Good bounce back game for RJ.

strat…you’re gamblier extrordinnaire…what’s the over/under on how many times someone types that line into this blog over the next 9 months?

My guess is that Lebanon would struggle against a high-level D1 team, let alone a team loaded with NBA players.

In other words, what happens in FIBA should stay in FIBA. Nothing is translatable or transferable to the NBA.

Beyond that, I do think that the quarterfinals and beyond should be fun, as there are some pretty competitive teams out there. While Team USA is heavily favored, Team Canada looks pretty formidable. France, Australia, Germany, and Spain all have a puncher’s chance. But all I care about is that our 3 rotation players come back to the western hemisphere in one piece.

Omari Spellman briefly played in the NBA. Judging by his FIBA profile pic, he’s gone full Eddy Curry

FIBA is more relevant than ever for the Knicks. My order of importance :
-as Z-man said, health of Brunson, Hart, RJ
    -health of Fournier
-play of Fournier to boost his value
-play of RJ to not decrease his value
-USA winning it with Brunson an acknowledged leader
-Steve Kerr’s positive comments on Brunson
-Steve Kerr’s positive comments on Hart
-in case France wins it, complete reassessment of Fournier’s value to us and others

Reasoning is that while health takes priority, Fournier is going to be traded, RJ will likely be included in a mega trade, and Kerr is probably as good of a spokesman as you can get.

BE I do agree with having Fournier go nuclear being a plus….since his availability is well known, I would assume that teams that are desperate for shooting are closely monitoring him.

The other stuff doesn’t matter much to me. RJ’s play probably means next to nothing. He’s almost certainly not being traded before the NBA season starts. Everyone already knows that he’s capable of both hot streaks and cold streaks. I think it would take a long, sustained period of strong NBA play (like a half a season) before any front office dramatically changes how they feel about him, for better or worst…a couple of weeks in FIBA won’t move the needle at all.

Brunson is who he is, and Hart is who he is, so I doubt that FIBA will matter beyond whether they stay healthy. While I agree that it feels nice to hear, I don’t think Kerr’s praise is changing anyone’s mind. Honestly, Spo’s effusive praise of Brunson after the second round meant more than anything Kerr could add. Not to mention that Kerr seems to have quietly elevated Hali since his initial comments.

    Well so much for France…

well…if Frank would have been in there…they would have been locks for the final

Wow, some exciting results from FIBA today

I know Finland sucks outside of Markkatten but I figured they’d have enough surrounding him to beat Japan

strat…you’re gamblier extrordinnaire…what’s the over/under on how many times someone types that line into this blog over the next 9 months?

I’d say we’ll switch our views on him about 40 times. I would say 82, but I expect him to occasionally string good or bad games together. 🙂

well…if Frank would have been in there…they would have been locks for the final

I’m not sure if they would have won or lost, but Frank would have been +5 and done nothing in the boxscore. 🙂

RJ’s play probably means next to nothing

Here is where we disagree. It means everything in terms of his off season progression.

about halfway through the germany/australia game…

dennis schroder is playing absolutely possessed…that’s cool he’s the captain of the german team…he’s had an interesting nba journey…

I love how international competition really elevates everyone’s effort…

“Here is where we disagree. It means everything in terms of his off season progression.”

I’ll put it this way…if he played extremely well, would you bet that it would carry over into the NBA season? (I wouldn’t…but sure, I’d be encouraged, as I was by his playoffs.)

Conversely, if he played poorly, would you bet that he would not progress once the NBA season started? (Again, I wouldn’t but some are convinced he is pretty much hopeless and might…)

So my point is that nothing he does will give me any more confidence that he’s gotten over the hump and is primed for a leap…but nothing he doesn’t do will erase the hope I had for him based on his playoff performance. It’s just the optics that shift.

People may not remember this (me until now) but Spellman was briefly a Knick after we arbitraged GOAT Ed Davis for a 2nd. OAKAAK.

trying to think of positives to the yankees season:
    – boone is one step closer to the door
    – cashman is one step closer to the door
    – there’s a chance judge’s toe won’t be a lingering thing
    – hopefully i’ll never have to watch josh donaldson in pinstripes again
    – volpe developed okay, his fielding wasn’t that bad
    – torres wasn’t terrible
    – lemahieu can’t get any worse right
    – rodon will get on a roll at some point
    – we still got judge and cole on the team
    – i’m sure we’ll have a good bullpen again next year
    – the farm system isn’t terrible: https://www.mlb.com/prospects/yankees/

memorable season…i still can’t believe it’s true cashman was serious about going to get juan soto, at any point this season…the first person who would even mention that in a meeting should be terminated…

On the other hand, it’s pretty sweet to be a Mariner’s fan at the moment.

Won’t last, but pretty sweet. Live in the moment, they say…

Talk about a fair weather fan. I haven’t been in the ballpark since a 200! Playoff game.
Isn’t seattle trying the hybrid approach?
