2024-25 Game Thread: Knicks @ Raptors – When They Come Down to Canada

I am going to assume the next line is “they easily defeat the Raptors.”

After a huge win last night, the Knicks head to Toronto to give the Raptors one of the best exports that we bring Canada, an ass-whooping.

Let’s go, Knicks!

It might be that the overall pattern is disturbing my vision, but I swear Clyde may be wearing the fattest tie in history…

Being a good negotiator is probably the single most important thing I want from my GM. And Leon sucks at it

Dude, this is the guy who negotiated Mega Max Melo AND the no-trade clause; convinced Masai to trade Bargnani to the Knicks instead of buying him out; and got Eddy Curry signed to an uninsurable six year contract. The man is the Henry Clay of the 21st Century.

Hate to pull a Doogie but “When They Come Down to Canada”?

Precious revenge game, please…

I predict a blowout win. We will shoot 50%+ from 3 and jump out to a double digit lead in late Q1 or Q2 behind a flurry of ill-advised shots that go in from Payne and/or Deuce.

Watching the raptors broadcast…the commentator said “we’re only 4.5 out of the play in”…..

Towns is blowing layups magnificently, but his energy has been great at getting them back.

Nice to see Towns asserting himself early with the shooting and rebounding. He’s been more like KITTEN on the glass of late.

A guy like Poeltl should be BBQ tuna for him.

Christ, l meant “When They Come Down to Canada” — that’s what I get for pulling a Doogie.

Towns is the floppiest 7-footer I’ve ever witnessed… I think he needs to work on his core strength or something.

Knicks have played bad defense plenty of times this season but this might be the most pathetic 1st quarter defensive effort I’ve ever seen.

That should be the quickest missed dunk to opponents’ layup in the history of the game.

Someone on the pregame said the other players loved Huk’s energy, despite the fouls. So far I get it…

I honestly have no idea why there is still so much talk about Knicks needing another big, what they clearly need is a decent sized wing off the bench.

The man is the Henry Clay of the 21st Century.

+1 Except Leon isn’t corrupt (as far as we know).

Huk has some playmaking flashes, he looks much better out there with KAT than he did with Precious

Shamet has an apparent ice bag wrapped on his shoulder, assume he won’t play tonight.

The Mavs are pursuing KD now? In the words of Brian Cronin: “Fuck the heck?!”

LOL

I am trying to be good and not making any RJ references. It’s hard though.

Huk is surprisingly quick out there when setting screens.

Looked good today

Jacoby Walter sounds like my accountant.

Grady Dick looks like my accountant.

Flashes of my rec league practices in the ‘90s, no defense, no passing, run and gun till exausted. 😁

Who the f#ck is this guy shead?

He must be the nobody that is going to have a season high against the Knicks! 😛

KAT not having any trouble holding on to rebounds tonight.

I feel like he got a hand transplant or something, looks like the old KAT tonight

Ariel Hukporti. The big, defensively capable wing we didn’t know we had.

I’m actually serious, sort of. He’s been playing GREAT D.

Hukporti has been pretty good guarding Barnes.

Edit: clearly I’m late to the party.

Ariel Hukporti. The big, defensively capable wing we didn’t know we had.

yeah where the fuck did that come from?

Hukporti playing himself into the rotation with his defensive effort, we love to see it.

Towns is playing angry, like he’s insulted Toronto is guarding him with Poeltl and Olynyk.

Well, this is going great, so i’m skipping the 2nd half. Take care of the game, good people of KB, and see you tomorrow. 🙂

Huk Unleashed is fun to watch, it shows that one of our never-used bench players can stand his ground, albeit against the cellar-dwellers of the League, maybe Thibs has seen the light.

A 20-15 line at the half is outrageous. Nice to see this from KAT after his last two games.

They must be pretty confident they have something lined up for Sims already, since siphoning off his minutes to the 58th overall pick would theoretically hurt his value.

Nevertheless, Huk Huk.

KAT with the Moses Malone stat line at the half!

Kinda mad at Thibs for burying Huk up to now, he is a lot more fun than Sims

Is St Johns basketball a big deal again in NYC? They’re about to pull off another huge win tonight vs Marquette.

Man, they showed that RJ Barrett concussion play. I got a headache just watching it. He power-dribbled his head off the floor.

I have one friend (who went to Michigan) who is a fanatical Red Storm fan, nobody else I know cares. I don’t see much merch on people. Maybe if they have a tourney run they can start rebuilding a fan base

According to Begley we smartly kicked the tires on Yabusele, who btw is in a 3-games hot streak, and he would be perfect for us, but alas I doubt the surging to the play-in Sixers are ready to let him go.

Bandana wearing, “I don’t shave I don’t shower” IQ looks like an extra on a Hill Street Blues episode.
Same for Olynik.

Precious owns Toronto

Did I just hear that Precious’s brother is named Gods Gift Achiuwa?

Lol, ESPN front page “Cavaliers ‘finding energy’, sparking crowd”
box score: 92-78, losing 4th quarter

Fatigue: Muscle fatigue can impact shooting accuracy and power

(says google AI)

So the opposition player can just hang on to KATs jersey and no foul?
good work refs

How could the Knicks beat a team comprised almost entirely of athletic dudes no one’s ever heard about? No surprise they’re playing better without the couple of names we do know about.

Mr Brunson, it doesn’t look like you are going to get foul calls, so stop hunting them and contorting your body like that. Please (i’m worried for injuries they way he is dropping to the floor)

I don’t know how Jamal Shead’s NBA career will go but I feel pretty confident he’ll always kill the Knicks

The MOST Precious shot

Edit: My feed is very late. I didn’t think he got it off initially, so whatever

As great as Brunson was last night in the 4th quarter he has been equally as bad tonight.

As great as Brunson was last night in the 4th quarter he has been equally as bad tonight.

Spoke too soon

Those are the kind of shots superstars used to make against us when we sucked and were making fake comebacks

what the fuck happened? I stopped watching because the game got boring we were crusing so easily

I want OG to get as much rest as possible but I’m kinda dreading playing Boston on Saturday without OG.

Houston is barely beating the Nets, I guess last night took a lot out of both teams

edit: houston has lost to the Nets

You left out his greatest deal of all: getting Dolan to hand him the reigns to MSG with no front office experience.

But I thought it was pretty obvious I meant in his current position. His considerable prowess as one of the greatest agents ever has not transferred to negotiating favorable trades with opposing GMs (or player contracts with his son). His focus is too narrow and he’s afraid to not get his guy.

Even in the KAT heist he actually lost the negotiation. He didn’t want to give up Donte. And then after he capitulated on that, Connelly turned the screw again and got our best remaining pick.

Hubert, I’m generally pretty benign and don’t get into the direct back and forth here. But that’s about as intellectually dishonest a post as I’ve seen from you. Dogging Leon on maybe one of the best trades in Knicks history. Cmon, man. You’re better than that… or not.

Dick can hit it from deep and Dick can penetrate. He just kinda wilts in the middle.

There’s 3 teams in the NBA with more wins than the Knicks, a franchise that has sucked for 20 years. If Leon lost all his negotiations I don’t give a fuck.

Sorry, cgreene, but there is nothing intellectually dishonest about dialectic statements.

Plus litigating past trades on a game thread is a punishable offense.

17 FGAs is a season high for Josh, last year he had 5 games of 17+. I’m guessing that’s a result of how beat up we were last year

Plus litigating past trades on a game thread is a punishable offense.

I’m not litigating anything, I’m politely responding to Donnie, who addressed me directly in this thread.

You guys are welcome to butt the fuck out. You know that, right?

Embiid hasn’t played in a month, had a triple-double tonight, and is already listed as Out for their next game. He’s played in 13 games this year. Really, what’s the point of any of it?

I feel very good for not getting punny with Gradey’s last name which was very hard

Shout out to Bridges also. He was great tonight

Big wins for the Nets and Chicago – Ewing theoried it

Back to back wins missing OG is pretty damn worthy of cheer. Huk could not have come along at a better time. Celtics can be out rebounded.

near as we can figure g-man, dallas, like us, didn’t want to pay young mister grimes much above 10 million a year…

statistically they are not that far off, but martin is under contract this year and the next 2 for 9.5 mil per…

not sure exactly what number grimes and his agent are looking for, but it doesn’t seem to be 9 to 10 million per season…

Sounds like KD may end up back on the Warriors, should be an interesting Wednesday…

I’ve been hoping Huk and Kolek would develop enough to earn a spot in the rotation this year, but I assumed Kolek was the more likely of two. I thought he’d replace Payne around the all-star break, but that seems like a long shot now.

Assuming Mitch is back soon, it might be tough to keep Huk in the lineup also.

At least with Precious looking pretty good most of the time and now Huk looking playable, it feels like there’s some depth.

Now it looks like wing help may be the bigger priority, especially that Shamet may still have shoulder issues and hasn’t looked all that good anyway.

I really don’t think Kolek is going to be a thing… ever. Hopefully he works it out by next year. Either way, Payne is playing well enough for a backup PG that it’s moot.

Assuming Mitch is back soon, it might be tough to keep Huk in the lineup also.

People are assuming that Huk took Sims’s place, but what if he didn’t? What if he took another Cs place? Yeah, probably not. Mitch could fetch a decent wing though.

I think that getting this look at Huk before the trade deadline might give them the confidence to pull the trigger on a Mitch trade.

Sources said that Grimes wanted a deal in the range of the full midlevel exception — a $12.8 million starting salary

okay, so roughly a 3 million or so dollar difference between what was reportedly at one point offered by the mavs and turned down by grimes…

got to give thibs some credit, when OG went down wasn’t expecting KAT to start playing at the four…

going with ariel these last 2 games has been an excellent choice…not sure what the other options were…this is working though…

I really don’t think Kolek is going to be a thing… ever.

I’m surprised to hear you say that. I think he has excellent PG instincts and good passing skills. He’ll never be the scorer Brunson is, but I think he’ll score in enough ways to be at least a mildly plus player on offense. The problem is going to be whether he’s quick enough to defend. As a backup I think he’ll be good enough, especially because his basketball IQ seems high enough to learn to maximize his more limited athletic ability.

I don’t get the Grimes deal at all. To me, the 76ers got a great deal. IMO, he’s the better player than Martin now, cheaper, younger and still improving. He may or may not be worth what he’s asking, but he’ll have the rest of the season to demonstrate that and then the market will set what he’s worth.

I can see Dallas moving on from Grimes because I think Max Christie who they got in the Doncic deal has more and more likely upside, but if they were going to move him, I would have moved him for something else they need and not another SG/SF like Martin that imo is inferior to him.
