Not sure why some were offended when K Leonard’s playoff performance was questioned. Is he not the only first teamer who didn’t make the final 4? Non clipper division

Because his performance the rest of the season was superstar level (gd I hate that term, but he is NOT just a role player, whatever that means)

    Because dude’s 24 years old.

Because the Spurs are going through a TREMENDOUS overhaul if not now, then in a year, and it shows.

Because his teammates are not what they were in the 2000’s.

Because they lost to the Thunder that’s been beating the Warriors.

all true, but he did have 3 shitty games out of 6 in that particular series

He’s just not a leader and he’ll never succeed in the clutch

    Best to have Melo instead

Kawhi Leonard this year in the playoffs:

    WS/48 .277
    PER 26.0
    TS% .616
    USG% 25.8

    Not sure how he “failed”…

He doesn’t want it. I looked inside of his chest and saw that he doesn’t have the heart of a rough rider and wilts under pressure.

Jesus, I just almost inhaled my coffee Lavor. Rough rider gets me every damn time

Yea..Leonard didn’t “show up” like a “star” should..but I have nothing negative to say about him because I would LOVE to see him on the Knicks. Could you imagine a frontcourt of Lopez/KP/Leonard? Sheesh! Incredible defense!

There are still some times where Kawhi looks slightly out of his depth as a #1 option on offense, but I find it hard to criticize him for that given A. how amazing the rest of his game is, and B. the huge strides he has taken in just the last year or so on that front. I felt like in the playoffs we finally saw a few snags in the transition from the old Tony-Manu-Timmy based Spurs offense to the new Kawhi based one. The old guys can’t create their own stuff any more, and specifically Kawhi’s ability as a PnR ball-handler is still not all the way there. Watching that series and now this GS-OKC series it has been notable to me how Kanter just cannot stay on the floor against Golden State because they just abuse him in the PnR the second he’s out there. The Spurs were completely unable to do that in the last round (and consequently Kanter had a big impact) simply b/c they don’t really have anyone on their roster to run effective PnR with at this point.

Still we’re talking about whether a 24-year old who’s already the best defensive player in the league can become one of the absolute best offensive players in the league, or will plateau as just a really great offensive player. I’d classify that as nit-picking.

With Mike ‘Antoni coaching James Haren (no “d” in either guy), I expect to see a lot of 132-130 games. Take the “over” in every Houston game this season.

Exactly. Not sure why ppl are so up in arms. Its like the “Steph is injured” crowd. Kawhi is considered by many to be a top 3 player in the NBA. He didn’t play like it in that series. That’s all. No one says hes not great.

Honestly, those bad games by Kawhi look straight out of Carmelo’s average game log. Roughly equal on FGA and points.

That’s so lazy. Seriously. Because Kawhi had a few bad games there’s a need to bring up Melo. When was Melo first team all NBA or considered a top 3 player.

smh. I cant take this level of trolldom today.

Didn’t you start it all, upthread?

Not sure why some were offended when K Leonard’s playoff performance was questioned. Is he not the only first teamer who didn’t make the final 4? Non clipper division

This place sometimes, it’s like a Bizarroworld.

Didn’t you start it all, upthread?

    K.
You are right. Kawhi had a great series. Sorry guys.

That’s exactly what we’re saying. “Kawhi had a great series.” Uh huh. That’s it.

    no ,Jowels. You said
He played like Carmelo and that Jordan had bad games.

He did play like Carmelo because Carmelo often misses a lot of shots, which is why Kawhi “underperformed” in those three games.

Jordan was a great player, maybe the greatest, but he was human. He dominated the playoffs in each of their title runs (’93 was particularly good), yet he still had bad games. Because he’s a human.

Kawhi is pretty close to a basketball cyborg. He’s good at everything. Still, he will have bad games. Weirdly, his bad games are just “average” games, but in the playoffs, there’s a much slimmer margin of error, as the best players on each team (usually) have their minutes significantly increased and the end of the bench rarely sees the floor. Re: the margin of error, especially so when you’re playing Durant and Westbrook, who are on-fucking-fire right now.

Judging a player’s “greatness” by a sample that small is silly. Brandon Jennings once scored 55 points in a game. Mo Williams scored 52 (a year ago!). Corey Brewer scored 51. Terrence Ross, 51. Are they great players just because they came pretty close to Jordan’s career-high? Fuck nah. Look at the bigger picture.

Is he not the only first teamer who didn’t make the final 4? Non clipper division

I can’t even begin to make sense out of the argument being put forward here. Is it that Leonard doesn’t deserve to be on the all NBA first team because his team didn’t make the conference finals?

Nah it was actually a joke because I just saw the teams. Bad joke I guess. But gawd u guys are riding hard for Mr Leonard today! God bless him

Judging a player’s “greatness” by a sample that small is silly

    Who did that sir?

“Exactly. Not sure why ppl are so up in arms. Its like the “Steph is injured” crowd. Kawhi is considered by many to be a top 3 player in the NBA. He didn’t play like it in that series. That’s all. No one says hes not great.”

    Was it this?

What makes this conversation a special snowflake of ridiculousness is the fact that Kawhi already has an NBA Finals MVP Award under his belt.

What is the conversation JK47? I’m not even really sure. Please let me know. I’m being serious too.

    + 2 x DPOY
    + 1 x MVP runner-up

meh Carmelo coulda done that if he had better teammates

Funny thing about your statement is that he does have great teammates and a great coach that groomed him. But cool. I get it. Kawhi is the unassailable goat. All hail

let’s be real er, if Kawhi were a Knick you’d hold his pocket the way you do Carmelo’s

U sound crazy. I love Kawhi aas a player. You are the one who keeps bringing up Melo like a scorned lover.

If Houston lands Hassan Whiteside, he and Harden could be really scary under D’Antoni. Especially if they sign one of D-Mo or Terrence Jones to an extension. I think they’re not going to pursue Whiteside because Capella is great already, but a Harden/Whiteside P&R would be crazy with Beverley, Ariza, and D-Mo/Terrence Jones on the perimeter.

In actually important news (or lack of news)- hornacek still isn’t official. Although i see from his brother’s Twitter account that Jeff is in vacation so maybe that’s why nothing.

Phil is obviously still in deep media silence mode. Wonder if it’s because feels the media kept him from hiring Rambis.

There’s no doubt in my mind that Hornacek is going to be our coach. The coaching market has moved on without him as SAC, Houston, Memphis (made an offer to Tizdale), Indiana, Orlando, Brooklyn, and Washington have all filled their head coaching vacancies. Who is left to steal Hornacek from us?

Forget Leonard tell me how the knicks can put a pkg together to get Nerlens Noel

If the raptors manage to win this game the NBA needs to change that flagrant call on Biyombo by noon tomorrow

Call me crazy, but I’m much more interested in the 20 year old who put up a .535 TS% on a decent usage when everyone else on his team was a nonthreat to beat you. I loved Okafor coming out as a PF because his rebounding isn’t good for the center spot. In his prime that is going to be a .600 TS% guy.

I think Hernangomez will be better than both guys at the end of it. And he’s KPs wonder pal so we shouldn’t break that up

Whiteside is not an MDA type big. He’s great at PNR, but he gets up and down pretty slow. MDA wants to push the pace a lot more.

The guy I could see them going after is Biyombo and they need to upgrade at the 4.

Terrence Jones projects to be a great MDA 4 I think. A starting front court between Jones and Capella could be really great. What they need is an upgrade at the 3 because Ariza is officially old and declining. They should go after Bazemore to play in that system.

Shout out to JR and company for making it back to the finals. Tighten up those saddles boys, the riding about to get rough

The Beal extension is something we all saw coming. I’d enjoy seeing Melo on that team. Wall and Beal at the guard spots, Melo and Porter would play both forward spots with Gortat in the middle. They’d struggle to win 45, but I’d still appreciate that team.

It’s definitely weird that he hasn’t been hired yet, but I don’t think it really means anything. The Knicks are just weird.
