2020-21 Game Thread: Knicks @ Suns – Time To Ensure a Road Trip Split!

The Knicks head to Phoenix, where the Hawks kicked the Suns’ ass, so the Knicks really need to do the same. A win here guarantees at least a 3-3 road trip, which would pretty much assure them of avoiding the play-in game (they already have really good odds of avoiding the play-in game).

Come on, Derrick Rose, pretend that it’s Memphis!

Let’s go, assure at least a 3-3 road trip, Knicks!

I was looking forward to tonight’s game but with such a depleted bench not that excited anymore.

Celtics with the big loss!
I hate late games. I’m DVRing this in case (for when) I nod off.

We are now 3 ahead in the loss column to the Celts. Our magic number with them is now 4. Although it’s tricky with that last game deciding the tiebreaker…

We won lots of games without Burks and with IQ playing poorly, so I think we can still pull this one out if the rest of the team steps up.

That Heat Celtics 2 game series on Sunday and Tuesday gonna be super interesting.

Neither Randle nor Barrett had good games vs. PHX last time, they both have to step up.

My hope is that the Celts lose both, but no matter what happens it helps us.

Last game against Phoenix, Thibs had Payton pick up Chris Paul from 3/4 court to try to tire Paul out down the stretch. That plan did not work, as Paul was fresh enough to dominate the last 2 minutes.

We ain’t winning this one if we don’t actually get any shots off.

And they’re all pretty much unforced errors…

Letting Ayton alone under the basket don’t seem like a good idea

The part of Teen Wolf will be played by Julius Randle tonight. Personally, I want to see the footage of him surfing on top of the Howard’s Hardware van.

Well, at least in this disaster of a 1st quarter Randle has shown up, unlike the Denver game.

It does feel that every shot the Suns take is either a layup or an open 3, and every shot we take is something contested or a Randle typical attempt, and that is not a good sign…

Who’s playing Chubby?

I’m at work and can’t watch, but from the box score, Randle is doing most of the scoring. At least he’s not shut down the way he was against Denver

I can’t stay up for this even if we were winning …

What an awful challenge. What a moron.

Is is surprising that the Knicks thrive when Rose is running the point?

Rose once again changing the game, now we’re the ones getting the quality shots!

I’ve got a fever and the only prescription is more Physical Play!

Kevin Knox is playing the part of Chubby tonight. It is now an ironic nickname. The similarity is in the usefulness on the court.

So here’s a question for the panel: come playoff time, should Thibs start Rose? He’s so good off the bench, but Payton is so bad and gets us off to these horrid starts

Thoughts?

Dumb double. I don’t need to take it out of bookers hands just yet. Especially giving up the easy corner 3

He may not start, but he’s playing way more than 25 minutes per game.

Payton should be kidnapped mystically during the halftime and sent to China

I’m really not sure. Was Peyton guarding Paul and Vice versa? That would be a reason for a bad start on his part.

Obi had Paul on him in the post and immediately passed. Inexcusable

I guess part of what is allowing Rose to be so good is that he’s not playing super heavy minutes, so unfortunately Elfrid is a bit of a necessary evil… maybe Vildoza could help, if he even plays? Payton just sucks the life out of the offense so much it hurts.

Booker is 1-5, just let him shoot instead of fucking biting on every single pump fake, he’s clearly trying to get to the line

Great ending to the half you can’t ask for much more from our guys

If we can get this win, our odds of avoiding the play in will be like 90%

First few minutes of 3rd quarter will be critical , Payton needs to not suck ass

It won’t be easy but it’s doable
Best Conditioning gets the W

Couldn’t have asked for a better 1st half but they really need to tighten up the perimeter defense if they’re gonna somehow win this game.

Mets with a gritty win, featuring a Lindor game-tying HR and some bearded scrub with a walk-off swinging bunt.

Payton should be playing with Nanjing Monkey Kings tomorrow if we want to win this one!

I don’t think letting the Suns walk into open 3’s is a good defensive strategy.

So much for the tightening perimeter defense, allowed back to back wide open 3pters.

That was the worst sequence of the year.

What the actual fuck was that, holy shit

This one has loss written all over it

Only down 2 going into the 4th quarter but sure feels like this game is over.

Well, it was the third quarter. You knew it wasn’t going to end well. They just saved the giant steaming dump until the final second.

So predictable. Just annoying constant mistakes on both ends.

for whatever reason… the refs just don’t like rj…

If we lose, this is the RJ lost us the game game. He’s played like he’s in middle school JV. He doesn’t deserve a call going his way.

Any Suns player takes 1 dribble inside the 3pt line and the entire freaking team collapses into the paint and they’re just giving up a shit ton of open 3pters I don’t get it.

Didn’t watch the game, but reading the game thread i see that we hanged in there until the 4th quarter. Gotta address this trend to have awful 4th quarters, and i think i even prefer our previous trend of having awful 3rd quarters, because that way we still had a quarter to make up for it.

But this one is behind us, and we’re still 4th, so not all is bad. 😉 Now let’s try to sweep the LA teams. 🙂

I went to bed at the end of the 3rd quarter and seems like I missed quite a collapse

Remaining schedule of the teams involved:

NYK (37-30) – @LAC, @LAL, SAS, CHA, BOS;
ATL (37-31) – WAS, WAS, ORL, HOU;
MIA (36-31) – @BOS, @BOS, PHI, @MIL, @DET;
BOS (35-32) – MIA, MIA, @CLE, @MIN, @NYK;

It’s hard to tell what is the best outcome in the MIA-BOS matchups, because we’re still aiming for the 4th/5th game with ATL. For the Top6 goal it’s easy, it’s best that the team farther behind (BOS) loses both, which would (probably) put the Celtics in the play-in (a plus :P) getting the chance to witness the “Terry Rozier revenge game” in the 7th/8th play-in game (another plus). ;D

Kind of curious to know what RJ did at the end of the third or start of the fourth, sounds like he murdered someone…

We fought valiantly but they had more firepower at the end of the day. The difference was all of the threes by Mikal, Crowder and Payne. Hell, even Carter threw one in from 30 feet away as time ran out with his eyes closed. We definitely missed IQ and Burks tonight.

Pretty gaudy line from Ayton too. 26 and 15 on 17 t-shots with no turnovers. And Paul.

I watched This is a Robbery with my wife and then went to sleep. Apparently this game was not (a robbery.) Decent doc series fwiw but an absolute must watch for all connoisseurs of Boston accents.

I know we couldn’t have ended up with Luka and Bridges but I have been pretty irritated lately about what might have been.

Ayton definitely benefited from CP3. He’s not as good as his line indicated. And, yes, I’m kind of glad that Taj sent CP3 that little love tap near the end of the game.

end of third. booker rebound. starts out even with rj and pushes. rj takes a weird angle and lets him go. booker misses layup. rj stands aimlessly while craig comes from half court and puts in the rebound. that was the good part. next was this:
