2023-24 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Trailblazers (Future Knick Malcolm Brogdon Opener, which is not a thing)

The Knicks host the shitty Trailblazers, thus allowing them to get a good look at possible future Knick, Malcolm Brogdon, as they kick Portland’s collective ass.

The 53 win tracker is so close to returning…

Let’s go, Knicks!

I literally had to look up who Dia Lupa was just now.

I’m also a lot younger than Doogie, but I’m figuratively a Boomer I guess.

Can’t watch the game — not on NBA.com and not on Hulu for some effing reason. I blame it on Lipa.

Look forward to a good game thread…

Can’t watch the game — not on NBA.com

Weird. I have it on league pass. Is that different from nba.com?

It’s coming up for me.

I think it’s because it’s local, even if I’m in a different state.

So I blame it entirely on Jowles.

I normally think the efficiency numbers of rookie point guards can basically be fully ignored…but Scoot’s been at that “so god damn bad you have to worry at least a little” level.

I think he’ll get it together to some extent, but the highest upside scenarios might already be out the window.

Did Detroit score 47 points in the first quarter? That is literally bonkers.

Oh yeah, I’d guess if your anywhere in the PNW you can’t get this game regardless of state. I know you can’t get Knicks games in CT, NJ, and large parts of PA.

Announcer just called Devo “the big ragu” after that steal. Is that allowed 😉

That pass from Jalen might keep OG happy with his touches.

EDIT: And that one, too. Hahaha

Da Rules…just so you know – you will now and forever always be a mighty member to me…

mighty indeed…

Edit: just noticed, yours is kind of like the middle finger raven, donnie got the space invaders thing going on…noble’s looks like that watchman thing, i keep waiting for it to move…jk’s looks like one of them aztec faces, and hubie’s is a castle…

Garden is rocking (my long forgotten Fubo account has saved the day…).

OG’s “pass first” approach takes some getting used to but with the way he keeps moving and moving, it forces everyone else to move, creates some weird rhythm and seems to work.

Yeah, fresh change from, “Stand in the corner and wait.”

Randle seems to have taken that Athletic article as a challenge to hoist threes again.

If OG had played with Ewing they’d have had to hire a couple of additional mop guys

i think that may be standard for red head folks with italian heritage…

roomed with a buddy from work a couple of times during this week long conference we would support…he had red hair and was mexican…people would “literally” fucking comment about the seeming discrepancy between his name tag and hair color during damn near every elevator ride…

after a while, he stopped wearing his name tag until he hit the convention center…he got it there though too, heard about from everywhere…

he was a hard trying christian, so he didn’t really fuck with people for it…

That undrafted center looks pretty solid! But these guys suck, let’s get Deuce his career high. OG is downright Novakian from the corners.

OG’s lack of emotion never ceases to amaze me.

We should promote a contest to see who smiles first, OG or Sims? 😀

Next step for Deuce is to stop being afraid of driving into the paint. You can see he’s quick enough to get in there and is obviously athletic enough to finish at the rim.

Is anyone alarmed at how quickly and seemlessly professional gambling has entered our sports telecasts? I remember when this was shunned.

OG smiled!

Is anyone alarmed at how quickly and seemlessly professional gambling has entered our sports telecasts? I remember when this was shunned.

yes, like five years ago ras 🙂

Is anyone alarmed at how quickly and seemlessly professional gambling has entered our sports telecasts?

Yes.

There was a 1991 action movie with Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans titled the Last Boy Scout where the main conspiracy involved the attempts of a crooked owner to bribe a senator into legalizing sports gambling in the state of California for professional football. That nefarious plot that the good guys had to stop from corrupting the sport is now the reality.

Good help D from Julius. I really don’t think he’s a subpar defender – just gets lost sometimes. He’s the king of unexplainable errors… But generally ok on D and excellent on O.

Maybe Josh Hart is the playmaker the bench mob needs?

So far he has been making good plays for the Blazers.

The commercials don’t alarm me but MSG had a gambling guy on the pregame recommending to bet the over on Brunson’s points tonight. That was a bit much.

That’s the thing which is really getting me. Now they are bringing in gambling analysts to tell you how to bet on games.

ESPN running a sportsbook is a catastrophically bad idea. They are going to wind up with some of their talent in prison

You can see why CAA was able to fool everyone into thinking a lot of teams wanted OG Anunoby

I like Gus. A serviceable replacement for Breen.

He’s good, but he needs to remove his lips from Clyde’s ass a little bit and treat him like a normal dude.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

We’re too good now for the bad teams of the league. I see a lot of blowouts during the regular season.

Is it me or does Grimes look like he has improved hops around the basket to get rebounds?

MSG had a gambling guy on the pregame recommending to bet the over on Brunson’s points tonight. That was a bit much.

As stated above, I’m not Boomer, but I’m still old enough to remember Jimmy the Greek giving betting advice in the booth before games way back when.

Is it me or does Grimes look like he has improved hops around the basket to get rebounds?

It’s you – he’s always been a fantastic athlete.

What a block by Randle….

Um are the refs just gonna let Portland foul the shit out of Randle to help them get back into the game?

I’m still old enough to remember Jimmy the Greek giving betting advice in the booth before games way back when.

Yeah but those guys were smoking cigarettes on camera, too. We’re supposed to have learned.

We’re too good now for the bad teams of the league. I see a lot of blowouts during the regular season.

I want this so badly. Killer instinct practice and — Rest. Rest. Rest.

I could just be delirious with joy but this team looks like maybe it found a ladder out of the mezzanine.

Put it this way… if we get Best Julius, then we are probably a contender right now.

Nice half. Everything’s under control and it’s kind of late here, see you tomorrow, guys. 🙂

… if we get Best Julius, then we are probably a contender right now.

Not to mention back to back “Best defensive half” of the season. Oh my.

This MSG DJ is straight out of the Keith Hernandez shop of late 80s porn.

Everything’s under control and it’s kind of late here, see you tomorrow, guys.

I feel the same way and it’s only 8:44pm.

Scoot is really unimpressive… if not outright terrible.

This team refuses to lose to trash teams and I like that very much.

Portland should trade Brogdan at this point. They aren’t winning anything and should get as many picks as possible to retool and rebuild.

Shots of young Josh Hart in cap and gown at his Villanova graduation are pretty charming. Haha.

Btw- All the players speak of having good character guys in the locker room. No Drama. All for one, yadda, yadda. Does that work against any of the guys we’re dreaming of acquiring? And/or Who’s the highest character guy out there as a good complementary piece?

To paraphrase Donnie, I’m not a boomer but I’m old enough to want to go to bed when they do. G’night, all. 16-0 January. Believe.

Maybe it’ll be more exciting for you, d-mar, if you started laying bets on when Thibs will pull the starters toward the end of the game.

Thankfully Hartenstein is our only good defensive player because damn, he’s really fucking good.

Maybe it’ll be more exciting for you, d-mar, if you started laying bets on when Thibs will pull the starters toward the end of the game.

I think he’s feeling a little crazy tonight, 3 minutes left in the game

Elite pg
Elite level C D play
Elite wing defender
Elite PF scoring

Not just winning; destroying

iHart’s passing is so much fun to watch, but it might be time for some Sims…

All the players speak of having good character guys in the locker room. No Drama.

Yeah, culture is everything and we don’t need a primadonna. It’s hard enough building a healthy culture at MSG and beneath Dolan who leads one of the most dysfunctional corporate organizations in history. Thibs has done a good job in this regard.

It’s been a while since we have outclassed a team so absurdly like this… I’m not complaining.

Seeing those 3 sitting makes me happy. The three most irreplaceable Knicks at the moment.

It’s been a while since we have outclassed a team so absurdly like this… I’m not complaining.

The Philly game wasn’t that long ago.

Jeez, I remember watching Mudiay in person one year when the Knicks were out here playing the Clips – maybe my 2nd year out here in LA. Dude could get into the paint whenever, but had no clue what to do when he got there.

Sims at least knows how to box out (looking at you, My Precious…).

Precious is terrible. Can’t shoot, can’t box out, can’t play defense, can’t pass.

Precious seems like he can do a little bit of everything, just none of it at the NBA level.

It may not get close, but our bench guys should be playing much better than this.

(checks schedule – Raptors at Lakers in about an hour).
Don’t mind if RJ goes for 37 again and he and IQ lead them to a win. Wouldn’t mind that at all – in fact it would make a GREAT capper to the evening.

What’s really fun about OG are the dunks in traffic that RJ could never even dream of doing.

Remember that game we used to play – how many teams would we trade rosters with?

That list gets shorter and shorter

“Remember that game we used to play – how many teams would we trade rosters with?

Just lucky I guess…

Evil Donte…

Will Gus call him “the little ragu”? Don’t touch that dial 😉

Usually when I say I’ve seen enough with the Knicks, it means I can’t bear to watch any more. But this one is different – I’ve seen enough. Sweet dreams, all.

“What’s really fun about OG are the dunks in traffic that RJ could never even dream of doing.”

Ben Ritholtz just did a KFS post-trade pod and said he couldn’t get over how physically big OG was…

Remember that game we used to play – how many teams would we trade rosters with?

This closing lineup feels like the starting lineup for some mid-2000s teams.

Remember that game we used to play – how many teams would we trade rosters with?

I was “insane” last year when I said no to swapping rosters with Cleveland. I still say no 😉

“OG not surprisingly is a man of few words.”

I loved the way he held the mic as if this was his first post-game thing…

OG’s memorized script of short cliches. Brilliantly done.

I may have to turn all my bottled up Barrett hate at Precious. 1-9 tonight.

“I was “insane” last year when I said no to swapping rosters with Cleveland. I still say no 😉”

Yeah, it seems like only yesterday when CLE was being held up as a “what could have been” scenario if only Leon hadn’t fucked up…

Just lucky I guess…

Another strong night from Quentin and Deuce, outscoring their starting counterparts

I’m a precious believer, because that size and movement have a place in the league..he needs to hit shots though

“I’m a precious believer, because that size and movement have a place in the league..he needs to hit shots though”

Don’t hold your breath…

“is mcbride a slightly worse alex caruso if he is shooting well”

Caruso was all-Defense first team. He’s also 6’5″. So probably not “slightly worse.”

However, I will say that Deuce is looking more and more like a $4+M AAV player…

Deuce is 18-37 from 3 this year. I like what I’m seeing, but its way too early to draw any conclusions about whether this is real or just a blip until the league catches up.

Didn’t say draw any conclusions. Just roll around in the bed with that 48.6%, throw it up at the ceiling and cackle like a maniac.

Friday @ DAL will be an excellent measuring stick game for this team. Now there’s 5 games of film for Kidd to study, and Dallas has been playing very well (except for tonight!.)

“Didn’t say draw any conclusions. Just roll around in the bed with that 48.6%, throw it up at the ceiling and cackle like a maniac.”

Believe me, I’ve been a Deuce lover since the draft…no one is rooting harder for him than me! And while my patience has wavered, I’ve said on many occasions that he has shot well at every level except the NBA, so I’m happy that he’s getting this opportunity. I just don’t want to get too giddy until it sticks for more than 5 games…

Evolution of a Knicks fan over the last 4 years.

Going from I can’t watch this game cause I know we’re gonna somehow lose to I better watch this game cause we might win to I don’t need to watch this game cause I know we’re gonna win.

Reminder that we’re doing all of this without Mitch.

And this isn’t to say Mitch should start now just that even if he was coming off the bench we’d be that much stronger.

I wonder if Brogdon (sp) was able to slip a please save me note to Leon.

I fell asleep at 730. Can’t believe it. Getting old.

Speaking of which, Thaddeus Young is still in the NBA? Unreal

I’m not a Guns n Roses guy, but an appropriate title for these last 4 games would be “Appetite for Destruction”

Wow, that Laker-Raps game seems controversial…not to mention a 44-42 4th quarter with a million FTs for the Lakers and hardly any for the Raptors?
