2023-24 Game Thread Knicks vs. Pistons: Everyone Gets to Play Less Than 40 Minutes Opener, hopefully

The Knicks host the Detroit Pistons in a game that is obviously not an automatic win, as the Pistons have won 12 games this year, and the Knicks continue to play without Julius Randle, OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson, but, at the same time, I mean, come on, people.

This is the second game of four games in a row where the Knicks absolutely have to win if they are going to finish in the #3 seed this year, which I have always felt that they had a really good chance of doing so still, as luckily for them, as banged up as the Knicks have been, most of the teams in the East have also been banged up, and those teams don’t have Thibs keeping their teams together when they lose their stars, so the Cavaliers, for instance, are a mockery of a sham without Donovan Mitchell (the Sixers without Embiid is a different situation, no one could get that team playing well).

So while they will almost assuredly win this one, they actually have to, you know, do that, so hopefully they do that.

Let’s go, Knicks!

Between the Ohtani mess and this Jontay Porter scandal, things are just going GREAT with sports leagues partnering up with gambling sites.

But Alan, the leagues managed to make more money.

End stage capitalism will kill every nice thing.

Two things that are nice:

1. Knicks fan: “We just need to take care of business.”
(Was this something that was ever said even like four years ago?)

2. Knicks fan, pondering team missing its star center, superstar power forward, and star small forward: “We just need to take care of business.”
(How is this even possible?)

The current Pistons lineup would be in the mix for the G-League title, without Cade, Duren, Simone, Stewart and Grimes they’re not an NBA team, period.

It’d take a blatant referees scam to lose this, so let’s win the game, heal the wounded and go grab the third seed.

Let’s Go Knicks!

Hubert, are you saying that Ohtani’s interpreter is just as bad as Uncle Paulie?

The Evelyn Fortnite Revenge Game!

(Sorry Doogie, that got away from me…)

It’s funny how dumb the Jontay Porter gambit was even by the standards of something so obviously dumb. At least do this shit with a bookie who doesn’t have to report the results, not a LEAGUE PARTNER.

“Welp, we’ve got our first official betting-on-the-NBA scandal. Not exactly a big name, but still a bombshell.”

What is the NBA betting scandal about? Not that I’m disinterested in the Ohtani stuff—in fact, I find it fascinating—but I’m much more interested in discussing an NBA betting scandal. Is it the refs again? Jontay Porter getting too many assists? 🙂

Oh, I see it now. Did you guys know that he is Michael Porter Jr.’s younger brother?

This may be a contest for the prettiest Knicks layup of the game…

I bet on Jontay that game because his over line was insane value. Good to know that I got bamboozled.

To paraphrase Family Guy: “Here’s the tip, and….. the game is over””

I suppose this is what happens when you remove all the starters from a 12-win team.

I follow the NBA pretty closely and I ain’t never heard of half of these dudes on the Pistons

What?!? You’ve never heard of Tosan Evbuomwan? He went to the same school as our own revered Bill Bradley! 🙂

What is worse, Detroit’s offense or defense? I’m not sure.

Fournier coming off the bench for this Detroit team is more embarrassing than not seeing the court in New York.

20-0 run!

Donte having another one of those games that won’t count because he’s too hot.

just how much a year do you think isaiah is really worth?

he has definitely proven to be an effective starting caliber center…

he can’t shoot from further than around 5 feet or so but – he is looking much better on the rolling to the basket stuff…

his defense is really surprising to me…passing is very okay…

new york taxes plus a max offer of about 16 million from us – I don’t know, it’s going to be tough to keep him…

Fournier coming off the bench for this Detroit team is more embarrassing than not seeing the court in New York.

that made me smile, thanks 😊

We’re getting dangerously close to Evil Donte being the best player in that trade

Playing Deuce against these mailing it in teams is just bullying. Dude has one gear.

I can’t believe Deuce threw it off Evil Donte for a layup.

Fornier earning 17 million to get a tattoo sleeve on his leg and crying about it is pretty funny

This is the most relaxed I’ve been for a Knicks game since I can’t remember when.

This is the most relaxed I’ve been for a Knicks game since I can’t remember when.

Please don’t summon The Razor like this.

hmmmm, maybe deuce, bogey and picks (3 1st) get us mikal…

everytime we play the nets for a few days after I can’t help but think how well mikal would fit in on our club…

even if we lose isaiah, we would still be a solid 7 deep…

Donte having another one of those games that won’t count because he’s too hot.

You are what your record says you are….

They all count, not just December and 2 games in March….

I mean look, a Divo 50 piece would be awesome, but it wouldn’t be crazy to get our guys some rest

If Deuce playing 48 means Brunson gets the rest of the night off, I could be okay with that.

But really, this is so break the milk shake glass time…

The Knicks are treating this like a practice, they’re trying to run more stuff through iHart

Breen on the McBride airball: “All that time on the bench, kind of cooled him off.”

Not a fan of Sims’ hair braids. Part of the fun was watching his mop compress and decompress when he hopped up and down.

Like the score, but feels like we’re playing a little too loose and fast.

I switched to the Iowa women’s game for a minute, Caitlin Clark really is the female Steph Curry, infinite range. Amazing player.

I-Hart in 15 minutes: 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, 1 steal, 0 turnovers.

Well the Pistons won the second quarter so no one’s getting a rest tonight.

Brunson kind of doesn’t look for Bojan that much.

Brunson read his Greek Mythology about Medusa when he was a kid…

Cool shot by Brunson, but did he have to make my heart stop by pretending to be dead for a bit?

Ok we’re up by 30 and the Pistons are playing sub-G League level players. Thibs’ psycho ass needs to give some of these guys a rest. Shake Milton can probably hold down this particular fort

Hart is at 7-12-7 and I’m not sure if it’s harder for him to get the 3 remaining assists or points.

If somebody gets hurt in this game Thibs should be immediately fired.

He’s playing a seven man rotation in this ridiculous game. This is idiotic

Doesn’t Charlie Brown want to play on a team, even if it’s in a different league, that allows him to play basketball every now and then?

Donte’s true shooting percentage for this game is over 1. He broke the formula.

They can take a shot away without a challenge like that?

They did this in some other Knicks game and that’s when I learned about this rule. I find it crazy. How can you eliminate a shot several possessions after it happens! What if this happens in a close game? The fact that the shot initially counted changes the calculus for subsequent possessions.

If you win two challenges you should get two new ones, and the referee should do a little dance of shame on center court.

Hart is at 7-12-7 and I’m not sure if it’s harder for him to get the 3 remaining assists or points.

he’s up to 9 assists, they’ll get him the points…

i’m not sure what exactly to make of all the josh triple doubles this season…

other than that he’s been playing a lot of minutes each game since OG and julius went out…

he’s talented, great energy, too many turnovers…definitely valuable to have on the team…

he’s great in a reduced role…

At least Bogdanovic is getting some confidence back by scoring on his awful ex-teammates

Pretty funny Bogey is currently -7 playing with top 8 guys against this horrid Detroit squad…

For a sharpshooter, it’s weird that some of Bogdan’s shots look off from the moment he releases them

Even when Bogey gets the ball in perfect rhythm wide open in the corner he bricks the shot

No 28 point lead with 8 minutes left against the worst team in the league’s second string is safe.

I just don’t get it. Literally all of these guys might be in the playoff rotation. Just put in Shake/Brown/Obi’s bro. You can yank them if it gets to 15.

For a sharpshooter, it’s weird that some of Bogdan’s shots look off from the moment he releases them

he looks so old and slow out there, it’s as though he’s about to crumble to dust at any moment…

Donte, McBride, and Hart are all going to get 40 minutes in this wire-to-wire blowout against possibly the worst team fielded by an NBA team this season.

I just can’t with this shit.

Oh good Hartenstein is in.

if i was on the knicks roster – i’d wanna be out on the court against the pistons…

jalen, isaiah and the rest of the guys are having fun too – josh got his triple double – they’ll get donte his three…

edit: oops, 1 more to go…

shake better help donte get that 3…

A noncompetitive game like this is probably like Zone 2 cardio for these guys so I guess it’s not that big a deal. It’s kinda hilarious, though.

Only Donte and Shake should be allowed to shoot for the rest of the game.

Frickin’ Fournier. Where was this defense before he got benched?

We now know that the one thing that would have forced Evian to play defense would be someone threatening to break his 3pt record.

BANG!!!! Love that screen by iHart!! Glad Thibs pulled everyone right after he hit it too!

“Can’t watch and am wondering how Clyde is handling Tosan Evbuomwan”

Owen, that’s really funny. Of course I’m stoned so everything is funny!

“Atlanta beat the Celtics after being down 30.”

Now that’s REALLY funny!

Love that J Hart didn’t even realize Donte got the franchise record for 3s tonight. Just feeding the hot hand not forcing anything.

Also loved seeing Mark Normand in Celebrity Row. COMEDY!!!!

DET was literally the worst team I’ve ever seen.

It is kind of crazy.

God, KD is such a dick. Wouldn’t mind him on the Knicks, though…

DiVincenzo reminded me of two things:
-How good Klay is….he plays the same game as DDV is playing this year, only bigger and better.
-How good Starks shot relative to his peers in ’94-95. He made 217 out of our 523 threes at a league average 36% and led the league in attempts and makes. This year we have 910 threes and no team has less than 780 with 10+ games left. After tonight, the Celts have over 1200 made threes.

That was an easy one, and yet nobody told Thibs. I’m assuming he demands that nobody ever tells him the score during the game.
