Wow, what a get by the Knicks!
Here is the list of representatives that the Knicks have had over the years for the Draft Lottery. Lots of uninspired choices over the years (and some really good ones, like Walt Frazier in 2017 and Reggie Jackson joining Houston in 2009)…
Dave DeBusschere (1985)
Scott Stirling (1986)
Scott Layden (2002)
Allan Houston (2003)
John Starks (2005)
Mike D’Antoni (2008)
Allan Houston and Reggie Jackson (2009)
Steve Mills (2015)
Walt Frazier (2017)
Scott Perry (2018)
So this is a big get for the Knicks.
It obviously doesn’t really matter, but it’s still nice!
What I don’t get is that the NBA wouldn’t let the Knicks have Spike Lee represent them back in 2009, because he didn’t work for the Knicks, but…huh? Don’t we see the kids of owners all the time? It must be that they changed that rule. Anyhow, good news either way.

Hopefully having Pat Ewing represent us in the lottery means we have a similar outcome as 1985. I won’t let go of the Kyrie/KD/Zion/Mitch dream until they pry it from my hands.
According Forbes, Mitchell Robinson is currently making $22M less than his on court value:
Good times are ahead, people!
Maybe we should have offered the Lakers a HC trade: Walton for Fiz…
🙂
I’ve always felt like the Knicks downfall was some kind of curse/karma for how they disssed Patrick Ewing for years after they traded him and through his retirement/coaching career… Maybe… MAYBE this is the beginning of the end of that curse.
This is my favorite Knicks move all year, aside from Mitch’s amazing play vs. his ridiculously team friendly contract.
philly is letting russell shoot. what odds do i get on d lo missing more shots in this series than mitch did this year?
embiid with an injured knee looks suspiciously like cousins
Why did they even try to play Embiid? This isn’t the finals
Boban has been a pretty big asset for the Sixers this game
embiid is the only sixer who seems to know that levert does not want to finish with his left
not quite sure exactly when this may have happened, but, I don,’t really despise or even dismiss the nets as I once did…
It feels like every weakness the 76ers have is coming out in this game. Embiid is less than 100%, Simmons can’t shoot, and the bench is weak. At least they have Butler.
I’m sure they’ll play better than this next game but this will be an ugly loss unless they come back late.
Why did they take Boban out?
Edit: Is Jared Dudley the most “pick-up game at the Y” looking player in the league? I think he beats out Felton.
I might be the only Knicks fan who didn’t have an issue with how Patrick was treated at the tail end of his NBA career. He was paid handsomely well and kept along on the team as a 1st option for years well after his career prime. They even fired Don Nelson for trying to change the offense away from one where Patrick dominated the ball and put Van Gundy in his stead.
Nets came out drawing blood. Good for them. I liked to see well coached teams beat star-studded ones.
The Nets played well and the 76ers can’t possibly play worse (unless Embiid can’t play in game 2). If Embiid is OK, the 76ers should win game 2 easily.
i am taking toronto to win it all. my theory is that kawhi dogged it on defense this year and gasol can find an extra old man gear so they are even better than they’ve looked.
I bet a couple of teams to beat the Warriors. Toronto is one of them. I don’t necessarily expect them to, but the value seemed right.
call me crazy, but – if the lakers add lue, figure out a way to seal the deal on AD, maybe they get butler, keep rondo for less, add a couple of shooters…who knows…
I think the Lakers are better off hoping that Ball gets healthy and starts putting it all together rather than worrying about Rondo. They took a perfectly good young team and screwed it up by moving a few of them and trying to win quicker with BAD players.
is that fuchsia tiger is wearing?
haven’t watched golf for a while…tiger looks in pretty good shape for an old guy with a bad back…
Lonzo Ball is not a good fit with LeBron. Lonzo needs the ball in his hands.
Lonzo doesn’t seem like a potential star player to me, he seems like he has a hard ceiling because of his ineffective shot. The form is bad and the results are bad. He’s maybe like a Ricky Rubio type at his peak?
scratch that, it’s like a light lavendar…
That’s the conventional wisdom. I fully understand it.
I’m wondering if at this stage Lebron might be better off allowing someone else to handle the ball more so he can become more of a secondary playmaker that scores, rebounds and tries to defend a little again.
Ball is a good passer. He needs to improve his shot and get healthy.
Sure, James will fill up the stat sheet less, but if Ball is running the offense adequately and getting James the ball in good spots, James will still score and make plays. He’ll just be relieved of some of the burden.
The idea is not to maximize James’ stats. The idea is get the most out of the team. As it is now, if James is the “point forward” you often have another player at PG doing very little unless he’s a killer shooter and defender.
This Orlando team is kind of scrappy. They played good ball down the stretch of the season, but I didn’t think they’d be ready for this. Some of their young payers are starting to figure it out. Maybe this series won’t be a blowout.
Tall, gifted pass-first PG who plays great defense and can’t shoot? Sounds about right.
Ah yes, always want to pay the greatest forward of all time like $38M a year to be a secondary playmaker in his mid-thirties. If this is the plan out of the hellhole that the Lakers have put themselves in, they’re fucked for the duration of the contract.
four years coming into 18-19 Ibaka was over 38% from three on heavy volume. then he shot 29% this year and looks scared to even try today.
If we keep seeing playoffs Kyle Lowry, Toronto ain’t going anywhere
80,000 land in your space three point fouls this year and mcw literally gets punched in the face play on
I appear to have underestimated the Magic.
I’m getting the feeling these playoffs are going to be freaking awesome!
Wow!
pretty damn good game. chauncey is not good at this.
They’ll be fine.
They have Leonard, Siakam, and Gasol (as well as Green) now when Lowery goes into his customary coma. As long as Lowery defends and makes plays they’ll be OK, but it would help if he’s not this much of a zero as a scorer.
on jan 30, orlando was 20-31 and 11th in the east
Well, it appears I missed a pretty crazy afternoon of basketball. Holy cow!!!!
Too bad the warriors are on next
Love me some Gallo.
BTW, this was one of my favorite things about Laker madness. Don’t think Jerry West is going back there.

the clippers are starting two non top ten rookies, a third year second rounder with 2059 nba minutes, a $5m veteran and a veteran who has never made an all star team.
Where would Montrezl Harrell rank amongst Knicks of the last 25 years?
Draymond seems ready for the playoffs.
Looks like Draymond is trying to fuck up Jowles’ work pool
Btw, can we talk about Ed Davis? I know it’s incredibly easy to find a guy who rebounds and scores efficiently, defends, and rebounds. These guys are a dime a dozen and all essentially the same.
But HOLY SHIT!
weird fact. this year lebron and lou williams became the only 30 somethings ever to avg 27 and 7 per 36.
I mean, we all have the Warriors in the Finals and I’m the only one who didn’t take them to win it all, so if they get bounced in the first round, I’m happy
Been on that Ed Davis train for awhile now, my friend
Now paying dividends (in social capital on a niche sports blog that is read by like 40 people a day)
Ah yes, always want to pay the greatest forward of all time like $38M a year to be a secondary playmaker in his mid-thirties.
Last season, LeBron and the Cavs needed some atrocious refereeing to get past Oladipo and the Pacers, got stretched to seven games by a Boston team whose best players were Al Horford and a 20-year-old rookie, then got manhandled by the Warriors. Add in LeBron deciding to just stop playing defense a few years ago and the metaphysical certainty that he will not be the first athlete to beat Father Time, and the reality is that Magic and Co. were absolutely right.
The idea that you can compete for a title by surrounding LeBron with shooters has clearly passed its sell-buy date. If LeBron really wants to win a title in LA, he’s going to have to make the same sacrifices for the team that Bosh and Love made for him.
Mike
it’s quality, not quantity, which is the significant factor here 🙂
i hope mike miller doesn’t turn in to another kenny atkinson situation…
This Spurs team is such a great weird oddball team. On paper they should stink. This is a team with an offense built around Lamarcus Aldridge, Demar Derozan and Rudy Gay. They shoot fewer threes than any team in the league. Somehow it’s the #7 offense in the NBA.
I don’t know how Popovich got that team to win 48 games but it’s a very impressive achievement. They have a really good chance to knock off a #2 seed.
Per Realgm, the Knocks are one of four teams that regularly blood test their players.
@47
Pop is amazing.
I think the strategy is pretty clear.
You can score efficiently with great players that do great things or you can score efficiently with good players that get more great shots (hopefully you have both).
To get great shots you have to find selfless players that are willing passers, that move without the ball, that set good picks, that play within the system, and that make good pass and shot selection decisions etc… If put together a team with those qualities that buys in, you’ll get more high quality shots of the type your players prefer (including role players) than the average team.
This is kind of why I’ve been down on our player selection. We’ve been focusing our attention on shot creators. You need a few guys like that, but unless they are great players they won’t accomplish much. You need team oriented high basketball IQ ball movers and decision makers.
@49
+1
It is pretty amazing that the Spurs won a game in the playoffs with Demar Derozan, Lamarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay combining to go 18-45.
The man really is a genius.
