Still a bit uneasy about the DeJounte Murray rumblings…hopefully he winds up in LA so LeBron has another player to throw under the bus.

I just don’t understand what the Lakers could possibly offer to the Hawks that would be worth Murray.

Star J hit a minor speed bump in his quest for greatness down in the Salt Lake City

Will Hardy is also a very good coach

Joe Mazzulla reminds me of Tex Winters and Jim Cleamons, guys you’d definitely love to have as assistants, but you probably don’t want to make them head coaches.

By the way, Jim Cleamons has now, for the past seven years, been an assistant coach at Yeshiva University’s high school basketball team. That’s…weird, right?

Brunson questionable tonight with a half contusion. Apparently he was walking gingerly so definitely partial to holding him out. This Grizzlies team is terrible, we should be able to win anyway.

    Now you’ve done it 😉

Logically, they 100% should give him the day off, especially with this particular matchup. Will they, though?

Noble, learn from Brian’s mistake last night! Geez!

Say it with me, everyone: we’re DOOMED

I’m extremely skeptical that Deuce can play point guard for long minutes, but I’m curious to at least see it, so we know for sure before the deadline.

I almost hope Brunson is out because imo we have to resolve the backup PG issue. First we need to know what would happen if Brunson gets hurt and misses serious time. If they struggle, it raises the probability of trading for Murray or Brogdon.

P&T has a good synopsis of the Michael Scotto/Bobby Marks podcast where they talked about various Knicks things:

Interesting bit about Toronto valuing IQ as being worth two first round picks. I wonder if the rest of the league saw him that way.

This Grizzlies team is terrible, we should be able to win anyway.

They are actually very good, but totally decimated by injuries and the suspension.

The healthy Grizzlies are one of the best teams in the NBA, but that’s not this Grizzlies team.

Yes. They are even more decimated now than earlier.

I hate to even ponder the kinds of threads we’d get here about management and team building if we had as many injuries and issues as the Grizzlies this year even though it’s mostly just bad luck.

Small sample and everything, but I think it’s a good summary of his PG performance that Deuce has four games with a sub-100 ORtg with 1 more at 104 since we got OG. That’s really terrible.

Whether it’s him or the general lack of offensive pop, the bench needs an upgrade on the attacking side.

On the other hand, Mr. McBride’s per 36 is 17 pts and 4 assists per game, which is, well, cromulent I suppose, but also while sporting a .600 TS%, .463 from three, and, well, a 1.0 BPM.

Yes, I was talking about the team the New York Knicks will be playing tonight.

Everyone else made a good point though. I should know better, and also without Brunson I’m not confident in our ability to beat, well, anyone. Does Deuce start…?

Did he seriously only have a 104 in the Philly game?!

That was the one good game at a nice 140, but 1/6 isn’t great and when it’s bad it’s been really bad.

Moreover, this is with him and Grimes scorching the nets in January, both are over 45% from 3, and it still hasn’t really worked.

Give him to the deadline, and maybe you can keep him and move someone else or maybe Thibs figures out how to make OG more productive with the ball, but they need a change.

Tom Thibodeau is our coach. If Jalen Brunson still has one leg attached to his body he will play at least 38 minutes

Let’s not exaggerate… you can shoot as long as you have an arm, if he learns to Air Bud it with his head he’s staying in as a quadriplegic

That was the one good game at a nice 140, but 1/6 isn’t great and when it’s bad it’s been really bad.

Okay, phew, I was, like, “How in the world was that game only a 104?!”

But yeah, overall, agreed, that game was amazing and it was so obviously a huge, huge outlier.

Anecdotally it seems that the bench units get a lot of bad shots and turnovers, so that matches it. The lack of ball handling and, perhaps more importantly, penetration is very clear.

If Brunson is out do you start Hart or Grimes and basically play DDV at PG or do you start Deuce and just have DDV and Randle initiate the offense?

Ooh, I like DDV better. I kinda thought he’d be a better backup PG awhile back, but he’s been so awesome in the starting lineup you hate to change it. I think he’s a better ball handler than Deuce and better running the PnR.

Bane is officially out and Jackson Jr is now doubtful. Knicks could play their Westchester team and still win this game.

They really should just give Brunson the night off at this rate. As for what they’d do if Brunson actually did take the game off (and there’s no way he’s actually resting tonight), I think I’d let Deuce start, but DDV would get most of the PG minutes.

Why would they give Deuce a multi year contract if they didn’t intend to use him in the rotation? Is the contract worth something in a deal? Seems a big commitment to make to a non rotation player. If this was his audition why would they pay him first? Is this a player who is actually good or is this Ron Baker again?

It does feel a bit Ron Baker-esque, but obviously they knew they were dealing IQ, and I guess they were just confident that Deuce would do well enough that it would be hard for them to resign him if he did well. It’s not a ton of money, but yeah, it’s so odd.

Game Thread 2023-24 Knicks @ Memphis (What’s left of them opener, which is not a thing)
    -By Brian Cronin

Tonight the Knicks have no chance whatsoever of losing against the decaying husk of the Memphis Grizzlies

Unfortunately I have to miss the game, took wife to opera and now doing dinner. Hopefully will emerge to a happy result!

I just don’t understand what the Lakers could possibly offer to the Hawks that would be worth Murray.

I’m wondering if maybe we’ve all misjudged the Murray market and he’s actually just being dumped.

Remember the price they paid for him includes one of Leon’s fugazi firsts. It wasn’t actually three first round picks.

They really only traded two firsts and a swap. If they can get one first back and dump his salary that might just be enough for them to call it a day.
