Was watching this clip of Wemby.

The thing that stands out is actually that he has a real motor. That’s a very high level of activity. And his defensive instincts are excellent. Going to be fun to follow his progress.
Can’t believe the season doesn’t start till Wednesday.
I like the hesitation on the fastbreak dunk as if someone is going to get high enough to stop him
So once again the Spurs tanked and got lucky, making it likely that they’ll be contenders again soon. We tank and get RJ, they tank and get Wemby. Some teams are lucky and some don’t.
The fact he can hit free throws pretty huge too.
I’m kind of torn to be rooting for a Celtics player.
There are a lot of good young teams out there. Some will get over the hump, some won’t, but it’s something else to consider when thinking about how long our window really is.
I think the question, at least for OKC, is how many of these players will they be able to keep long-term.
Presumably they have more limited funds than the Knicks or Warriors, so who ends up being the KDs & Russes that stay and who ends up being the Hardens that leave?
OKC has new ownership so hopefully they don’t run into that problem again. I really hated to see them have to break up a potential dynasty because the owner went broke.
I’ll save the wins total for the actual prediction thread but here’s how I’m seeing the East this year:
1. Boston
2. Cleveland
3. Milwaukee
4. Philadelphia
5. New York
6. Atlanta
7. Miami
8. Toronto
9. Brooklyn
10. Indiana
Like Strat, I was excessively optimistic before last year and I don’t feel great about this season. But this team is so deep and so thoroughly coached that I think the 5th seed is its floor.
Cleveland was a really great team in the regular season and unlike us they actually did something to address the shooting problem that derailed their offseason.
I think the Bucks will win the East but they might be a bit too thin to win 55 games.
Miami’s postseason run was impressive but they were 7th in the East last year for a reason.
I really like the Nets but I’m afraid to bet on Ben Simmons.
Obi Toppin did his Obi thing last night.
Yay. Obi with 17 and 9 on 6-of-9 shooting, including a between-the-legs slam during game action. Yay.
Did I mention yay?
And he was “useless” to us. I’m throwing up in my mouth a li’l bit. I’m hoping beyond hope that it is just a “preseason thing.”
Obi is going to win Most Improved and drop 35 on us in the play in game to knock us out isn’t he? 😜
🤔
You really can’t solve that one, Cyber?
Ok, i guess you mean the playoffs. As we were talking about the regular season, didn’t come to mind. Thanks for your “explanation”.
Lol sorry I was starting to type it out then I suddenly began to resent having to explain it 🙁
But you nailed it. Bucks to win the eastern conference playoffs despite finishing 3rd in the standings.
We’ll see if the Bucks can win against the Knicks big 3 (Brunson, Randle… Embiid). 😀
Oof. Frank Ntilikina injured again. Out at least 4 weeks. Homie can’t catch a break!
Anyone else starting to feel a little queasy about the impending IQ deadline?
Guess not.
I am not queasy about it. I think they know his value.
I’d like to think so, too. But then why the torturous hold-up until almost the last possible moment to get it done?
I’ll be watching a lot of Indiana, San Antonio, and OKC games this year.
OK; cool.
Doogie, the reason to wait for the last possible moment is because of the poison pill. Once you sign him to the extension he’ll become very hard to trade. So usually front-offices wait for the last day, to have the trade chip for as long as possible. Of course, there’s also the possibility that the Knicks are offering less than what Quick wants, and both parties agree to wait for June to get back to the negotiations.
It would be a pretty major blunder to let IQ hit free agency, and this isn’t the area Leon makes his blunders. Randle, RJ, Mitch… he nailed all those extensions.
My guess is the extension is lower than IQ wants it to be and the delay is him trying to get more but having no leverage to do so.
Recap – Roster: 13 players (including DaQuan) and 2 open spots; 2-Way: Dylan Windler, Charlie Brown Jr, Jacob Toppin;
I’m not worried about IQ at all. If a deal doesn’t get done, it can get done in the off-season. We went through this nonsense with Mitch, and he was unrestricted, so at worst IQ is a RFA, someone signs him to an offer sheet, and we either match it or don’t, depending on how he plays this year. But losing the ability to trade him before the deadline is pretty limiting. Unless he’s willing to sign a reasonable deal right now, let it ride.
Some team signing Quick to an offer sheet and we don’t match it, would be an OK scenario? 😮
It would suck, but if IQ wants $35M AAV a year right now or else, would you be okay with paying it? I mean, what is he asking for right now, and what is the team offering? Should we just assume that if he doesn’t sign, it means the FO was either trying to low-ball him, or that they just don’t want to sign him because of the poison pill?
Again, with all the KB ink that was wasted over the prospect of losing Mitch for nothing, forgive me if I have a bit of Boy who Cried Wolf syndrome.
I don’t think Quick is asking for 35M, that would make him the highest paid player on the Knicks. But i’m also not worried, because Leon has proved to be very good at handling this matters (extensions, contracts). The only fear for letting this drag till next offseason is if some tanking team decides Quick would be a great piece for them and overpays. Like the Spurs, they need a PG and Quick fits the timeline.
BBR is projecting Quick for 19/5/5 this upcoming season. I kind of want him on the team. They really need to figure out a way to get him into the starting lineup and let RJ be in there with JHart off the bench. The only problem with that is if the Knicks are balking at Quick’s request by saying that they can’t pay starter money to a non-starter. If they put him in the starting lineup…….well, that’s a non-starter.
About the wasted ink, i agree some topics waste a lot more ink than they should, but hey we’re here to talk Knicks and sometimes people like to talk over and over about some of those topics. 😉 I’d say at least Frank and the 19th pick got a lot more “attention” than Mitch’s extension. 😛 Or, trying to summon Alan, the Vildoza topic! 😀
“I’d say at least Frank and the 19th pick got a lot more “attention” than Mitch’s extension. 😛”
Well at least one elderly poster saw clear as day that Frank would be a huge bust before he was even drafted! 😉
And yes, the 19th pick (considered separately from the Cam Reddish part, as it should be) was an even greater waste of ink than worrying about Mitch, as it made zero difference in terms of what our expectations were going into the draft with what we actually came out of it with.
But at least that and drafting Frank were actual events, and not just worrying about one that might theoretically happen in a worst case scenario….especially considering that the current FO hasn’t had that happen, and in fact actually just gained a star player on a great contract by giving up nothing! (Actually two, if you count not trading Randle for nothing, if you catch my drift….)
It actually is a super small sample size.
This is what djphan was talking about, i.e. paying for shooting volatility.
Immanuel Quickley, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry… come on… one of these does not belong.
Cybersoze, I think 14 players are on the roster because if Roby is on an exhibit 10 that’s a real contract for the NBA minimum salary unless the exhibit clause is invoked.
My love affair with Quickley is more about his impact on winning than it is about his overall stats or stats as a starter. My only knock on him is his lack of consistency, but when he’s shooting well and bringing good energy on both sides, the Knicks move to a whole new level. He’s a high impact, high IQ, two way player. I’m more than willing to pay him a little extra because I think he’s going to continue inching forward. It would just be tough to make him the highest paid player on the team.
IQ finished 11th & 10th in ft% his first 2 years in the league. He’s a good shooter. The fluke is that he shot 34.6% from 3 as a sophomore. He can shoot shoot.

RJ has been fortunate to stay healthy.
If he gets hurt and is out for ~6 weeks, will never get his starting job back.
I don’t think they would ice RJ out. But replacing him with someone better is our easiest improvement, as often noted.
Starting Grimes, JB, Randle, Mitch and IQ is the way to go.
Is RJ worth 2 lighltly protected 1RPs?
Grimes, RJ, Hart , DDV, IQ
We have 5 players competing to start at the 2 and 3 spots. This is why IQ will not be extended. RJ + 1 of those other 4 players should be packaged with draft picks for a 2way forward with length who can shoot.
Since Mikal and/or OG are not available, – who else is out there that fits? –
RJ for Miles Bridges + 1FRP?
Keels was waived by the Timberwolves. I guess the Knicks were right about him, but it still hurts that we seem to have nobody new in the development pipeline,We just have a bunch of live bodies to make team practices hard fought.
“RJ for Miles Bridges + 1FRP?”
Really?
Sorry. Bad joke.
“But replacing him with someone better is our easiest improvement, as often noted.”
Even easier is if that player is actually an improved version of RJ…sort of like the one we saw in the playoffs.
i believe – RJ’s “turnaround” at this point would be a huge statistical outlier…
who knows for certain though, that’s why they play the games 🙂
heck he’s only 27, so maybe this is his year…
