I was away with my wife for our anniversary and I figured I’d still post a game thread, but I thought they were in Sacramento because they were playing Minnesota tonight, but no, yesterday they come home from a West Coast trip and then tonight they’re back on a West Coast trip? What the heck?

DSJ and Mitch do fun stuff all the time. That’s really all we should care about for the rest of this season so can we see them together more, please?
If Mitch Rob ever gets hurt, I may not watch another game this season. As it is, I barely pay attention when he’s not playing
MitchRob is so supreme. He really has no business being this good and productive.
MitchRob now has at least two blocks in 15 straight games. The only other rookies in NBA history to swat at least two shots in 15+ consecutive contests are Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O’Neal, Manute Bol, Alonzo Mourning, and David Robinson.
I wouldn’t be too upset with Culver because there’s at least a chance he can be a really good player. I just think the jump shot issue could cap his ceiling. Langford seems like Culver but a little worse at everything, so that would be tough to swallow after being the worst team in the NBA.
I think if either was in the 2018 draft they wouldn’t get considered until the top 7, both Bridges, and SGA were off the board.

DSJ’s defense has been pretty fucking bad.
I’m late on this but I don’t think this is a good comparison at all. When Schroeder was 21, his 2PT% was .449 and he shot 54% from 0-3 feet. DSJ is at .483 and .588 respectively. That alone gives him a higher ceiling than Schroeder–it’s his most important foundational skill that the rest of his development will rely on. He is legitimately a consistent jump shot away from being average-to-above-average, and some fine tuning in other areas could get him above that.
He’s definitely got a long way to go, and as for his salary of course I don’t support paying him (or anyone else, for that matter) more than he’s worth unless we’re keeping a contender together. I’m happy to give him a shot as long as he’s 1) on his rookie deal and 2) clearly the best point guard on our roster though.
Mudiay has turned it over at least 3 times since he’s checked in.
If Trier ever figures out how not to be a bad defender he’s got a legit future as a starting NBA guard.
Knox is THE tank god.

Our guards are playing some sloppy ass basketball. DSJ and Mudiay have combined for 10 turnovers at 5 apiece.

a jumpshot is nice… but its one of those things thats a nice to have as a young player.. i think most ppl can realize that by now with deaaron fox…
culvers good… his jumpshot is def not broken and he has a really good off the dribble/pull up game… hes better than otto porter was… better than either bridges… better than jonathan isaac and probably a hair behind jayson tatum….
that makes him about josh jackson level… and yea that doesnt sound all that exciting now… but youd have been ecstatic with a top 5 pick and having a chance to draft him before the 2017 draft… and culvers roughly about that level without as much fanfare… thats a pretty damn good prospect in any draft….
langford is plain and simple one of the best sg prospects in over a decade… seriously look up all the sgs in draft the last 10 years… its not a crazy statement… hes got a lot of ability.. and i wouldnt mind it at all that we drafted him….

I’m ok with Langford or Culver in a bubble, but they don’t seem worth this season we’re currently going through. If we end up with one of those guys, it might be necessary to tank again til we get it right.

Can you help me understand what you mean by this? I know raw BPM isn’t a very good way to evaluate NCAA prospects, but in the BPM era 94 freshman guards (MP ? 500) have had a superior BPM. He doesn’t seem to standout in any more specific category (e.g. 2PT%, PPG, etc.), either.
I’m asking genuinely because I think you know way more about evaluating prospects than me 🙂
Damn if the Suns get Zion, that would be a dangerous team all of a sudden.
I think Morant would fit the Suns really, really well. He’s a very good passer and they desperately need that. Of course Zion would be the first choice, but the Suns are one of the better possible fits for Morant for sure.
bpm is bad just like a lot of advanced metrics to evaluate college prospects… it might tell you who’s good right now… but it will not tell you who will be good later.. 3p% and ts% is a big part of what makes a valuable player in the nba but you absolutely don’t want your prospects to be hanging out in 3p land… (e.g, cam reddish… lonzo ball)….
because if you’re a dominant player you take and make the shots you want… and not what the defense wants… and that means you’re getting to the paint frequently and converting…. and dominant players don’t just do that… they also make an impact on the defensive end also…. they pass the ball… i mean the way lebron.. harden.. giannis… curry.. davis. durant.. the reason they are such great players is because they impact the game in multiple ways…. and they’ve been doing it for a long time… they didn’t just show up at a 3on3 and figured it out afterwards…. they’ve been doing it in hs and college and doing it against older comp…
and so that brings us to langford… the reason why bpm probably doesn’t like him is that he’s 70% at the line and a third of his shots come from 3p land and he doesn’t make any of them…. but what makes him a great prospect is that he has a pretty wide skillset…. scores well in 2p territory.. with good volume… grabs boards with ok def stats… and passes the ball well… that’s pretty much the basis for a strong nba player…. and the parts where you need to focus on….
and also 3p shooting in college… you generally have a sample of about 100 shots… and we all know (or should).. how 3p shooting is pretty volatile in even bigger samples… so poor 3p shooting isn’t really indicative of being a poor shooter… and a good 3p shooter wouldn’t automatically be a good 3p shooter in the pro’s….

Yeah, Dallas is really going for their pick this year, it’s gonna be a bit scary for us. The last pick they owe the Knicks is still an asset, but as soon as they delay Atlanta’s pick one more year, it starts dropping in value right away.
I was shocked that they didn’t seem to really start tanking right away when it seemed like it made so much sense for them to do so.

I love Dallas from here. They are 2/3rds the way to building their young star core and should have a shot in the draft and free agency to get the 3rd piece this off season. With a little luck they can go into next year with their core set. Then they can start filling out role players and bench. By the time the young guys are getting ready to make serious noise Lee will be long gone and Hardaway will be coming off.
I’ve been saying this.
I watched some Dallas basketball both this year and last year. He has the tools to be a good defender and will occasionally make an eye catching play, but if you watch him day in and day out you’ll see a lot of lapses where he’s totally lost or doesn’t make an effort. When you combine that with the inefficient scoring and TO lapses you can easily start thinking you are getting one of those talented low basketball IQ LOSING players that some of the poorly managed teams keep falling for (like the Knicks).
Before the KP deal, Dallas was trying to move him for a 1st rounder, but there were no takers. Now you can see why. He’s bad on both sides despite the occasional eye catching play. It’s not totally hopeless when you have talent like that, but I doubt Cuban is losing any sleep.
As far as I’m concerned, if we are trying to build a team with a scoring PG that runs the whole show, we most likely still don’t have our PG of the future.
You need 3 stars. You can get them via draft, trade, free agency or a combunation of the above. As long as we are this incompetently managed and have zero at this stage (or 1 if we remain optimistic on Robinson and say he’s the 3rd option), we’ll probably hang around the dungeon for awhile unless someone really good is crazy enough to sign with us this year despite being historically bad.
The Warriors may just be saving themselves for the playoffs when they will flip the switch and play MUCH tougher defense. However, I think a reasonable case can be made that Drayomd is starting to slip a little and the bench is a bit older and not as deep.
More controversial is my view that Durant is starting to slip. When you are the greatest scorer ever, you can slip a bit and still be so great no one will notice. but IMO the slip has started and I’m not so sure how enthusiastic I am about signing a guy at the exact point he’s beginning to slip…even if he is an all time great.

Like I said another day, Durant’s numbers remain pretty much equal to his best seasons, the outlier is that he’s hitting less 3s, only 36%. His 2p% is still great and he’s getting to the line 7 times per game, and his rebound and assist numbers are all in line with his career averages.
Now, if the lower 3pt percentage is an outlier or an indication of decline, obviously I don’t know. His last season was also not as incredible as his usual self, so there is likely some decline involved, but if I had to guess, I wouldn’t say it’s a clear thing yet.
The Warriors will turn up the intensity in the playoffs, I’m pretty sure of it, they’re not as deep as usual but still deep enough to win it all. If they end up re-signing Klay and eventually Draymond to huge contracts and Durant leaves, they’re probably gone as contenders next season unless they pull some trick out of nowhere. Even Curry is having a mundane season for his standards, all his numbers are down compared to his usual self.
After all of these losing seasons, if you can sign Durant for just money, you have to. If his decline years are like Kevin Garnett’s, where he didn’t put up the numbers but still had an all-time great basketball skillset and IQ out there, you live with it.
DSJ is just not my kind of player. The way that he struts his way into one dumb ply after another, the horrible FT shooting form…very worrisome. Maybe he grows up this summer but I’d be okay with including him in a trade for a better player.
