2022-23 Game Thread: Knicks vs. Celtics – Six the Musical?

The Knicks go for their second six game winning streak of the season as they host the Boston Celtics tonight, with a chance to also take over sole possession of the #5 seed in the Eastern Conference!

Come on, Knicks, be like Angela Bassett and do the thing!

Let’s go, Knicks!

Jaylen Brown missing the game for personal reasons…

(translation: he wants no part of these Knicks!)

My friend and I went to the last Boston game at MSG and watched Doogie Hauser go 5-8 from three point range as they completely torched us in the 2nd half

Please don’t let that happen again Knicks!

I don’t think I’m going to make it through this one without some alcohol. To the cabinet I go.

“We have Bad Barrett so far today…”

Correction: We have typical Barrett so far today.

Is RJ in the top 300 NBA players?

The fact that i’m not even sure before doing an analysis is frightening.

“Better grab the mezcal….strat”

I may have to do some kind of alcohol drip directly into my bloodstream.

Great pass by Barrett. Not. (as in no pass at all)

I’m deep into my martini(s) already.

Mitch looks lighter on his feet tonight than he has in awhile. He has some extra spring.

Am I the only one struggling with Blake Griffin’s black dress socks?

I think we may have missed Mitch a little. lol

I was just saying he looks really good physically and now he’s doing it all on both sides.

Our DRTG is back up to 14th after 2 games with Mitch (the ATL game before the break may have had something to do with it too)

I don’t think a replacement big is 80% of Mitch

In other news, that IQ basket under the hoop may have been the best in bounds play the Knicks have run all year

In my mind, Randle cooks Grant Williams all the time. I will not be looking up the numbers on that one.

He does

One of my very favorite parts of this winning streak and general good play is that Clyde is totally energized and happy. Fills my heart.

Good start. I don’t think the Celtics are going to play as bad the rest of the game though.

RJ is unwatchable. Every minute he’s on the court is emotionally draining and painful for me. WTF Thibs? At some point you have to deal with reality and bench him.

This is beyond ridiculous. RJ is not a rotation player on a good team. For God’s sake forget the draft position, forget the contract, and get him off the court. This game would practically be over already if we had a real starting SF.

Re Obi detractors. there’s been two solid plays where Toppin has been slicing to the basket. One a basket, one a foul for two shots.

He’s not that good but just keeps forcing it and occasionally something decent happens.

This game would be long over without RJ.

10 points on 14 shots and a FT, 5 TOs, and a minus 6. Only minus on the team.

Wow, really glad the server was down (if that was the problem) as I had a lot to say these last few minutes… little of it pleasant…

Waiting on the Brunson/Smart foul call…

Not sure which way they’ll go on this, Clyde is right about the kick but Smart definitely fouled him before.

Great Obi minutes.

iHart didn’t help us tonight…

He’s been so well recently he’s owed a few duds.

I am definitely glad Leon Rose didn’t think he could get 80% of Mitch on the cheap

With how they were playing without Mitch, adding Mitch to the squad really ups their level to a crazy high point.

Another stellar shot off the timeout.

That’s what really shocks me about Muzzalla. He’s so good with ATO plays…and yet doesn’t call timeouts. It’s so weird.

“What a dumb play by Tatum. You gotta know the circumstance, dude.”

He pulled a Randle.

Boston has missed their share of open 3pters but for the most part Knicks have played excellent defense tonight.

Yeah, this is a much better win than their OT win against Boston. This is probably their best win of the season. And to have that happen at home is especially great.

mitch is gonna start getting hacked down the stretch. his fts look a bit worse every game.

These fans think Thibs is gonna do a victory cigar when it’s still mathematically possible to lose?

How did any team lose with MVP candidate Josh Hart on its roster

This team is firing on all cylinders on both sides now EXCEPT RJ. Replace RJ with a plus two way player and no team in the NBA wants any part of us. Even Thibs is peaking at the same time as some of the players. He’s doing a better job with the lineups and minutes…..except RJ.

Max Josh Hart, waive RJ Barrett is my totally logical and not incensed reaction to this game.

But seriously, I don’t care how we beat the Celtics, it’s still the best feeling in basketball for me. Fuck the Celtics.

We never win this game without Quickley, what a stretch he’s been having,

Z-Man, I know the Orlando Magic of all teams is 3-1 against the Celtics this season, they’ve beaten them 3 times straight this season.

The site going down let me keep my doomer when the Celtics start making 3s comments to myself

This would have been a 250 comment thread without the site burping. 😂

Oh my! Haha. Love this so much.

And to which god must we pray so that IQ plays like this for the rest of his life? Guy has really stepped it up.

only one player on box score with a minus on the old +/-
no surprises there

My personal problem with RJ is that so many of his mistakes are just mental ones. He shouldn’t be thinking like a rookie still in the back half of Season 4.

+1

What I love best about Clyde is that he is an old man who actually knows how the game has changed and has adjusted some of his beliefs accordingly. It’s rare to see, and should be celebrated when it happens. That he was a superstar player who has been able to make that adjustment as an old man broadcaster is even more amazing.

Clyde also still has a remarkable eye. He saw that Brunson kick before anyone else. The man is just an absolute gem. Legitimately don’t know if I would’ve held on this long as a fan with a replacement level announcer.

Geo, get ur freak on!

I’m very proud of you for making the wrong decision the right one.

“My personal problem with RJ is that so many of his mistakes are just mental ones. He shouldn’t be thinking like a rookie still in the back half of Season 4.”

It’s his focus on scoring. He’s tries to do too much regardless of whether he has a good or bad matchup. That often puts him in bad spots where it’s easier to turn the ball over or take a terrible shot. I used to forgive it when we had no PG and not enough scoring, but there are no excuses now. He’s barely a rotation player at this point and certainly should not be starting or taking nearly as many shots as he typically does. The problem is he’s not really an obvious plus at anything. So I can’t even figure out a plus role for him anywhere in any of the lineups.

I can’t express what a joy it is to know that my kids love Clyde nearly* as much as me (*they don’t know him as the actual “Clyde” he was on the championship teams but that love can’t be taught, could only be experienced!)

Mike and Clyde’s chemistry is also just so natural that everything just flows so smoothly. During the whole sequence of the foul and the review of the call they were disagreeing, Mike pointed out Smart fouled before and Clyde focused on the kick, but they both do it in such a respectful and knowledgeable way that it just kept flowing. The GOAT pairing and its not even close.

For many years Breen and Clyde were the only good things about the Knicks. Very happy for both of them they finally have a team to get excited about. You can hear when Breen says “New York lives this team” there is still a little bit of himself in that.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have had personal interactions with both Breen and Clyde, and I have to say that they are every bit as genuinely nice as they appear.

Yeah, a non-contact foot injury is very much no bueno. Luckily for the Lakers, they really reloaded the shit out of that club, and they look like they might honestly be able to weather the storm pretty well and at least get into the play-in game even without Lebron. They literally added D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley for a single lightly protected first! But their only chance of actually making noise in the playoffs is if Lebron plays, so we’ll see how quickly he can actually return.

Tonight, Clyde was knocking the Celtics for not going for a three on a fast break down 12 with 6 minutes to go. Can you even imagine Clyde thinking that way 20 years ago?
