2020-21 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Sixers

After playing the 76ers very tight in their last game in Philadelphia, the Knicks are lucky that the Sixers are on the second night of a back-to-back and playing without Seth Curry (who burned the Knicks last game) and, of course, their MVP candidate, Joel Embiid.

The Knicks, meanwhile, get Immanuel Quickley and Mitchell Robinson back tonight, so this is a perfect opportunity for the Knicks to avenge that close loss to the Sixers with a big win that would get the Knicks over .500.

They can do it!

Let’s go, get over .500, Knicks!

Vincent : Have you ever given a foot massage?

Jules : [scoffs]  Don’t be tellin’ me about foot massages. I’m the foot fuckin’ master.

Vincent : Given a lot of ’em?

Jules : Shit yeah. I got my technique down and everything, I don’t be ticklin’ or nothin’.

Vincent : Would you give a guy a foot massage?

[Jules gives Vincent a long look, realizing he’s been set up]

Jules : Fuck you.

Vincent : You give them a lot?

Jules : Fuck you.

Vincent : You know, I’m getting kinda tired. I could use a foot massage myself.

Jules : Man, you best back off, I’m gittin’ a little pissed here.

Knick Fan in Celtic Land isn’t just a podiatrist – he’s the foot fuckin’ master…

sorry for being weird, just some random shit floating around upstairs…

proceed with normalcy…hope all is well for ya KFICL…

@IanBegley
Immanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Reggie Bullock, Julius Randle and Nerlens Noel are starting tonight vs. PHI, Knicks say.

Z-man:
My bracket took a beating today…

but you did assuage the fears of laker fans with your lebron diagnosis…

lol it was just a prediction…and if it’s in line with my bracket predictions, he’s done for the year…

Z-man: lol it was just a prediction…and if it’s in line with my bracket predictions, he’s done for the year…

i think on ESPN out of the 14 million or something brackets…by last night…only 140 or so were still perfect…wonder what that will be by end of the day today…

DudesTown:
With Mitch back, I wonder if Taj will get some of Obi’s minutes as the backup PF to Randle.

One between Toppin and Knox will be glued to the bench, Taj isn’t going away…

Let’s go Knicks!

While waiting for our game I’m watching Cavs-Raptors
and I just realized that both Cavs’ broadcasters are former Clyde’s teammates: former number one pick Austin Carr (who averaged 38 ppg at Notre Dame from ‘69 to ‘71) and former Knicks sharpshooter Campy Russell.

This is the sloppiest I’ve seen the Knicks in a while. We could be leading by 8…

IQ looked like he walked away from a well-deserved scolding by Thibs

I had a distressing thought watching houston play earlier, after just one year of sucking- they are most likely picking up a franchise player during the next draft…

nba fan life’s not fair…

RJ is too slow with the release of 3P, the first game Simmons blocked him 2 times. One already today. Something for him to work on, clearly.

I love the defense the Knicks play but sometimes they over help way too early on drives and give up needless open looks for 3.

Who was telling me the other day that fouling Frank on the 3P was legal because the ball already had left his hands? Now the referee whistled a different version of the call.

Very bad first, nobody’s able to hit a shot.
Defense still mostly good but we need pointzzz ASAP.

Mitch morphing into Chris Dudley at the FT line is not a positive development.

Philly’s D is strong but not ideal
Mitch is having fun in the paint
Feed Mitch

Man, if i see another Mitch shooting 3Ps video i’ll get mad, he needs to practice FTs

That’s what I was missing. I do love me some Butter Stumps, but Mitch has actual hands he can dunk with.

They’re killing us with blocks from behind, I counted four already, they’re very good at recovering on D.

Woah, just read a report saying LaMelo might have a fractured wrist. Sorry Z-Man.

BigBlueAL:
Woah, just read a report saying LaMelo might have a fractured wrist.Sorry Z-Man.

Well he probably has ROY locked in already…

At this point Knicks could lose rest of their games and still make the playoffs.

5 Knicks with more than 17 assists in one game, since 1980? Mark Jackson, Starbury. Who else?

This is a very important game and they’re playing like a rec game at the YMCA…

Knicks playing just tremendous defense. But they can’t get a shot — it’s not even making them, they can’t get them off due to blocks and passes intercepted.

I guess I have to give credit to Philly for great defense themselves, but damn we’re sloppy.

Duhon, Richardson… I torn about the fifth… Charlie Ward?

Ron Harper’s son playing for Rutgers

I always liked his dad as a player, solid as hell on both ends

It takes a couple of Thibs’ flaming timeouts but maybe they’re finally awake.

Good defense from both teams, It’s going to be a dog fight…

I was hoping to cut the Sixers lead to single digits at the half, but cut it to a single point is even better 😀

Sixers with 12 fouls and Knicks with 6 in the 1st.
If we could also made the FTs the game would be much easier..

BigBlueAL:
Heartbreaking loss for Rutgers.

Yeah, that sucked. Why was the Rutgers coach running clock? They totally got back on their heels.

Just for Z-Man I won’t call this potentially the worst or most devastating loss of the season but this would be a very annoying loss.

lol u got me there!

Mitch is not quite in rhythm yet… Three tips that didn’t quite roll in

That was a really nice pass from Howard. The career that guy could have had if he weren’t a douche

What happened to Mitch?

Turned his ankle. Didn’t look too bad.

Clyde has never wanted anything as much as he wanted that RJ 3

His homerism is so low-key you have to love it

d-mar:
Why the hell didn’t Burks pass to Randle there???

he never passes on the break and he rarely converts…h

1) I’m angry that the plan was to double Harris with Barrett on him one on one. 2) pass the rock Burks! Knicks cannot execute for SHIT down the stretch

It’s going to be hard to get an open three here. I’d take it right to the hoop and then try to foul Simmons

BigBlueAL:
The 4 games this week have been excruciating to watch.

Squandering so many opportunities. Very poor execution against better defense. I get it. But still poor

burks has to be the worst fast break guard in the league…he cannot ever make a good decision…too bad as that was a nice steal…

Lotta time on the clock, but this is less than optimal

These refs are comically bad, how the hell did they not see that go off Howard?

I don’t understand why they don’t have a backup ref when one gets pulled for Covid

Ok. Here’s my play. Quickley pump fakes from three, makes the shot and gets fouled for the win.

Lotta cheering from people who want the Knicks to lose lol

Can’t criticize Randle for that final shot but looked like he could’ve taken a couple of more dribbles but who cares gladly take OT!

d-mar:
So funny how Clyde has been all over Harris’ ass tonight.

Well, he did miss two clutch free throw attempts at the end there.

One underrated aspect of this team is how switchable they are – almost all 5 positions

RJ Barrett’s ability to hit guys right in the hands is so valuable. It’s the difference between a made 3PA and a shooter being forced off the line.

Yeah sorry Z-Man but this would be the new most devastating loss of the season…

Even if we can’t go to the playoffs, we’re getting a lot of game 7 during the season. Very entertaining. 🙂

I was trash talking a friend about Danny Green being washed up at the beginning of this game. For which I apologize.

A fucking loose ball foul with :5 seconds to go?!?! Never seen that in my life

that’s an awful call but you can’t overturn that bc it’s technically accurate

damn. really wish he’d have looked for contact there bc they owed us a makeup call.

BigBlueAL:
At least the Knicks are a game closer to finishing in the lottery.

must have been a tough night for the One True Knicks Fan, what with you being the only person on the blog rooting for the knicks to win.

Painful loss, really heavy in the standings and it ended on one of the most shit call I’ve ever seen.

They were on back to back and we were unable to take advantage.

Very good defense but we missed too many close shots and made a terrible show from the line (it’s becoming an annoying tradition).

Can’t question the effort after a sleepy start, but we are who we are, a team with a lot of heart, well coached, but with very limited talent.

You must give it to Philly, Rivers is really coaching them well, they’re ferocious on defense.

We had more emotions in the last four games than in the last seven season, but I’m mad for this loss…

With 5 seconds left you literally have to throw a player to the ground to get a loose ball foul call. Such horseshit

DudesTown: How can they refuse to accept a challenge there?

I don’t think they refused it, they seemed to be saying they didn’t get the request to be a challenge

Hubert: must have been a tough night for the One True Knicks Fan, what with you being the only person on the blog rooting for the knicks tonight and all.

Must be tough being the only asshole on this blog.

Max: Can’t question the effort after a sleepy start, but we are who we are, a team with a lot of heart, well coached, but with very limited talent.

I don’t think we have very limited talent, let’s not forget we were playing the number 1 team in the east.

Well you can’t use your timeout there if you’re Thibs. I mean there is literally no point to use it there because he cost the team the chance to advance the ball.

Must be tough being the only asshole on this blog.

Hey now there are plenty of assholes on this blog

That’s what Hahn just said. Frustrating but true. The call shouldn’t have been made at all, but once it was we were fcked.

This one hurts. Love this team, though. Julius almost made it… ouch

cybersoze: I don’t think we have very limited talent, let’s not forget we were playing the number 1 team in the east.

Let’s not forget that they were without their MVP candidate and their best shooter, on the road and on the second night of a back to back…

Do you really think that we’re a talented team?

I love this team because they never quit, but talent is another matter….

DRed: Hey now there are plenty of assholes on this blog

Touche. Annoying, frustrating loss tonight but hopefully they’ll bounce back on Tuesday. They’ve been a resilient group this season so I’m expecting a good performance vs the Wizards.

I expect the same but the Wizards have been frisky lately,
we’ll better come in prepared and focused,
a bad start as tonight and so many missed FTs aren’t going to cut it,
we need to be always at 100% to win games.

Max: Do you really think that we’re a talented team?

I questioned the “very limited” tag, just that. We’re not the most talented, that’s for sure, but i think we might be middle of the pack, because now we have all star play from Randle, a much improved RJ, and Quick has been a surprise.

Yeah would be surprised if they sweep the back to back set but they need to take care of these winnable games before the brutal stretch to end the season.

Z-man: I’ll throw my lot in with the BBAs of the blog…

don’t worry, you were being counted with the mental midgets who can’t read a sentence whether you threw your lot in with them or not.

Z-man: I’ll throw my lot in with the BBAs of the blog…

Ha, I got your back on this one. I’ve been commenting on this blog since the day Isiah was officially fired as head coach and have always stayed away from the name calling and feuds. Plus I usually only have time to comment on the weekends and at night during game threads so I mostly wind up just reading the threads with the day long arguments but I’m down for a little shit talking once in awhile as long as it doesn’t hijack the thread.

I am though thinking about changing my name to One True Knicks Fan!

I mentioned it before, but the NBA is a multi billion dollar industry, how do you not have a backup ref available for every game? There are states where every high school game gets 3 refs, you cannot ref an NBA game with 2.

d-mar: I mentioned it before, but the NBA is a multi billion dollar industry, how do you not have a backup ref available for every game? There are states where every high school game gets 3 refs, you cannot ref an NBA game with 2.

Yeah, it doesn’t make sense to not have a backup ref in these times of covid

Exactly, you named three players on a 17 men roster, you could add Mitch if you want, but that for me is the definition of “limited”
(we have other decent players but mainly they could be rotation players on a good team, not starters, tonight we basically didn’t play IQ, Frank or Toppin after the third quarter, Gibson and Knox never leave the bench, with all due respect we relied on Burks, Noel and Bullock, not the most coveted players in the league).

Man how I’m pissed for this loss! 🙂

Hubert: don’t worry, you were being counted with the mental midgets who can’t read a sentence whether you threw your lot in with them or not.

Awww, poor thing, were you misrepresented again?

seems like a recurrent theme…the NBA referees have been really lousy this year…seems like every third or fourth game they blow a pivotal call that dictates the outcome…please bring back Tim Donaghy…

Well, that sucked, but a positive beyond the defense – which is usually really strong – was good RJ has slowed the game down. Patience stone the hoop, and that one absolutely beautiful fadeaway…. It feels like he’s reached that next level.

Sixer are going to be a tough out if Embiid is healthy. Doc has them fired up.

toppin is the elephant in the room..he has been reduced to worse than knox level rookie season…it will be interesting to see if Thibs puts him on ice…I mean Knox could back up Randle better right now…at least the other team would have to, ahem…respect his outside shot…

just finished watching Captain Fantastic and then The Ballad of Buster Scruggs…

captain fantastic was alright, a little preachy at times…

I’ve actually seen the ballad of buster scruggs before – I forgot just how freaking grim the movie is…great acting, I treating at times, but if anyone can tell me “the point” of that movie, I’ll give ya a dollar…

If we would have had Derrick Rose available, I think we’d have at least 2 more wins right now. Fire away.

Z-man:

Yes, Doc’s doing a very good job, tonight despite missing Embiid and Curry they played 10 guys 15 minutes or more and everyone did something to help the team.

Still not getting the Cade love

He’s one of the best freshmen in the country, he’s young and he’s a 6’8″ playmaking wing who can shoot.

Kevin Pelton just tweeted:

As great as Cade Cunningham has been from 3-point range as a freshman (40%), his 47% shooting inside the arc is on the low side for an NBA-bound guard. We’re seeing that issue tonight as Cunningham is 2-of-6 on 2-point attempts.

I think Cade is good but by the standards of one and done types he seems pretty pedestrian. I don’t know if he is tired or what tonight but I don’t see that much burst out of him. He can shoot but he doesn’t seem like a great athlete to me.

He did make a great play with the steal and three but he also got stuffed pretty embarrassingly on a mid range jump shot.

I don’t know. I have watched him 5-6 times this season and haven’t been that impressed. Will be a good pro but not a franchise saver.

In the not overrated department, Luka scorching hot to the touch tonight.

cade’s been getting slowed by a bunch of nobodies pretty consisently… it’s all floaters and hook shots and pull ups….

he’s absolutely good… it’s just it’s a bit much for a guy who’s supposed to be consensus #1 type.. if you look at him vs d’angelo russell’s #s they are strikingly similar… and i think they’re going to have similar issues in the pro’s… namely getting to the hoop and finishing which is going to impact cade’s overall efficiency…

dlo was a solid prospect in a decent draft and he went right behind KAT but ahead of some soso/probably overrated draftees… dlo would absolutely not be consensus #1 in this draft and there’s a lot more quality at the top in this one…

this draft reminds me of the ayton draft and luka… not that suggs or even green or mobley are as good as luka but i think it’s clear that there is someone else that should be #1 and it’s not cade….

My impression for a longtime has been that Cade was going to fall a bit. Haven’t followed it closely, may not now that we’re not high lottery bound, but with Suggs & Mobley right there it doesn’t make sense for Cade to take the #1 spot with his ?’s a little more obvious than the others.

And you’re number one is ???

He had Jalen Suggs #1 before March Madness.
