3rd quarter…kind of which I only watched the first half…

another back to back this weekend: hawks, suns…not sure what to expect on sunday, the suns are pretty bad, but, end of year, who knows…

Speaking of the Suns- Shams says Knicks have interest in Durant..

You sure owned him

Spot on.

Anyone who thought there was any chance of winning this game tonight without four of their nine rotation players including their hands down best player, on the road, without Mitch ” Klevelend Kryptonite” Robinson” on the second night of a B to B is just nuts.

On the glass half full side, they went toe to toe shorthanded for 32 minutes and OG is playing the best ball of his career.

Playoffs could be surprisingly fun….

Speaking of the Suns- Shams says Knicks have interest in Durant..

No kidding! That’s like saying BrunsonPeroneusLongus would like to tap Charlize Theron.

The only salary they have that matches Durant is KAT, but KD is expiring at the end of next season and who wants to be held over the barrel in negotiating for his 39-43 year old seasons. The man is still an offensive force for efficiency on high usage but he is declining (or losing interest playing for a losing team) on the defensive end.

well bob, you have now prompted me to think if I had to choose just one actress to use in your example – going with a grown ahsoka tano, minus the odd head piece thing…

imperator furiosa – not too bad a choice though…

famke janssen’s phoenix is a pretty solid way to go too…

The Heat crushed the Celtics in Boston tonight and have now won 6 in a row

Quite the turnaround, they looked totally cooked against us a few weeks ago

How can Mikal play 35+ minutes and only attempt 6 shots?

This team is weird

That Pelle Larsson and Alec Burks are regular lion killers.

Just getting in from a raucous night celebrating a good friend and, I shit you not, during this celebration the voice of the diva plava Laguna was singing and she was marvelous and I was like I need to know so I pretended to be taking a video of her like some other folks were doing and then I opened up the box score and it was half time and I was like fuck yeah. I didn’t and don’t care what happened in the second half. We’re a good left hook and a strong chin.
