2022-23 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Nets – Seven Nation Army?

The Knicks host the freefalling Brooklyn Nets tonight after probably their best win of the season while kicking the Celtics’ ass on Monday.

A win tonight, on top of being seven in a row, would also really solidify the #5 seed for the Knicks, which would be swell.

Let’s go, Knicks!

O/u is set at 300 points

Jalen might need to reevaluate how hard he wants to contest that

Durant 5/7 so far. Waiting to come back until your team plays Charlotte is pretty funny

Kill me

edit: Seems tentatively ok but Brunson holding his knee is a terrible image

Grimes expression said “I can’t believe that pass got through but I will take it.”

Mitch with a great block.

Hitting all our threes is an excellent strategy. I think Thibs is figuring the modern NBA out finally.

I’m not sure who is hotter tonight Grimes or Clyde?

Clyde peaking for the playoff run with that outfit.

The Nets are playing very well, but the Knicks are playing at an unreal level.

This feels alot like the 2013 team when they had those games where they were firing away and hitting everything, beautiful to watch.

Randle sets up a two man game with Hart notices Quick’s man turning his head and hits him for the three- nice!

I hope that missed Obi missed dunk doesn’t come back to haunt us.😉

we need someone to bring back Novak’s belt celebration

Our lineup versatility is pretty intriguing. We’re generally a half-court group, but we’ve clearly got a group of guys who are more than happy to make it a track meet.

Lately the refs are on our side, i guess that’s what good teams get.

Ok RJ ok

But then he follows up with a garbage layup. Looking better tonight though.

I am not sure Spencer Dinwiddie will ever recover from what Josh Hart just did to him

Hold up!

Everyone need to stop acting like Jalen Brunson is not the best point guard in the Eastern Conference right now.

Ok. Carry the hell on…

It’s nice to know that I can still have hard-ons even without the blue pills…

(Note to myself: send a thank you card to the Knicks and another to Jalen Brunson)

Set ourselves up for a real trap half.

That was an amazing shooting display

Calling it now: Tomorrow’s news thread will somehow be 90% about Bones Hyland.

They need to tighten up the defense in the second half because if the 3s stop dropping, the Nets can get right back into this. Thibs better give them hell at halftime over that slip shod D.

“Philly up 18 in Miami at halftime.”

Without Embiid

Boston up on the Cavs.

Don’t threaten me with a good time 🙂

“Mitch has leveled up. Looks bigger and stronger and quicker than ever”

It’s true. That first night back he had the kind of spring in his jump that he had as a rookie. I commented on it. But now he’s a much more experienced player and stronger. That’s a baaad man.

Rebecca has only grown and grown since her debut. Doing a really good job these days.

My wife’s comment….

Apparently Mitch did a bunch of cardio while he was out, which, of course, I don’t know what else he was going to do. But yeah, cardio has been an issue for him for a while.

I kind of feel a bit uneasy

And then Grimes connects.

Seriously though, they shouldn’t relax

we are pretty lucky to not have given up more of the lead. so many weird/dumb plays to start the half on both ends.

If I was a Nets fan I’d be pretty furious about Vaughn’s coaching. I mean, they’ve thrown in the biggest possible white flag on this season and Cam Thomas, who just scored 40 points 3 games in a row, can’t get in the game?

I don’t know if Johnson can defend but he can really shoot

Vaughn has an All NBA glower

Ok guys, it’s my fault if this game gets close because I’ve just tuned in.

I’ve been unsettlingly pro-Thibs lately so I will point out that there’s no reason Randle should’ve played the whole 3rd quarter. He seems pretty gassed and we have a pretty damn good backup.

A lot of these ads with kids (“my name is Nix!”) feel like child abuse

Get Randle the F out of there. He’s gassed and looks like RJ out there.

they’re trapping jalen but we need to work harder to reset him and not just pivot to randle and rj — this will happen in every playoff game

I don’t think Julius is gassed, just a bit unfocused

He still should have sat, though

“they’re trapping jalen but we need to work harder to reset him and not just pivot to randle and rj — this will happen in every playoff game”

Hopefully they learn something from this. Better now than later.

I love how Mike can’t contain his excitement about Josh Hart, he’s truly one of us.

>>>Josh hart seems like the kind of guy who could use an Ab roller correctly

Still laughing

Every time RJ touches the ball I expect something bad to happen. It takes a lot to lose me, but he’s done it.

I’ll just say it: past recent Knicks teams would have started terribly in the 3rd like it happened today, and then utterly collapse. This team is not those teams.

Cam Johnson hates the Knicks…

P.S. So getting him can be a smart move 😉

It also wasn’t that long ago that most of us were furious that we traded Willy Hernangomez

Ok, that makes me feel better about the current hagiographic moment

I kind of wonder if Cam is a no defense PF type. Someone fill me in. Not really sure what his deal is but he can really score.

Cam Johnson has such a smooth game, I’d love to watch him on the Knicks for sure.

“Nets just can’t get stops.” — when was the last time we heard that said about one of our opponents. hahaha.

jalen for three!! okay, that’s enough. please protect the players, Thibs.

I do think this Nets team will get better. They clearly don’t know how to play together at this point.

Claxton DFS and Mikal can play defense. I think that’s about it.

Thibs is fucking Rambo for this challenge. I love it

I don’t love the starters being in now, but I get what Thibs is doing – he clearly believes this is his finishing lineup and wants to get them reps.

Mitch
Randle
Hart
IQ
Brunson

Makes sense to me

While I’m afraid of Brunson taking unnecessary contact, you gotta love the mentality of the guy to just take a charge from a big guy with the game essentially over.

Just read this title:

“Durant lead the Suns to win in debut. KD combines with Booker for 60 points in return.”

Booker has 37…

Great win – it’s just a shame we have to do it with the gimmicky offense of scoring a lot of points

I am pretty sure Miles McBride played a G-League game earlier today and naturally put up 28/8/7

Cavs rally to save their pythag but they’re going to drop one to us barring a miracle

Knicks match their win total from last season with 18 games remaining.

Knicks match their win total from last season with 18 games remaining.

Crazy! – if Knicks go 13:5 – It’s a 50 win season.

Did anyone notice that little interaction between Thibs and Brunson towards the end of the game?

Pretty cool…

I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me
Love was out to get me
That’s the way it seemed
Disappointment haunted all of my dreams

yeah, i feel good…

Good times
These are the good times
Leave your cares behind
These are the good times

Our new state of mind

Since the lineup change on 12/4 the Knicks are now 27-14. That is half a season, 41 games.

They’re #1 in the NBA in that span in offensive rating, point differential, and net rating.

54-win pace since the lineup change. That is quite a long, sustained period of excellent play.

No Lakers win is a good thing 🙂

Is OKC tanking again (0-5 after the ASG, astute use of SGA)?
This must be the final season the let go by design, right?

Sooner or later they must use their trove of assets to do “something”, I don’t know, a play-in game, a run for the 6th seed, something for those poor fans…

Watching Thybulle thrive in Portland, is Doc just, like, the worst now?

I think the answers are yes and yes. They are really close to the 5th spot (Orlando). 10.5% chances to get Wemby and 21% chances to get Wemby or Scoot. They could possibly get to the play-in, but probably needing to win 2 games to be in the playoffs. I don’t think that justifies missing on a generational talent.
Just imagine if they get Wemby? They’ll have 2 great guards that can play 1 to 3 easily, in Giddey and Shai, and 2 great bigs that can play PF or C and stretch the floor in Chet and Wemby. At this point you only need a good defender, maybe throw some picks to get Simmons? And if all works as projected, that looks like a dinasty. Let’s hope they don’t get to this point, but i think it’s worth a try. And then next year they’ll switch to win now mode and go on with whatever prospect they were able to draft.

This is such a strange feeling. Where the empty gym season felt somewhat fluky, this feels real and solid. At the same time, the East as a whole is substantially better than in 20-21, and I wouldn’t be shocked at all if we get bounced in the first round. But at minimum, it’s nice to have become the proverbial Team No One Wants To Play.

They’re definitely playing better than the Empty Arena season. Brunson is the big difference. He gives them a sustainability that the Empty Arena team didn’t have. That team was way too reliant on Derrick Rose having a dead duck bounce. Brunson is reliable. That Celtics win was huge. It is great to kick the Nets and the Pellies’ asses when they’re spiraling, but the Celtics, that was a full-strength Celtics team and they just roundly defeated them. That was really, really impressive. The Celtics had no answer for Mitch and Brunson in that game (and IQ was amazing, as well).

Agreed, Alan. But in 2020-21 i think we got carried away because we made it to 4th and thought we should have won the 1st round. That is not a sound thinking because the 4th-5th series is obviously leveled. If we add to that at the time we only had Randle to take the responsibility to carry the team and now we have him and Brunson, it’ll be harder to game plan against us, you can’t always double and sometimes triple team Randle as Atlanta did back then. The rest of the cast probably would blowout hard the rest of the cast from 2020-21. Mitch and especially Quick are much improved from that season. The Hart brothers are great over Noel/Burks and Grimes is better than Bullock if he don’t regress in the playoffs. Unfortunately RJ and Obi are the same as back then. But yeah, this is a much better team and if we lose in 6 at the very worst and we put up a fight in all of the games and be in the game till the end, i’ll be happy with this season.

but the Celtics, that was a full-strength Celtics team and they just roundly defeated them. That was really, really impressive. The Celtics had no answer for Mitch and Brunson in that game (and IQ was amazing, as well).

I wouldn’t say full strength as the Celts were missing Jaylen Brown, but it was a very impressive win as they didn’t stand a chance all game. And it was very good to see Mitch dominating RWIII, one more C from the list that is (was?) ahead of Mitch to the Mitch doubters. After the max Cs of the league, i think Mitch is right there and can go against any of them and win the battle (and sometimes lose, of course). And this is big, no pun intended, because a lot of our defense relies on the C play. But for God sake, learn how to make some FTs, young man.

This is such an unfamiliar feeling, to wake up in a morning where the Knicks are legitimately good for the first time in my adult life.

It’s kind of messed up really but I am pretty happy about it.

Also, yes, Doc is the worst
