Isiah sucks, but it was pretty great taunting by him about Dillon Brooks saying he doesn’t respect anyone unless they score 40 on him, and then the Lakers eliminated Memphis by 40 points!

uh, it looks like Darvin Ham revealed that Mike Budenholzer lost a brother before Game-4 of the Miami series…

I feel sick that I’m somewhat enjoying a Lakers win, but this Grizzlies team is so unlikeable they made me do it.

Yeah Bruno, it’s a strange feeling, like a dirtiness,
but it’s impossible to cheer for Dirty-Dillon Brooks and Bad-Boy Ja…

Yeah 100% wanted the Lakers to win. Now we need Sacto to win game 7 and take care of the Lakers in the next round.

Then we’ll be down to Sacto, Phoenix and Denver and I could live with any of those teams being in the Finals.

Yeah, if the Warriors and Lakers get eliminated I’m perfectly fine with any western team left, also happy if Philly beats Boston, it would compensate a little bit the fact that we’re DOOMED against the Heat.

Big onions win from the Kings.

I’ve been a Fox believer since college but right now I took a step up, I think Fox > Spida

He’s probably the faster player with the ball in his hands of the entire league…

Yeah, huge win for Sacto and the Lakers being so rootable is a true testament to how effective the Grizzlies heel turn has been.

Then that makes 3 additions: Joshua, Isaiah, and of course Jeremiah.

Let’s not forget that we also have Jericho and Immanuel.

Oh, wait. Who is Jeremiah, again? And sorry, but Josh Hart’s first name is actually…….Josh.

I knew the Kings would win last night, because Knicks/Kings NBA Finals has been destined.

As long as we’re getting this far ahead of ourselves, Phoenix is the only team in the West that would feel truly daunting to me. I have no idea how you strategize against three guys who can genuinely get off a good look with no help whatsoever in the playoffs. There’s only one Josh Hart to go around.

Oh, wait. Who is Jeremiah, again? And sorry, but Josh Hart’s first name is actually…….Josh.

For those of you with a biblical bent Jeremiah is known as the Prophet of…you got it…Doom. And Josh Hart’s father is Moses Hart, so I figured Josh must be Joshua on his birth certificate.

I was also rooting for the Lakers only because the silver lining to missing this Knicks run is that there is some epic basketball going on in California right now. Either Lakers v Kings or Lakers v Warriors is going to be a great two weeks.

I really want the Kings to win because I would love to go to a game in Sacramento.

The Magic are going to have two top ten picks in this draft, right? Man, they could be an interesting team next year.

The Magic are going to have two top ten picks in this draft, right?

The Bulls giving up two firsts (one of which became Franz Wagner, the other is the one Brian is referring to) and Wendall Carter for Nikola Vucevic feels like karmic revenge for the Eddy Curry trade.

If Julius can’t go in game 1, seems like we are going to have to run some smaller lineups out there. Obi likely won’t any more than 30-35 minutes, and I can’t see iHart on the floor with Mitch. Hopefully Obi can do enough to keep Love from going off from 3 and then get out on the break to put pressure on Love to run the floor. In the non-Obi minutes, I guess you have to put RJ at the 4, and the Heat don’t have a 4 that RJ can’t theoretically match up with.

One thing is for sure, we have to stay out of foul trouble.

Yeah you gotta root for a Kings/Lakers matchup where the Kings can get their 20-something-year revenge.

And yes, the Laker trolls are yapping again. It doesn’t help at all that Laker fans feel they have no need to understand advanced stats. #lolKnicksSupv invited me over to the crib yesterday since I was in his neck of the woods to cover our baseball team on the road. We’re watching Kings/Warriors when the inevitable Knicks slander begins.

Him: so the Knicks are about to lose to a play-in team in the next round.
Me: the only guy we gotta worry about on the Heat is PlayoffJimmy*
Him: You guys need stars. Should’ve gotten Donovan Mitchell
Me: We have a star. Jalen Brunson.
    Him: Who?
    Me: JALEN BRUNS-HIM.
–He begins to look up Brunson–
Him: He’s the 33rd ranked player in the league. He’s not HIM.
Me: Look up his stats, man!
    –looks up stats–
    Him: He shoots 49%.
Me: He’s over 50% from two, and almost 42% from three. Those are legit numbers.
Him: Is he better than Ja Morant? Steph Curry? He’s not even better than De’Aaron Fox… Those guys are HIM. He’s not HIM
–I pull up highlights on YouTube–
    Me: Check these highlights, man.
–He takes a cursory (at best) look–
Him: I hate small guards. They can’t win you championships.
Me: Isiah Thomas was a small guard and he won 2**
Him: He had four great players with him. Knicks have nobody great.*** You need to trade Brunson for Damian Lillard.
Me: Dame’s like 33. And he doesn’t wanna leave Portland. C’mon now.

*Yes I know we’re doomed to be felled by Playoff Jimmy but Laker fans aren’t sophisticated enough to get such humor.
**I’m sorry to have had to bring his name up, but he was the first such guy I could think of
***Laker fans hateJulius Randle. They think he’s complete trash and haven’t paid any attention to him since he left. They thumb their noses at him every time his name is brought up, like he hasn’t made the All-Star team twice as a Knick. Also, unless a team has a household name on the team, they have no working knowledge of said team. This is completely separate from the issues we know he’s had (and has largely improved upon this year).

I think going small against the Heat is actually a good choice because it forces Kevin Love to play defense, which is always good. As surprisingly useful as he’s been in the playoffs, he’s not the inside presence on the boards he used to be, so I’m confident that Mitch can dominate the match-up inside like he did against the Cavs, specially if the guards are getting inside the paint on drives and pulling Adebayo away from the rim to contest shots.

That will obviously require RJ, and specially Quickley, to be able to beat their man, considering Butler will check Brunson or Barrett most of the time and the others will be matched up against Lowry, Vincent, Martin and Strus or Robinson. I like their chances against those guys.

    @CDiggy

I feel for what you have to endure with Lakers’ fans…

And BTW I’m so happy we’ve just dismembered the team that traded for Mitchell…

    #StrenghtInNumbers (but doomed nonetheless)

“considering Butler will check Brunson or Barrett…”

I don’t recall whether the Heat ever threw Butler at Brunson during the regular season other than situational switches…it would be an interesting look. That would certainly be an invitation for RJ to have a lot of opportunities to make plays in the paint (hopefully smart ones!)

I would expect to see mostly Gabe Vincent and Kyle Lowry on Brunson, with Jimmy maybe coming over to blitz, but who knows? Spoelstra will definitely try to come up with something if Brunson gets rolling…

Yeah, the one thing we can know for sure about Spo is that if the Knicks win, he’ll actually make an adjustment in the next game, unlike JB “Should I change anything? Nah” Bickerstaff.

It does feel like Gabe Vincent is going to kill us. He always seems to have random career games against us and I expect that to continue.

I mean I kind of give Bickerstaff a pass because it was so obvious that he didn’t have much to go to. His bench really stunk to high heaven, especially once he put LeVert in the starting lineup.

Spo is a genius, but he may run into the same problem. He can deploy his guys differently, but after Butler and Bam it’s really pick your poison. Every other guy on the team either has a hole in his game or is old as the hills.

If Randle is out, one thing that might work well is to RUN, RUN, RUN…which would obviously be counterintuive to a typical Thibs pacing but if we hit the defensive boards or get some TOs and get Hart, Obi, and IQ out in transition we could run them ragged.

The key is to play D without fouling, especially Jimmy.

“It does feel like Gabe Vincent is going to kill us. He always seems to have random career games against us and I expect that to continue.”

The Heat do have some random guys who can go off in any given game…Vincent, Robinson, Strus, Love and Lowry can all have big games if they get hot and aren’t defended well. I have a good feeling about our ability to defend them, and they have to defend us too. In the last regular season game, Vincent went off but so did Grimes and IQ.

Herro was a problem for us during the regular season, and the Heat losing him is pretty huge. But if you look at the Bucks series stats, it was Duncan Robinson, Kevin Love and Caleb Martin who mostly picked up the slack.

The NBA app has 1999 Heat Knicks Game 5 to watch if you want to get even more hyped for tomorrow.

I saw Air last night. Found it to be pretty good. Favorite part was definitely the Terence Stansbury and Lancaster Gordon jokes. (They went deep for the laughs)

Cdiggy, that is a great story. Their management seems to think that way too. I don’t know if the fans learned it from management or vice versa. But they certainly have no patience with young players.

I had forgotten about Terence Stansbury. I went to the University of Delaware, and he is from the town where the university is located (Newark, DE). He was disappointed not to have been recruited by them, and went to Temple instead. (Bad move by Delaware.) I believe he came in third in three consecutive NBA Dunk Contests back in the day.

Anyway, none of that is my point. My point is something that we all know, but tend to forget: That the scrubbiest of scrubby NBA players at the end of any NBA bench are moons and stars better than any of us. I played in a pickup game with Stansbury—he was on my team—and no one else out there was NBA or even elite college level. Basically all we had to do was throw it up near the rim in his general vicinity and he would just grab it wherever he was and dunk the hell out of it. No one could even contest. It was fun if you were on his team; hell if you weren’t.

Just a reminder of how good Trevor Keels is at the game of basketball.

Aaaaaaand…….you guys forgot to say happy birthday to me yesterday.

Oh, wait. You didn’t know. 🙂

Downtown, my version of that is Dan Gadzuric, posted it on the board before. He was an extraterrestrial.

    Always love those stories.

And the last 13 minutes of The Flying Dutchman’s (Dan Gadzuric’s) NBA career were with………our beloved New York Knicks.

The only NBA player I’ve ever seen play who I don’t think could put up Wilt numbers in a pickup game is Frank Ntilikina

I played against Dr J in a pick-up game in Philly once. Beat him 11-9.

Sure, he’d been retired for a dozen years and was wearing flip flops.

But a win is a win.

I think we can agree that the skill level required to make multiple millions of dollars for people being willing to pay for watching one doing something must be pretty high….

“I played against Dr J in a pick-up game in Philly once. Beat him 11-9.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And !!!!!!!!!!!

Can you tell us how such a game came about? Like, where the hell was this?

I played against Tim Hardaway Sr in an adult basketball league in 2005. I only scored 2 pts but it was a baseline jumper over Hardaway who didn’t exactly close out on me aggressively. My team got pissed at one point during the game cause he got fouled on a 3pt shot which was a bullshit call and I kinda talked trash to him while he was shooting FTs about the Knicks always beating him. He laughed throughout and made all 3 FTs.

After the game he playfully slapped my ass so even though I hated him as a fan I got a bit more respect for him now lol

Can you tell us how such a game came about? Like, where the hell was this?

At a court on South Broad. There was a running game there every afternoon. Winners stay on. I looked over to see who was coming on next, and it was the Doctor. I was 22 then, and he was my age now, so I know now that he couldn’t jump anymore, or move sideways, or bend over to tie his shoes because I’ve lost all those skills myself. But it still felt pretty cool to win one against a legend, haha. (The funny thing is, he was the third Erving I’d played against— I faced both his sons, separately, while I was in high school).

Tim Hardaway being such an asshole on the Heat was tough for me because as a Warrior he was one of my favorite basketball players.

Remember NBA Inside Stuff? He had this whole “UTEP Two Step” thing going on. Not to mention Run TMC with Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond.

I grew up in South Florida and my parents were dyed in the wool New Yorkers with the thick accents and the whole bit. So we all hated all South Florida sports teams with a passion, but especially the Dolphins and Heat.

When I moved down here my dad used to get Dolphins tickets from his boss so I became a fan especially because of Dan Marino. I rooted for the Giants cause one of my first sports memories was watching them win the Super Bowl vs Denver so I figured it was OK to root for the Dolphins too since they were in the AFC. But the day Dan Marino retired I officially stopped rooting for them. Naturally I’ve hated the Heat ever since the moment Pat Riley joined them.

I’ve been down an NBA Inside Stuff rabbit hole….

Did y’all know Willow Bay married Bob Iger???

This Suns Nuggets game is a pretty good proof of why a modern NBA shot distribution matters. The Suns hit so many midrange shots but it didn’t matter because the Nuggets simply made 9 more threes and dominated inside on the rebounding.

I read an article talking about how the Suns actually have one of the worst shot charts in the NBA since acquiring KD.

I was quite in love with Willow Bay at the same point Inside the NBA was my favorite show.

Some interesting wiki about Jimmy Butler:

#While attending Marquette, Butler earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications.#

#Butler is a fan of country music and was featured in the music video of the country song “Light It Up” by Luke Bryan.#

#In the NBA Bubble, Butler opened his own coffee shop, which he operated out of his hotel room using his French press coffee brewer, charging $20 per cup.A year later, he officially launched his coffee brand, and planned to dedicate his time into the coffee roastery business post-retirement.#

At UNC, my alma mater, there was unsurprisingly a lot of good pickup to be had. One time I was playing pickup outside on the courts near the Dean Dome and Reggie Bullock and PJ Hairston walk up to us and ask if they can play. We told them yes but they had to be on separate teams. It basically turned into a game of one on one, though I defended Reggie two possessions: the first I forced him into a tough midrange shot that he clanked (I’m 5’10), so that was awesome. The second he just shot over me from 25 feet—nothing but net. He also rode my friend’s skateboard one time!
