Josh Hart would ‘love’ for Knicks, Rangers to take on Boston rivals next round
71 replies on “Knicks Morning News (2024.05.18)”
I’m guessing Josh suffered an oblique injury, and even if it is a mild one, it will severely hamper what he does so effectively. The team that has won the rebounding battle has won each game and Josh’s contribution to that is critical.
Yeah if Josh is out or hampered I just don’t see how we can beat them even at home. He’s been the second most important player for us in these playoffs.
I’ve got a bad feeling about Sunday.
We lost the 50/50 balls and the 30/70 balls that Josh usually corrals. It did not feel good.
The stars in this series are the guards, Brunson and Hali, but to me the key player has been Siakam, whom the Knicks cannot guard. Hart is just too small. If any of the injured front court players were able to play this whole series would have looked completely different.
Anyway if Hart can’t play, it’s the Pacers game to lose.
Sucks we lost and Hart got injured…but looking forward to game 7. If you are going to win a chip, you need to win game 7s. Agree with darules, could be Pacers game to lose but with MSG humming easy to see them not playing well, negating in large measure our missing warriors. Interesting to see if OG plays, particularly if Hart who is likely just as if not moreso “not fit” sees some court time.
And since I predicted Knicks in 7, I can hardly complain that we have a game 7!
I would think OG won’t play.
The best outcome would be no Harf and no OG but we still win and then they’re both available for game one Tuesday and well rested.
Also I know it’s lame to complain about the refs when you lose but it’s pretty fucking rich for Carlisle to go on about big market bias in the NBA when the pacers probably get the friendliest home court whistle of any team in the league.
These guys are 1-5 on the road this postseason and have been outscored by 63 points in those 6 games for a net rating of -10.5.
That includes a 22 point loss to a Bucks team without Dame & Giannis.
If Brunson, Donte, and Hartenstein all show up & the team plays good defense we should win this game going away even if Hart can’t play.
Someone mentioned it last night and I’ve been thinking it all series:
Turner is a perimeter shooter. Why not try Hartenstein on Siakim?
Maybe Hubs but we keep losing players and Hart has been our second best player in the playoffs and has been THE reason we’ve had the rebounding advantage most games which is our biggest strength as a team.
I may not watch Sunday. I’d rather be surprised they won and watch the replay later than watch them lose and the season end like this.
I thought same Hubert. You need to put some length on Siakim. Hart is just too small.
All I know is precious needs to practice as many threes today as possible bc if he starts in place of hart we’re gonna need him to at least try a three if they leave him wide open. I think a key part of this playoff run for us is that hart has actually provided some spacing for us.
Bob Myers said last night on the postgame that if the Knicks lose game 7 it will be because of health
Which is a big fuck you to the Pacers.
Turner is a perimeter shooter. Why not try Hartenstein on Siakim?
we have tried this a decent amount, about 25-30pct of our non precious possessions, and it’s gone fairly well. going to it as the primary does risk getting ihart in foul trouble. it also makes us really vulnerable on the defensive glass with our primary bc it takes ihart out of position, even he’s giving up the outside shot as he normally does. if josh is out as i fear he will be that’s slightly less of a concern offset by the addition of every other possible concern.
I had the same idea, Swifty. They don’t guard Precious and I could see him hitting some shots in game 7.
Never forget: these guys can’t play defense.
When Jalen Brunson loses his mind and decides to stubbornly attack full court pressure and take 12 seconds off the shot clock before we even start our offense he is doing them the biggest favor in the world and last night he did them a ton of favors.
The man is beyond reproach but he played terribly last night. We were looking great with Deuce and Donte bombing away in the 1Q but then Brunson took and missed ten straight shots and they were all awful, forced, and contested. It was as bad a game I’ve ever seen from him.
I doubt the Pacers can count on that tomorrow.
Siakim scoring 25 points on 21 shots is not bad, but we let them get too many offensive boards and got beat up at the rim again.
Deuce was outstanding btw. Halliburton can’t guard him. We should run more action for him and Donte against their weaker defenders.
So if Hart can’t go, do we play 7 deep with Burksy? Idk who else would get time… Sims has been shit. Maybe Diakite?
He did try a 3 (I want to post the link but the NBA site never lets me create a sort link and copy/pasting the URL never works either).
Half those points came in game 5, so I’m guessing they didn’t get blown out in most of the others

Nuggets-Wolves played Thursday and their game 7 is after Knicks-Pacers who played Friday
Adam Silver is so bad at his job
If the Knicks get out of this series Game 1 would be on Tuesday vs a team that’s been resting for almost a week and has played a total of 10 games. Sounds fine.
When we get out of this series, que sera, sera.
You guessed wrong.
They actually have one outlier that skews the net rating: a 17 point win in game 2 v Milwaukee.
The margins of defeat are as follows:
G1 at MIL: -15
G5 at MIL: -22
G1 at NY: -4
G2 at NY: -9
G5 at NY: -30
And in every single one of those games they were facing a team that ranged from shorthanded to extremely shorthanded.
So many media heads are blaming the Hart injury on overuse..

OG is going to be a very interesting talking point in the off – season
You can’t go crazy and overpay a guy who is never on the court. Leon Rose has his work cut out for him.
You can’t go crazy and overpay a guy who is never on the court. Leon Rose has his work cut out for him.
Resigning OG is probably the easiest off-season task for Leon–precisely because OG has been on the court and he sees what it means to the team. Resigning iHart, given the constraints, will be harder, and hardest is deciding whether to run it back with a healthy Randle and a recovered from my most recent injury Mitch or make a big trade to upgrade a starter position.
Short rest isn’t an issue for us any more. Since the OG injury no Knick has played more than 43 minutes and in fact only 3 times has someone even eclipsed 40.
This is nothing like last Sunday when the short rest killed us.
If Hart can’t go or is ineffective, I would go with Burks at the 4. He has the size to match up with Siakam and offensively he’s been hot from three. When Precious is out there, he needs to go ahead and let a couple of 3’s fly. I think we will do it at home with the garden crowd propelling them. Win or lose, it’s been an awesome season and I’m confident we will be contenders again next year.
Yeah cause hart getting elbowed had nothing to do with that injury. We just had two days off. The narrative is so exhausting sometimes.
Run it back. Get Randle and Mitch healthy and we can win a title. Make those draft picks to shore up the end of the bench. Maybe get a vet minimum back up PG for insurance.
Spooky when I am in complete agreement with Swiftie…
I don’t blame overuse. I blame the lack of flatulence. Somebody has to force feed beans and broccoli to Jacob Toppin for the next 24 hours.
I agree, I don’t think Thibs has anything to do with Hart’s injury. While there was possible overuse earlier in the playoffs Hart has gotten decent rest lately. He played 23 and then 39 minutes in two games in the week leading up to last night. I don’t think it was an overuse injury.
Nah, I think that’s what Hart did but it didn’t come out in time
Nah. Hart was another freak injury.
So that loss was the Hart Fart game?
No one is blaming Hart on Thibs except one random dude on twitter none of us have ever heard of.
He writes for the Athletic covering the Jazz and Nuggets and is also a Knicks fan.
I like Swifty’s take, unless another star falls into our lap. This team’s chemistry is awesome.
If the Knicks season unfortunately ends tomorrow the one positive is the Yankees are on such a roll right now I’ll have no problem switching my entire focus on them. Although I’ll definitely be watching and rooting for the NY Rangers to win it all too.
But Knicks gonna win tomorrow!
Everyone should be blaming Alan for not hoofing it out to Indiana, but instead people are blaming farts? I mean I know he’s the most popular poster, but let’s call it what it is.
And +1 to running this team back next year, but with some kind of mobile M.A.S.H. unit budgeted in.
KBA, I would’ve happily gone if you guys had ponied up in time. I wasn’t going out there on spec!
I dunno, Alan. I was down pretty early, and I thought ptmilo was ready to front for all, if nec. 😉
Regardless, please work some magic on Sunday. We need all hands.
Gil has the best raw pitching starting stuff I’ve seen from the Yankee system since Severino. CY YOUNG type ability.
Hubs, last night in the broadcast I believe Dorris brought up the Thibs too many minutes meme.
I can blame 2 things at once
I actually think the last couple games Thibs has been doing a better job with minutes. He got Hart good rest in game 4 and 5. I didn’t like both Brunson and DDV playing over 30 in game 4 but the minutes in 5 and 6 were good, Brunson was still maybe a bit high in game 5 but we needed the win so it’s hard to fault Thibs there.
If we survive this series and Hart and OG get healthy for Boston I think we can play an 8 man rotation now that Precious and Burks have proven themselves and it will help us stay fresh. Hopefully, Thibs has learned to use his bench before injuries force him to not just after.
With or without Hart, I think we win by fifteen tomorrow. Our other three starters aren’t going to let this slip away. We will probably have to double a lot more, though, because the defense has to be better. But with a home whistle, I predict we’ll go for/get a lot of steals, fluster them, and move on to the Celts.
100%
The OG injury was either a wake up call for him personally or Leon sat him down for a come-to-Jesus meeting.
Either way, after he ran OG into the ground he has taken a different approach.
OG is going to participate in shootaround tomorrow.
Hart is playing but he has an abdominal strain.
Jeff Stotts @InStreetClothes
Re: Josh Hart: The average time lost for nonspecific abdominal strains is 8.1 days (~3 games). Hart may try to play through the injury for New York’s Game 7 but this issue will likely linger should the Knicks advance.
Thibs played his starters fewer minutes recently because all of a sudden Burks arose from the dead and showed that he deserved to be on the floor. To a lesser degree, the same applies to Achiuwa. If you find an extra 30 minutes between the two, this means your starters can play an average of 6 minutes less. Sorry, no imaginary Thibs epiphanies or mafia style sit downs with Leo and so on 🤣🤣🤣
As of tomorrow’s game: that Hart is compromised is a big, big, big issue. Let’s hope the MSG atmosphere as well as Indiana’s inexperience will prove to be decisive. We shall see.
If OG can go for 20 minutes before he hurts himself again that might be enough
pregame catwalk uni should be duct tape
Jericho Sims
DaQuan Jeffries
Charlie Brown Jr.

Begley:
“Knicks and OG Anunoby will make call tomorrow on whether he plays in Game 7 but there is optimism about his return at the moment, per SNY sources. Sources say Anunoby has progressed in his rehab and he wants to be out there with his teammates in win-or-go-home game vs IND.“
Burks was as playable the day OG went down as he was the day Bojan did. Thibs either learned his lesson or someone taught it to him. But nothing happened in those seven days to change Alec Burks.
The Liberty home opener was a much needed palette cleanser. Happened to walk by Pau Gasol, who looks great in retirement!
I do worry a bit about a compromised OG since his mobility is such a big part of his game, but any OG is almost definitely better than no OG.
Hopefully having two draft picks takes care of our bizarre Charlie Brown et al. issue.
So the Mets are back in the tank? Edwin Diaz seems to have lost his shine as well. Choking to the Marlins…
You know, I don’t think we quite give enough credit to this team for what it’s been doing despite everything. Here’s Katz:
‘If Hart can’t go, then half of the rotation they began the playoffs with (Hart, Anunoby, Bogdanović and Robinson) could miss the organization’s biggest moment in decades.’
Ex Knick Berman with some words
How bad is Daniel Gafford on D? We talking David Lee bad?
Happy that I’ll be able to root for whoever comes out of the west in the finals at least.
Can someone explain to me what that foul was in the OKC game?
Just saw the replay. Looked like Shai rode his hand down the arm.
Can’t root for the Mavs. Kyrie is Kyrie, Luka is a whiner and Cuban is kind of a douche.
I can’t root for the Mavs either. And every time I watched Derrick Lively do something good in tonight’s game (and he played very well tonight), I was thinking he should have been our draft pick. We’ll be very lucky if we get someone as good with our picks this year.
Jeez maybe OKC will go after Hartenstein… they got killed on the boards tonight.
Or Cam Whitmore would be nice.
I was thinking the same thing. But they do have the twelth pick. They could pick Edey. Can you imagine Edey and Holmgren on the same team?
