It continues to be such an unsettling situation as training camp looms. OTOH, in a way, we’re exactly where I hoped we would be. I really wanted the FO to determine the value of what we actually have before making any moves. There’s risk in that…sure, it’s possible that RJ, Mitch, IQ, Obi, and Grimes wil never be more valuable than they were this off-season. But I wanted to find out who they really were here , not somewhere else. I was always on the side of the team taking that risk.

And although the team has done some strange things on draft nights, I have been looking forward to the 2023 draft for a while, and am glad that we still have the picks.

So the question becomes, “Is there way to move RJ back to SG to see if his strength advantage there translates into better play?”

i’m pro experimenting but i doubt this as a fruitful lever. these days, initial wing matchups are very low consequence unless the wing is a superstar. most of rj’s efficient shots, even in a good case for him, are going to come from beating the first level on dho, pnr or back cuts anyway. his touch is just never going to be good enough to be the very rare wing who can iso efficiently in mid range, unless the defender is trey burke.

to date the numbers bear this out. last year rj had similar — actually better — ppp and usage success against bigger wings like miles bridges or torrey craigs than he did against the greyson allens and gary trents of the world.

honestly, i don’t fully believe the numbers in the sense that teams compensate for matchups and rj is still making poor decisions — i think in the long he does do slightly better against the mice in the hice (sic). i just don’t think trying to fine tune the initial wing matchup is going to matter either to rj’s development or team success. try it sure, but give up an asset to allow for it? no way.

I’m just trying to figure out who the mice in the hice are, whether sic or not.

It now is close enough that I am in looking forward to training camp mode. Other than the opening night Celtics win, the best part of last season was the final games when we got a look at the young guys’ potential and were pleasantly surprised. Yes the roster is built for a consolidation trade and yes it has too many individuals of similar talent level (at least up to what we have seen) but that is what makes training camp/preseason so intriguing this year. It will also test Thibs ability more than any other time as Knick HC.

The bulls win on the road at the start of the season was fun. It felt like the old eastern conference days were back. Then we fell apart.

RJ’s buzzer beater at home against the Celtics was fun too.

i don’t particularly enjoy watching my team lose…not rushing to tune in to any yankees games, or not much looking forward to see the giants play…

i think the knicks have a good chance to win more games than they lose this season…

    i’ll take that happily…

maybe i’m just selling myself a story…it has been a whole lot of years where i’m constantly thinking – if only we had a starting point guard…

well, we got one now, and probably one of the best backup point guards in the league…it feels like the better part of the last couple of seasons that we’ve had a lot of trouble starting off the first and third quarters…

    i’m hoping/expecting that to change this year…

Just a heads up to Mike K or whomever…

I was unable to post the last couple days. Same thing that happened to Z-Man, I presume.

Only fix seems to be to start a new account.

Anyway, this line from Alan yesterday stood out to me:

I thought the goal was to free up more time on the wing for our younger players, not to add yet another guy who will take minutes away from Grimes and company.

I am pretty sure that is just our goal, not the organization’s. Leon put all the kids in trade talks this summer. He’s not committed to any of them.

Trading one of our kids or picks for a veteran who can add 2 marginal wins this year is absolutely the M.O. of this team.

At this point in his career RJ can score at the rim or from catch & shoot 3s. I would consider playing him at the 4 sometimes (this is yet another reason to get rid of Julius). RJ is really strong and a good rebounder he could probably hold his own against a lot of matchups

Trading one of our kids or picks for a veteran who can add 2 marginal wins this year is absolutely the M.O. of this team.

Absolutely is a strong word when absolutely nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing, has happened to support this. When your predicted trade happens I will absolutely admit I was wrong.

Bernie were you in a coma when we acquired Derrick Rose, Alec Burks, Evan Fournier, Kemba Walker, Nerlens Noel, etc?

Other than DRose, which cost a pick, exactly which picks or kids were shed while I was in a coma for the others?

howdy hubie, good to see you back, yeah, seems the site update caught up to a bunch of us and we needed to start second accounts…

not sure when you hit LA, gonna pick up some tix for a PMJ show Nov 12 at the Ace Hotel…

I haven’t read any reviews of their show, I’m anticipating it to be interesting though…

I have been looking forward to the 2023 draft for a while, and am glad that we still have the picks.

All the 2023 picks Leon acquired were traded to the Hornets to dump Kemba Walker.

We still have our 1st and the Mavs pick, at least.

not sure when you hit LA, gonna pick up some tix for a PMJ show Nov 12 at the Ace Hotel…

I don’t know what the hell a PMJ show is (is JK47 in it?) but I will be there with bells on. Bells, I say, Geo. Fucking bells.

    awwwwwwww, right on hubie 🙂

click on my name thing…it’s that kind of stuff…the Ace is a cool looking old theatre…i’m almost tempted to dress in some kind of 20’s/30’s garb…

we are all set with seats senor…can’t wait…

If there was a hall of fame of fashion in sports, Clyde not only would be there, he’d be the GOAT! 🙂

Geo, yeah yesterday i was up late, the Knicks have trained me well with games at 12AM and 1AM, or even later in the night when the game is out west.
I feel the same, glad to know you’re doing ok, and all is good with the family. And even better that you’re being able to manage the anxiety problem. I have a friend that suffers from agoraphobia and in the 90s he had a lot of crisis, so i can relate to how you’re feeling. The good news is that my friend learned how to control it and for a little more than 20 years he’s doing well.
About sports and music, i think i lost the habit of doing it, had a season ticket for my other team (FCPorto) for like 35 years or something like that, but at some point i was too busy and was missing more games than the ones i was there. Now i don’t have the season ticket and go 2 or 3 times each year. The same with music, but i’m starting to check what’s happening so maybe i’ll get back to it soon. Your stories about what you’re going to see help too. 😉 I think the pandemic made a shift on my interests, as we live in the mountains near Porto and there was nothing to do, me and lady Cyber started to go hiking. It was perfect, just get out the door, go straight to the mountains and explore. And now we do it every weekend, some 6 to 8 miles with very steep stretches, that is my favorite part, at least when we’re going up. I’m not a big fan of going downhill on a very steep incline.

if ya wanna blame someone for some of these disjointed tangents, blame jowles – he did it…
speaking of which, I hope all is well for you out there oh honorable one…

Yeah, where is Jowles? I hope he’s ok. Remember you’re not alone, Jowles, we’re here for ya. 😉
And i miss the telegraphic comments that had the power to take down theories built with a lot of words, just like that. 🙂

Yes, Jowles. You are loved. And how about this week for Alcaraz?! Your particular gloss on that is much needed.

***I, very reluctantly, must admit that I love Jowles too. Well, not really. But yeah.***

But are you gonna hit up Hubert at his fake kb email?

Jawles may be totally ignorant on bball like many of the regulars here but he’s a good kid! We need him back!

For a second there I thought Bob was back.
