It’s so misleading to call Tuckers new contract a two year deal. There are two more weeks to the season and then maybe a month of playoffs (if we do reasonably well. Then the next year is an option

Stefan Bondy: TJ Warren left the Westchester Knicks not long after the Knicks signed PJ Tucker, league sources told The Post. Warren averaged nearly 23 points for Westchester and was hoping for a call-up to the senior club

Warren must feel like he got played

That sucks. Now someone else will sign him to score 8 points and 5 rebounds on 50.5 percent shooting with 3 3s per game for their playoff roster (18 minutes per game).

Or……. or…….there is something else going on with signing him that we don’t know about. I remember this summer that I kept waiting for them to re-sign Precious back, and kept waiting, and kept waiting…….and it really looked like they weren’t going to bother, even though they didn’t have a center. But then they did.

I also note that no one else *has* signed him, if he is indeed available to the open market. So that’s something, too.

Yeah the headlines are little hyperbolic with PJ, lol.

Guarantee he’s trade fodder this summer. Also, he’s not the worst person to have at the end of the bench.

But curious if TJ gets the call up or not. Are we able to get him up here? I heard something about maybe they do it for like the last game of the regular season?

PJ and TJ would be fun vets for the bench.

Neither one of them would ever get off the bench for Thibs, unless we have catastrophic injuries. Even then, TJ would probably get on the floor before PJ would.

Or maybe I should say that TJ *should* get on the floor before PJ ever would. But it’s actually more likely that we’d see PJ first.

Swifty, we would have to cut someone to sign TJ now. And suddenly Delon doesn’t seem like someone who should be cut. So
Unless Shamet goes back to the bad place again, there’s no room for poor TJ.

Let’s definitely not cut Delon. But Alan, how about Watson or Beauchamp?

They’re on two-way contracts, Doogie. So they could in theory play for us in the regular season. I’m not sure if they’re playoff eligible. But it doesn’t matter. If Beauchamp or Watson are somehow needed in the playoffs, we’re already in a deep hole there’s no way out of.

ETA: Oh, did you mean to ask if we could cut one of them? Again, it’s not helpful, because TJ Warren is ineligible to sign a two-way contract to replace them. Too much service time.

Yep, I meant the latter. Thanks for the clarification. The CBA is complicated AF. I don’t know how you keep up with it or understand it. 🙂

So no TJ Warren. HE must be bummed. But thinking about the team, Shamet has stepped up the scoring and Delon seems to be useful too. So we probably don’t really need him. But PJ makes sense. He’s washed but he is a big body. Could be useful to dole out some fouls in the playoffs, lol.

Two-way players are not playoff eligible as far as I know. You can give them a regular minimum contract on the last day of the season and make them eligible, but now we’d have to cut someone to do that.

Getting four wins (the Knicks magic number against Indiana) is not a given.

    * Philadelphia and NY at the end of the season are two very likely wins, although you don’t want a must win in game 82.

    * Atlanta and Phoenix on a B2B – could go badly without Brunson.

    * Then you have Cleveland twice on B2Bs, and the Celtics.

This obviously is irrelevant if the Pacers lose a game or two, or if you think 3rd or 4th is no big deal.

We’re playing ourselves? I’m not sure whether to expect a win or a loss there. 🙂 More seriously, I’m not sure how you changed “Brooklyn” to “NY” since they’re not in New Jersey anymore, but I figure that must be who you meant since they’re the one team we’re playing that you did not mention.

Let’s remember that we *might* have our Brunson Burner back for our last few games, if possible. But while I agree that our magic number of 4 over the Pacers is not guaranteed, it doesn’t mean that we have to get four more wins. We have to get any *combination* of 4 wins and Pacer losses. I would think that we could get two more wins while they get two more losses.

or if you think 3rd or 4th is no big deal.

I wouldn’t throw a game or two just to get to 4th, but I don’t mind being 3rd or 4th. You’d still have to beat a juggernaut to get to the ECF.

Knicks are 7-5 without Brunson, they’ll find a way to win at least 4 of their remaining 8 games

We won’t have to beat a juggernaut if someone else beats them first. Very unlikely, but stranger things have happened. Go, Hawks (they did beat Boston twice)! Go, Magic (they did beat Cleveland once)!

Is Celticsblogger complaining today about Al Horford’s 37-minute stint?

It was PJ or TJ in all likelihood, given the relevant cap and roster constraints. I won’t dwell on it but I continue to think we are not well-positioned to use scarce roster spots and cap space on coaches. Maybe TJ is totally cooked, but we know PJ is.

Right; they shouldn’t be. He will be 39 years old in two months.

Then again, LeBron is 40 years old and averaging over 35 minutes per game, so it can obviously be done.

I’m not sure we know whether Tucker is cooked or not, he played meaningful playoff minutes the last time we saw him.

KAT has been added to the injury report as questionable for tonight’s game against Philly.

    General knee soreness

PJ Tucker’s team option league minimum salary for next year is $3.35 million as a 14-year NBA vet. I believe TJ’s minimum salary would have been for $3.05 million due to his 9 years of service.

I’m guessing that $300k was deemed important enough to Brock Aller’s machinations to warrant disappointing TJ.

I thought I read somewhere that they can still sign TJ on the last day of the season or something like that. Maybe he’s a 2-year deal candidate as well for salary purposes…Brock Aller might be a step ahead of us…

So, what…….we’d start Mitch tonight? This sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen.

Good, he looks like the knee is seriously bothering him. Doogie, hopefully Mitch is still on minutes restriction.

Huk’s out, so we’d have to start Precious. I’d be good with that, at least against Philly. Even Thibs couldn’t start 6-foot-5 PJ Tucker at center.

I bet Grimey doesn’t “rest” again tonight. I’m a little scared.

We currently have 15 guys on NBA contracts. We can sign TJ on the last day of the season, but only if we cut someone, with Shamet and Wright as the only real candidates.

Fun fact of the day – the Thunder are 29-1 against Eastern Conference teams

It’s not a baseball forum, so that’s not top of mind, especially with a game tonight and the regular season about to close for the playoffs.

Torpedo bat fine by me. No one else is being stopped from using it, either. Players like Judge won’t want to change what they’ve already been so successful with. It’s pretty simple, I think.

“We currently have 15 guys on NBA contracts. We can sign TJ on the last day of the season, but only if we cut someone, with Shamet and Wright as the only real candidates.”

Can either of those two be extended on a 1+1? If not, it might make sense to cut one of them and extend TJ…in any case, it just feels like Aller has something up his sleeve…

Wow, lighter than expected punishments for the DiVo brawl…all players got 1 game, except for Beef Stew who got 2 based on rep.

I expected 3-5 games for Donte, he sort of escalated things. I guess you could argue that no punches were thrown and no one intentionally went into the stands.

Fun fact of the day – the Thunder are 29-1 against Eastern Conference teams

Last summer, – I accurately predicted that OKC will hand a bag to iHart and flirt with 70 wins. They could have won 75+, if they their 2nd best player was healthy. That defense is next level with Chet and iHart. Would have been the best regular season team in history. Playoffs and championship rings are a TBD.

I expected 3-5 games for Donte, he sort of escalated things.

Z-man, I didn’t think he was the one who escalated it. From what I saw, Divo was the one who got in between the 2 players to try and break it up and then he was shoved and he reacted to that.

Wow, lighter than expected punishments for the DiVo brawl…

yeah…i was surprised..but then not surprised..it smells like the union tells the league what they are ok with otherwise they will file protest or something and then Dumars just does it…but seems like little deterrent for the future..where the league should be doing something to make sure players aren’t throwing blows in the stands…that should never happen

“From what I saw, Divo was the one who got in between the 2 players to try and break it up and then he was shoved and he reacted to that.”

Donte came over when Naz was putting his finger in Holland’s face. Donte got in between them but rather than hold back his teammate who was doing the finger pointing, he unnecessarily (imo) put his hands on Holland’s chest and moved him. Holland reacted by shoving Donte out of his direct line with Naz.

If you are going to get involved as a “peacemaker,” grab your own player, not the opponent. Donte should have moved Naz back. At least that’s the way I see it.

agree…zman…donte made like peacemaker…but you could tell he did it with attitude..

I was watching nba game time and Isiah was on and he said he was biased for the pistons but putting that aside…he thought Donte instigated the whole thing and crossed the line when he put his arms around Holland (after Holland shoved him away)….

“agree…zman…donte made like peacemaker…but you could tell he did it with attitude..”

It was apparently a chippy game from the start, and before the incident Donte had already had words with notoriously dirty Isaiah Stewart after being bumped, so he was probably already riled up.

I’m sort of glad that Silver didn’t go all David Stern on the players, the way Stern handled that Knicks incident vs. Miami still sticks in my craw. But I definitely expected more than one game.

Considering the horrible opponent plus KAT maybe being out thinking of paying more attention to the Yankees Dbacks game but considering the pitching matchup I might go with the Knicks game instead.

    The torpedo bat is hot.

So you prefer density to overall girth… unexpected!

    General knee soreness

Not shocking and good news if he sits out. He was moving gingerly last game like it was bothering him.

I think the TJ vs. PJ thing has little to do with how much basketball they have left. If we have so many injuries that we are playing the 14th and 15th players, it’s over anyway. This is about what each player brings to the locker room to help the team and how the other players feel about them. PJ is a vet with good energy and the players seem respect and like him.

Didn’t you already want them back even before the brawl?

Didn’t you already want them back even before the brawl?

I liked him and would love to have him on our bench, but I respect him more for throwing himself into the mix for a teammate and not backing down. He’s not a big guy, but he’s tough.

Donte tried to hit Josh Hart with a 10lb plate in a weightroom scuffle in college, he’s a fiesty guy.

‘Donte tried to hit Josh Hart with a 10lb plate in a weightroom scuffle in college’

I love Josh Hart, but I totally get that.

Looks like they may be starting Mitch, minutes restriction be damned.
